Hi, I bought an imported SGSII and have been using it in Mexico with Iusacell (AFAIK, only Mexican carrier with HSPA+).
I've been experiencing problems while trying to make calls (it just doesn't connect until second or third attempt). And some calls are not received at all.
I've tried the latest KG6 modem and KF2, deactivating Fast Dormancy and flashing different Kernels but the result is the same.
I don´t know if my carrier is to blame (have had issues before) or if I have a faulty device.
Hope someone can help me.
Thanks.
Hi, I have the same problem as you.
Some sort of solution (at least a partial one) was to update the firmware to kg5 found on the forums.
This has kind of fix the dropped call rate for me.
I'll be trying later to change the csc for the telcel one and let you what happens.
Cheers
i have the same problem, anyone can share your configuration?
i disable voicemail and improve my calls, im trying modem nekd5.
how about yours?
saludos
I'm currently using the stock version of xxki3 posted by intratech.
Fast dormancy is disabled and my network is set to wcdma only
New Findings
Now I'm using intratech's XXKI4, with a brazilian modem from UHKI1 and XEU csc.
So far so good, also you might be having trouble if you are using an european modem because it doesn't have the 850 mhz frequency enabled by default (which is an american standard).
You can easily enable this frequency by following this thread: http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-enable-850mhz-on-any-modem.3334/
Hope that this helps

How's XXKI4 doing? (stability, dropped calls, etc).
(I'm about done having dropped calls and I'm about to flash a new rom out of desperation)

Hi Ocmvteam, i have XXKI4 with e_0234 mod and fix my droped calls issue, try and let us know if is working for you.
Can you provide a link to the mod you mention?
Thanks, maybe I'll take the plunge this weekend.

Have you used swype? I'm hesitant on flashing XXKI4 because of the CSC, don't know if it has to do with the keyboard our only with the carrier settings.
I'm on telcel, so it's not exactly the same as you, but maybe not so different
Any recommendations?

Have you tried to change the PRL version from your device?
I have tried the 370,320,330 (looking for the 3G connection on my r800x, without success), and with the 370 the calls last only 3 or 4 minutes.
By now the 330 has been the most stable for me.
How do you go and change de PRL version?
Upgraded ROM
Just wanted to share that yesterday I finally decided and flashed (frankestein) ROM KWKJ3 with telcel CSC.
I did have to do a factory reset to getting it to work and reinstall all my apps.
On the good side, I finally got to install Google Talk (it isn't available on Telcel stock ROM) and Google Search (instead of tel****'s "search" portal)!
You'll also need to activate de 850mhz band but that's very easy following the instructions.
Everything is working ok!
Easier way to set the band to american standards
Guys I've been messing around with my phone to find the best way to set the bands to 850/1900.
Just dial *#*#4636#*#* > Select "Phone Information" (the top menu), press the menu button, select "select radio band" and choose "USA Band".
That's it... It really improved my calls and downloading speeds, give it a try and let me know how did it go for you

So I bought my X10a on Ebay which is branded Rogers from Canada. I have AT&T in the U.S. The phone was sold as "Unlocked" and it worked simply by putting in my, but my 3G isnt working, which leads me to believe I need to switch to an American firmware to get 3G working. I understand how to flash my phone, but which firmware should I use for the best performance? I have heard around here that the U.S. AT&T firmware dramatically slows down the performance. Is there a "Generic U.S. firmware" that I should use? Should I use the Global Generic Firmware that everybody else seems to be using? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just enter your APN settings manually (see below). Or you can flash the X10a 2.1 world generic from here (you still have to enter the APN settings manually as below)
Go to Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks-> Access Point Names
Add a new APN. Don’t forget to Save the new APN by pressing the “more” button! Once you do this, you must select the newly created Internet APN.
Lastly, make sure there are no extra spaces after entering any of these values, else your 3G won’t work.

Note: If you flash to generic FW you will see an "H" rather than the "3G" icon in the task bar. This is normal as H stands for HSPA which you can consider as 3.5G (or what in the U.S. they falsely advertise as 4G)
1st of all, thanks for your help! Above my reception thingy, my receptometer thing says "H". I thought HSPA was 2G! Should I just flash to the World Generic firmware and call it a day?

The global firmware 1420-4820 here works great. You'll unbrand your phone so you won't be blocked by ATT from non market apps. However, I have found that 1234-4836 global generic Brazil is a better match for ATT. It gives you google voice search that the firmware here doesnt. There is some agruememt that you can download that app from the Market, but I couldn't because it is only available for Froyo 2.2 in USA and we have 2.1.
I couldn't find the generic Brazil firmware here, so I flashed the generic global from xda, and then rebranded from 1234-4820 to 1234-4836. I put a thread on how to do it in the general section of this Xperia X10 forum. I'd provide a link to it here but I'm on my phone. It's titled "x10a Big Differences in global generic firmware..... "
You'll be happy with the generic global, but voice search is my favorite new app. It searches internally contacts, apps, mms, and externally web, market etc.
Hope this helps.

