[Q] TMOUS Wifi-Calling for 3G HTC Flyer - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

First, I will like to appreciate the Work of Unrevoked and AlphaRev (@Revolutionary.io) they made this possible by providing the S=OFF
Also the I will like appreciate the zhangqip for providing the GFAN HTC FLyer image that is already Rooted with Phone Support.
Lastly, I appreciate the work of eugene373 for providing the extra rooting script.
Requirements
1. HTC Flyer 3G/WIFI
2. S=OFF. For more Information click here.
3. GFAN HTC Flyer ROM. Can be found here.
4. T-Mobile USA SIM. duh....
5. Android Commander or Droid Explorer. Whichever one you can use best.
Information.
I will not be responsible for damages that may occur to your HTC Flyer. You are trying the procedures on this post at YOUR OWN RISK.
There are 2 method highlighted below, chose the one that suits you.
Check the build.prop in the attached zip file to see the critical changes I made to make it work. Compare with your current build.prop
You can also try this on i00 ROM instead of the GFAN ROM. Can be found here.
I didn't do any much so don't donate to me. Donate to the guys I thanked above. All I need is to know if worked or not with a "Thanks" if it worked . So that other can benefit from it.
If it doesn't work I will assist as much as I can. Even HTC or Tmobile can get this done for me.
Method 1: For Starters
1. Backup your Contacts, SMS, Call logs, Applications, Settings, etc. to your SDCard.
2. Save a copy of your (GFAN) ROM in the root of your SDCARD and rename as PG41IMG.zip. Just in case your Flyer gets stocked on the boot screen. You will use this image to restore your Flyer.
3. Download TMO_US_WIFICALLING.zip attached to this post.
4. Extract TMO_US_WIFICALLING.zip to any location you want.
5. In the from the location where you extracted the zip file in the above step, install MS-HTCEMR-KNT20-02-A0-GB-04.apk. This is the GingerBread version of the Wifi-Calling App. Use Droid explorer or Android Commander.
6. Use Droid Explorer to create the folder "/data/data/com.android.kineto/lib/" on your Flyer if the folder does not exist. It should after installing the apk.
7. Double-click "ROOT_Copy_Kineto.bat" and wait for it to complete pushing the required files. Scroll down to ensure that "libkineto.so", "librilswitch.so", "libganril.so", "kineto_gan.ko" and "build.prop" where pushed successfully.
8. If anyone of the files failed to be pushed, push them using Droid Explorer or Android Commander.
9. Use android commander to ensure that "libkineto.so" was copied to "/data/data/com.android.kineto/lib/" on your HTC Flyer.
10. Reboot the Flyer.
11. Check to see if the Wifi-Calling is now working.
12. Re-install the MS-HTCEMR-KNT20-02-A0-GB-04.apk if it is taking longtime to connect and reboot. It should work after.
13. Post "Thanks" here if it works.
Method 2: For Android Guru.
1. Install the apk in the attached zip file.
2. Push the following file in the zip file attached as indicated below:
adb push ./build.prop /system/
adb push ./MS-HTCEMR-KNT20-02-A0-GB-04.apk /system/app/
adb push ./librilswitch.so /system/lib/
adb push ./libkineto.so /system/lib/
adb push ./libkineto.so /data/data/com.android.kineto/lib/
adb push ./libganril.so /system/lib/
adb push ./kineto_gan.ko /system/lib/modules/
3. Reboot the HTC Flyer.
4. Check to see if the Wifi-Calling is now working.
5. Re-install the MS-HTCEMR-KNT20-02-A0-GB-04.apk if it is taking longtime to connect and reboot. It should work after.
6. Post "Thanks" here if it works.

