I have been messing around with my eris for a good while now and i would like to give a mad shout out to the devs who keep this phone rockin with the best roms and fixes. I have seen a large amount of drama on the forums and it saddens me but i hope it dose not detur the devs from producing the best roms for this tiny monster.
I started with learning how to root my phone from the many guides on the development forum then i learned how to install new roms and change many things such as boot screens from them. Im now learning how to add and remove things from roms and even more im planning on the near future to start contributing my own add ins to make this community rock. I just want all the devs out there to know you are appreciated and all the drama around if some one took this or that shouldn't take away from the fact that there works are masterpieces on a budget phone that wasnt all that great stock. Please keep it up and i want you all to support them with what ever you can casue this stuff is hard as nuts!!!!
DONT LET THE ERIS DIE
Agreed! But I think the drama is inescapable. A lot of the people who come on here are super pissed because they can't root their phones (like me), while others are as happy as can be (like you). In my case, it was Verizon's choice to disable the previous hack, but in the leakers' case, who knows. All of those leaked roms came with a warning I'm sure, so it is the end user who made the decision. The developers can not be blamed for trying their hardest.
Me? I will be patiently waiting for a solution. If someone sets up a bounty to root these phones with HBOOT 1.49 S-On I will gladly donate. After all, I got the phone for free. But if it doesn't happen within 27ish days I might be returning the phone for something I know I can root (yes, it is that hard to live without it).
Same. Im thankful that devs use their spare time to make other peoples phones better, and for free at that. Yes the drama is always going to be there. Some people just have no respect and think they have a right to complain when things dont go as quickly as they think they should.
Besides, you'll find that as more and more newer android based phones come out, the devs will be moving away from the outdated Eris, so we should really appreciated the ones that continue to work on it. I have little to no knowledge about programming these phone, so I always wait patiently for these things to happen. Thank you all devs for helping us out.

I'd go out on a limb and say that they make my life more complicated. So many choices of new roms and patches and speed fixes, oh my! I keep messing with my phone and every time I get close to customizing it how I want, I see a new shiny toy I want to play with and have to start all over. lol
But really, thanks to everyone that spends their time enriching our phones.
Now that HTC made their announcement a couple of weeks ago, we have an actual ETA on the unlocked bootloader. That said, as we all know, it'll be a month or two before this goes into effect. I know that many people (myself included) jumped to the EVO 3D because of the spectacular dev support that the 4G received, hoping that the 3D would get similar support on even better hardware. I think there were many people disappointed in HTC regarding the bootloader and how long it took them to unlock it (and awesomely impressed with dev temp-root workarounds!), and I certainly wouldn't blame developers for jumping ship to another device due to impatience with HTC. Of course, if devs go, there will the people follow.
My question to the devs is that now that we're reaching the deadline of the 30 day exchange policy and with rumors of the Galaxy 2 II on the horizon, are you going to be sticking with the EVO3D or returning it to develop for another phone?
I ask not to call anyone out, but out of sheer curiosity and self-interest. As awesome as this phone is, I want to go with the phone that is going to get the most development, and I know I'm not alone in that regard.
Thanks for your time!
Personally I don't care. But you're going get flamed by some "Obese and Ugly" Super Nerd that has some kind of Napolean Complex and feels the need to tell you that this post is in the wrong section. He thinks he's doing XDA and the "interwebz" a service and also speculates daily that he's important on some grand level.
All that aside. Development for the EVO 3D is ****. It's over. Thanks to Stericson.
I've jumped ship. I'll never purchase another HTC phone, they can shove them up their ass, lock their bootloaders and masterbate on the code as it prints out from their ****** iMac and MacBook Pro's.
..sigh.

Really guys, is too soon to jump out the ship, we gotta be patience, I believe on the EVO3D dev team!

I don't think any devs have jumped ship, theirs just no reason to develop anything right now. The only thing we have right now is temp root and that has been developed into something far beyond what it started off as.And not to forget the all the skins, unrooted rosie mods, overclocking and everyone behind the scenes working on trying to crack the bootloader with the little there is to work with. For now the 3D is a great example of the saying- when life throws you lemons... And when one of the outstanding Devs here squeezes the juice out of the locked bootloader we will have us one fine lemonade stand.