Did you flash 2.1 global generic first? Voice search wont work if you still are running 1.6 Rogers.
I used the voice search 2.1 app link Batman kindly provided last night to update my voice search 1.4 that came with 1234-4836 generic Brazil, so you should be able to use it on 1234-4820 flash that Batman pointed to in his post " here ", and skip the rebranding part altogether.
If you can't get the voice search 2.1 apk download to work, then try rebranding. You'll need Root Explorer from the market, which isn't free anymore. :-( Or a root explorer that gives you write permissions R/W. Long press on build.prop file in /system and open in text editor and change all (3) 1234-4820 to 1234-4836, save and close. Do the same in the default.prop file. Then repair software with PC Companion or SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service)

X10a is Americas and X10i is international. X10i 2.0.2.0.A.0.24 has the newest update, but there isn't enough difference in the update for me to change to. They should be updating X10a soon as well soon, and I prefer mine to be X10a because my phone is under warranty. My X10a is smooth and fast and i don't have any of the problems with the Market, network connection, battery drain, or random rebooting that I have read others with X10i have. Also Quadrant score on my X10a 2.0.2.A.0.504 is 815 and Linpack is 35 with JIT and bloatware removed (timescape, backup & restore, Okrut, Moxier, Play Now, etc.). Which is just as good or better than what updated X10i with JIT and no bloatware is reporting. If ATT does ever update, possibly Froyo or Gingerbread, it will be X10a. However, there does seem to be more support for X10i on xda, so it's a personal decision.

I'm a failure I cant figure out how to run the flash tool correctly. I was tryin to use X10Flash from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827065
Heres what I did: I downloaded x10Flash 2.1.zip and when I opened it, I couldnt figure out how to run it. The directions say "Just add a new folder to the MAIN FOLDER of Flashtool which contains the firmware." But I dont see any folder that has any firmware. If I knew how to post a picture on here, I would, but here's the files and folders that are listed:
x10flasher_lib
Newest
custom
x10flasher.jar
x10flash.bat
USBflash.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
AdbWinApi.dll
adb.exe
If I click on adb.exe, the folder extracts then a MS-DOS window pops up for a millisecond and says "The system cannot find the path specified." Theres no folder that says "Flash" or "Firmware". If anyone could tell me which file path follow so I can get this flasher working, that'd be way awesome!
Ok, so i read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825201 and decided that I needed to make a new folder, download the x10a Generic firmware, and put it in my newly created folder... so now what? I'm running Windows 7 if that means anything.
Here's another question: am I supposed to be running this program from my phone and not my computer?
Do I need to flash my phone if it has already been rooted, in order to install custom roms?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am not very good at this stuff as I am just learning.

Hi! Are baseband frequencies hardware determined? I mean, I'd like to flash a new modem on mi SGA so I can get the 3G to work cuz the carriers basebands here are different than where I bought the phone... Is that possible to do by flashing a new modem or em' I just stuck with 2G connectivity only? Would really appreciate facts and not just suppositions on the response! Thanks in advance, cheers.-
PS.: I've posted this cause I've already tried flashing several modems and couldn't get any positive result!
There's no such thing as "broadband frequencies" as far as i know. And,having another modem would not do anything to your phone.Myself,I have a European modem and i have been to 2 countries with it,no problem, just as an examppe

The basebands are just software .
What you're facing is a hardware problem .
I'm sorry , but you're going to have 2G only unless you get a phone that supports those frequencies or migrate overseas

There are GSM,CDMA,UMTS frequencies, stock firmware is pre-configurated to one of those depending on your region(for expample Asia uses CDMA), however if your on CM u can change them.
If your using stock then only use firmware form your region when you have cell problems.
CyanogenMod 7 lets you be able to change between GSM and UMTS(called WCDMA in settings) in network preferences
CyanogenMod 9 ets you be able to change between GSM, UMTS, and CDMA in network preferences.
However some stock firmwares (Asia's and India's) allow you to change these settings as well.
have u tried the method in this thread yet..? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289830
Last night I decided to update my firmware and went for Omega 17, it's Android 4.1.2 and comes with modem XXLS6. My phone can't register on the network since! When starting it asks for the PIN and upon providing it, it asks for a SIM unlock code that I don't have. I have tried Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock from Play store but it can't find the unlock code.
The problem is that I can't remember my last modem that worked; could someone please point me towards a good working modem for I9100 on Romania's Cosmote network using Android 4.1.2?
it doesnt seem like its modem related, what you're talking about makes it sound like you have carrier locked your phone.
Did you buy it from Romania Cosmote and using it on the same network or are you on another provider?

