I know it's a bit early to be putting this out there but as soon as someone gets their hands on the needed resources it would be nice to have available some of the kernel modules. I think tun.ko is probably going to be the most popular since the phone has already been rooted and a VPN solution seems to always be in demand.
UPDATE: After the latest VPNC update the Atrix tun.ko that I had tried before is working.
Here is the link to the tun.ko that I have working. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013513&highlight=tun.ko
I can probably make you one. There is a good chance you can use the Atrix's, but you really need to demand source code from Motorola for the Photon.
It won't load the Atrix tun.ko :-(

OK I lied. The tun.ko from the Atrix is working for me after I updated VPNC. Before VPNC wouldn't recognize root and now with it updated and the tun.ko in place it's working. I'm connected into my work network and using Rove Mobile Admin once again. Life is good!

Hey flash_c4, would you mind pasting a link to the exact tun.ko working for you? Thanks!
Could you post the link to the Atrix tun.ko you used? I see two different threads for it and I'm not sure which one to try.

Thanks. I was able to get the VPNC widget working as well as get-a-robot-vpnc. Took forever to figure out how to get a cisco vpn set up. Oy.
I also figured out how to fix the issue requiring you to use FQDN's (need to type machinename.domain.com instead of just machinename) over the VPN. It looks like (at least with VPNC widget) the vpnc-script sets net.dns1/2, but it doesn't set net.dns.search. You need to modify the vpnc-script in the /data/data directory for VPNC widget. If anyone else was having this problem and wants more detailed instructions on how to fix it, let me know and I can write it up.
So what are the benefits of running this?

Better VPN support than the built-in one in Blur/Android.

Since I use Rove Mobile Admin pretty much exclusively I usually don't have to type out addresses but for someone who plans on using RDP sessions or something else it would be handy to have the information. I'm surprised the developer of VPNC hasn't ever made this change.

Im rooted now im wondering whats the best app to get for tethering?
I want to usb tether and wifi teather ....any ideas?
thanx
use the google one
current stable release is 2.06 i think
I use Barnacle, nice and easy
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Well if you are interested in tethering with a lapdock (as I am with unlimited) Barnacle works flawless after associating. The wifi tether required I change the network proxy to default before it passed validating. But I got it off the market so the beta pre 3.0 may work better. Market version also didn't allow some controls.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I use a combo of Barnacle + Mobile Hotspot.
What do you guys use for a wired tether?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I use PDAnet if I need to tether via USB. But I rarely have to.
There is also a wired tether app. I found it with a Google search. Its just like wireless tether except wired. I can't attach it from the app here but its out there.

Are you rooted and enabled third party apps? Have to be rooted to use wifi tether and need to enable third party apps when you root to be able to install the file
Hey thanks for replying, I've only been using android for about a few months now, used to be a windows mobile fan, dislike it. Switching over to this, not sure what exactly that is, am a techno dude, if there are some steps maybe you could guide me, appreciate it. thanks.

Might want to do a little reading on what all rooting is before you do it. But basically it gives you more control over the phone. Once rooted and allow third party apps you should be able to download wifi tether and install it.
Thanks for the article. completed, also followed the sticky for rooting on here. ATT=money maker company, can't believe we can't install non market apps right out of the box.
Install COREDROID gingerbread Sense2.1 Rom (ONLY rom I've been using so far that works on Glacier....I've tried a few that I had Nandroids of)
http://android-maisters.thedevboard.com/t31-portrommt4g_coredroid_desire_s_233_v01released
Visit the Android market, find Netflix, then send it to your phone, installs over any leaked versions you may have had...viola, works perfectly
seems we've confirmed that if you're running Coredroid ROM above, you will be able to install Netflix and view everything perfectly from several users who have tried..no prop editing, no white screen, no problems with no video, etc
Not to mention, it's one of the best ROM's for the Glacier (minus the annoying video recording not working bug)

It might work for CM7.0.3
But I don't have fast enough speeds right now to check.
I'll try over wifi when I get home.
When I loaded it it loads my account, I can search, but movies would cut out while streaming. It could just be my bad data speeds right now.

I couldn't find it either. Market kept showing it as an incompatible device in the Android Market online. I suppose it is suppose to say Atrix instead of MB860??
Doesn't matter...I was able to get the apk from the Development forum.

I stupidly unrooted and updated my GSII to official ICS update and lost the ability to use wifi tethering. Am I now gonna have to wait for someone to come along and create a rom for the new release that will allow a bypass of the tethering check or are there a couple simple lines in a file somewhere I can change.
Thanks for any info...as it stands, im now stuck working instead of watching netflix on my tethered GTab 10.1
UPDATE: I did some searching around and found that by deleting TetheringManager2.apk in system/app it should allow tethering to go through (I used Root Explorer to do it). Unfortunately, that doesnt seem to work. When I go to enable wifi tethering, the screen goes blank, everything stops responding for about 10 seconds and then it comes back saying settings has stopped responding. So...did I do it wrong or does it look like ATT changed something around with their ICS release?

This is a great wifi app, but you need to be rooted to use it.
wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14
I purchased Kyocera Rise during blackfriday sale (switching from LG Optimus V to Kyocera Rise). After playing on it for awhile, I wanted to use it as a wifi hotspot so I downloaded quicksetting app but wifi hotspot setting didn't work. My Rise is rooted and using stock ROM. I was be able to use my LG Optimus V (rooted and IHO rom) as a wifi hotspot this way but it isn't working for my Rise. Thank you in advance.
Wifi tether for root users on the market that's the one I use but you might have to play with the settings for it to work but it works on mine hope I helped

Thanks, for this post! I have read that the phone doesn't come with google play or that it is a limited version of apps?? Is that true?
If I get this I will root it. How do you like the phone so far?

I'm not sure of all the damage I've done but if you could at least give me a download/link, for Contacts.apk, Dialer.apk, Mms.apk

That sucks i have never had that phone but no its not true, lol this phone has everything you need to have a full android device even ics. But I like it its strong so far lol trust me its been droped alot already and all we have is root no cwm recovery but does have a stock one, and no bootloader but other then the side keyboard and you cant beat $80 bucks right I like it haven't had a lot of FC. p.s sense I forgot to say before lol that the phone does every now and then drain battery if you use it a lot and for some reason my wifi will turn on by its self sense I actual got minutes for it

Step 1 root your phone
Step 2 download blackmart from google
Step 3 download lucky patcher from blackmart or the internet(app icon is a yellow happy face)
Step 4 download svtp wifi hotspot from blackmart(get the paid version..all apps are free from blackmart)
Step 5 install it and open lucky patcher and find the svtp app.
Step 6 hold over it and tap remove liscence verification(just use auto modes)
Step 7 when it finishes just use the svtp app and it should work..
It worked for me and I have kyocera rise through virgin mobile
If you don't know how to root than google it! You don't even need a computer for this model
