Does bootmanager break CM7 GPS? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought the bootmanager app off the market which allows you to boot different roms on one device and switch without losing data. I have CM7 installed on my phone and want to boot a sense rom off my sd using bootmanager, but the last time I went from sense to cm7 it broke my GPS and i had to reflash a sense rom to get things working. Will flashing a sense rom break it again?
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App

No it definitely will not. CM7 is the only rom the breaks the GPS and it only does it occassionally. The fix when GPS breaks is to flash back to a sense rom and reflash CM7. So there is no way flashing a sense rom will break gps

GPS
I run Liquid AOSP 3.2 which is based on CM7, I just recently installed bootmanager,
I've installed the ICS Alpha and regular CM7 so far and GPS is still working well.
I'm now installing XDAbolt, but my theory is it can only help with GPS issues in CM7 roms, in theory since you install sense, wipe everything and then install cm7 to fix the gps, it's not the files that get screwed up but the calibration of the gps itself, so in theory if you use bootmanager and have a sense rom installed, if GPS breaks in a CM7 based rom you should be able to boot into Sense, get a lock and then boot back to your CM7 rom.
That's just a theory mind you, it may not fix it like I'm thinking it would, but I can't see installing sense breaking it. We'll see when I boot into Sense
Update,
No isssues booted into Sense used GPS, then booted into AOSP, GPS still works fine

[Q] weird problems with evil fascination 3.6

Hi guys,
I am new to the XDA forums so forgive me if this is really stupid or if someone has posted the same problems. I searched for an answer but couldn't seem to find someone with my problem. Forgive me if this is long. I just want to make sure you guys know all the details so we can figure out what went wrong.
I recently flashed the Evil Fascination 3.6 Rom from a modified stock version of ED04 (debloated/debinged). I believe that my version of CWM recovery was 2.5.1 or something like that (w/ voodoo lagfix). I am pretty new to the Android world but I do believe I did everything correctly. I wiped Cache and Dalvik Cache and Data multiple times and made nandroid backups etc.
I flashed the Rom with no problems and everything worked just fine. I was trying out Regina 3D launcher at the time (I regularly use Launcher Pro), and for some reason it seemed a little slow to load up (I figured it had to do with it being the first time with the new rom). I kept having loadup problems with the launcher so I uninstalled it and went back to Launcher Pro. Launcher Pro even seemed like it was acting weird but I didn't take much notice to it.
Now yesterday I downloaded the OTB 1.6 Touchwiz kernel. Everything I've read said it was compatable with Evil Fascination. I tried to flash it from CWM recovery and it didn't work. My phone stayed stuck on the Evil Fascination boot up screen and finally I just popped the battery out. I went back into CWM and just wiped everything and reflashed Evil Fascination. It seemed to work fine with Launcher Pro (again a little glitchy at times, but I took no notice really).
I again tried to flash the OTB 1.6 kernel. This time instead of doing it from the recovery I downloaded an app called SGS kernel flasher. I did what it said and it flashed the kernel for me with no boot up problems like CWM did. I rebooted and then booted into CWM to check it and it was changed from version 2.5.1 (voodoo) to 3.2.0.0.otb. I figured this meant that the kernel flash was sucessful. I went to reboot my phone and when the home screen came on it was a froyo style launcher with only 2 or three icons on the page. I pressed the app drawer and none of my apps showed up that were on my sd card. finally i pressed the home button and it asked for which launcher to choose : LauncherPro or the default and I chose LauncherPro. My regular setup appeared and my apps were in the app drawer. I found it weird that my apps showed in LauncherPro but not in the default launcher.
Now with doing phone reboots my phone always goes to the default launcher with no apps from my sd card and I have to wait to press the home button for LauncherPro to appear. I set it as my default launcher but it never loads when my phone is rebooted.
I was just recently (within the last hour) doing regular things on my phone (texting, internet , email etc) ad all of a sudden I got the shut down boot animation from my rom and my phone turned off. I went to turn it back on and my phone stayed stuck on the boot screen again. Now you can figure what I did again. I went through and did everything over and reloaded the rom and kernel. I am still having the same problems with the launcher as I did before and I have no idea whats going on. I just want to avoid going through this again. Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on???
If I were to guess I would say your problems comes from trying to flash the otb kernel with a 2.x.x.x recovery..i don't believe that recovery supports edify scripting.....i would odin a 3.x.x.x recovery and re flash the otb kernel...and I don't know much about that app you are referring to, but I wouldn't use a market app to try to install a kernel unless specifically directed to in the author's o.p.
I'm not a dev..just a flash-a-holic! but I think that should help your problem

I'm also no expert but after running into constant force closes and random problems with launcherpro I decided to go with go launcher and its been a great switch for me.

