[Q] Liquid Thunderbread v2.5 - accounts & sync - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know how to add another account on this ROM? right now i have google/market registered to 1 email, but i recently registered on google music under my primary email and i can't access it from my phone.
i'd rather not re-install the ROM and then use my primary email as i have market purchases associated to the other email.

In the settings menu go to accounts and sync and then select the option to add another account. You can add a second Gmail account there.

yeah that's what i'd normally do on a sense ROM, but on this particular one there is no 'accounts and sync' option in settings. tried looking under 'liquid settings' to see if it was possibly moved there but nope.

im running the exact same rom as you and i have it under settings just like normal. you need to reflash the rom

Gmail account removal

I used my gmail account on my wifes evo to download an app from market and it added it to her gmail so now she has access to my email. How can I remove it? When I go to settings to delete it I get an error stating I need to reset the phone to do so. Is there any other way without going to this extreme?

Nope...in order to delete the main gmail account you have to factory reset.
Just go into " account and sync " settings and turn off sync for Gmail on your account.

i did this but my email is still there. Luckily we just got these puppies yesterday so their not fully customized yet.

This is exactly was I was trying to do, i had an iphone before and we shared an apple id to only purchase apps and music once between us.
What about the method where you obtain temp root, go to \data\system and delete the accounts.db file(s)? Anyone tried that?

All ya have to do is add a different gmail account to your phone. Go make a temporary one if you have to. Then go to accounts and sync and choose the email address you want to remove and remove it.

That's true if you just have an extraneous email account on the phone. Won't work if you need to change the default (home) gmail account on the phone: the one the market is linked to. To change that requires some wizardry.
Mike
Hold volume down and then power at the same time. When it kicks on... press volume down to erase data or whatever... should be 3rd or 4th... hit power. Brand new phone.

Yes it will work. Once he deletes the old account from his phone he just has to log into his Gmail account "the one he deleted" from a pc. Then in account settings, remove the Gmail account that has access to his Gmail account. Then just re add his orginal account to his phone sync and he should be good to go.

I think we're talking about two different things. What you are saying will work when two gmail accounts are "cross linked". I thought he was talking about changing the gmail account that is associated with the phone (the one used for the market). To change that, you have to use root wizardry or reset the phone to factory defaults. No way you can change the main gmail account on an Android phone via a PC or any combination of "delete/add" accounts on the phone. The original (as activated) gmail account is "stuck" to an Android phone like glue.

That I agree with. I thought he was referring to his wife having acces to his gmail account. That's why I posted if he logs into his primary account that the phone is linked to and go to account settings he can add or remove access to his account.

Pretty extreme to wipe the entire phone just to change the gmail account, doncha think? Just delete the accounts.db file.

[Q] Backup Contacts to Google Account

I'm an android noob, so please go easy on me. Plus I've searched and haven't found a specific answer to my query.
I want to back up only the contacts on my phone and their details to my google account.
The problem is that whenever I try, all my gmail contacts are synced onto my phone, leaving me with a huge rubbish list of contacts.
Does anyone know how to do a one way upload of contacts into a google account???
Not sure if GS2 works the same way as GS1, but if you just want to back up your contacts, you can export them to a file and manually @ it to yourself.
If you want to sync, then it'll merge them with your google contacts, but then you can edit the view list to only show contacts with numbers, this way it'll hide the @ contacts only.

¿Have you tried the "Merge with Google" option?

Yeah...I havent figured out what this does....all that I can see is that there is now a small g next to all my contacts and if I choose not to display my google contacts, then I have an empty contact list.
EDIT
Anyways I solved the issue
1) Factory Reset Phone.
2) Created brand new Gmail Account.
3) Set this account as my default account and set syn options for contacts and calendar.
4) Contacts-->Settings-->Save new contacts to-->"Google" with the corresponding new email address.
Works like a charm.
Thanks guys for your replies.

Best Way to Hide Contacts?

I am simply trying to hide my Facebook and Linkedin contacts. Here are the steps I've taken with no luck:
Flashed 198_7 sbf (long overdue)
Wiped all data (long overdue)
Synced gmail contacts
Added Facebook and LinkedIn accounts to phone for easy status updates
After all contacts have synced in contacts app, I tapped menu -> display options -> unchecked "all contacts" for both Facebook and LinkedIn
A few FB and Linkedin contacts disappeared but most of them are still being displayed
Any other suggestions?
Not sure if this would help but if they are linked to current contacts on your phone, you can go into each contact hit edit, then the menu button. There should be an option to separate their Facebook and other social media accounts from your existing google contacts.
Also under menu> accounts & sync, you should see your facebook and other accounts and most social media accounts have an option to sync contacts, sycn all or just with ones on your phone or none. Unchecking this box may help.

Also what rom are you using? Stock, blur based, cm7 or cm9? I know that when I first got an android each and playing with different rooms, each contacts menu was a little different as far as the settings go and it may be easier to help know which one you are using.

Latest ics and default contact type

Hey all, on previous os's if i disabled 'phone' from the people app, New contacts would default to my Google type and sync up great!
Now, with the latest ics this still works but it's defaulting to my second Google account, not my primary one. Does anyone have an idea on how to alter this "bug/feature" to default the primary Google account for new contacts?
Even if i UNcheck that secondary account in the people app, it still tries to create the account as the secondary google account.
Yes, it's easy to pick when creating new contacts, but I often forget to set it!

I haven't actually tried any of these ideas, but I think one might help, and they're pretty low risk:
Method 1: Toggle Facebook Sync
In Facebook app, settings, Other Settings, Contacts Sync, change setting from 'Sync all' or 'Sync with Existing Contacts' to 'Remove Facebook Data'
Hit the 'Sync/Done' button at top-right
Check your contacts and verify that photos/links have been removed
Return to FB app, same place, change setting back to 'Sync All' or 'Sync with Existing Contacts'
Method 2: Delete Contacts and Re-sync
If Method 1 doesn't work, try this. This method assumes that your contacts exist only in the cloud (e.g., on gmail, exchange server, etc.) and not locally, and thus can be re-synched easily. IF YOU HAVE ANY LOCAL CONTACTS THIS WILL DELETE THEM.
- Follow steps 1 and 2 above
- Exit the Facebook app
- Go to System Settings-> More -> Application Manager, swipe right until you see 'All'
- Scroll down to Contacts Storage and click on it
- Click on <Clear Data> and <Clear Cache>
- At this point, I'd reboot the device
- After re-boot, your contacts should re-sync from outside sources, (if they don't, go to System Settings-> Accounts and click on the account where your contacts are (e.g., Google) and the account name and it should sync)
- Follow Step 4 in Method 1 above
I found that you have to edit the contacts. If you have them attached to a gmail or outlook account then they default to that picture. I've had to edit a lot of my contacts bc of this.

I use the Sync.ME app. It downloads hi-res Facebook pictures and you can set it to run automatically on a regular basis.
Ubersync in app store works awesomely
Haxsync can solve this as well.

+1 for Ubersync. Works great, except I wish it didn't create an "Ubersync" account in my phone, but other than that, works great.
