[Q] Album Art & 2.3.3 Music Palyer - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cleared my Cache of album thumbs as it was massive!
Only problem now is that some tracks don't have album art, others do.
Every track has album art in Poweramp, so im wondering why its not working on the stock music player?

That's a good question!

well i once read something about this. i had a similar problem but vice versa. poweramp didn't show album art. the problem lies with the combination of the album arts and the tracks itself probably. you should use a programme to create album art for albums. worked for me.
think the programme is called mp3tag.
hope it works for you

[Q] Searching for a good media player !!

So far I have tried the following media players but all have some missing features that stop them from being ultimate media player
Samsung Stock Vibrant
+ Awesome sounds
+ Equalizer
+ Cool album art brower
- No widget
- Does not automatically download album art
Media Player Pro
+ Automatically downloads album art/artist pictures
+ Decent looking interface and themes
+ Excellent widget support
- No equalizer
- Does not sounds as good as Samsung Player
Mix Zing Player
+ Good Sound
+ Equalizer
+ Widget Support
- No artist picture support
- No way to pick album art manually (at least I haven't found a way)
So now the question is, is there an Ultimate Media player available for Vibrant ?
Also, all players have one issue that they all show same artwork for "Greatest Hits" album no matter which artist it is. I have manually edited the mp3 tags with correct album art but still have the same issue.
Search for "Album Art Grabber" to get album art and DoubleTwist for music - works great.
no problems even with albums with the same names.

Just tried DoubleTwist. The interface is nice but it does neither support artist images nor has an equalizer.
Try mediapro

That still won't give me a media player widget or artist pictures
well out of all the options you listed seems to be the best
all you listed for samsung is that it wont download album art nothing about artist
I like Lithium It rocks with one handed operation. As well it will grab album art.
Cubed / Rockon is your best bet for media players on any android.
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/03/23/android-quick-app-3-or-cubed-music-player/
It's purdy, and very functional.
My only beef is that it has no Genre View but playlists can handle that.
OH and it has a badass widget.

Its nice but it does not have an eQ either.
I've tried a ton of different music players I've found Mixzing or the stock samsung music player far better than anything else out there. I usually tag all my music before I put it on my phone but in the rare case I use MP3 Tagger Pro.
My go-to media player (if I don't use the stock one) has always been Meridian. No Eq though. Don't think you'll find that in any player except stockers.

Mixzing is the only one I've seen, besides stock, that has an EQ.
I finally settled on Mixzing after trying out Tunewiki and Doubletwist. The problem with the stock player is that it can't give you an artist list if you have a lot of music--that makes it unusable for me.
Tunewiki was okay, but slow and it was just ugly. Doubletwist is just way more limited; good integration with iTunes, but you can't make playlists on the go and the video player sucks.
Have any of you guys ever gotten the genre view to work properly with the default player? My track metadata would always be ignored and the player would classify them as whatever it felt like. It was extremely annoying.
So far Mixzing seems to be the best player (though it still does not support artist pictures)

Album Artist tag in music player

I'm looking for a music player that reads the album artist (or band) tag of music files, if anyone knows of one. Or a means to modify existing players to read this tag. So far I've come up with absolutely nothing.
Appreciate it!
Do you mean like album art showing up? I re-tagged all my music on my pc, making sure artist/title/album and corresponding album art were all correct and the stock music player reads it just fine.

I think he's referring to the fact that the Samsung player can't handle more than some small and finite number of artists. If you load too much music, it gives you an error when searching by Artist.
I just downloaded the new WinAmp and am definitely digging it. MixZing is also good if you need EQ.
What I mean is reading the ID3 tag value for %album artist% or %band%.
%band% is what WMP12 and iTunes use for their album's artist. %album artist% is used by most other players (foobar).
WMP12 uses the %artist% field for contributing artists on the track, which is how my whole music library is tagged (so none of my songs have ft. Kanye West in the title)
For an example song, The Fire by The Roots, featuring John Legend
%track% - 11
%title% - The Fire
%album% - How I Got Over
%album artist% - The Roots
%band% - The Roots
%artist% - The Roots; John Legend
%genre% Rap & Hip-Hop
The problem is that all of the music players I've encountered thus far read the %artist% tag as the album artist, so what I get is a ridiculous artist list like
The Roots
The Roots/Dice Raw
The Roots/John Legend
The Roots/Mos Def/Styles P./Dice Raw
The Roots/Truck North/P.O.R.N./Dice Raw
Which is a huge pain in the ass, because I can't easily select all the songs by the roots.
I don't have a problem with the artist list crashing in Samsung's Music Player, but I do have a problem with it and Cubed both crashing when attempting to search music. Also, Winamp's search just flat out turned up no results. Yet ringdroid's search works great. Lame.
I do have a gripe about Samsung's display of the album art, as every file has 500x500 px art embedded yet it displays junk art. But that's for another day.

