[Q] How to restore desktop settings after factory reset - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
maybe a noob question, but I hope you can answer it :
I have backed up my device with Titanium Backup (both applications and system) and reset to factory defaults. I have already restored applications, worked fine. But how can I restore only desktop (homescreen) settings with all the folders, icons, their positions etc.?
I have already tried to restore all files (apps and system) and it restored the homescreen almost perfectly. But there are some reasons/issues, why I cannot do it that way now.
Thank you for your help.

I would suggest just putting them back in a random order-it will keep things exciting when you use your phone

You should have backed up APPS+User Data. Only this way it will restore the positions on the home screen.

I have.
I have already solved it. But it is not in the APPS or APPs User Data. I had to restore only TWlauncher and its Data.
Anyway thank you.

I have the same request but there is no TWlauncher backed up - wonder what that is... there are numerous other system apps+data backed up in Titanium backup... I'd like to restore home screen settins and all other sense settings. apps+data are fine already

If you are talking about HTC sense you are in the wrong forum, TWlauncher is touchwizz launcher, the stock launcher used by samsung touchwizz on in this case, the samsung galaxy s2 i9100.
Go find the right forum and ask there

Put filter on sys apps and search for launcher, you could find TouchWiz Home ....... , then restore data only.
I did this on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Sanmsung stock ROM.

[Q] Titanium Restore

Hello,
After changing Rom from X to Y. Do I restore all user apps+system data? only user apps?
Please clarify.
Thanks
Oren
Do not restore system data if changing firmware .

Titanium Restore
So how do I restore the settings? My desktop, all the configurations?
What exactly should I restore?
It's never a good idea to restore apps AND DATA, just apps, if you also restore data you will likely get FC's particulary if your moving to a new ROM or new formware.

ok i have a question for you..when i go to restore apps through TB i always do the first one..restoring missing apps with data....is that good or bad? and didnt TB had an option were you could only restore apps with out the data? or im i being mistaken
Restore "apps with data" isn't the same as "system data," AFAIK.
I've always restored apps with data without incident.
I always restore apps with data but never system data just to be sure. I use Go launcher EX and all my desktops end up exactly as they were (exept for some widgets, but that's unimportant). The only thing i have to do is reconfigure some of the settings, basic things like ringtone, disable haptic feedback, etc...

titanium backup problem

I restored my phone with TB. All applications came back, but no data or system settings- no SMS, all desktops have no icons or widgets, etc...
Is there any way to get it back?
I have an older nandroid backup, which I hope would have almost everything, but I'd prefer to get my settings back without it.
What option did you use to restore? You should do the full system data + apps unless your using the exact same rom. And if you just restore apps and not system data there are some files that you can restore to get your sms back. I don't remember their name but they are green colored when you scroll through what got backed up. Titanium should be able to restore the apps data like saved games and such.
I upgraded Clean ROM from 2.5 to 2.7 wiping only cache. 2.78 was slow, sometimes it would take 5 seconds just to change orientation. So I decided to wipe cache and data to see if it helps. It did, but at a price
When backing up and restoring I used "apps+data" option, the most complete I could find. And all my apps restored fine, but all call logs and SMS were gone, as well as login credentials for market apps, bookmarks in audiobooks and web browser, wallpaper, desktop theme, icons, widgets, you name it.

Did you Reboot after you did the TB Restore?
Try restoring your apps first then reboot. Then open up tb and then choose the batch option and then restore all the data. Maybe that might help "might"
Locked & Loaded
""Shooter on Deck""
Thanks, guys. I ran into additional problems because I overfilled the SD card, but it looks like rebooting put me on the right path.

[Q] Storing app settings in a ROM image

Sorry if this is the wrong section. Mods please move it is.
How can I store, for example, home screen settings in a rom image, so that every time a phone is factory reset, the home screens will be laid out the way I want?
cheers.
You can simply make a backup of your home with applications such as Titanium

Make you a drop box account and have Titanium backup save to it to. I have lost my backup on factory wipes before and drop box was a life saver.
I am aware of the backup options but this is for a device that is going to be distributed to a large number of people. If these people do a factory reset then they need to be presented with the preconfigured default homescreen.
They won't have root access so I can't tell them to reset then perform a restore.
Anyone?

I'm trying too. Any solution yet?
As of what i know you can user Titanium Backup to restore setting with the update.zip feature but i dont know if more personal setting are being restored too. In some .properties file there is my gmail i guess for integration with playstore. If i delete this (or any other) entry will the restore work? Is it safe/good method to integrate something like that in my rom?
Also there is ZIPme that restore the whole datal/data/{app} but doesnt seem to work.
Thanks in advance for help!

restore touchwiz settings after wipe

Hi all, I just want to ask if there's a way to restore touchwiz settings (icons and widgets positions, home and lockscreen backgrounds,... ) after a full wipe.
Thank you
Zio
using Titanium Backup
Hmm... You're right... I'm not used to restore touchwiz. I always use titanium but never thought that the function to restore missing apps wouldn't restore touchwiz cause it's already there when I install a new rom... Stupid me!
Thanks

I would be careful in restoring TouchWiz as it is a system app isn't it? Could end up in FCs, but please correct me if I am wrong.
Otherwise you could use for instance Apex or Nova, they both got functions to save the settings & desktop.

Why would it? As long as the version is the same, you're good. And you can restore data only
Alternative method .
Nandroid backup .
Flash new rom .
Restore DATA only from advanced Nandroid backup .
As with a TB restore not everything is guaranteed on new firmware . But i have used this method on every SGS3 firmware with no problem .

hello,
on a rom where touchwiz is not installed (pandoriam 4.1.2), would you advise to (or not) restore an app (touchwizz, for example...) from a backup (titanium) from a stock 4.1.1 rom ?
I guess not, but just in case... (or : is it doable to find the 4.1.2 version of apk in the rom's archive and install it from scratch, not reflashing full rom ?)
Touchwiz and Titanium Backup
Using Titanium Backup DOESN'T restore icon positions.

I do need to amend this and say some launchers will play friendly with Titanium's backup restore feature.. For example, when I use "Next" launcher, Titanium backup will restore the positions of the icons. I Believe it all depends upon the launcher, not necessarily the ROM.

No it doesnt because restoring any system data is not really supported in any way shape or form.
This is one of the things you get used to flashing custom roms.

Only restoring a Nandroid data backup on I9300 does that 100%.

Is there an application that can save app position inside the app drawer, after reset?

When i hard reset my device or install new ROM etc. i arrange my applications inside app drawer in a specific position .. So is tough for me to rearrange the way i want it every time...
Don't answer to me about launchers etc..
I prefer stock rom and no launcher. thx

Titanium Backup can do that. Root is needed. Backup TouchWiz launcher apk and only restore data (not apk and data). The workspace files are similar in most versions of TouchWiz I haven't had issues but you need to also clear data first and a reboot may be needed after restore. Definitely need for application widgets.

Are you sure? Titannium backup can restore apps..but i don't want to restore apps, what i want is my apps to be exactly in the same order in app drawer.. and believe me i have a strange way that suites to me. I don't need them by type or name etc...
Yes if you do as I said, backup TouchWiz or the launcher you use and only restore data between flashing (not apk+data). I wouldn't have posted if I wasn't sure. I use the same method
