[Q] Themed Swype - Motorola Droid X2

Does anyone out there know of or have a themed swype.apk? I am looking for a black keyboard. I have found threads about this for the DX but nothing for X2. Maybe Swype is not something that many people use anymore, I came from a BB and I really enjoy Swyping.

If you're phone is rooted and you're not uncomfortable removing system apps. You can remove Swype 2 and install the Swype 3 beta. It's skinned with a black keyboard.
I had the exact opposite question. I was wondering if anyone knew how to skin the Swype 3 keyboard white.

Thanks that is exactly what I was looking for. I just renamed 3 files for the pre-installed system swype application instead of removing them, then I installed the beta and all is well.
Good luck finding the white keyboard skin. Hopefully now that GB is on the X2 there will be more rom's and themes produced.

I would so love a themed swype for the x2, I have tried to edit it with ninjamorph but it just fails or I do which ever is the case it doesn't work

I keep getting a parsing error when updater 1.5 tries to update. Been doing this since they updated recently. So sad. That swype 3 is so much better than 2.x ones.
EDIT: Got past the parsing error but now I get force closes with the new swipe 3.x. I renamed the swype.apk to .bak and moved the libswype file to my sdcard and rebooted. Then installed swype 3. Did I miss a file to be removed?
EDIT: Uninstalled the installer and Swype 3, rebooted, and wiped cache and dalvik. Reinstalled the installer and Swype; all is good now. Thx for the post that caused me to try and get it installed again. I had given up on it.

If you want to theme Swype, decompile the apk with apktool. The keyboard images are in the assets folder.
Now here is the good part, I'm pretty sure it is legally stated that since Swype comes with our phone we are entitled to new versions of Swype on our phone and included in third-party ROM's. That means you can download the beta Swype 3.x, decompile the apk, theme it, recompile it, crack the licensing, sign it, and then use it on your phone or ROM.
Before I get in trouble for saying it though, it would probably be better to check with a moderator. Keep that in mind!

[Q] Themes and icons

Having just moved from an iPhone im still learning here so bear with me. It seems as installing custom themes and/or customizing app icons is not as easy as installing winterboard and throwing a theme up. I'm a big buuf/mattahan fan and I've had that theme on my iphone since my 2G. After doing some research it seems that there are a couple of ways to change an app icon. First I could open up the .apk and insert the new icon, then resign the package and put it back on the phone. Second there seems to be an app called metamorph which is similar to winterbord but only works on certain phones.
Am I missing some easier way? I'm willing to spend some time on a package that I could share with others if I knew how.
Thanks

Metamorph does work on the vibrant if you were wondering
Some theme makers also make update.zip's that you can flash from recovery, but most prefer metamorph because its more universal.
also if you use a replacement launcher like ADW launcher which is on the market, then you can download themes from the market and simply choose them from the launchers menu.
In fact I beleive ADW launcher has a buuf theme.
theres also a keyboard app on the market called better keyboard that has a buuf theme (better keyboard is a paid app though)

Swype on nook

Is anyone able to get Swype working on nook? I'm able to install it okay to system/app same way I do swift and select it but won't open for me

It looks like Swype is only working on the Nookie Froyo build. We tried many different things on the original nook color but no go. Do a search for swype in the forums and you'll find the post that talks more in detail.
SlideIT is a swype type keyboard that works on the rooted nook.

[Q] AOSP Keyboard to Replace HTC Keyboard

I am running stock HTC Sense ROM until CM7 is released.
Coming from CM7 on the DINC, the main thing I cant stand right now is the HTC Keyboard. I want to replace it with the AOSP keyboard.
Has anyone done this before?
BTW, yes I am rooted.
download gingerbread keyboard of the market
Instead of replace, download gingerbread keyboard from the market. Free and it works nicely. Typing from it to post .

This is the keyboard I've been using for a while on my Dinc and installed first thing on my Tbolt when I got it. It works great.
That works. Didnt realize the keyboard was on the Market. Should have checked I guess...
Thanks
+1. Using Steven Lin's Gingerbread Keyboard until CM7. Excellent on the DInc as well as on the TB.
I used this GB/Lin keyboard for roughly 10 min. until I realized landscape mode in Mail is terrible. Anyone else have the keyboard take up 95% of the screen in landscape mode and in Mail? Messages and Gmail are fine. Just Mail.
Swype
Swift key takes the same amount on landscape. Swype looks good and its takes less real estate on portrait and landscape. But the beta version is having an issue not automatically spacing after each word. If you google beta swype and register you can download and install swype. Or you can google EVO swype and download that version. The space issue is not on that version, but you do lose the mic option. It's a toss up on your decision. I personally can go with no mic for now.

why not use swype?? does the work much faster
dunno, i like the multitouch better. does swype work with hungarian words too? and btw, there's no swype in cm7, and afaik swype is not a free app, and i can't buy any apps from the market because im in hungary
You can register on beta.swype.com and get the latest beta built of swype.
Btw i'm using MultiLing Keyboard by Honso and i really like it!
I use HTC mod input because it's much better than the android standard.
The auto correct is accurate, at least in Dutch and English. It takes a week to get used to, but if you set setting right, it's quite nice.
you can set that volume buttons are used for scrolling in tekst and swipe changes language. If he doesn't know the word you tried to type and it corrects it, you just have to delete the space and press space again to ad it to the dictionary.

agree, motorola one is great, you write faster with it.. maybe cause its larger or something like that but for doing letter by letter input method is the best one!
anyone get it working on cm7 yet?
try swiftkey beta from market
even I don't like CM7's keyboard. I tried using one from a different ROM but no luck http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110297
So I've installed smart keyboard trial from Market which is awesome, and has many themes. there's a buy full version popup , once every 24 hours in the trial version, everything else is the same. I've also installed swype

Keyboard?

So I'm new to Android.. I use an iPhone everyday...
What keyboard would you suggest? the stock one is Meh and the predictive text seems to fail me several times a day... Any Suggestions?
I use Keyboard Manager to switch automatically between Swype in portrait and the stock Gingerbread keyboard in landscape. I have a buddy who swears by Swift Key, so give that a try as well.

I've looked a Swift but wasn't sure if it was worth 3 dollars lol
Oh, I think I got it for free at some point a the Amazon app of the day. Give Swipe a go, I really like it.

swype beta is free
Swype beta is free and is a very quick way to input text. As an added bonus i have been able to use voice input via the fire key. The voice recognition works with both the stock Ron and cm7. However it is very technical to install on stock rom because you have to side load app, and then make sure you are rooted and then use file explorer to cut the swype app from the Data/app folder and paste to system/app folder. Next you have to long press on the swype app you pasted into system/app and change permissions to read and write (all checkboxes). Also remember to copy the library files over. Cm7 is so much easier...
Found an old version of swift... installed it.. and it felt out of place... i just want the original with a better Prediction lol
Thumb Keyboard is easily better than any other I'm aware of for a tablet. I use Smart keyboard pro on my phone.

+1 on Keyboard Manager + Swype + another keyboard (in my case, I use Hacker Keyboard in landscape). But the key is getting that Keyboard Manager to do the switching, thanks for turning me on to that!
In another thread I found a way to Copy and Paste on Nook Tablet! by switching between Swype and the Hacker Keyboard. Well, this little trick makes it even easier to do that. So thanks, again!