Try to do this on my ROM... it works on wi-fi and has the dialer ...
be sure to let me know if it works
Thanks

i00,
It tried your ROM. I couldn't even flash it. It refuses to flash for some reasons.
However, I extracted this files in the zip file attached from a MyTouch4G GingerBread update Image (PC10IMG.zip) meant for Wifi-Calling on the MyTouch4G Ginger Bread.
Is there way you could create a TMO-USA Wifi-Calling version of your ROM for the Flyer? It is Wifi-Calling is for Tmobile USA user with 3G and Wifi on their phone.
The same libkineto.so file should be available in the directory "/data/data/com.android.kineto/lib/" while the Flyer is running.
The following commands will give you an idea of where each file should be located.
_____________________________________________________
adb push ./build.prop /system/
adb push ./MS-HTCVISION-KNT20-02-GB.apk /system/app/
adb push ./librilswitch.so /system/lib/
adb push ./libkineto.so /system/lib/
adb push ./libkineto.so /data/data/com.android.kineto/lib/
adb push ./libganril.so /system/lib/
adb push ./kineto_gan.ko /system/lib/modules/
_____________________________________________________
I will donate if this can be done and works.

Wifi-calling now working on Flyer
I managed to get TMO-USA Wifi-Calling working on my Flyer running the the GFAN image.
I will provide the details later today with required files if anyone is interested.

Eris FULLY on Cricket (Root Req'd)

You need root for this full functionality to work without the broadband trick.
There are other threads, in general about this, but this is huge. By using methods by the Droid and other phones, this kid did this with an Eris. I take no credit for this, but I have been hunting for this for a long time, messing with iptables, messing with proxy's and APN's, and have been unsuccessful. Full credit goes to token419, who has put together .zip flashes for this and other carriers, all in one place..
This is without the broadband trick (you don't need it), and is good for FULL functionality, just get a Cricket plan that involves 'web'!
Thanks, to token419 from Howard Forums (and those who helped him)
NOTE: All of the things in the following threads must still be done to get your Eris on Cricket FIRST (and get that 3g icon in the top right corner)
Root your phone, and get whatever ROM you want on it.
On Cricket to start with: http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/40266-eris-cricket-wireless.html#post309039 (scroll up and down a few posts for all the info)
Web and MMS working: Flash this (and follow instructions following): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289&highlight=cricket
The flash above is not a full ROM - it should work for almost ANY Eris ROM to give full internet and MMS, on ANY ROM you use. It may or may not work on Froyo ROMs, depending which one.
(You don't need ANYthing below this line, this is for historical and informative purposes, if you'd like to read on)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.
.
.
.
.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requirements:
1. Rooted Phone (see guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647707)
2. Recovery Console (see above)
3. PST (dial ##778 on your phone, pw 000000) settings already entered correctly and showing 3G or EV icon (see guide here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1630517)
Instructions for Web/MMS:
1. Copy the cricket_eris_web_mms_v9.zip to the root of your sd card
2. Boot into recovery mode
3. Flash cricket_eris_web_mms_v9.zip
4. Reboot
5. Choose "Always Allow" to the SU prompt if one comes up
6. Open your app drawer
7. Open APN Backup & Restore
8. Select "Delete APNs"
9. Select "Restore APNs"
10. Select "cricket_eris_apn.xml"
10. Browse the web and spam your MMS messages to your friends

