Settlers HD - strategy at its best - Nook Color Themes and Apps

Started it today and its really amazing for the NOOK since it requires a big screen to be playable in my opinion.
Great graphics and really interesting.

I can't find it in the market, where can I get it?
ETA: Ah, its from Gameloft.

How did you get yours to work? Mine says has to download data and then after it downloads it still small screen like for a phone. How big was your data?

Go into the app "spare parts" and un-check compatibility mode.
May need a reboot, then you should be in full screen.
I don't have this game, but most frequently this is the issue when an app plays on a small portion of the screen.

Extra data was around 200mb and the screen is full.
Probably the problem is what Blue6IX says.

yup, worked for me after goin into spare parts

THANK YOU! This worked perfectly!

Given you have to disable compatibility mode to get full screen...doesn't that implicitly imply that this is _not_ "HD"?

HD means whatever you want it to mean... The original android phone (G1) was 320x480 so modern phones (800x480) are very "HD" in comparison. The NC just happens to be even higher definition (1024x600).

I would think the better question is, when compatibility is turned off and it works in full screen, does it look like it's scaled to fit? Or does it actually look proper high resolution?
When I say "scaled to fit" I mean like how PvZ/Peggle from Amazon are obvious scaled to fit and not full high resolution.

stock 1.2?
Any thoughts on how to make it work on nootered BN stock 1.2/froyo?
Video playing problem on other Gameloft games.
Thanks!

The games that I've had to disable compatibility mode for to get full screen haven't appeared to be scaled. They look like native 1024x600. Wave Blazer comes to mind.

I can't seem to get this to work on my CM7 NC. I purchased it with the $1 india method, and bought it for the droid X, but after it downloads the data, plays the gameloft intro video, shows the disclaimer, it crashes to launcher with no message.
Any ideas? how did you all buy the game? which device did you buy it for?

DENSITY SETTINGS..how changing then can get apps/games to run..POST YOURS HERE...

In trying to optimize my CM7, RC4 setup, I realized that changing the LCD density from 161 to 160 allowed a game that I never got to work before to run perfectly...The game is "fruit slice"...Now I wonder how important this may be with multitudes of games and apks? Anyone else notice this on other apps?? If you've figured one out, or a complete workaround that cures this scaling issue, please offer any insights you might have.I'd rather not have to make folders of certain apps that only work at so-and-so density..but..

I've been using 140 pretty much exclusively. I don't like the Fisher Price look of the big huge icons you get with 200 that so many here are fond of.
I set mine at 210. The only app that doesn't scale correctly is Google Reader.

After changing to 160 i get a black screen on boot but i fixed it. Does this work on honeycomb?
For those asking how to change it, there is an app in the market (although I've never used it), or you can use Root Explorer to edit the build.prop file in your system folder. Just scroll down until you see something about LCD Density (sorry, don't have my Nook in front of me) with a 161 after it, change that number to one of the numbers listed in this thread. I use 140, some use much higher numbers. You'll have to reboot for the change to take effect.

Funny how that is. I just tried Fruit Slice at 210, 161 & 160. 160 was the only one that worked.
I would suggest Fruit Ninja for 210, but it's a paid app. I bought it a long time ago, and it works great at 210. It was the free app of the day on on the Amazon Appstore the other day, and I have seen the free apps repeat.
...or you could just go with 160.
I have fruit ninja too...I was just wondering if there was some magic cure-all for all apps when used on the nook, or was the reason perhaps just lazy coding by certain app devs.

Apps / Games Not Full Screen

Just a reminder for anyone having an issue with games / applications not being full screen. I have heard this can cause an issue with older software but have yet to run into an issue. [APP][CM9]Evernote/Kindle UI for ICS

If you're running the latest ICS nightly (since 2012-02-02, I think) and use Evernote, you've probably noticed that it not longer displays the tablet UI.
For some reason, the Evernote app calculates width of the screen is 4.xxxx instead of the 7.xxxx required for displaying the tablet UI.
I've modified the APK to ignore the calculation so that the app displays the tablet UI.
I hope you like it.
com.evernote-2.apk
UPDATE: Some people have asked me to look at the Kindle app too.
Looking into it, but it is a little more complex ...
If you already have Evernote, you'll need to uninstall it before trying to install this one.
Tip:
Copy this to /system/app to ensure you'll never lose it ...
That way if you update the app thru the market and lose the tablet UI you can uninstall updates

Hey, cool! I read about this in your posts on the user thread. How did you do this? I don't know enough to diagnose it, but I would be interested in digging through a couple different apps in this manner.
Do you have access to the block of code you changed or are you dis-assembling this to make this work? This is a common problem across a few google apps as well (chrome, docs, etc) Just wondering if you had any insight into the root problem.
Yeah, that's why I want to know as well. I saw people asking you to take a look at the Kindle app over in the development thread, and I figure instead of buying us dinner you could just teach us how to fish, you know?
Yeah I disassembled the apk.
Essentially, I searched the decompiled files for the word "tablet" ... When I thought I found what I was looking for, I compared it against the logcat.

