EDIT: Application Called Anim Mod works for this too, makes it much easier, but is not free. I did not have bootloops using the app, just worked
OP: Straight from the Evo forums, this worked like a charm on my Evo 3D! I now have Flyin anims!!!
apparently, these are the same exact files that the OG Evo uses (thanks for the heads up on this, DeathBySnuggles!)
I take no credit, this is from MagnusRagnarok's post in the supersonic forum, much thanks to him and everyone else involved!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814072
basically, plug your phone into your pc, then:
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
then you can boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup (Justin Case)
take the anim folder and extract it to your pc. Open up the pulled framework-res.apk from your sdk/tools (or where-ever) folder USING 7-ZIP FILE MANAGER and drag n drop the contents from the flyin anim folder into the framework-res.apk/res/anim/ folder. If a prompt pops up, say YES to it.
***reason for 7-zip is because you do not have to resign the apk*****
now, you can push it back:
(cd to the folder the framework-res.apk is in)
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
done!
now reboot and have fun!

HOT! will definitely flash this if it is compatible..
Do you have the link to the bootanimation.zip for this. Splash is the static screen before the animation
Edit: nevermind I found it. Yes it runs on our phones, however the image is kinda small (uses about 1/3 of the screen right in the middle) and would need to be resized to look right.
Great post a link if we get this set up. Anyone care to pm me the process of changing the bootscreen?

Turn Off Boot Sound
commands for boot audio and changing boot animation:
open terminal
type 'su' then press enter
type one of the following and hit enter .. there will be no output if everything worked.
newbootsound - copies /sdcard/android_audio.mp3 as new bootsound
newbootanim - copies /sdcard/bootanimation.zip as new boot animation
bootsoundoff - turns boot sound off
bootsoundon - turns boot sound back on
If the commands don't work for you then you can use Root Explorer to perform the following:
1. Go to your System's media file (/system/media)
2. Make sure you select 'Mount System R/W' in the upper right corner.
3. Then either delete the android_audio.mp3 file or else change the file name to android_audio.mp3.bak.
4. No more boot sound
Any mp3 you put at this same location named android_audio.mp3 will be your boot sound.

I'm no adb pro, but I imagine you could pull/push the new & old files with those directories...something like "adb pull /system/media/android_audio.mp3 android_audio.mp3", then delete/overwrite that file in your sdk platform-tools folder (Windows, newer version), and do "adb push android_audio.mp3 /system/media/android_audio.mp3"
But don't quote me on that!
Thanks guys that worked. I was looking under the universal faqs thats why I couldn't find the instructions
Another way to add boot audio
Another way is to use Absolute System or Root Explorer to access system/customize/CID/default.xml and add audio under boot animation. Copy your default.xml in case you delete or mess it up. SEE ATTACHMENT for where to place in default.xml AND make sure its in the exact same place, a space over will disable the sound but won't ruin your system.

Hello Y'all!
I've created a bios-like boot animation for our wildfire:
The idea came from frysee (original thread here), but I've build all the files myself.
There are two way's to put it on your phone:
With the use of ADB:
1. place the attached bootanimation.zip in the tools folder of adb
2. open the command prompt and cd to the tools folder
3. type "adb shell" and press enter
4. type "mv <path-to-bootanimation>/bootanimation.zip <path-to-bootanimation>/bootanimation.old" and press enter
for example: mv system/media/bootanimation.zip system/media/bootanimation.old
-> now you have a backup of your original boot animation
5. exit
6. type "adb push bootanimation <path-to-bootanimation>" and press enter
for example: adb push bootanimation system/media
7. type "adb shell bootanimation" and unlock your screen. You should see the new bootanimation. Press ctrl+c to stop.
Click to collapse
New to adb -> link!
You can also replace your bootanimation by using a root explorer:
frysee said:
store on root of SD card
open root explorer make sure to make R/W
go to SDCard and copy file
navigate to bootanimation path (*)
rename bootanimation.zip to something else (bootanimation1.zip)
paste file and rename bios_bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip, if necessary
exit root explorer
reboot phone
Profit = Enjoy Bios boot animation!
Click to collapse
What is the right path to you bootanimation?
frysee said:
The right path for your bootanimation differs between devices and even ROMs, so it is hard to list the right one for every setup.
However, you should be able to track down the right one by looking for an existing bootanimation.zip using Root Explorer or ADB.
Most likely it will be one of the following:
/system/media (try this first)
/system/customize (some Evo ROMS seem to use this one)
/data/local (should work an nearly all ROMs, as long as there is no bootanimation on /system)
Click to collapse
I can only tell that on cyanogenmod 7, the boot animation is indeed stored in system/media.
When you are on a stock rooted Froyo ROM, you can folow the explanation of laraz (thank you for this, laraz!):
laraz said:
store on root of SD card
open root explorer make sure to make R/W
go to SDCard and copy file hold down on file you wont and choese copy
navigate to bootanimation path (#)froyo system>customize>rescource- paste over exsting bootanimation.zip done
rename bootanimation.zip to something else (bios_bootanimation.zip)
exit root explorer
reboot phone
Click to collapse
The speed of the animation is adapted to my phone: normaly I can only see it untill "activation root access SUCCEEDED", then I can enter my pin.
To adapt the speed of the animation to your phone/ROM, you can change the frames per second:
1. extract bootanimation.zip in the attachment
2. open desc.txt in notepath or similar program.
3. you see the folowing
Code:
240 320 4p 1 0 androidp 0 0 part1
the third number (in this case "4") is the frames per second.
4. adapt ONLY the third number to the desired amount of frames and save the file.
5. put android, part1 and desc.txt again in a zip-file. Make sure that YOU DO NOT USE ANY COMPRESION or it will not work!!!! (in WinRAR: use "compresion method: store")!!
6. Now you can try your new bootanimation!

