[Q] Which firmware now? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey People, love your work,
Been reading heaps, had it sorted, then read :- look under battery!
Bought a great unlocked used phone, looked in specs(about phone)- X10a.
Patiently waiting for the GB, read about further software detail available (thanks Arkedk):- customization 1237-1014-r6B (found in list for X10a CUST-AR NAM1) Argentina?
Still waiting patiently then read "look under battery" found Si 1232 4493 (X10i generic Optus -Au, GB now available?)
Phone must be unlocked- working great on Telstra.
I am now wondering what would be the best firmware for optimum operation in Aus. before GB upgrade. The phone doesn't seem to care what it is loaded with, it works great regardless(2.1), but maybe it can be better! Maybe we can run almost any firmware.
Can someone assist with a direction?

I have been a fan of WB 2.3 rom but honestly it is still early days.. I think it is almost time to retire this phone

Did I type firmware?
The vid was right, I hate myself.
I think I was asking about region code, best for X10i in Aus.

Advice pls - new Orange Hero, software ver, root?

Hi there, I'm a Dream and Desire owner who has rooted both handsets and I'm reasonably confident I can follow instructions
A colleague at work has just ordered the Hero on Orange (UK), and she's gone online and started reading up on it - first mistake! She's come across a few complaints concerning the Orange ROM and she's asked me "the phone guy" how easy it is to load the HTC ROM onto her phone.
I was caught on the hop, having never even seen a Hero in real life, nor followed the XDA forums for this particular handset. I have a few questions for you guys, if you don't mind - will likely save me hours of reading
1. What version of Android are Orange dishing out on their Heros atm? Donut or Eclair?
2. Depending on the answer to above, please point me in the direction of a rooting guide for the thing.
3. If I can root, what's the best developer ROM around for SPEED and STABILITY? This is a one time thing, I don't want her running back to me every other week, with problems that I can't solve there and then without flashing the thing all the time.
4. If root can't be achieved, can I use a goldcard method to load up the HTC ROM instead? Show me where/how please.
5. What are the known problems with the Orange ROMs - is it even worth me going to the trouble? Will loading up the HTC ROM make a noticeable difference for her?
Finally, she hasn't even got the thing yet, and since I've never had it I can't imagine what probs she may run into. It would be nice to educate her and get on these forums reading and doing stuff herself, but I don't think that will happen tbh. With that in mind I'm looking for suggestions to optimise the thing for permanent daily use. I don't want bleeding edge, just as much performance as I can squeeze out of it without compromising reliability.
Many thanks for your replies - don't be afraid to get technical with me!

1) Should be 1.5 (can't remember codename) as I don't think they have finished customising their own 2.1 ROM.
I doubt many carriers will do 2.1 on shipped phones, as hero is at end of life tbh and likely won't be made in large enough quantities to justify using new ROM.
2) http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=375
3) VillainROM 12 or any other final GSM WWE should be fine. Just test if a little and it should be fine. Watch out for OC settings if you want it to be noob-proof. Go for safe settings.
4) That guide explains all methods
5) No idea. IMHO carrier ROMs are all crap, just like stock ones. No root is the big one for me.
Just install a decent ROM for this last point. Anything recent that's been up for a while without many updates should be fine
Thanks anon2122, that helps me out a lot

Unfortunately not right now, as the server appears to be down
But it will be back soon. When it is, go to development forum, then in the list of announcements is one for radio rom download links.
Click that, and take the second newest one iirc. Or read the later posts for people confirming which version works on which network.

[Q] OTA Update/GPS in Europe?

I`ve just found out that Samsung would "send" us the update that most of us were waiting for a long a time. However, I have no idea if I would be able to get it or not.
Why? I went to NY a couple of months ago and I bought the phone over there... I came back to Europe and I am using the phone without problems except for this issue with the GPS.
I am still able to receive this update even after unlock the phone to use it overseas? If not, what can I do? I have never rooted my phone or any other of those things, to be honest I dunno much about phones.
What are the benefits of rooting? What are the ROMS for? (just trying to catch up a bit without creating 2 threads ).
Cheers!
Moved to Q&A and edited forst post and title.
I guess you have a valid question cocnerning the GPS and Update....but if you want to know about Rooting and ROMS start reading...all the info you require can be found with out starting a new thread.
Thanks!
Somebody? Please!
No one? Please help me out
Ive been to T-Mobile here in Germany and they have no idea about this! It would be so nice if I could get this info somewhere

[Q] When will i get 2.1?

