[Q] Is this Phone Trashed? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone had stock ED05 from an OTA update.
Here's what happened:
I wanted to root the phone so I Heimdalled CWM recovery. Forgot to load su, and new kernel to SD card so I lost CWM on reboot.
Copied su to SD card and re-Heimdalled CWM recovery and successfully flashed su. Realized that I did not have a new kernel and ROM that I wanted to flash on SD card. Lost CWM on re-boot.
Copied all the files that I wanted to flas to the SD card and this is where the problems begin. Flashing recovery failed in both Heimdall and Odin. Tried Odin and Heimdall to load full DL09 and ED05, but both failed. Tried Heimdall in both Linux and WinXP too.
When power is applied to the phone all I get is the screen in the attached photo.
Anyone know how I can fix this phone?
Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I don't know what version of odin you're using but I use 1.7..anyways, pull your battery...hold the down volume button and plug your stock samsung cable into your pc...you should enter download mode (a little construction android with a big yellow triangle) flash in the
PDA only section
Heres a link with better detailed instructions

Not sure why this worked, but this is how I fixed the phone.
From a Windows 7 machine I Odined (V.1.83) the ED05 package that pentafive posted in this thread: [ROM][ODIN][FACTORY][ED05] VzW full factory froyo restore with radio and kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178544)
The trick was using a Windows 7 machine. Heimdall of the same package from Linux (Fedora 14) failed. Odin and Heimdall of the same package from an XP machine also failed.
After I Odined the stock system and CWM, I flashed the Powerwashed ROM. Phone and owner (my mom) are now happy.
The strange thing is that I have successfully rooted, CWM, and ROMed, 4 or 5 other phones from my Fedora box with no problems. Actually, I have Heimdalled packages to my phone at least a dozen times with no problem. My mom's phone is the only one to give me this much trouble.

Just realized that on my Linux/XP machine I used a USB extension cable while on the Windows 7 machine I plugged the stock cable directly I into the computers USB port. That may have been part of the problem, but it is curious that only 1 of about 5 phones was failed to work properly.
Since the problem phone is a 2.5 hour drive away I won't get a chance to test this theory out any time in the near future.

Has anyone ever actually seen a completely bricked Fascinate?

My friend tried to install something on his own and it went really ugly. His phone is stuck on Samsung screen and it's not doing anything. I'm trying to help him recover his phone using odin. His phone already has CWM recovery flashed but no nandroid(<~what an idiot!). I made sure all files on the picture are odin flashable.

1. Download mode to odin flash these files
PDA_JI6modem<~no pit file required, (stock kernel, T959UVJI6)<~ with pit file.
2. Manually open recovery, and I'm assuming it's going to be purple for factory recovery
-> push wipe data / factory reset.
Am I doing this correctly?
For fascinate, there was a odin flashable stock recovery tar file. Where is one for vibrant? Does vibrant require this?
Well......anyone?
There is a thread in the android development section that had the original JFD PDA file and pit file that will restore the phone back to stock. I had the same exact problem and using those files and following the directions I was back in working order in 10-15 minutes. Look in the Vibrant reference bible thread and if I remember correctly the thread was started by justanothercrowd. I hope that helps, good luck!

Cyanogen 9 suddenly died - brick

I have had Cyanogen 9 running fine for a few months. About 2 weeks ago I changed the modem, but I don't think that should be the cause of my current problem (but I could always be wrong).
Out of nowhere, apps suddenly started crashing. Everything I was using gave me a crash message. Dogcatcher and Facebook, in particular. I rebooted and the phone did not get past the Cyanogen boot screen.
I've tried to re-rom it, but CWM Recovery seems to be gone too. It goes straight into download mode. I tried to flash 6.0.1.2 with Odin but nothing changes. It still puts me into download mode.
Edit: Just found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458&highlight=unbrick
I'll play with that for a minute here. Fingers crossed.
In future......

Also, your device is not "bricked". Just go into download mode, flash Siyah v4 kernel, reboot into recovery and then flash rom, done!
Yes yes, I did a fair bit of searching before posting. It just so happened that very soon after posting, my searches actually turned up something! lol
Trying Siyah. Brb...
Edit: Odin does not seem to like .zip files. I'm using Odin 3.07. Do I have to change it to .tar?
More edit: OMG, nothing I'm trying is working. This is really bad timing. I need this phone RIGHT NOW. I'm sorry for being a noob, but I desperately need help.
Still editing: Ok, I've worked out that there's a difference between a CWM .zip package and a .tar Odin package. I've got Siyah 5 installed now. I just need to find a way to get the rom onto the sdcard so I can flash Cyanogen 10 (since 9 apparently doesn't work with this kernel). Normally this would be easy, but I'm traveling at the moment and don't have all my gadgets and adapters with me.
WiFi ? Lots of apps on Google Play enable WiFi transfer (from a PC or whatever). If you "don't have all your gadgets" & no access to a PC of some description with WiFi (or a card reader even), you're not fixing it.
Edit - Or...(I forgot the bleeding obvious). Download the file(s) you need directly to the phone from CM's site/whatever using WiFi somewhere (hotel/net cafe/elsewhere); will be infinitely cheaper than using a carrier's network (unless you're using your home carrier or have a good data allowance cheap data. If you're roaming this could be expensive).

[Q] Device ROM/Soft Bricked problem! Help!

