About my HTC Hero

Hi guys.
So recently i got my very first touch phone.
I've had a sony ericsson w800i for like 6-7 years now.
So i'm really all new to the entire touchmobile scene and stuff.
Rooting sounds interesting, but i have no idea if i can even do it on my mobile, let alone do it without bricking the phone.
Now i got a lot of questions and rooting does sound interesting.
But i was still hoping people here could maybe guide a new guy in the right direction?
I've read this article : Erhm, can't post links yet it seems. But it was the link to a wiki article about why one should root his phone.
and it sounds very good.
My phone model is: HTC Hero
Firmware: 1.50
Basebandversion: 63.18.55.06EU:6.35.06.18
Kernal system: 2.6.27-8dd6deee
Version: 2.73.405.6 CL#61267 release-keys
softwareversion: 1.0.0.A6288
Can i root my phone?
I'm not bound to any telemarketing company or anything. The phone itself is not from vodafone or anything of likes.
And also, if i do decide to root my phone, would i be able to install the 2.1 sense update thats scheduled for the htc hero something in april(hopefully)?
Best regards
Kuresu
Im also new here, been reading up on Android for a while though.
What i can say for sure is, YES, you can definately root your Hero. There are are number of different guides on here.
And secondly, rooting shouldn't affect you being able to get the 2.1 update once it is available, infact, if you root, youe can try 2.1 roms NOW.
A good place to start is the "XDA-Wiki", there is a link on the brown bar near the top of the page. Once you have clicked that link, on the new page it brings up, go about half way down the page to the HTC section, click "HERO". On that page, under "rooting" there is a link called "Method 1 - Dayzee's NEWBIE Walkthrough guide". That should be all the info you need. I have not done it myself yet, my new Hero should be delivered tomorrow.
Good luck!
Thanks a bunch Ddot.
Have you gotten your phone yet?
Did you root yours?
Theunlockr.com is a great source for rooting etc (newbies are often pointed to that site)

Yep yep yep,... It was delivered last Friday,... I haven't put it down since!!!
Yeah I rooted mine,... Followed this guide,... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253 ...Then installed the latest Modaco Custom ROM.
I decided not to play with the 2.1 ROMs as there were a few bugs reported.
The Modaco ROM is excellent, no complaints about the phone whatsoever. Now patiently waiting for an official 2.1 ROM.
If there's anything else you need to know, ask away, I've learnt a lot this past week, and if I cant help, there are plenty of others ready , willing and able.
P.S,... Apologies for the late reply, I didn't subscribe to the thread so wasn't notified of replies. I'll do it now though.
Peace

I don't believe it can be done!

I am having a hard time believing that anyone here or the other 20,000 forums can actually get 2.1 on the Streak. I am not rookie but not an expert and i know how to search...In fact when searching for 2.1 all the links come up dead.
I have been at almost all the Streak Forums and just about every way has been tried. Modaco, streaksmart, xda, androidforums, ect, ect. All say they did it but when a member asks for help on who to do it no one responds.
All the "how to'S" are imcomplete and I have tried to piece it all together with no luck. Unless someone can show me how in a complete and cognitaive way the I will say BS. So XDA, prove me wrong. Step by step.
There are few threads here of people asking for help but no one answer so perhaps it cant be done. Flame if you must but if you have a legit way i will gladly thank you. Please don't link useless websites that you know don't work.

seriously? you can´t do it? it´s been done, it´s easy, i had it on my streak but didn´t like so went back to 1.6. are you talking about 2.1 or 2.2? 2.1 is very simple to get on the streak 2.2 is very near look here It says it´s a leak, everything works except phone but don´t hink it´ll take long to patch up.
can´t wait to get the download links.