I have an xperia x10i its UK branded from 3. Searched but did not find a date for the update.
wait and see
Fortunately Sony Ericsson announced the update for today for Nordic countries, then they roll out form now on daily, but they didn't announce anything for the rest kits/builds. The best place to check is their blog feom the sony ericsson site.
tried to post the URL, but I couldn't due to the restriction of the forum
I'm waitting as well, good luck to you
for a first post that is a seriously epic fail..
Go to the general section.. there are 2 stickies on there talking about nothing but the 2.1 upgrade..

You personally will get 2.1 after you quietly sit down and show that you can be a good little boy/girl.
Christmas is coming, so for you, I expect it will be very soon.
I live in sweden so i already have
It's much better than 1.6
Instead of creating another "when will I get 2.1" thread, why not ring your carrier and ask.

[ROM] AT&T Xperia X10 *** ORIGINAL *** Android 1.6

If anyone wants it, here is the ORIGINAL ROM for the AT&T Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 .. Original meaning, Android 1.6.
X10a_ATT_US_ATT_1237_3761.rar / 132.92MB
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=75B84QCX
I have used this many times with NO issues in regards to reverting my X10a back to factory default .. the program I use to do this is Omnius for SE v0.15. If you want this software, link below.

Anyways this post is not relevant to Development...
I find this relevant to the fact that anyone wants to flash there phone back to factory in case they want to return there phones because of broken promises from AT&T in regards to getting updates for the X10a to even 2.1, it sucks.
On top if that, even flashing anything from here is NOT guaranteed to work 100%.
So, is it relevant to post this in the DEVELOPER section for any X10 .. YES it is.

You're welcome .. believe me, I'm about to do the same thing .. although mine was a free-bee from Best Buy that I received 1 week ago .. don't like the fact that after getting this and finding out from AT&T that they have had an update for this phone since August 2010, that it still HAS NOT been released to its customers because of testing purposes to get it working perfectly .. come on, 6 months already .. and its even an OLD version of Android !!!!
I've tried MANY ROM's from here on this X10a (that gives you an idea as to how much I have learned on here in 1 week) .. and I'm definately not happy. This is my first Android phone (thinking I'd try it out since people rant and rave as to how much better it is than and iPhone) .. truthfully .. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 that is jailbroken .. never had any problems with my iPhone .. and I'm sticking with it.
Maybe once Google or even ALL the manufacturers and cell providers have got it together in regards to bring out a Android phone that is at least workable, upgradable (without stories or lies) .. I may go ahead and get another Android.

Isn't this listed here? Also, using Omnius is NOT free. You will have to buy credits to flash.

Right .. YES, this has ALREADY been posted .. I also tried that hacked up version from the original posting .. it is NOT the OFFICIAL firmware release from AT&T for the X10a, and is definately missing something and buggy.
I have friends at AT&T .. the one I posted is the OFFICIAL release from AT&T for the X10a and was obtained right from AT&T .. and if you decide to check it out .. you will see that the file is LARGER in size than that buggy one that "oalf170892" posted.
Official Firmware I released : 132.92MB
Buggy Firmware released by oalf170892 : 118.76MB
Someone want to tell me why there is a 14.16MB difference in the size ??? hence why I had problems with oalf170892's release, its definately missing something in the files.
If the Mod's decide to remove this thread .. that would be there decision, but at the same time .. it would be nice for the Mod to tell me or someone, for what reason they have to remove it.
Dang I had my x10 for 9 months now from att. Should of returned it when I had the chance
Sent from my X10 using XDA App
This thread has bee closed due to a stock roms thread already being in existence.

[Q] Huawei Boulder 8350 : more recent Android version ?

Hi,
I've looked around the forums and haven't found an answer to that. I'm a complete noob concerning Android phones, so sorry if my question is silly (or already has an answer somewhere).
It's quite simple : I wanna buy a Huawei Boulder 8350 for my girlfriend. It's got almost the perfect offer for her as it seems to be very good for its price tag.
I just wanna know : is it possible to install newer Android versions on it ? It is advertised as a Froyo 2.2 phone, but it would be cool to put Gingerbread or even a newer droid version on it.
If yes, is it doable via a simple update on the phone or does it have to be "hacked" or something ?
Thank you very much.
Please ? Anyone ?

Hello nitwo,
For the moment, there is no new version of Android for this cell.
Some people have noticed that the u8350 is sold under the name of "Express from Sprint" with a gingerbread 2.3 version. But sprint is using CDMA and in europe we're using GSM. Maybe a port is possible.
Also, officialy there is no Android 2.3 for this cell, and some websites are reporting that we're never going to see an official 2.3.
Maybe, we're going to have a 2.3 version, but not officially. But, we need to wait for the community ...
Btw, for 45euros in france (with Bouygue cash back), this is a pretty nice phone.
Any news ?