I bought the phone 2 years ago without contract, it was unlocked until last night! It has worked with various operators, now it only works with Orange! I'm guessing the XXLS6 packed with Omega 17 is locked with Orange. Is there any way around this?
If not, I'd rather switch back to M1UI but I also need to flash a new modem for that too since LS6 won't cut it there either.
Maybe you're right and this isn't modem related but something makes my phone work only on Orange. What might that be and how to make it work with different operators?
Have you flashed other ends or mainly been using MIUI? Did you buy it like that?
You should try loading your backup of MIUI to see if it is locked to Orange. If not try Omega again or maybe even another lsj rom...best bet is to narrow down the issue.
When I used miui I used ki4 modem

Dude, you don't need to do any of the above. It's a known problem with the leak (and any rom based on it). Search for an app called GalaxSim Unlock (free here on xda). It'll sort it out for you.

First off thanks to xda, you guys are awesome.
I have a 5830M purchased factory unlocked here in Costa Rica. I recently decided to have a go at a custom ROM and have now come out the otherside without 3g working.
My question is: Is it possible to brick some part of the radio so that 3g doesn't work but voice and sms do?
I have tried seemingly every modem under the moon, various roms, the australia open stock rom from the thread below, and CWM restore of my system from before all this. Currently I have the latest pda/phone/csc for my carrier (ICE/kolbi) from sammobile flashed via odin thanks to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840645
I've tried two sims that receive 3g in other devices, but not in the Ace.
When checking *#0011# it just shows GSM: 11 no 3g stuff like I've seen in other photos. See attached. Note that in the second photo it says GSM: 25 but that always soon switches to 11.
The APN settings are always received correctly from the carrier.
I've attached more photos with the output from *#*#4636#*#*.
Ideas? Other info I can provide? Please tell me this is something stupid
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, already tried to burn several CSCs. I do note that the 'Appling multi-csc' message prints out (the first line of it anyways when I enter stock recovery). The whole multi-csc process runs when I flash via odin whether I'm flashing a multi-csc image or not. That has been happening since I flashed the open australian rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840645
Anyone know if that is expected or have I corrupted my stock recovery?
Thanks!

Hi,
Well, I know that this is na old phone, but let's try to fix...
I have a Samsung SGH-T589 (Gravity Smart), originally from T-Mobile, but now unlocked. Since I'm in Brazil, tha 3G connection doesn't work. After some (and for some I mean months) time of research, I figured out that T-Mobile Works on a diferent 3G frequency than brazilian ops. But, I've also figured out that maybe (and just maybe) could be possible fix this by flashing the SGH-T589W (Gravity Smart/Galaxy Q) or SGH-T589R firmware on this phone. There were no problems related until now... but I'm having trouble to find this firmware. Tryied Samfirmware, Sampro, and many others...
Anyone have this file or I should just retire this phone once and forever?
Thanks everyone.

Well, it wouldn't be helped by the t589W because that also uses the weird 1700/2100 AWS bands for 3G service. The R would be the way to go, if it were possible, but even if it did flash successfully, the phone still has a hardware limitation where it just doesn't support other bands, despite what radio/modem you could install.
If you wanna try though, just for the heck of it (at your OWN risk - I do not think this will work. Not likely to hard brick it, but will probably need to restock with the correct firmware if it fails):
http://www.bergfiles.com/i/bf38cacda3hci0#
And you'll want the official firmware flashing Odin version for the phone, because for some reason it doesn't work with the regular Odin ones:

The R would be the way to go, if it were possible, but even if it did flash successfully, the phone still has a hardware limitation where it just doesn't support other bands, despite what radio/modem you could install.
If you wanna try though, just for the heck of it (at your OWN risk - I do not think this will work. Not likely to hard brick it, but will probably need to restock with the correct firmware if it fails):

And you'll want the official firmware flashing Odin version for the phone, because for some reason it doesn't work with the regular Odin ones:

Man... No luck!
My phone only works on EDGE and now I've found why...
This model uses 3G over the 1700/1900 Mhz ... All operators in Brazil works with 3G over 850/2100 Mhz...
So, no luck for me...
Now, I'll try to swap this phone on eBay or something like...
If you know someone who wanna change a phone, please tell me...hehehehe.
Thanks for everything! Now I can sleep in Peace....