If MMS continues to NOT work, try this:
MMS: http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/51990-eris-cricket-mms-wep.html#post432287
At your own risk:
EVERYTHING BELOW HERE CAN BE REPLACED WITH TOKEN419'S FLASHABLE ZIP FOR WEB (which I just posted right above the quote that is a few lines up):
token419 said:
Your instructions/title look exactly like Brandonharrison's post on howard forums, if you got the instructions from him it may be nice to give him credit Also you may want to change the words "Hero" to "eris" since this is an eris guide also you can skip the part about spc unlocking from CDMA WS, since the eris comes factory with spc of 000000.
Anyways if your tracking the thread on howard you can update the web portion, to what i posted to get full market and apps working, credit goes to the team at howard forums who worked on getting it working for the motodroid. i simply modified their work so that it would work on the eris.
Feel free to delete [the next steps below] and replace with my instructions if you wish, to simplify the process for any new comers. (we are working to get this edited in brandons post over at howard currently since he can no longer edit his post)
As promised here is a single flashable zip that will hande the OS side to get Web/MMS up and running
Download from the attachment below or from here:
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
As always, make a nandroid backup first
download the zip and read the readme inside for instructions
Click to collapse
So unzip his .zip file, and two .zip files will appear. the one that has web and MMS listed in it, put that on your SD card, boot into recovery, make a nand backup, and flash zip from SD card (and choose the .zip file you just put on the sd card)
But, whether token419's flash works for you or not, here are the instructions that CREATED that flash:
Requirements:
Rooted Rom
Autostart (Root) from android market (free)
u2nl.zip from white rabbits site whiterabbit.org (hit Android stuff at the bottom, then get the pre-compiled Droid binary - Eris is included in that file)
Following Brandon's Guide and replace the internet portion with the steps listed below
Step 2. Setting up
What you need: u2nl.zip from white rabbits site whiterabbit.org
install Autostart (Root) from android market
Unzip the u2nl.zip to your androidsdk/tools folder so that u2nl and autostart.sh are in your androidsdk/tools folder. (use the autostart.sh that's in the Eris folder, not the one in the Droid folder!)
adb shell su
(look on phone to push 'Allow' or 'Always Allow' if it pops up - if not, then move to the next line)
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /data/
mkdir opt
chmod 0777 /data/opt/
chmod 0777 /system/bin/
exit
adb remount
adb push autostart.sh /data/opt/autostart.sh
adb push u2nl /system/bin/u2nl
adb shell
chmod 0777 /data/opt/autostart.sh
chmod 0777 /system/bin/u2nl
reboot
click always allow on the prompt to allow the Autostart app to run at system startup
you should now have working market/apps/web, WITHOUT ANY PROXY, and WITHOUT THE BROADBAND trick.

Eris on revol
Hi i was wondering, do you please know of a way to make this also work on revol wireless. Thanks
If you can find the autostart.sh that other Android users have used to get it on their phones, then you can use EVERYTHING ELSE in this post I made, but use the autostart.sh that is appropriate for Revol.
Also, try to find the .xml file that users use to get the MMS working.
If you can find either of those two things, then you can use EXACTLY the instructions above for putting your phone on Revol.
Revol prls
Please, anyone know where i can find revol prls to download. Tried googling but they seem not to be easy to find as cricket prls. Thanks in advance.
So let me get this straight,, this would allow one to have data and sms for free??? does this work for verizon?

Free?
No, you get an account with Cricket instead of Verizon, tell them you have customer supported 'flashed' hardware, and follow these instructions according to your Phone # and MSID/MEID and home SID.
Cricket is like $45/month for unlimited everything instead of Verizon's unlimited which is WELL over twice that price.
The 3g is slower and sms is a little less reliable, but the price is right!
Revol mms
I have searched everywhere for the .xml file for revol but can't seem to find it. Do you by chance happen to know of a link? Thanks.
I have a new updated zip here that is alot more complete and should get web/mms working more reliably, i have tested on a HTC rom, a cyanogen eclair rom, and a cyanogen froyo rom, all working 100% for me. But if any issues arise please let me know and ill do my best to help get them resolved.
feel free to update your post/instructions/attatchments from my post here:

Is the updated version V10?
Can you switch this to Edify Scripting (updater-script & update-binary) to create a working update zip package with gingerbread?
If you try to apply this ZIP after updating to ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 the install with abort because the scripting language is deprecated.
Please help!!!!!