Hey guys, still no luck. I don't know what it is. I wish I knew more about hacking and doing all this kind of stuff
Try flashing a PBJ kernel!
can you get into CWM with the three finger salute?
[hold down the two volume buttons and the power until your phone reboots and you see samsung then let go]
See if you can mount as usb to get the kernel on there, if that doesnt work go to staples get a microsd card reader [under $15] and toss the pbj on your card then flash that.
When i was on EF and Comm Rom my phone didnt like the OTB kernels
Good Luck!
My recovery menu works fine and I can boot into it from the ROM without problem. My problem is that when I reboot the phone the ROM's default launcher is setup (and it is missing all of my apps) even though I set Launcher Pro as my default. I have to reset all my defaults in Launcher Pro every time my phone is turned off or rebooted. I would be on PB&J but I like to overclock my phone and PB&J doesn't support voltage control and I don't want to pay for and overclocking app.

From what I've read many people have disagreements on whether 2.5 supports Edify or not....because a lot of people have success with it while others don't so I really don't know. Its never given me problems in the past. I actually had more problems with 3.X recoveries (It wouldn't allow me to make nandroid backups and other things that were essential) so I flashed 2.5 and it worked perfect (again I've read about people having the same problems with 3.0 versions of CWM).
Okay what I've found is that this has nothing to do with Launcher Pro. I downloaded He Launcher and when I reboot my phone everytime it asks me to pick a default launcher. And when I'm using He Launcher, none of the apps on my SD card show up in the app drawer (they don't show up in the default ROM launcher either, they only show up in launcher pro)
Efan450 I tried what you said and it worked! I odined a 3.X recovery and wiped everything oof my phone then flashed the ROM and kernel and everything is working perfectly now. Thank you very much!!!

[Q] best current rom?

Sorry tried a few different roms and coming to wits end
Just wondering which of these is a good stable rom
Tried most recently cm7 and miui the ran good but GPS was wonky at best
Always had to reboot to use
Just wondering what would be a good rom with decent performance that GPS works with.

I think GPS works in Bionix, it is a 2.2 rom by team whiskey. I have never tried it.
I was using cm7 and miui, I liked both, smooth and fast, but minor issues like constant reboot required to get GPS to work. So I'm back on stock deodexed/rooted kb5. GPS works ok, but definitely better than on GB.

In my opinion it doesn't get any better than TeamWhiskey Bionix-v 1.3.1 with Tigers BLood Kernel.
I'm running that. TeamWhiskey has never failed me.
i was on RevolutionRom JVP (gingerbread) with clockworkmod recovery, and i TI Backup'd.... manually wiped data, cache, dalvik, and then installed the simply honey zip file from recovery, and it wiped for me automatically (which was expected) and now during its boot screen where it says "powered bay talon sh kernel", the phone simply goes into a bootloop.
so now my question is, how do i go back to bionix-v (froyo) from the gingerbreaded bootloop? would i have to odin back to stock or something?

If you didn't apply the Gingerbread bootloaders i think you can just ODIN to stock then flash. If you did to the Gingerbread bootloaders I think you have to ODIN the froyo bootloaders then Odin to stock.

NO GB bootloaders are backwards compatible. No need to flash froyo bootloaders.

it really depends on you. im on miui right now because i cant go without gingerbread, but i also liked bionix. it was extremely stable
ya, it's... im also on MIUI, as 2.3 is the only os with proper copy past.... its just hard to get past the hacked drivers....
as far as the gps, i picked up a bt-gps brick that gets 1m accuracy, i can sit up in the window and works great... cost me $20.

NO GPS

So i am ion liquid ICS and i cant get gps lock---i wiped and re installed 3 times tried useing toolbox gps fix even verizions leak---anyone else having a problem.....no this is the first day this has happened i cant get any gps period
This is a problem with most asop for thunderbolt... the fix is back up your rom, install a sense rom, get gps lock, then reboot and restore your backup. Once unlocked, it looks to stay that way.

I lose all GPS on my Thunderbolt also, no matter what rom I use.
Different Rom ~
Enzo, I advise you to, since it appears you like Liquid's ROM, to install Jester's Mod (Liquidsmooth ICS JMOD). It's a separate flashable ROM. All it is is Liquid's ICS AOSP Rom, plus a couple of data tweaks, mods, special apps, and a WORKING GPS Lock.
You can find it here Hope this helps ~

I followed the link in Jester's thread, which has you flash a .zip in recovery to fix the GPS issue. Works every time.

