Hi guys,
I still possible to make SGS2 unlock the phone as soon as i enter the right pin code on lock screen, without having to press the OK button down the bottom?
Doubt it, asthe ability to lock the sim card be too great. Example: you make a mistake on the last digit. 2 attempts left. You have taken a couple of beers. Ops. Sim Locked
Has anyone found a solution to this??
I've been customizing my phone every day for who knows how long, little by little to get it just how i like it, and this 'OK' button is annoying. VERY annoying. Though, I need a PIN on my phone, and 99.99%of the apps on the market have horrible horrible designs. No offence, but I'd rather stay with the android look. All of the thread's I've found have either told someone to use a third-party app, or use CM10. Well, someone who has almost all of their information on their phone can't afford to install this, seeing as it wipes your entire phone, and for a PIN, that's unnecessary. I don't know what roms are, same with roms. I like the way the touchwiz UI looks on my E4GT(I have fk09 leak installed, recently got this phone, and barely had anything on it). I like the way JB looks with touchwiz way more than it did on ICS(looked horrid).
TL;DR
If someone can find a fix to this, without any third party launchers, or horrible-looking apps, that would be great. If you give a rom, explain how to install it. Thanks in advance.
The rom SlimBean has this feature which I use. It can be found in the lock screen settings.

I'm going to preempt the inevitable question that's going to come following Drexciya's excellent suggestion to use Slim if you want this feature (tick quick unlock in settings/interface/lock screen/screen security).
How do you install it ? Read the first page of the Slim thread in Development. Easy.

Thanks for an answer, but AFAIK, FK09 has no recovery mod, which i didn't realize, and unless someone kniws of one that supports the build,pr whatever, I can't load any mods.. Also, links to specefic topics help a lot..
And you're unable to go to the Development section & look for the Slim Bean thread like everyone else here why exactly ? (using the XDA app on your phone & being too lazy don't count as valid answers).
Re: whatever you're running now that has no recovery, looks like you're going to have to flash something else; another rom that has CWRecovery or at the very least temporary CWRecovery (which will disappear after you reboot) if you want to flash Slim. I don't believe there's an Odin version.

No, I'm not being lazy, I simply dont know where to look. Not sure if you could tell, t I'm new here, and I'm not used to this. Did you expect me to just know where EVERYTHING is? I found this thread after wasting my entire evening looking for a solution, and found this thread. I signed up specefically for this purpose. I was trying to ask for a link without looking too unappreciative, but rhatbobvoliously didn't help. And I don't use an xda app, nor do I intend to.

I really don't know how to do this.. Is there a thread for this? I'll just google it.. Thanks anyways.
My point was (is) I don't have a link. If I want to get you a link, I'd go to Development (by navigating the site; not exactly a new fandangled web thingy) & find the thread, come back here & post the link. You're perfectly capable of doing this yourself, yet you expect me to that ?
That speaks volumes about the people who seem to visit here these days. They want everything served up to them on a silver platter with a minimum or no effort on their own part.
Also, from his first post in this thread, he's an Epic 4g Touch user. Any ROM suggestions he gets here are likely to be i9100 ROMs.

And this shows that some people who find themselves comfortable here can't read. I obviously don't know how to get to development, or how to navigate the forums. I don't inderatand how it takes any more explaination that I DON'T KNOW where to look. Get around looking like a smart allic, and actually take the time to help people around. What are you, 14? You act like it, as everyone is supposed to know everything on a site for developers. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I know nothing about these things. I didn't do the rooting, soneone else did, so stop expecting everyone knows as much about this forum, or everything you are, because they don't. As far as I know, I didn't come here to argue with someone I don't even know, who thinks they're an internet genious, I came here for support. A link is the least of your problems if you think I know where it is. If you don't want to, don't do it, that's simple, just don't do it. Just don't reply, and save yourself the embarassment, because you just made the forums seem like ignorant children with conputers, who care more about criticising people than anything.

Aren't they both Galaxy SII's? I would think they did the same, and these roms run the same.. Does that mean that there are no rom for the epic 4g touch? If not, is there a way around this without rom?

Clearly you don't know you're in the wrong place anyways.
Yes, they are both Galaxy SII's. They are different, however, since yours (Epic 4g Touch) is a phone designed to work on Sprint's CDMA network. That phone has a separate forum. There are plenty of ROMs for that device in its forum.
The device this forum is for (GT-I9100) is a GSM phone that won't even work on Sprint's network. So no, ROMs for this phone won't work on your phone.

