I want a custom ROM. To be specific to me. I'm willing to put in the leg work but I need help learning to write scripts and whatnot.

That's a hefty request. What are you looking for exactly?
Appreciate my help? Thank me
Well nevermind I think I found something close enough to what I was looking for with EVO zone ROM. I really don't like rosie but as it stands it seems as if there is nothing we can do about it yet. I have had many of android phones and this is by far my favorite one it just seems like rosie needs so much from this phone and its holding it back.

The phone runs fine with Sense. I'm assuming this is just a preferential thing?
Appreciate my help? Thank me
Maybe it just that I'm curious about to much stuff and don't fully understand.

im not tryin to be rude even tho is going to come off like that. just google it...the answer will come in less then a sec or ask on a help sticky. dont make a new thread because you might be feeling lazy. good luck with your new hobby
Easiest way to look at them. The Kernel is the brain, it is the control point. Everything goes through it.
ROM is more of what you see, the programs and such.
While it is much more indepth that's the basics of it. Just remember to never use either that is not built for your phone.

This doesn't belong in the development section, or any. A Google search would yield results. And if you don't know the difference, you shouldn't even consider rooting.

^ I was thinking the same thing. Hence the reason I posted the question.
Goggle doesn't always explain things as well as someone with hands on experience.

Thanks for your time.
Your explanation helps. I have messed with linux kernels on my computer before, but I wanted to make sure about this because its my phone and not a spare pc during around. Lol

Well...
You have to admit, at least the subject is dead on.
Symptom of a larger issue, I believe...
We need to separate things a bit better. All the support for the ROMS going on in here seems to be confusing people?
Dev forum, release forum, support forum, perhaps? XDA is becoming a huge mess which explains the recent off-shoots.
Sorry had remove
no offense but need to do better in the information department in the OP..
what is it that you are telling ppl to check out?
Something that im sure no one has on the my touch 4g.. but about 95 percent of the people want.. I cannot confirm or deny anything else..
as posting this can get me in trouble..
But it is well worth the look, and you can thank me later..
ps if you are on a pc and roll your mouse over it.. you can read what it is..
*been informed of the covert operation

definitely good intentions, so thank you on that part..but yeah, someone coming across this thing for the first time won't be very convinced..it's cool if you have your reasons, i'm sure many will find it useful..
I was asked not to make this public, I agreed.. but i figured the community could benefit from it.. as I know many are wanting a version that works..I just dont want any flack from them..
so i tried to put it out there quietly.. so it was not searchable.. and pointed the finger to me..
that is why I had to do the 007 post as some people with large font put it..
Understood. Thanks

Hey guys. So I'm working on my home screens and such and I just wanted to know if you guys could help me out by posting a bunch of stuff to get my beloved vibrant to look like its running gingerbread. And I know atleast one person will say to just flash a gingerclone or such but I'm not feelin it. So thanks in advance

wait are you on stock or what rom are you on?
There's probably mods for it, or someone can make them for you.
I'm actually on stock
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Umm....Do you think maybe DarkGinger, Slightly Better Gingerbread, or one of the 100 other Gingerbread themes/roms might be of some help to you?
Told you there'd be one but no thank you

Here's a new one for you, SEARCH, there are plenty of different mods, icons and so forth on this site. Do it your self, quit asking for hand outs of things that are all over the place.

OF COURSE "there'd be one" People have spent countless hour to provide the community with exactly what you're asking for, but you're too lazy/ignorant to figure that out. Sorry if you're "not feeling it." Build something yourself.
What does this dude even want?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm that somebody that tells you to just root, get nero or gingerclone, rock microbes lwp and viola. If your not feelin it then put the work in for ur beloved vibrant. Root isn't hard and its easy to undo later if need be. Who's gonna look that closely anyway, and why does it matter. Theres a guy that I work with that has the nexus s and doesn't even try to flex on me. My Vibrant w/ nero is effin beast. Are you one of those guys that walks up and says "hey, look at my phone". Don't be a poser, come correct or not at all. And another thing, if you want answers be specific about what you need help with, not just, I want it to look like... I'm not trying to bust ur balls, just sayin.

I have no experience, but i'd like to learn how to make my own custom rom.
Does anyone know what i'd need for a Thunderbolt GB rom?
I've looked into it and read about Kitchens and how you need them, but don't fully understand.
I'd like to know if the community could help me out here.
I could google it and I have, but I don't get any results that are specifically for the Thunderbolt.
Please go easy on me. :/
I can't answer your question so I apologize for taking a spot in your thread but I don't see any reason people would be rude/harsh towards you especially considering you posted in the proper section! Good luck and hope to see a ROM from you someday!

the phone model does not matter really and you wont find anything specific for the thunderbolt.
Install Linux right off the bat... Dealing with Windows and using environments are a PIA.
Download apktool, kitchen, gimp, and your base ROM whether it be the GB leak or MR2. Read up on how the system works, various editing techniques, and suck up all the info possible. It really is a learning process, not really something someone can tell you how to do.
That's what I did/do to learn.

You do realize too that some people, no matter how hard they may try, are just not cut out to this type of stuff?
I'm not saying you can't do this, but just be aware that the end result may not be what you want it to be.
Thank you Theory and Yareally! I'm good at researching, looking into things and learning
I just needed to know what exactly I needed to look up.

Ya, I remember back in my days in school when these people were in computer classes with me saying how cool it was to learn to program.
Half of them, while very bright, lacked a certain "ability" to grasp programming, shall we say.
Hello, I understand that many of the ROMs are having issues with the music playback. I know the fix is just changing 2 lines in the build prop.. My question is, if that's the fix then why do the devs not make the fix before they release their builds? Seems like it would make life a little easier for all involved?

Is it that hard to change two words? Besides you can just save a file and make it permanent.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Thank you Zach that is exactly what I'm saying! Is it really that hard for Devs to make this change knowing that if they do not then everyone that uses their product will have to? I just do not see the sense in not changing it prerelease as I have seen tons of users commenting on here complaining about the music issue only to be directed to the fix. Why does there need to be a fix?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I meant on your end. Just change it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
brah its two little lines takes all of thirty seconds to do not that big of a deal, maybe they don't do it because there to busy making you a free rom. I get what your saying though, but I think we as users shouldn't have to be spoon fed everything. If a dev fixes it for us in his rom great if not no biggie I'll do it myself. Don't forget they really don't get paid for doing this for us.
Thread closed, but the post immediately before this one is well stated.

Appreciate what work is getting done and please do not be so self-righteous when wanting something.
Or, do it yourself.