I've spent some time researching how to root my phone for quite awhile now because there was almost no guide for my phone to be rooted. I have a Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G (Model SCH-R820) connected to MetroPCS with a 16 GB external SD card inserted. Also it had Android 2.3.6 installed on it. With some hard research I finally found a forum that I followed to root my device.
The forum actually did help to root my phone which I couldn't believe. I installed the .apk file with File Explorer and installed Framaroot, then I opened the app and I rooted with SuperSU as instructed in the forum. The whole process was successful and I downloaded a app to determined if my phone was really rooted which later said positive that my phone was rooted. After less than 2 hours of my phone being rooted and having fun with it, I saw thing about custom roms and I liked the ideas of installing a custom rom. I installed a app called "Rom Manger" and it said I needed ClockWorkMod Recovery or ClockWorkMod to be installed to be able to get the custom rom. My device was NOT supported and taped the unsupported device selection and it prompt me to say if I had ClockWorkMod Recovery MANUALLY installed. I didn't know what that mean't and selected "YES" which I would regret later on. I then selected "Backup Current ROM" and it restarted my phone but I don't know where if the backup was place on my internal memory or SD card (I THINK IT DID NOT DO A BACKUP). I went onto my computer to get a custom ROM and tried to install it into my phone using Odin v1.87 when my phone was i guess in "download" mode. (When you hold a few buttons and it prompts you about a warning on installing custom OS).
Just when I saw it fail to install, I realized that I installed the WRONG ROM to my device! (THE CUSTOM ROM WAS FOR A DIFFERENT DEVICE). :crying: When I restarted my phone it was stuck on the Samsung Boot Screen and it would not boot the Android OS and would get stuck on the Boot Screen whenever I would restart my phone. I tried Wiping Cache, Wiping Data/Factory Reset, and Rebooting my device and the same problem would persist. Also the app "Rom Manger" didn't seem to install ClockWorkMod Recovery because I'm only able to do Stock Android System Recovery and "Download" mode to my device.
The thing I think I can do is get a stock ROM for my Samsung Device and reflash it with Odin but whenever I research the ROM for my device I can't seem to find one EVEN on this site. (TRUST ME I DID LONG RESEARCH TO FIND ONE). My brother has the SAME EXACT PHONE and I was hoping if I rooted my bro's phone and do a backup on my bro's ROM with a different app (NOT ROM MANGER) and get the back up on my computer and use it on Odin to reflash MY PHONE'S ROM would it fix my BootLooped/Softed Bricked phone?????OR any ideas on how to get my phone back working OR do I need to buy a new phone if all possible solution fails?
One more thing...I think ClockWorkMod is NOT Safe for my device so if I really need to install it on either phones please tell! :good:
This is how it looks when in download mode (Sorry For The Huge Picture):

I did the same thing. try sending it into metro pcs they told me they would flash the original on there. they wouldn't do it for me though cuz i cancelled my service with them and got t-mobile with a galaxy s3.

Hi guys. First post to the forum, been lurking for years, just registered.
I recently updated my phone with the update that Samsung kept bothering me about every 2 hours or so. And It has messed my phone up, it's slow, it drags. It doesn't even show the clock on my lock screen without thinking about it for about 10 seconds. Train wreck.
I've rooted, installed custom recovery, and loaded custom roms on my Galaxy S i9000 and on my grouper Nexus 7. I kinda get how all this works, I'm not a total newb, but with this phone I am at a dead end and i've tried everything I know, and a bunch more tricks I learned here and nothing is working.
My Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3: Canadian (Bell) version SGH-I747M, supposedly the same as the S3 AT&T,

I had to use zadig to replace my drivers for Heimdall
Heimdall will sucessfully flash clockwork recovery, but it refuses to install my CM rom. I haven't tried any other roms, but from what I've read in the forum here, it doesn't seem to matter what rom you use, it just wont do it.
I get Assert, bootloader errors when trying to install from zip in Clockwork Recovery. tried the fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41503727
and it does not work. Odin just says "FAILED" right away.
I thought maybe if I just rooted the phone first, I could at least flash a custom recovery and not have it over written everytime I boot.
I tried CF-AutoRoot, Odin says success, but nothing changes on my phone.
I tried OneClickRoot which worked wonders on my GS i9000 back in the day. No success.
I have tried CM Installer to do it automated, It says success, but no change.
People have reported that Knox may be the problem, but as far as I can tell I don't have it on my phone.
I've been working on this for a day and a half and all I've managed to do is factory reset my phone about 12 times. I need help.. I don't know what to do. Has anybody managed to root their phone or install a custom recovery or rom with a GS3 running 4.4?

Please Help phone might be dead???

Hello Guys,
This evening I decided to root my phone and install Jelly Beans ROM for Samsung Verizon Galaxy S4, I began by rooting my phone using Towelroot, everything was great so far. Then I tried to install a CWm Recovery but I failed doing that, I followed a youtube video but I kept getting "loki aboot version does not match device".
I read somewhere else that I could use Safestrap as recovery, I followed all the instructions installed busybox etc...
I finally went into recovery mode and Installed Jely Beans V7. The installer ran fine and I followed all the options the installation finished and it was time to reboot, I hit reboot and the phone never came back.
All I see now is a Samsung boot screen with an unlocked padlock in the bottom, the phone keeps rebooting and I had a hard time getting into recovery, when I finally did it seems like a different recovery and only gives me the options to apply updates and to wipe data.
The android robot is dead with a red triangle.
Please help what can I do???
I take it you missed the part that you can only flash non-touchwiz roms & cwm on phones with an mdk bootloader?
Plenty of threads on here on how to fix this, I'm on my phone otherwise I'd post links