[Q] Most Stable, most compatible, most feature filled ROM? <ABRUPTLY TERMINATED>
Hey guys,
I have a very quick question, I want to know a ROM that is most stable, that has a lot of tweaks within a tweak manager, cool effects and keeps ALL the Galaxy S II functions (Camera).
I've tried CM7.1, I guess it's a great ROM to replace old device's ROM, but there are many functions removed from the stock Samsung ROM (Task Manager when hold home) and the Camera app (most important for me).
I'm just looking for the most stable (least or no bugs), cool tweaks (CRT/Overglow effect/Overclocking) and one that keeps Camera app to the stock one.
Lastly, if I were to flash a custom ROM, would I be able to flash back my speedmod kernel?
Thanks all
Nicholas
p.s. I would also be very happy if it came with CWM5

Sorry, I know MANY ROMS out there, but I want to know by first hand experience about everyone's thoughts about many of the new ROMs and the most stable ones that recently came out. I just want people's opinions, and not a written guarantee on a forum post. I'm very sorry if I caused so much of a nuisance.
If you want people opinions, why dont you spend time reading through the threads of those particular roms, they will give you all the feedback you need....

As I clearly stated before, I have flashed CM7.1 and have not bricked. I don't think I'm incapable of flashing, as I flashed many phones recently, and I made many USB jigs for my phone and my friend's phone, I'm not that kind of Android newbie as you think I am, I used MANY Android secondary phones in the past since Android 1.6, and I flashed many different kinds of ROMs on many other devices ever since.
This thread is only asking for NEW opinions on the latest ROMs for the Galaxy S II, I want to know through experience if you like it or not, if it's good to use and if it still retains complete factory functionality.
Amazing.......I actually would of thought people who actually value their time, would just write one word like "VillainROM" or "CM" or "Cognition" and then make it to be 10 chars in total.
Thanks, what amazing people here.

I'm pissed just like him when I see the same carbon copied thread: "hello guys, because i am a very important person, i deserve special treatment and I want you all to find me the best rom, which fulfills the following requirements: x,y,z."
Come on... there's the forum, there are 100 similar threads open, read the descriptions, do something.
Well, it is a very generic and most commonly asked question as I checked around the forum, it would be best if a ROM list was stickied, so these types of questions would be eliminated.

As opposed to actually opening dev section and reading what each custom rom does .
If you are to lazy to do that then you are flashing a rom with no understanding of what you are doing or why that = bricked phone newbies cries help post .

True that JJE, I would hate when that happens - when people don't know what they're doing, brick their phones, and then start a new thread asking for help. I understand.
I took four whole days looking at this forum, through almost 200 threads thoroughly, but most people I presume want to do it immediately and want to know the best ROMs at that very moment.
But anyways, the thread I linked was stickied and was very helpful.

I'm a semi noob who has flashed a few ROMs and have read through alot of the threads in the developers forum trying to find the 'perfect' ROM for me. I'm currently running VillainRom 3.0. It works fine. However, I understand what the creator of the thread is looking for. I would also like to know what other people think is a great ROM and a brief explanation of why they like it. All the ROM threads in the development forum are full of people asking why this or that doesn't work or how do I fix this? I find it hard to find a reason to use any particular ROM from the information in those threads. To cut a long story short, why don't the elitist ROM wankers keep their comments out of these 'Best ROM' threads, even if it's been asked before, and let people who want to share information do so.
Oh yeah so VillainROM 2.5 and 3.0 are good ROMs. They've worked fine for me, and from what I've read of other ROMs I haven't been convinced to change yet.

Where in settings is option to set how long capacitive lights stay on?
you have to more specific..There is alot of jelly bean roms floating around..And some are different..Perhaps rephrasing your question, you'll get a quicker response?
Well I thought my question was pretty straight forward, I ask here so as to not cloud the rom thread (they ***** hard about that)
Just like in a normal stock gb/ics rom, in display you have an option to set how long to keep the capacitive buttons lit: 6 seconds, as long as screen on, never, etc
Question is simply where is this option in jelly bean?
How crazy is that people get upset when people post frivolous questions in the "DEVELOPMENT" section? Who would have known? What fascist Nazis!
OP, you still didn't answer the question wish777 asked you. Instead you choose to be arrogant. So in turn I will not answer your question even though I know the answer.
how do you know which jelly bean rom he has? or is that setting in generically the same place?
saywhat10 : please specify which from you have... and someone familiar with that particular rom will answer. thanks

How was I arrogant, i simply rephrased it like he requested. A 2 year old could understand my question I asked. Plus he didnt actually ASK me a question or ASK which rom I was on if you can read. You simply implied he did, but he didnt directly. He simply asked me to rephrase which is incredibly VAGUE. So i chose what to rephrase, was totally in the scope of his request
But i can be arrogant: Only kids play games like responding saying you know the answer but wont give it. Can beleive you took a simply question i asked and just ran with it for no reason
But Jimbomb, i'm on slimbean, but was on the impression that its a stock option, generically in the same place, independant of which jelly bean version. All the ICS roms they used they were all in the same place