Newts One XxX RLS 5.0 Wifi Problem

I want to give my wife's rezound more options that she is looking for out of her phone. Mainly wifi hot spotting. I installed RLS 4.0 two days ago and everything worked great except for her wifi would not turn on. Though maybe it was the kernel I used. So last night flashed the RLS 5.0 and the recomended "S-on" stock boot.img afterwards. Still the same thing. Everything seems to work great except for her wifi trys to work but will not. I've toggled the settings, turn on and off airplane mode many times etc etc. still nothing will get her wifi to run. I clean system, dalvic, cache etc each time as well. Is there something I am missing? I seen in the developers forum that a few others are having the same issue but not many. Any way to get this to work? Or is there another ROM to try? She really likes the latest sense in this ROM.
Try flashing the kernel using adb from your computer. Either that or flash a different kernel like dsb's kernel then flash the one xxx kernel over it

should I flash a custom ROM?

Been using my Vibrant ever since it came out and never deviated from the stock. The reason being that i intend my phone to be stable and want to use some of the t-mobile stuff which I fear may not be possible in other ROM. I've been reading the development section and I really have no idea which rom can fulfill my needs... since I couldn't find a list of stuff that doesn't work on those ROM.
Basically I'd like to retain the ability to use T-Mobile's wifi calling feature, plus the My Account app, (and 911, etc). Of course, the phone needs to be stable enough as I don't have a backup/landline phone. Optionally I'd like the new ROM to have a better reception in both cellular and wifi signal, as I feel they are somewhat lacking from all these years I've been using the phone.
If you think I should flash a custom ROM that's as bug-free as the rooted stock Froyo, I'd appreciate some suggestions
There is not a clear knowing of which rom will have issue with 911 dialing. As far as I know almost all if not all of the ICS and JB roms may have the issue. This user states he only managed to get 911 working on CM7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952311
With CyanogenMod roms, you will lose T-Mobile WiFi (unless there is a way to install it to CM7 I'm not sure). The alternative is using Talkatone or GrooveIP which utilize Google Voice to make free calls. My Account and other T-Mobile apps are available in the Play Store.
If you do want to install CM7:
Download the 3e Installer and update.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Follow the instruction on the 3e installer, then put update.zip into the "/sdcard" folder, also download a CM7 rom into there. Reboot into recovery by holding both Volume buttons and Power button, release them when the Samsung logo appears. In the recovery, choose and select "reinstall package" twice until the green ClockworkMod menu appears. Flash the cm7 zip file. Before you flash, you should create a Nandroid backup.
Click to collapse
If you want to stick with stock, you can at least root the device. Follow the instruction above to get into ClockworkMod, but flash only the root package: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479 (this only work with Android 2.1)
While you're at it, also flash the KB5 modem, which is the latest for the Vibrant, which can potentially improve signal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036161
Before you flash any custom roms, I suggest you root the phone and try out the app LBE Security Master (link in my sig). It can do things like freeze apps (similar to titanium backup) and prevent apps from auto launching. It does help make the phone lighter and have other useful features like quick toggles. It's a powerhouse tool. The recent version have some issues with freezing app on my XPeria Play Gingerbread though, so try an older version if you have issues.
As long as your USB port is still functional, you can always use ODIN to flash the device back to stock.
If you want Wifi calling you are going to have to stick with 2.2 / 2.2.1 / or it has been known to work with some 2.3 ROMs
If you want to remain with stock but have a little added features try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674519
The last Froyo ROMs I was a part of was Bi-Winning Redux (2.2.1) and Axura - Resurrected (2.2). Both of those roms are able to use Wifi calling. All are also able to use T-mo and Samsung apps.
Bi-Winning Redux
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769424
Axura
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787267
Those ROMs above (or any 2.2 / 2.2.1 in vibrant forum) should have working 911, and GPS with little issues.
Thanks for the information. I'm currently using the stock 2.2 (UVKB5). Did that e3 recovery thing and clockwork recovery sorta works... (only used it once to flash the latest (bugged) su binary). Bi-winning and axura both are cool looking mods. both says able do make wifi calls... is it not the same thing as Tmobile's wifi? I'm aware there are ways to route gvoice via wireless lan, but I'm trying to maintain two numbers

Yes the Wifi calling on those two ROMs is the T-mo wifi calling. The Wifi calling apps should be attached in the treads as well.