Big props to User Error for modifying this for the Dell Streak! Head over to Modaco to d/l.
Not the Streak, but you get the idea. Skip to 35 sec in:
Install by copying to /data/local. Full instructions from fone_fanatic:

3 Options to install.
First step: Extract downloaded .zip file to reveal "bootanimation.zip"
1. ADB
Navigate to the folder containing "bootanimation.zip" in terminal/command prompt.
Type the following
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /Data/Local
Then to test, set your device so display is in landscape (will not display properly if you have it on portrait and test it but will display fine either way on boot)
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
2. Root Explorer
Copy "bootanimation.zip" to your SD card
On your Streak open up Root Explorer (or any other app that allows you to copy paste to the internal memory)
Copy "bootanimation.zip" and paste it to /Data/Local
3. Terminal Emulator
thanks nickshertzer, his directions are for drop box but can easily be manipulated for simply copying the bootanimation.zip to your SDcard
nickshertzer said:
BTW, if you don't have / want to get out that sync cable for ADB, use dropbox & Terminal Emulator. Make sure you download the .zip using dropbox longpress first before running following command (requires Busybox / can't remember if it is installed default on Steve's ROM)
Code:
su
cp /sdcard/dropbox/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot

[Q] Looking for AT&T Hotspot app

Does anyone have the APK for the AT&T Hotspot App (WISPr46_Android22_signed.apk)? This is the one thing I miss most about the FR008 ROM - having the Aria automatically connect to AT&T hotspots. I know I can use the web form, but it's a pain in the rear.
Thanks in advance.

Go to this thread and download one of the rooted AT&T ROMs, unzip it and pull the apk out.
Found the APK in the most recent 2.2.2 ROM from Gene Poole. Pulled it out and copied it to the Aria. "Application not installed". Oh well. Thanks though!

How did you copy it to the phone? If you boot into recovery and mount /system as Read/Write, then you should be able to type "adb push [name of hotspot].apk /system/app.
I just ran Astro to browse to the APK, then let its app manager do its thing. Being a novice, I appreciate the more detailed instructions. I'll give that a try if I can follow that.

Assuming you have the adb tools installed on your PC (you probably do if you have rooted your phone):
1. Reboot the phone into ClockworkMod recovery. Make sure you do not have the USB cable connected at this point.
2. Select the "mounts and storage" option.
3. Select the "mount /system" option.
4. On your PC open a command window and set your working directory to your "adb\tools" directory.
5. Plug your phone into the USB cable.
6. In the command window type "adb devices". It should respond to with your device name.
7. Copy the WISPr46_Android22_signed.apk to the adb\tools directory.
8. In the command window type: adb push WISPr46_Android22_signed.apk /system/app
9. On the phone select "unmount /system"
10. Unplug the phone.
11. Reboot the phone.
I needed to install the tools, but after that everything went smoothly. However, I don't see the process running, and the icon does not exist. There is an .ODEX file for this package as well; do I need to do anything with that? Or do anything special after the phone rebooted?

Yes you need to push the ODEX file too. That is probably why you got "Application not installed" the first time when you tried it through Astro.
Still no love. I pushed both files over, followed the instructions, and it does not appear to be there. Also tried using Astro again just for good measure (with the ODEX file in the same location as the APK), same message. I guess this package just will not install on this ROM.
I appreciate the help - if nothing else I've learned a lot about how the system works!
I'm looking at potentially flashing Gene Poole's 2.2.2 ROM over FR008 anyway, which should put this app back in place in the process, so we'll see.
Thanks again!
Update to this thread:
After upgrading my phone to the latest 2.2.2 ROM from Gene Poole (hoxnet 005b) I was able to successfully install this app using the method described above. The 005b ROM does not include the APK anymore though, so if you want this you'll need to snag it from an older ROM.