No one is trying to play games bud....its just easier to know what jelly bean rom your on...There is no default jelly bean rom.....if you want to be specific your on jelly bean/cm10 to be honest...all the roms are using jelly bean as a base, with or without cm10...I'm not trying to be mean,Am only trying to help you?..if I knew more info, It would be allitle easier..but I can't or anybody else, because we don't know what rom you were on...

thanks, but on this jelly bean, theres no "advanced" after going to settings
First, its pretty standard procedure when asking a question to provide as much detail as possible such as what ROM you're on and what mods you're using, not just JB. That you did not.
Second, the development section does not require you to be a techie, it simply requires you to be observant and able to learn by reading, experimenting, and drawing your own conclusions.
Third, you basically answered your own question, which goes back to drawing your own conclusions from reading and experimenting. You stated that its available on stock ROMs. The duration setting is available only on TW based ROMs AFAIK, which you seemed to have observed. Since CM9/10 aren't TW based, they don't have the duration settings. The option to turn on or off is available on CM9 ROMs and CM10 ROMs that include the advanced menu under settings. If your ROM doesn't have the advanced menu, then the developer hasn't included it.
Remember, developers build these ROMs for themselves first, then generously share them with us. The answer to every 'why isn't this included?' question is that the developer simply hasn't included it. Just keep in mind that the developer built it for themselves on their own free time, and that you aren't entitled to anything, and you can politely suggest to the developer that a feature be included. Expecting and demanding won't get you anywhere. You were expecting this feature. If you're not happy use something else.

Who the hell demanded anything? I simply asked a simple question in the correct Q & A forum
If you read I said I thought the answer was rom independent, do you know what that means? Then you are harping on me not saying which rom I was on but looks like it didn't even matter which one im on because the option doesn't exist on any dag on note jelly bean rom!
And if I knew the answer why the hell would I even ask the question in the first place? Use common sense please
And then you say we don't have to be a techie, but make a techie answer! Very funny math my man!
Only a techie knows how each stock cm9 cm10 aosp aokp works, I don't! So i asked a freakin question here!
Stop being so pressed to come on to flame people just because they are not a know it all like you!Either you wanted to give me an answer to my question or not, all that other stuff is totally unnecessary!!! This is what blows this whole community
I was trying to help you out man. This whole blowing up at people doesn't help anything, which I've consistently seen you do in the past. I was trying to tell you not that you knew the answer, but that you had already observed everything you needed to draw a reasonable conclusion that CM9/10 ROMs don't have the ability to set duration. My answer wasn't very techie, and I don't consider myself very techie, I just was trying to give you advice on how to better solve your own problems. You don't need to be a techie to try out the ROMs available and see what each one does/doesn't include.
Sorry about the last couple sentences, I realize they were harsher than they needed to be. But the rest really wasn't aimed at you, it was general advice about drawing your own conclusions and whatnot, which everybody can use.

I'm inclined to side with the OP on this one. I've noticed that a lot of active members here can be dickish towards new members with valid, albeit naive questions.
The whole community reeks of elitism, but I can look past that myself cause it's such a useful site. I'm not trying to fuel the flames, just pointing out what I have observed. None of the antagonism has been aimed at me, as I like to do a good job of supplying as much detail as possible when I post.... but still.
Ok guys. wuuussssaaaa. I can see both sides of the argument. Some older users can be a bit touch (which welch was not.) He gave you the answer to your question and explained why you did not find it.
As for being a techy know it all. There is no such thing. With the way the mobile OS is evolving, you are always learning something new. Now for your question, A search would have given you the answers you were looking for. As per the rules you agreed to when you joined. You did read them right jk lol.
You have to remember this is not just a Development forum but one of the biggest in the world. You will find techies, techie jargoon, and other things you dont understand. Take the time to learn, it will save you tons of frustration.

Well considering that there are over 4 million members, then yes. The question. Has a good chance of already being asked at some point or another. Do you really think your the first to notice the missing option?
So you search first. And then on the off chance you can't find anything even remotely related to your question, then you open a new thread