I wouldn't at all (even though we really aren't have a "Dev" discussion right now), I hardly see how anyone can say "HE" killed dev for our device. I don't think the dev is dead at all, hell, he tried to keep all the BS and stupid questions out of the Dev section. I personally think that the fact there has been a min post count rule implemented across the dev forums speaks volumes to and shows that people do need to read and respect the a) section and b) OP when posting in a thread, well.... lets say posting HTC rants in a thread dedicated to our temp root solution.
"He" may have been a bit slow to reopen the thread (in our section) that he was basically forced to police because of morons that can't read or comprehend just what a dev thread is for, but that hardly constitutes making the "Dev being dead, over and out". Said morons and illiterates actually drove the dev's to IRC, away from the public forum where they started and hoped to collect ideas and garner more support from the masses on the development work.
I would like to hear a dev say "he" killed their work on this device... sounds like crazy talk to me from some impatient users.
I won't be jumping ship (speaking as veteran flash addict and avid Dev supporter), we'll have our perm root one way or another. I am just surprised to see people acting so butt hurt over what is going on, a month out of the gate.
Now that, is some sad shhhht to sigh about...
Oh, and... IBTL
I hope allot of the 4g devs do make a appearance, I personally think most of them are the best there is. I believe we picked up a bunch of hero guys too, there's a whole lot of exceptional talent in that group too. I think once we get full root, theres going to be some real awesume stuff pop up overnight in this forum,
I do have to say the ones that are here now are going a great job and putting out a lot of badass stuff considering all most of them have to work with is teamwin's temp root.

So many devs have been working really hard on unlocking and rooting this device. On the near horizon there will be so many awesome mods and roms and mods our heads will spin. It's been around 30 days since the device was released and there are ton's of people on board. Once the bootloader is open the floodgates will too. Just sit tight and wait. Good things to come.
You guys have to realize also there is a BIG difference between devs and chefs

I think that's pretty much where I'm at, just sitting tight. I found myself in the unfortunate spot of getting a 3D with a touchscreen issue, and I'm between doing a 30 day return or exchange. I think more than likely I'll end up keeping it (the thing is a beast), and it's good to know that there's other people sticking around
I think we should all jump ship and give up, after all that's why we're here, at xda developers. Also, this piece of junk unmatched phone had been out for a crazy long 37 days, what with no root... WTF. And that damn mod... Keeping morons with big mouths out of dev threads, what a douche, we should just let everyone say and do what they want in here. That way we could read more. I hope a mod closes this thread and bans the OP for a month, for fun (because this awesome development is... A question). Member since 08 ... Get some email addresses or follow them on Twitter, or pm them, or find them in webchat, that's how you talk to a dev.

Good point. I did generalize by saying "devs" but I definitely meant both. ROMs are one of the best reasons to root. Looking forward to getting some CM, kushdeck, and MIUI on this bad boy, not to mention the host of awesome Sense developers like Myn, Virus, and Ava. From most responses, it seems like we don't have too much to worry about. As far as CM and MIUI are concerned, if demand is high enough, there'll either be an official release or at the very least a port, since they're community projects.
I'm new here to XDA, in fact I'm new to the cell phone/smart phone arena in general. I just got my first cell phone (not company owned/paid for) about a month and a half ago. But, being the tech nerd I am when it comes to maximizing performance and customization with computer hardware, it transferred over to my cell phone and wanting to maximize it for everything I could possibly imagine it doing.
But to cut to the chase, I recently signed up with Sprint and originally bought an Evo 4G, but luckily the Evo 3D was released within a week of me signing up so I took advantage of the return policy and got that.
The point of this thread is I want to say thank you. The reason being is because for the first month and a half I've owned the Evo 3D, while I was happy with it's base performance, but I felt with the hardware under the hood could do more. When unrevoked and alpharev released their revolutionary s-off tool I was excited, but at the same time timid. I thought about all the worst case scenarios I seem to have the unfortunate luck of falling upon and stopped myself from rooting my phone just based on that fear alone. But after seeing a few youtube videos, and a plethora of guides including step by step instructions provided by you guys on how to root my phone, and the benefits I took that leap of faith.
In other words, or as most forum junkies would call it tl;dr -- I would like to thank XDA and the people who post on these forums, as well as provide quality ROM's, Mod's, and Kernels for helping me get over my fear of rooting, because now the Evo 3D I originally bought is now rooted and doing more. Hell, even after rooting my phone I decided to buy the XDA app off of the android market to contribute in what way I can, and once I get a credit card I'm going to contribute to JoelZ9614's getting an Evo 3D fund.
Again thank you.

