Survey says..... #1 answer is NO.
You need to be running 2.3.2, check for the applicable flashes to downgrade in the sticky threads, and double-check everything first. I believe SuperOneClick includes the GingerBreak method, which works on the GSM versions of 2.3.2. That hole was patched in 2.3.3 (and for 2.3.2 for USA CDMA version on Verizon Wireless).

Maybe if the "noobs" followed the rules, and didnt spam development with stupid questions, they would be able to find the relevent development thread with the answers to there questions and the op isnt a noob, he has made nearly 160 posts he should know the forum rules
When you have subscribed to the Dev forum waiting for something to happen in the dev field (which finally seems to be the case) it is a bit... style-cramping to see this kind of posts, so to say.

Maybe only letting certain people start new threads in development would be an epic idea
Yea I agree with AndroHero this dev section is starting to just fill up with new threads asking questions that should be asked in the general section something needs to be done about it its just cluttering this whole section up

Am I understanding this correctly? I need to post 10 times in General or Q/A before I can post in Development thread?
I don't have any Q/A posts to create other than this and I don't have any general questions.
All I wanted to do was post to a thread that the Kernel is running great and no issues so far.
The only question I have is the following:
Should I post then new posts that are useless to get my count up
or
Post back to this thread I created 10 times?
I am leaning toward the latter but before I do I want to make sure I do not get anyones panties in a bunch. If this is an issue I'll just leave it as is and stick to reading.
If you just wanted to thank the dev who made the kernel, you could always just click the thanks button.

From my understanding of this forum, this isn't like other forums where you would post all questions and comments that are related to development in the development section. Since this is xda-DEVELOPERS they seem to assume that all questions are going to be related to development.
So all regular comments go in the General section, and all Questions go in the Q&A section. I believe they want you to post in the dev section only if you are developing something (a kernal, a rom, a mod like CWM).
If you want to report success on a specific rom or kernel, couldn't you just hit "reply" in the thread for that kernel? That's what I usually do.
Also, this will probably keep you from getting griped at by lots and lots of wannabe moderators (in addition to the real moderators).
Yea I know how u feel I'm on number 4 I think so this will be 5 half way there.

Questions belong in Q&A. Questions/problems on a specific ROM/KERNEL/MOD in the development forum belong in the thread related to what you have the question/problem with, not in a new topic. The development forum is for releases of stuff only, along with discussion in the same thread about said releases.
thanks for the clarification. one of these days i will get my 10 post in to thank all the hard working developers

Same here I was going to post in the developers kernel thread to provide feedback as it was new and they look for feedback.
This rule I can understand for new posts but for replying to existing posts I don't understand other than the fact you get a lot of people that post in wrong places all the time. However this will happen with this rule in place or not as they can reach ten posts pretty quickly.
Either way just found it an odd rule. Some forums do a "you must be a member for X days before you can post". This rule allows new members to do reading before they just start posting all over the joint. That one I understand.

Devs do check out the Q/A and general section too, so you dont have to post in their thread if you have a problem.
One good thing regarding the 10 post is that people wont post a thread with a question in the development section. A lot of people who accidentally post there says that their question has to do with development, and so they decided to post there instead of Q/A or general section. If people with a lot of posts still does this, by accident or not, imagine how much work mods will have to do if anyone can post there and is new to the forum.

First this is the dev forum and your not a dev nor dose your thread lead to anything that is under development or hasn't been developed the hell out of to where its not relevant anymore, second you asked a question >,> there is a Q&A section for I don't know questions and answers <,< last you admit that you found multiple guides in your last bit so.... do tell why is this development with over 400 posts..... Id like to see you come up with a good explanation.....
Are any of you guys mods?? Let the mods do their jobs without adding more useless posts telling the kid how dumb he is

FFS, you could have just answered the dudes question with one post without bumping the thread to the top all day long.
Now, THE ANSWER IS: there is no best way. It either works or it doesn't (either successfully gives your root or doesn't).
Having said that, the most bullet proof way according to people's feedback is the preinstal method, BUT... CWM method and gingerbreak also successfully worked for me both on 2.2.2 and on 2.3.4.
p.s. People on here are right. You only create new threads in Development section if you developed something. You could have just left a post in one of the root threads, or opened a question thread in Q/A forums.
Cheers.

Rooting isn't required to install a custom ROM. Unlocking is.

Hi,
I have been searching the forum for ATT Official 2.3.4 stock ROM. I am new to Android and planning to put in a Custom ROM in my SGS2. But before I do that, I wanted to have the Official ATT 2.3.4 ROM so that in case any issues I can flash that back. Also I did read about keeping the flash counter intact. I primarily want to be prepared before I start with it. Please share if there is a link available.
Thanks
Seriously? The Development forum is only 4 pages long and you're too lazy to even skim thread titles there?
I suggest you go back and read the XDA rules again. Search before posting.

I was looking through the development forum as well and did find out there were some ROMs which were already rooted. I was looking for a unrooted ROM and maybe would have missed when I was looking through. That does not mean I am lazy... I am new here and did ask for help after trying!

Your reactive comment is really uncalled for. People are here to help, and they do not get paid to be here, but some find it a little tiring when people appear to ask questions before they even look for the answer.
I understand that to a new person, sometimes you don't even have a point of reference to know what you are looking for. What you need can be found in the development forum as "Unbrick/return to stock by Entropy512."
Also refer to the sticky topic "Library" in the development section, and the sticky topic "FAQ" in the general section.
Edit: OK I see you removed your reactive comment, so I removed it from the quote also.
My bad..sorry about the reactive comment.
I am a new user to Android and just moved from iPhone. I do appreciate the DEVS work and understand it is an extra responsibility for you.
I had rooted and unlocked my SGS2 but being extra cautious not to brick it when flashing the ROM. I maybe should have read through all the posts irrespective of the title

If we spoonfed every new person that comes here to XDA we wouldn't have enough room for actual development dude. So what you are suggestion is basically ridiculous. I want to come here for development. Not a bunch of links and "how to" posts. Searching is a good thing.

I tried searching, but a lot of times, its confusing on which Rom is actually the stock version which would return everything as before.
I looked at restoring the phone thread and couple of others which also say they are stock rom, hence the confusion.
There is no point in fighting. I got my answer, so its ok if people got mad at me for asking a question. They will forget about it in a couple of hours, and I will try to search a little more next time.