Aforementioned post on MyDellMini has been updated with download links and instructions
Seriously? I have had 2.1 on my streak since the beta came out. Followed the instructions and it was easier that putting a new ROM on my HD2. I don't understand how you can't believe this, there are pics and Streaks selling on ebay with 2.1 on them. I used the instructions from Modaco. Followed everystep exactly. Perfect.
I too had problems at first, but I followed the steps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776883
and it loaded up on the first try.
I have run into the problems with dead links too. Apparently Dell has removed the 2.1 ROM from their site. Most howto posts declare that other upgrade methods did not work for them. It can be confusing and frustrating.
OP: rather than declare that it's fake (like a round earth), just detail what you have done and what the results were. Then ask if you were missing a step.

New phone and need a little assistance.

This is my first android phone. Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. I plan on rooting my phone tomorrow and I was wanting to put 2.2 firmware on the phone. I have been told that there are different roms and such and I was hoping someone here could tell me which is the best way to go about upgrading my phone. I tried reading some threads but I am not sure which is the best way to go. Any help would be appreciated.
If you've never rooted your phone and installed a custom ROM before... Read, read, read these forums and especially the thread for the ROM you are thinking of installing. Know how to get yourself out of a jam before you even get in it.

+1...This is what I followed when I flashed my wifes vibrant awhile back, and followed again just a few days ago when I picked mine up.
As for 2.2 ROMs...you will just have to play with them. I would recommend starting with flashable ROMs as they are a little easier to work with if you do not have a lot of experience with flashing
I might suggest this one if you want a no frills basic 2.2 stable, rooted ROM to work with

Thread cleaned. Stop the flaming.
Thanks for the replies! I will start off with that nice guide on how to root the phone. I get the phone tomorrow so hopefully I will not be in here crying about how I ruined my phone. The last phone I modded was the first gen iPhone a few years back. There are so many different things to read that this is a little confusing. I mostly created this thread to get pointed to what works best for those on this forum.

[Q]Rooted Note+Warranty.Did Reset Counter.How 2 Pull Batt @ 50% Firmware Update?

Thanks Guys!
I finally figured it out! My phone is not Rooted, running stock ICS, With a flash coutner of 0!
I ended up getting Kies, emergency firmware update to work. Full the full details go to this link!

Just wanted to update my thread, I hate it when people do not post the end result lol.
All of this to return a device to stock ???
My friend ....
Look at the top of the general section ....
There you will find a thread called ...."galaxy note super everything thread"
Scroll down the first post in the thread until you reach the " return to stock " sub section.
There you will find 3 different and confirmed methods ....
Read them, then read again ....
The methods are simple and effective .....g
And at the end of those three methods your counter will be zero.
I made things much harder than they needed to be!
I finally got it figured out! This is my first week of android, but I really like the flexibility of it. I just find iOS boring now days. I had an Iconia tablet a while back, I eventually gave it to my mom, but I never realized the capability of the OS till spending the weekend messing with rooting etc.
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read my thread.
I edited it to reflect how I solved the problem, and put a link to the Kies Emergency Firmware Recovery thread, in case anyone finds themselves in my situation (I also explained exactly how I got it to work on the last post of page 9, the method seems to have changed a little bit since the original post) .
I'm glad it all worked out for you !
Great work ...g

Help Please : 2.3.6 -- 4.5.145 Bootloader unlock and Root HELP

Hi everyone,
I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff. Recently, my phone has been running really slow, and I remembered people saying that rooting and flashing custom roms will help increase the efficiency of the phone. I've been looking through tons of threads and countless google searches trying to find a tested and working method for BL unlock and root for a stock MB860 on Android 2.3.6 -- 4.5.145. Yet I haven't found anything. Can I get some suggestions/help? Thanks.
PS - I plan on getting the SGS4, but till I see some actual benchmarks/comparisons between the two chipsets that they phone is shipping with, I'll have to rely on my Atrix 4G. And right now, as I said earlier in the post, it's acting extremely sluggish in every sense of the word.

Wow thanks. Everyone posting on there says it's real easy to use. Unfortunately no one has system version 4.5.145 like I do. I'm not sure how important that actually is but I have read that version does matter. But it is nice to see people have used it successfully used it with 2.3.6. I posted on that thread and am waiting for a response. Thanks again.