Google Talk 1.3 on 2.3.3

This took a lot of trial and error, so I thought I should post my method for everyone! I am running MIUI_1.4.29_OsiMood Optimized v1.3, which is a 2.3.3 Rom, however, I am relatively certain this should apply to any glacier 2.3.3 rom, including older miui and cm7. Here is how I did it:
Download lithid gapps 0504 signed.zip from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056205
I ended up with a mess of FCs trying to flash this zip as instructed, so I extracted the zip and did the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb push libtalk_jni.so /system/lib/
adb push Talk.apk /system/app/
adb push GoogleServicesFramework.apk /system/app/
You then need to properly set the permissions for both Talk.apk and GoogleServicesFramework.apk
I used Root Explorer to browse to these files in /system/app/ long press on each of them and set permissions to the following:
User: Read Write
Group: Read
Others: Read
Reboot
At this point I was able to make and receive voice and video calls. Switching cameras crashes, and phone should be landscape when initializing video chat.
In order to use these features over cellular data, I was able to use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13477675&postcount=1
There is a new Talk.apk floating around that should work over cellular without any hacking, however I have not tried it yet and cannot say if it will work with the rest of this. That file is attached as talk1.3.nowifi.update-signed.zip here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13328944&postcount=1
Obviously you should all remember to back up your system, clearing cache and Dalvik Cache may help as well.
Hope someone finds this helpful!
I can verify that this works! I couldn't get the other (flash through recovery) methods to work, but this did the trick. I used the same files you did, I don't really have the need for video chat over 4g
i can install this app on mytouch ginger bread 2.3.3 stock rom leaked?

[Guide] How to have write protection disabled on boot with stock rom

For this to work you will need to be rooted with twrp installed.
This is for people who are on the stock rom or a rom without init.d support.
1. Download the wp_mod.ko file from @flar2's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701816
and copy it over to your SD card (either internal or external)
2. Boot into twrp
3. Select the "Mount" option on the main menu and tick system
4. Go back to the main menu and then go into the "Advanced" option. There will be a "File Manager" option
5. Navigate to the folder you saved the .ko file in and copy it (just touch the file and it will bring up the menu)
6. now navigate to /system/lib/modules and copy the file there by hitting the "select" button on the bottom right.
7. Navigate to /system/lib/modules and insure the file is there. Now touch it to bring up the menu. select "Chmod" option and enter in 644
8. reboot the device
9. Once booted fully open up Terminal emulator and type:
su
insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko
10. Once that's done open up a file manager app with root access and mount as r/w and navigate to /system/etc and look for the file install-recovery.sh
11. edit the file using a text editor, adding the line insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko towards the bottom of the file
12. reboot and enjoy r/w on boot without running the command every time
13. profit
is this like being s-off, without being actually s-off
Not entirely, you will be able to make changes to system files while booted but you won't be able to flash fastboot zips like s-off
Or you could flash this kernel.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705074
And yes it does work on stock

that will only work to repair writing to SD CARD. This fix is for writing to the system.
Personally... If you can get s off.. I would do so. Makes life easier in the long run.

HI, I have an HTC One m8 developer edition
Phone details and software levels.
Model HTC One M8
Android 4.4.2
HTC sense 6.0
Software 1.54.1540.9
HTC SDK API level 6.17
I have being trying to set the r/w on system but with no success. I have followed instructions in several items in XDA and none of these have worked. I tried your method, but when finally I reboot and run root explorer I still see the folders mounted as r/o..
the .ko file is in the correct directory and install-recovery.sh is correctly modified.
Any help/assistance would be appreciated.

First off, please don't quote the whole top post when its a long guide like this. I know its the default to quote the post when you reply. So just delete it, before you submit your post. We don't need the thread cluttered up with multiple reposts of what is already in the top post.
The mod makes very specific changes to the kernel, so I would say there is most likely no way in heck this will work on an M7, and might even damage it.

Ok... Sorry and thanks
HTC M8 and rw fix
Still unable to get this to work,I followed your detailed instructions and wp_mod.ko is in correct directory with correct permission and install-recovery.sh is modified correctly.
However after final rebott (several in fact) /system is still r/o
I took a TRWP backup before I started so I restored and followed your instructions again , still same result, should this work immediately or will it take several reboots before it is operative? Other discussions on this and other sites indicate the latter.

Whichever Sense file corresponds to your Android build in Settings>About>Software.
If you are on the stock ROM, I'm guessing 4.4.2, since I do not believe 4.4.3 has rolled out to T-Mobile yet.
As usual, I would make a nandroid before flashing anything.
