Hey! I was wondering what people's preference for dialers were - I know some of the more popular ones like Dialer One, GO Contacts (I have have GO SMS Pro, so I feel this would have good integration with that), and TAKEphONE. I am going to go try out a few of these now, but I was wondering for people who have had these apps for a while and had prolonged use, which do they prefer/like/dislike? Just in case this matters, I am on a rooted phone with BAMF Sense 3.0 RC4.9 (with whatever kernel it comes with).
Any input would be appreciated - thanks!
Dialer2 is sweet. AOSP style will all the bells and whistles of Sense.
IMO.

I like the ones you can "type" names using the 10 key pad and the dialer guesses the names.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
johnrexb, I also like the ones that you can type the names out!
I believe the dialer apps I mentioned can all do that.
I prefer Go Dialer but since you know that one, another good one is rocket dial.

I just tried dialer2 out and it will only show/allow me to call one number in any contact, so I can't call my wife's work number, I could only get her cell to pull up.

Press and hold on any contact for all options.
And it does support T9 contacts. Start spelling a name and the according contacts will come up.

Finally! Someone made a great dialer app where you can make the phone keys huge. No more fiddling around with dialer one to search for a contact when in the car!
Check out angeldialer... it is super fast and free.. and you can make the buttons huge

Been using this for a while after discovering that the stock dialer did not search contacts using the keys as letters - a la HTC.
Not the best looking dialer but very practical.
Ray Dialer is working well on my Streak. Big buttons, T9, contact photos, fast.
Ray dialer FTW
thanks!

Is there a way to completely disable the stock dialer with any of these? I used one a few weeks ago, and when I hung up the phone call, it was on the stock dialer. If I am forced to still see the stock one, I'll just continue to use it... I hate being on the phone as a phone (hence, i buy one i can text on and use for email and internetting), so it's not a big enough problem to use the stock one.
I know you used to be able to make a different dialer the default, but after 2.1 I'm fairly sure you have to remove the stock one completely if you want to replace it. Don't know how to do that though, will have to look around.
I am interested in this too. I installed some custom dialers and some of them are very nice, but I don't like going back to stock dialer after finishing call...
I guess, you can remove stock dialer with Titanium backup (requires root), but I am not sure if you can do that. I guess, you should not remove it.
Don't uninstall phone.apk. I tried that. Had to restore my phone. It's not a funny, haha problem that you can just restore in titanium from a backup. It cripples your phone.

Are there any replacements for phone.apk? I am assuming this is the phone itself, which occasionally crashes on me. Fortunately while hanging up the call most of the time, but still...
i think phone.apk is built only for ur phone, it handles the antenna and such
I love that app. Thanks krad!

Not Call Log
I tried No Call Log and it didn't work.
It still goes back to the hideous default Streak dialer.

Free version only works for incoming calls. Did you run the app and check the settings? I have mine set to go to the home screen after both incoming and outgoing calls and it works. I have tried other options such as last activity.
Yes, that was it. I used the free version.
I found this:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brosix.callend&feature=related_apps
Combining On Call End and Ray Dialer has made me happy.
donalgodon,
Thanks for sharing the free alternative. The return to the phone app after a call is an Android behavior that should be user selectable.
Thanks for the free app suggestion. It works great have mine setup to go back to home page.

Still not able to find a perfect dialler
Curious to see which one other SGS2 users use...
Get GO Contact. It comes with a dialer and both apps are really good. One thing I'm VERY happy to finally have is a dialer that searches within names whilst I dial a number, not just the beginning of the name.
Alternatively, get an AOSP ROM so you're using the stock Android dialer. It's simple, but still better than the Samsung one.
I use and recommend rocketdial. It had a good t9 engine for smart dials.
Regards.

For me the smart dial feature on the stock dialer was not satisfying (only one predefined number per contact to call). On GO Contact its way better solved than on stock
Stock dialer is a joke. Try to dial by typing numbers to get last name.
I miss Htc sense.