Welcome to xda. The devs around here are amazing, and we are indeed lucky to have.such a.plethora of devs for our device.

Gonna have to agree with the OP! :]
I remember I was new to android and the OG evo was my into to it and xda. I was overwhelmed with new stuff to learn..what is a PRL, MSL, throttling and so on....I just kept on reading the posts and using google for research on new terminology. I had to to stop being so darn confused. The 3vo( any haters for that term...tough...I will call it what I want..I own the damn thing... ) is one heck of a phone and I see the progression on the roms coming at a incredible rate. Only this place can we have what we have. I do agree with you.
I am new here as well but i have been on other Android forums for a while ow. I find the information is greater here and keeps me on the XDA developers pages longer. I have this on my phone as well and wanna thank u guys and gals for ur work.
I have been around since the beginning of android. I Had a G1, then a Nexus One, to a MT4G, and now a Rezound. I rooted every one (minus the rezound obviously) and frequented the forums, learning and discussing the Mod'ing of these devices. As these past years have gone by, I have grown more and more concerned with the direction the community has taken.
Now there has always been at least some drama within the community, but as Android has grown in popularity, and more users seek info in the forums, the drama has ramped up exponentially it seems.
I remember when it was more about info than ego...
My request: Can we please get back to what its really about? Mod'ing, Flashing, and fun. Lets leave our egos at the door, they only do more harm than good. A sense of community and mutual respect is what we should strive for.
No personal insults/attacks be respectful even in disagreements
Don't steal code... give credit where due
Don't be a troll
Don't flame someone just for ignorance (if they seem to be habitual in forum misuse tell a mod so they can investigate and they can handle it appropriately)
Expect nothing, make no demands, ask politely... this goes for all sides
Remember this is a hobby and just for fun for most of us. Replace the fun with drama and what is the point.
I am sure there are other things I could list, but that will do for now.
Edit: resurrected from the dead...
Just so you guys know... Nobody is owed anything. No Dev owes you ROMs, root, or anything else. Vice versa, no user owes a Dev anything for their work. (paid market apps excluded) The rooting community is a hobby based entity. We work on respect and a mutual love of the platform. Donations are voluntary but a good idea. (It makes Devs feel appreciated)
Another thing... Drama... It kills the community. It runs off users and Devs alike. It creates a hostile environment that no one wants to deal with. When a device looses Devs it can be a death nail to the further development for that device.
When you think "just my one little question on ETAs won't be a big deal, I'll PM/IRC/tweet/IM the dev" you have to remember... about 100 other people are thinking the exact same thing. Its one thing to pop in the ROM's thread and if you don't see any activity for several days/a week, to post a quick question like "how is it going?", as dealing one one question and being able to answer publicly so others benefit too is not a big deal... Just don't get upset if the answer is a simple "we are still working on it" Often times there is a lot of effort put in but no real progress to report, no landmark goals yet made.
When you take the ETA/update questions into areas like IM that you start getting several people an hour pestering someone with the same question and it gets old...
^^^^^that's what it should about. But u got so many newbies here (and we all started somewhere of course) it seems as of the trolling and such come from New people not understanding the aspect of the site. But I k.ow I'm wasting my time typi.g his. Hope it happens.

When I first started coming here, it was all about the phones. Helpful people, friendly community, the works. After a while it just seemed to deteriorate. Every other thread was a flame war. It got to a point where i'd rather rack my brain or scour Google before I'd ask a question in here, because I knew some ego tripping person with no manners was gonna try to flame me for asking a simple question. A little respect/courtesy can go a long way, whether if ur helping someone or being helped.

I would like to see a rule enforced regarding swearing and overly aggressive, or hateful language.
I understand that phones can be frustrating, and so can users. But, if you can't post in a helpful and friendly way, you probably shouldn't post at all.
Temporary (and the threat of permanent) banning should be used to keep those in line who do not have the self control to handle posting in a respectful manner.
I wouldn't worry too much. With the Galaxy Nexus going on sale today, most of the babies crying that they can't unlock/root their Rezound are most likely in line right now to exchange their Rezound for the Galaxy Nexus. That should weed out many of those who do nothing but complain here in the Rezound threads.