[Q] Music Player

I'm using the pre-installed Music player app to play my WMA files.
I've used WMP on my PC to sync all the music to an MicroSDHC card. That completed ok, and I can see all my music through the player. There are a few hundred albums, but only 2 of them show album art.
Is there something else I need to do to make sure all the album art is visible when scrolling through the list of albums?
Re:
I am having the same problem with the stock music player, but with MP3 files. Only around 10 out of 300 files have the album art showing. Did you find out what the problem was?
I have embedded the album art within each file. The same files had the album art displaying perfectly on my previous phone, the N97 Mini. So I know the problem is not with the mp3 files.

Thats becos their extension of those file is m4a. The phone find it hard to read those taggs so it comes up as unknonw artiste. Try to download MEDIA FIX from the android market.it should fix almost the whole issue. that is if the issue is with the file extension. cheers
I found out that WMP does not put the artist details into the metadata tags of the music when you perform a sync from its library to a a target such as a USB drive or SD card.
As a workaround, I just used Windows Explorer to drag the music folder to the SD card. All the album art then showed up in the music player. I've seen a few solutions for syncing music onto the SD Card but haven't tried any yet. WINAMP is meant to do it but the reviews say it's a bit troublesome. I don't get much music, so now it's copied over the card it's easy to add more albums. I guess if you are always adding more music to your library that could become tedious.
I had the same problem with the stock music player. I use PowerAmp music player instead now, It shows all the album art, plus if some are missing it will find them for you. It is the best music player on android market, better than stock music player.
playerpro is also a good alternative
yes
Same here bro
Re:
Thanks guys but my problem was solely with the album art not showing, the other tags were being displayed correctly. Anyway, I fixed it by putting the album art jpg (renamed to folder.jpg) inside each albums folder. This did the trick, and now the album art is displaying properly in stock player, Winamp and Poweramp.
Seems the S2 in some cases, cannot read the album art embedded in the individual mp3 file itself, but can pick up the folder.jpg file in each albums folder.

[Q] Music Player App

Ok, so I've been using the stock android music player for over 2 months now. It has all the functionality I want in a music player except maybe editing tags (album name, artists, etc) and finding album art (Album Art Grabber is my current solution to this).
The problem I have been having with this player is that when transferring music to the phone via 'Windows Media Sync' option is that sometimes the album art will not appear on the phone (happens to quite a few albums) and also the tags will be messed up. For instance, just recently I turned the phone on and was browsing my music library and all of a sudden the song titles appeared in lower case (ie. 'Tighten Up' became 'tighten up') I know this is a small thing but I find it annoying a little. Other things like artists will appear as 'Unknown'.
Anyone experience these problems as well? What programs/apps do you guys use? I've tried out poweramp trial version and it does allow my to edit tags but I was wondering if there is an app that is a sort of one click 'Find Album Info' like in Windows Media Player?
Check the music player called Neutron on the app market

[Q] Album Art missing on 2.3.3 Stock player?

Hi all...am facing a strange problem.
After updating to 2.3.3, the music app fails to read the embedded album art in all my music files. But the album art is displayed perfectly by all other players like MixZing. What's wrong? I tried removing and re-transferring the semcmusic.apk and mediaprovider.apk files, but no effect. I have also tried clearing the app data but nothing seems to work.
I am really liking the new music app by SE - but without the album art, it looks all bland. Any suggestions?
I'm facing the same issue here in stock 2.3.3 music player.
I tried the ubermusic, but, unlike you, the problem persists...
I'm really waiting for sugestions.
try going into applications and look for media storage and clear data. This will remove all your songs from the music player until your device re-scans your sd card.
After that you can download and app like album art grabber for free and it will get the album art for most if not all of your songs.
Thx ..i was really confused ..trying diff music players so as to get album art.. u have solved my problem thx...
Worked for me...thanks!
clear media storage helped me too thanks!
I tried media grabber and iTag ...and it works fine for me...thanks for the tip...

Thanks! Did the trick.
Did a forced re-scan thru ÜberMusic app and the pics came back.
(I always have album art manually inserted.)