I just love the stock dialer sliding. That's the main reason I switched back to a Touchwiz based ROM from a CM7 Nightly.
Also I love the stock Calendar, Clock, Task Manger on long HomeKey press.
Hmmm..will never like the stock dialler if one has tired sense dialler I guess....
The only thing I still misses from sense...
Thanks for your valuable suggestions, but go dialler is driving me nuts..it never searches on my linked contacts properly...say I have linked my bros FB profile with google contacts...go dialler always searches with the facebook name...in google contacts the name is "bro" and I have set the defaults in contacts also..but go dialler does not give results if I type bro...
Hope I am clear here..stock dialler and dialler one searches properly..so far dialer one is the best for me...but appearance sucks and just feels out of place when ever I open it.
Any trick to solve my problem with go dialler? Pls advice

Guys I've also migrated from sense to the SGSII and I highly recommend trying out Dialer One (it's free) - check out the options when setting it up. It can also T9 search by name, number (and other info) and also in the call log...
Touchpal is by far the best dialers i have used.
Youlu is also nice one.
Hi,
Upgraded to the S3 from a Desire HD, after their shocking decision to drop ICS.
One quick question, on the HTC you touch a contact and it starts dialing. On the S3 it opens the contact and you have to click dial again... This throws me every time!
It there anyway to change this behaviour? I want to be able to just touch the contact either in the contacts list or call logs and the phone to start dialing and not open the contact.
I using stock ICS...
Thanks,
Kiz
set up a few favourites in contacts then open fav tab in contacts I'm sure there's a way to always open favourites instead of contacts tab. anyway then you will see phone icon next to their name one click call.

It's like that for a reason. One thing that throws me about Sense is that it's always wanting to dial someone. What if I want other options??
But, like the poster above said. Swipe right to dial or left to message contact.

You're absolutely right. When using HTC phone, I always accidentally click a contact while scrolling the list of contacts and it start calling the person. Very annoying. This will never happen in Samsung phones

Great, thanks guys.
I've had sense phones now for 3 years, so got used to it! For other options it's a long press.
Honestly, they had me with brand loyality and would've gone for the One X if they didn't drop ICS for DHD.
But, I'm liking the S3 and I live with the swiping!
Cheers,

Hey all.
So the tweaking to get my HTC ONE just right continues...
The latest annoyance is the delivery of visual voicemail. I have the AT&T Visual Voicemail App but it is inconsistent (in terms of updating) and a pain to switch over to it for my voicemail messages. I came over from the iPhone bandwagon and got really spoiled with some of the amenities on that side of the fence - VV integrated into the Dialer is one of them.
Anyone come across a Mod to get the Dialer and a VV integration? The dialer itself is kind of a pain, so I wouldn't mind replacing the whole dialer interface if that's an option.
I am Rooted and Running Android Revolution HD for HTC One.
Thanks in advance.
Its programmed differently so probably not possible with stock launcher. I havent had any problems with the notifications though and have a shortcut for it on my homescreen so really not that big of a deal once ya get used to it.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
don't know if it's going to be possible with stock Sense and the AT&T VVM, however on CM10.1 you can get Google Voice integration into the dialer call log.
i came to the HTC ONE from the iPhone 5 and i also miss the ease of visual voicemail baked in there.

yeah i had some trouble setting up "google voice LITE". it said it couldn't "retrieve forwarding settings" or something. tried multiple times with no luck. finally went to "voicemail number" in call settings and changed it manually to the number google provided.
i THINK it's working okay now. i called it from a friend's phone and did get my GVoicemail box.

This is what I did too, but the problem is Google Voice is not popping notifications when a voicemail is received. My old phone (SGS2) used to do this, I still haven't found a solution.
I just recently tried out att messages. It's not horrible and you can turn off it notifying you of txt messages and still use the stock sms app.

I also came from the iPhone 5 and miss that functionality. You can use YouMail for a pretty darn good substitute.
Anyone know a good contacts and/or dialler app.
I am trying to get one that will let me "copy" a phone number easily from the call list.
Cant get an easy work around in the stock dialler/contacts app. Its a right chew on.
In my job I have to add new customers phone number that have rang me on straight to my Splanner.
Any help thx?
I think Ready Contact List is what you are looking for. Right when you hang up you get many choices including saving the number, calling again, sending a message etc.

Hi, can't copy number .That's what I am looking for sorry.
Using S Pen is not fine?
Move Spen on log number with pen swith keep pressing. You can copy directly.
Try Ex dialer.. been using it for a while

Legend! exactly what i was looking for. (Don`t suppose there is any way to do it without using the pen ie finger?)
It can but require 1 more step
Long press log -menu -send -it will be pasted to messaging field and now you can copy with finger from message field

I like the glossy teme.
But I guess you have seen all the settings.
Alter the way things shall work the best way for you.
I always go that way to send SMS.
So easy to find name or put in numbers and just hit or slide to go directly to write SMS.
So much better to find names and number.
I love the way it find contacts you have used before.