I have created a bootanimation of this video by LSU from the 1:01 minute mark until the 1:16 minute mark with a few changes made in there. It works as it should on the computer with this bootanimation previewer.
If anyone can try it out and let me know if it works for them that would be awesome. Or If anyone can take a look and tell me if I did something wrong that would be great too.
The file is roughly about 11MB
Thanks!
Also make sure you do nandroid just in case. Although if it doesn't work you just will see a blank screen when it boots up.
Installation should work as follows:
Root Explorer method:
1. Rename your boot animation to bootanimation
2. Put it on your SD card
3. Open Root Explorer and copy bootanimation.zip to /system/media. This will replace the existing boot animation
4. Reboot your phone
ADB method:
1. Make sure you have downloaded android sdk
2. Put android sdk in C:\
3. Set the directory of command prompt to C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. Click here for a video tutorial.
4. Rename your boot animation to bootanimation and put it in C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
5. Open cmd
6. Type in order:
-adb remount
-adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
-adb reboot
ok you had a few problems.
1) you had the desc files named Part 1 and it should be Part1(no space)=fixed
2)you needed to remove the boarder from the images=fixed
3)i resized the images and turned the last 3 in jpegs and in one copy turned all images 180 degrees(landscape) which in turn made the whole file smaller(your 10.92mb --mine 6.58mb
4)i made them flashable and added the LSU fight song(remix)
not trying to take over your bootanimations just easier to fix and then let you see the changes.
I greatly appreciate it. Very new at it, and just trying to see what I can do. Thanks again!
no problem.
just rip one open to see the changes i made to them and you can use one as a template to help on your next one.

Is there any way to port this to the Galaxy Nexus. I tried the zip but it did not work. If it matters I'm running AOKP 20.
Never mind. Figured out myself. Just used working zip and put your boot animation in it.
I'll see what I can do. I'm sure it's just a resizing issue along with the proper paths. The zip is for the sense paths not AOSP paths.
If not I'm sure dased can assist.
If the battery icons are just png files, couldn't I create my own images in photoshop and replace the framework-res.apk files with my custom icons? If so, does anyone know the typical dimensions for the png images? I replaced my original battery with the ICS battery thanks to a suggestion of using NinjaMorph.
You can extract the framework-res. Apk from the system folder. Tinker around with what you find inside it. Use 7zip to modify the zip without having to resign it.
Now, flashing the update zip is not going to be easy without recovery. But you can assess png dimensions, and tinker with modding them meanwhile. It's a hobby of mine also

When you use NinjaMorph, make sure to 'finish' the project by clicking on the button, then on the project. Also, make sure the files were named exactly the same and were replaced. The battery icons used in the framework-res.apk were the ones names like such:
stat_sys_battery_bn_40.png
stat_sys_battery_bn_60.png
stat_sys_battery_bn_80.png

I'm piggybacking on this thread, but I have a question about replacing the battery images.
I've got the images (from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21003708&postcount=10), but when I open the the image folder (with NinjaMorph) in framework-res.apk/res/drawable, I can't find the corresponding image files.
In that folder, where I thought the battery images were, I have a few .xml files (stat_sys_battery.xml, stat_sys_battery_bn.xml etc) and only 2 .png files (stat_sys_battery_charge_anim6.png and stat_sys_battery_charge_anim7.png).
Am I in the wrong place, or where have I messed up along the way? Thanks in advance for any replies.
as far as image sizes go mine are 38x38 png files and they work fine. i have used several different sets without fail. also to save time you dont have to change the images, just the ones with the "bn" in the name.
also if you are doing all this on a computer you can download metamorph from the market, there is a free and paid version, and you can create the file path to the images using correctly named folder in a zip file and use metamorph to auto install. i have not tried this method myself but it should work.
@topched in ninjamorph start a new project, go to system > framework > framework-res.apk > res > drawable-mdpi, scroll down till you see the battery images.
also if you wanted to create the metamorph the file path is framework-res > res > drawable-mdpi
and if you wanted to change your wifi meter to match your battery meter, like i do, the path is system > app > SystemUI.apk > res > drawable-mdpi
metamorph filepath would be SystemUI > res > drawable-mdpi
iirc its in drawable-mdpi
Edit: oops didnt see the last reply.

Once you rezip the framework-res.apk, you can use adb to replace it as well.
adb devices
adb remount
adb push c:\location of apk file /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
That will allow you to change the images without recovery. though I think nearly everyone has recovery now anyhow.
Also note, you want to replace the images into the framework-res.apk file without extracting it. open it with winrar or 7zip, navigate to the drawable-mdpi folder, drop images in and click ok on adding/altering the file. Then push it back.
Ok I finally got the icons replaced after tinkering and trying the suggested methods. Thanks for all of the input and direction. This is my Android battery. Pretty basic, but something I thought might look cool.

Ninjamorph has really been hit or miss with me. I have always used ninjamorph and metamorph before that with high rates of success. On the NT, it seems like it will work sometimes, and other times it does nothing. I noticed it mostly with the menu.background.png trying to alleviate the white on white issue. I replaced the image at least 20 times and it did nothing. Finally I just gave up on it and pushed the new .apk with adb and it was done.

heres an example on how to edit the files in framework-res.apk.
what i did was extract the Battery.png's into a folder, then i edit them in paint, then i use photoshop to make the background transparent because paint saves them with a white background. im doing em 1 by one. its very time consuming. once i am done editing them, i will move them back into framework-res.apk (Hopefully overwriting the other files of the same name).. then from there, im still looking on how to create a flashable zip.
NOTE: i always save them with the same name as when they were extracted from framework-res.apk
