The rule of CM7 is you don't pester people about CM7 releases and updates. So they'll release it when they feel it's ready.

yay! another 'when will CM7 be available for our phone' thread.... just what we needed after all the others got shut down

Sorry, didn't know. Won't ask again.

To answer your question though, the Atrix CM dev team is hard at work (like, realllly hard) and CM7 for the Atrix is currently in Alpha mode, with the team and some select testers working to find and fix the bugs. It's been in Alpha for about a week now I think, and as I've followed their progress a lot of the really big issues have been ironed out (they have cell service now, which was the big one). Soon, perhaps in a couple days to maybe a week or so (can't guarantee), a beta will be out. Not perfect, but out for release! Soon after that, full and virtually bugless versions will be out, and HOPEFULLY they are allowed to do nightlies as the official CM7 team for the Atrix.

CM7 is in Alpha at the moment. It could be awhile for CM7, but rest assured, it's coming.
Whats so great about CM7? This is my first android phone and see people talking about it all the time.

It turned my slow Aria into a superphone. Incredible support, nightly updates, every feature you could want, very stable. It's how android should be.
I'm looking forward to some cm7 on atrix
Dorian is working on 2.3.5 rom noticed he commented on that in his rom thread
I also noticed the source code was released so hopefully the devs can get it "De-Blured". I would love to run Stock GB. I almost traded my Atrix for a Nexus S until I saw that, now I'm waiting (im)patiently.

Back when they still supported the G1, it kept my old hardware running newer os than some new android phones. Great features and nightly builds. Always up to date and best performance.
Got it on my nook color now haha. Can't wait for it on the atrix.

The future of CM7 on Atrix 4G?

So, now that we have finally received the final cm7 7.2 version, will all future updates stop? Are we going to see a 7.3 in the future? Thanks!
Edit: I just saw that another nightly was released. Changelog is broken...

Devs will still probably find room for improvement on CM7 until ICS officially lands. BTW thank you to all the guys that worked on CM7!
It's mind blowing how much better the Atrix is now on CM7 compared to when our phones originally launched with crippled Froyo. Seriously, thanks guys!...

[Q] Official CM9

Is the OG Atrix ever going to get an official CM9 release candidate or nightly? I've noticed the CM Team has released RC1 for many phones, and the Atrix was not on the list. I just want to know if I will ever get my hands on an official CM9 build instead of having to use a port. Thanks for the help.
Theres gonna be fire. Get a glass of water.....
Pardon? I did not ask for an ETA. I simply asked if we were ever going to get it.

The Atrix will likely not get an official CM9 build until/unless ICS for the Atrix (containing the necessary binary drivers, which are proprietary) is released. The unofficial ports have to make do without them, cannibalizing code and parts from other phones in order to make it work, which is why they still have stability issues (though they do work most of the time). When ICS is released (yes, I said when; unlike others, I have faith that it will be), we'll likely see a flurry of CM9 development from the Atrix Dev Team.
OK cool. I've read that it's gonna be Q3. Which is sometime between now and September, correct?

cm9 update
I recently flashed my first rom with cm9 6.0.9.1. I am very pleased with the look, feel and functionality of this ROM. Congrats to jokersax and all who had a hand in this. As I am new at this I have one question. If I try to upgrade to 0.7.0.0 will I need to wipe or can I just flash it. I installed the gapps separately and did not wipe and it worked fine. I do remember reading somewhere during my search for knowledge on this subject that for small updates you don't need to wipe. Not sure how reliable tha info is. Just want to make sure before I end up with a paper weight.

Hello fellow Androidians! This is the new thread to discuss all things and rumors #JBDX2 before the actual release! This thread will also help to keep the CM9DX2 one on topic. This.
I would safely assume this would help us reach nearly the full benefit of running ICS and possibly JB..
I just wonder if we can start building kernels or if we can only use certain ones once kexec is working fully.

Cant Wait for JB
I personally don't think jumping from CM7 to CM9 to CM10 (JB) is the right way to go about things. DZK is doing it right though IMO. He got CM7 stable enough again, IMO; To move on to CM9. He's been working hard and made what 5 Alphas and now on a Beta? (Don't know much anymore as I am on AT&T Atrix 2 now) But thats dedication and loyalty to the X2 for sure. I know he mentioned of a CM10 and JB but I as well as other and I'm pretty sure DZK mentioned, it will be awhile before it's stable enough to release. Now the Kexecis where it's at...if he can crack that, I may personally have to come and dust the X2 off as I have for the Paranoid Port and AOKP port as well as the Beta CM9. With everything else going on, again my opinion would be to keep anticipating JB and hope everything else gets worked on first to grasp stability on these great ROMs that have already been pushed out. Just my $0.02 on the Topic.

I agree with you. I think we need kexec working first. We are already running ICS on a Gingerbread kernel which isn't ideal, but it works. Running Jelly Bean on a Gingerbread kernel might be worse. But this is all in theory, obviously. Who knows, it could be super smooth. But with kexec working on the DX2, its guaranteed to work right. I really hope dragonzkiller can get it working. Especially before I upgrade to something else. It would be a shame if he got it working after everyone has moved on.
I agree I'd much rather get kexec working and have a fully functional CM9 than a half baked, unstable CM10 due to our locked bootloaders and no work-around(kexec).

Well here's to hoping that the kexec gets sorted out so we can keep up with those higher end phones.

ICS/JB Kernel Port Project

so like every day i check in atrix 4g thread
and finaly
they relese a public alpha kernel
i think its a start for us too
for 3.1 linux kernel

Hope this spills over to us somehow.

The kernel included with 4.1.2 AOKP by th3bill has nearly the same features (except video recording, since we can't use atrix drivers).
I am watching that thread everyday as well. I hope th3bill is actually able and willing to do something about it once the kernel reaches a stable state.

Not so fast. The kernel is known as Alpha Release Candidate 1 (Alpha-RC1). It has only been released from the devs to a select few testers. An official public release has NOT happened.

The Photon and Atrix seem to be extremely similar hardware-wise... what changes would need to be made to the Atrix 3.1 kernel source to make this functional for Photon? From what I can tell, the camera, fingerprint scanner, and radio are the differences...
so...............
Krystian has already stated that he will work on porting the atrix kernel over to the photon once it is stable enough

Hi guys,
I wanted to do that later but it looks like it will take me some more time to finish Olympus kernel. So I decided to start port for Photon. Since I don't own Photon device, I need couple of volunteers who are willing to break their phones. Also I would need someone who would manage bug tracking and possible hardware differences. I can barely track what's going on Atrix threads, so I need someone as a proxy, who would report me how the things are going. I'm looking for someone who can be considered at least advanced user with a lot of spare time. Also regarding potential testers, I'm sure there are different Photon revisions, so it would be the best if there was a one tester for each rev.
Regards,
Krystian

Hi guys, I just got photon second hand and have been doing a lot of reading to find out what the best thing I can do with it is.
Is the current work using the new open source tegra driver?
If that's the case, I would think it would be almost necessary to skip ICS & JB.