Not trying to start anything or flame anyone, but isn't it the Mod's job to determine whether a thread is posted in the wrong area and move it accordingly? It just seems that if you come behind someone who took the time to start a thread and tell them that its in the wrong place, you come off like a smart Alec and thus animosity begins. Not saying that u are, just saying some ppl get off on that and only that. Once again, not trying to start anything, just my two pennies.

Yeah, I considered putting this in the over all general forum, but I am seeing so much craziness here in the Rezound forums that I thought it was needed here the most. I might throw it up in the Android general section if you guys think I should.
I love this phone, but I am getting impatient for root.
It is mostly the battery life issue. I hate extra batteries with a passion and hate needing to charge during the day as well. I am a light user, I just game a few minutes during breaks, send a few messages through the day and a few random things here and there. I really only have a smartphone for the convenience that it brings and the fact I like the Android OS and followed it since early 2007. With my MT4G even on a heavy use day (for me) I would have 40% left when I went to bed and charged, usually it was around 60%. With the larger screen and dual cores, I don't expect the same, but I know it will be better with cyanogenMOD on it. I can get through the day, but just barely, and that is on my lightest days.

True that....it's just a shame that a lot of people will miss out on AOKP for the Prime because of a disagreement between 2 people.
I liked to think of XDA as a one stop shop for all my modding and customization needs, as do others, but now we are missing a BIG chunk of development for the Prime.

It mainly just happens on XDA. Rootzwiki is a way better haven for Developers and much more drama free. It's where I hang out the most. Personally, I'm glad to see Jermaine on Rootzwiki. I was mainly only coming here for Motley and Jermaine. One less reason to come here now.

crap .. i hope he keeps developing for the prime ... best rom for the prime ..
we need more roms!
asus unlock this device else we are screwed! we need more devs
I dont think its right that one moderator should take whatever personally and have a person banned or encourage them to leave when the person serves US not the moderator.
This really sucks... I think that particular rom would have been a game changer.
This as others say happens to often, and it seems that the moderators let their personal feelings get in their way of their 'job'.
Well, this sucks ASS...
Sadly this is happening more and more often, and most of the AOKP devs from other devices have already left XDA some time ago, and post here at a bare minimum especially since overall the experience with the mods is better and generally speaking there are less inexperienced users over at rootz not to say there arent some but the general populace has more of an idea of what they are doing when you compare to xda.
Sad to see XDA drive another great dev away.
Thanks for headsup. I was just wondering what is going on with jermaine151's threads. I found him on rootzwiki.
that other site is cool but prime section is really a ghost town over there. In their developement AOKP is literally the only rom there i saw. well add in the cornerstone version also. it is sad a disagreement lead to all of this. i hope he comes back as he will have more people to test out and view his roms over here.
at least he didn't stop the developement though. its just moved to a new place. I think ego's and pride got in the way and lead to the clash of the titans. I still plan on trying out this rom once i finally unlock. it was the most feature packed one i saw and really was on the rise. I'd say just let it blow over for a while for both parties to cool off and hopefully they work things out. Both are great developers. Prime needs all the developers it can get. Choice is always good so the more roms, the better.
not related to that situation, but people just need to chill out and be more thankful/grateful to developers, themers , and people trying to help others in general. i remember seeing our main themer almost quitting due to some members nagging and ungratefulness. I've seen some people in new EOS nightly rom act snobbish and expect stuff when they want. People have to remember all these developers and themers or whoever spends their free time over here. they don't really get paid for doing what they do and making roms and such for us users to use. Nothing is owed to us by them. They make this roms and such out of hobby interests and passion for doing what they do. So the end user should always be more encouraging to these type of people. Instead of making demands or complaining about their work. I could see why some would want to leave here because alot of members either act snobbish, or act like developement is owed to them, or just plain ungrateful.

Personally, I see rootzwiki gaining more and more credibility and popularity as time goes on. Look at the GNex forum in particular. Huge. As has been mentioned, overall, Rootz attracts the way more experienced and tech savvy end user. There's virtually none of the community drama found here at XDA. Its simply not tolerated and more importantly not expected which is why more and more of the Android community of developers and end users go there.
I bet with AOKP for the Prime at Rootzwiki now, we'll begin to see development explode. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see other developers transition there as well as new developers.