Yeah unfortunately it's not fixed on the Nook Color or the Touchpad.
I'll upload a picture of the Kindle app and describe the differences of tablet mode and phone mode on the Nook. I am very interested in having my NC as well as my TP displaying the Kindle app correctly for landscape mode. Without the split screen with two pages displayed in landscape mode, it's a long traverse to read a line across the entire length if the tablet. Lol
If you still have time to look into this, I would be very grateful. No worries either way.
Thanks for the Evernote fix!

Hi leapinar,
I am on the latest version and the Kindle app is not in tablet mode at 160 dpi. I do see the changes you mentioned. However just to be clear, when you hold your Nook in landscape orientation does the screen split and have two side by side pages like an open book?
Edit: I disassembled the apk, but it is not clear at all to me what is triggering the tablet view/install. I tried a few edits and reassembled the apk and nadda.. At this point I am just blindly throwing darts..
Guys,
Sorry about disappearing ... I was out of town for work for a couple of days and busy on a new work project.
I've looked at the new version of the Kindle app, and yes the margins are better, but having the ability to adjust them like the phone would be ideal.
I'm looking at the code to see if I can just swap out the tablet reader view with the phone view, giving us the phone menu options.
A little slow going ...

Would just like to second this - the app is actually semi-unusable without it being switched because there's no way to access 'menu' (no hard button on the NC and no softbutton shows up in the app).

[Q] Get Plants vs. Zombies To Run on The Nook Tablet? [CM7]

(Note: I'm running CM7 on my Nook Tablet, the current public alpha release.)
I've been having a pretty bad day since I think I may have wasted my money on purchasing Plants vs. Zombies from the Android Market; it just won't run. I've let it install updates, but once I see that hourglass load screen it crashes and I'm back at my home screen; no force close messages, nothing.
Another strange problem is that now I can't re-download it from the Android Market on my Nook Tablet. I cleared the cache and wiped the data for my Market and for some reason that made it disappear from the market. When I browse the market on my PC, it now says that Plants vs. Zombies is incompatible with my Nook Tablet even though it said it was compatible when I installed it! WTF. I even re-flashed and I still can't get it from the market on my tablet now - I had to download it via my phone and use Titanium Backup to get it to my tablet.
Can anyone help me out with this? Between the game not working and the android market acting weird towards me, this is turning out to be a pretty annoying experience.

I've seen it before (with a drawing app ... can't quite remember the title) where the versions on the different app stores were different, and one worked and the other didn't. Sketchpad, I think. That may be the case here. Now that you've got it installed, can you clear data on it? And, do you have an SD card installed? I know there are some significant resources, and it may be hard-coded to look for an SD card.

[Q] App required screen size, work around for Note?

There are some apps in the Play Store that I would like to use on my Note. Unfortunately they have restrictions like screen res. and physical screen size. One such app requires a screen size of at least 8.9", but the resolution requirement is the same as our Note.
Is there anyway to "fake" it so I can get the app?

Unfortunately, 1 doesn't mean anything to me. I'm newish to Android. I had a tablet briefly (had to return it) and in that time purchased the app I'm talking about, but because I don't have that app, I don't really have a way to get the app on the Note.
When I had the tablet, I was able to side load it onto another device. But as I said, I don't have the tablet, so I'm looking for an alternative method. I've been considering Rooting and flashing ICS anyways. But if this app doesn't work, I might not bother. Or rather, if I have no way to "get" the app.
Thanks though. I do appreciate the response because it continues the searching and thinking process for me.
What is this mystery app? I am running tablet mode on my note (213 dpi on CM9) and would be more than happy to see if it comes up as available for install. Have you also tried going to the market through a web browser and seeing what it says?

Haha. No real mystery I guess, but I wasn't sure what would get discussed here or if it might be against policy. The app is Adobe Ideas which was updated to 1.5.1 and works with the upcoming gNote 10.1. So, I was curious if it shows up with a rooted and ICS'd gNote 5.3 with the proper "dpi" as you put it. After that, it's a matter of figuring out with the pressure sensitivity works with the app.
When I visit the store through the web browser it says it's only compatible with the tablet I returned. I haven't rooted and ICS'd my Note yet. If this app works though, it would push me over the edge to do it.
It won't come up in the market thru app on my note. Through browser says compatible with some of my devices. Without hitting the purchase button I am going to wager a guess that it is compatible with my Transformer but not my Note.

Well, that's a bummer that it doesn't show up. But that doesn't mean it doesn't work.
So changing dpi is generally what you would do to make tablet apps show up? So back to the original question. Is there a way to get around this app not showing up in the store?