Hello,
i want to flash my Samsung device. It says at boot Samsung Galaxy S3 l9300 so i guess its an international with no branding.
But i am not sure and i wont do anything wrong. As far i could check for myself rooting+flashing is pretty easy i just want to make sure everything is good to go.
So please tell me how to check and thing.
Secondly, i dont ask you for the best rom/kernel but i ask you for some Roms with less preinstalled as possible but as much installed as needed.
e.g. its very subjectiv whats needed and what not so
i wont use google maps, video hub, mp3 hub and those social/sharing/web application.
The main goal why i want to flash my sgs3 is to maximize the battery as much as possible.
what i use daily:
Phone / E-mail / sms/mms / messenger / social networks (such as facebook, twitter but right now only fb) / Calendar / Contact / Weather / Alarm / Camera / file explorer / mp3 / cloudservice (such as dropbox) and but not so often this time but maybe more often in the future / news apps /
thats it. I really dont want to have all those ebooks/videohub/mp3/hub/flipboard and whatsoever. There are toooo much custom application i never would touch and some of them cant be deinstalled either.
Setting up the sgs3 with samsung and googlemail account should work properly...
Also i am not sure if i need the gmail application preinstalled. I want to use k-9 mail and i never touch gmail but i cant deinstall it.
I am unfortunately newb to it and i cant customize it myself that much but i am willing to install a less bloated Rom
Those are the two question:
What SGS3 do i have
What Rom could you suggest for as much as possible battery improvement/less consumption but still nice to have (i wont have an text base sgs3 like we know from linux itself not sure if that is even possible but i guess so xD)
Thank you for the time
regards

New to XDA also....sooooo.......you need to go to i9300 development and original development and read the Rom descriptions.
First you need to check XDA forum rules out.

What did i wrong? I posted in general becuz the forum rules say : if you are not sure where to post -> then post in general. Since i asked 2 different questions in once i wasnt that sure and thought the general section would be better.
Also i added the [Q] tag for question.
What else should i do?

Re: [Q] from Newb | What SGS3 do i have and
Ok, I'm going to be gentle on you......
Firstly, any help you get will be from people like me, ordinary users that have taken time to learn and then share knowledge.
The forum operates in various principals.
One of the fundamentals is that people read, read, read and learn...
Further to that using either Google or the forum search facility should preceed any posting of questions, as they have almost certainly been asked before.
Questions asking advice about Roms are nearly always considered as best Rom threads, which aren't allowed. The reasons for this are that every users needs are individual and also, from a developers point of view, it is no fun having your Rom compared to other people's Roms.
Just as an additional note, no one earns money from what they do here, it is just people sharing work they have done (in the same spirit as the principal of "open source"
So reread my first post to you, and follow the steps I advised, and you will become a good XDA user, as opposed to a bad one!

Hello,
....
Basics read first .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927113
Secondly, i dont ask you for the best rom/kernel but i ask you for some Roms with less preinstalled as possible but as much installed as needed.
Read the rom descriptions yourself otherwise it is a what rom best rom post .
You are better to understand the basics before flashing or you may brick your phone .

Hello everyone.
First of all, I don't even know if this question is noobish or not, but I just can't solve this "problem" (or not?)
So, the thing is, I don't like color "fading" on my GS3 display. I see layers that fade out one below eachother, and it is deffinitely not right. For example when I start some app like Solid Explorer, the second before the main page loads I see these annoying "layers". And also on any image where the color has to fade out into another color, it is also noticable. Then, as I guessed, it depends on kernel.
As I said, I don't know what kind of question is this ) and I don't know if someone knows about that but still, do you know something about that?
PS. I attached a screenshot of solid explorer before it loads the main page so that you could know what I'm talking about.
Thank you in advance
it's called color banding, try a custom kernel

I tried every god damn kernel I found, the best of them was Siyah 1.9.1 but it's not perfect either. I remember when I was on stock there were no such problems and color banding was perfect. Do you know any kernel? What do you use? I have samsung I9300

Thats the thing. No one can tell you what one will work for your device as each and every device is different. So you will have to test them out.
As for the language. The whole GD is not needed. While I dont really care this is a world wide forum and we need to respect everyone.

As I understand, the part of the main aims of this website is to share our experiences about different devices. So, there is a big chance, that someone has had a problem like me, this is why I asked? Why are you so aggressive towards me?
In addition, I am not from USA/UK and I'm not native English speaker, but this "GD" thing I hear everywhere, so I didn't know it is that "big deal", specially, when I do not offend anyone.
Anyway, if you don't have any suggestions, you should just leave and put your hating anywhere else.

Ok first you may want to rethink how you come off to a moderator of this forum. I was not aggressive in anyway. If I see anyone use that term they are told the same thing.
Now someone may have had the same issue but what worked for them may not work for you. That is why you were told to try out other kernels.
This is a developers forum not a support site. Most things here will always have a bug or two as we enjoy trying things out and breaking things to see if we can fix it.

To be honest, I really thought twice before posting the last comment, but still, I don't understand what you're saying at all. I said i'm trying lots of kernels to find the perfect one for me, but what is wrong with asking? What worked for them may actually work for me right?
I don't know about you moderators, but we, mortal users, sometimes support each other, so yes, this forum is somehow support site too.
Have a nice day.
