1. Unplug USB
2. Pull battery
3. Open Odin
4. Plug in USB
5. Hold down both volume keys (do not let go)
6. While still holding both volume keys put battery in (this should put you in download mode), let go of vol keys
7. Unplug USB wait 5 seconds and Plug USB back in, Odin should then see it
8. Flash whatever you were trying to flash with Odin again
The above steps work for me every time, and I do have a hardware locked vibrant.

This is the correct procedure but I cannot get anything I flash to take. I believe this is because the previous ROM had voodoo and I believe it needs to be disabled. What I can't do is find a way to disable it because I cannot access my internal sd card.
How do you access your internal sd card without a functional OS on your phone??

Did you try these steps yet?
Did You Flash Something Before Disabling Voodoo? 2 Fixes to Help You Out.
So you forgot to disable the voodoo lagfix before you flashed a new rom and now you're getting an error, similar to the one posted below. Even Odin won't allow you to flash back to stock. Well, pay close attention and with some luck, you'll be good as rain...or something like that.
Fix 1:
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! BAM!

Remove the battery, select the down volume button while connecting the USB cable. this should get you into downloader mode, (Android with a shovel)
As sad as it is sometimes you just cant get into download nor will your computer see your phone. The only thing you can do is go through tmo tech support and get a replacement phone. This has happened to me a few other ppl

Can you share the name of the zip and where you got it? I just downloaded one from a thread here, but it's named Blur_Version.1.2.148.MB870.Verizon.en.US.zip, and when I go into the About Phone menu on my phone, the System Version is 1.2.148.MB870.Verizon.en.US also. The Android Version is 2.2.2 though.

"patching system files" right now. any idea on how long it takes? Kinda unsure every OTA/update i ever flashed on the NS/N1 was always quick
EDIT: done, first boot right now <3 god how i miss gingerbreadness, even if it is with ****ty UI
Now to wait for a 2.3.3 root method
everybody got the links?
just came online
dam phone is like a new one

Well, I thought I would wait for Moto, but things went south and I couldn't take it anymore. I went with the update that you gave and I've installed it successfully. I guess I'll truly have to wait now until someone talented finally gets root back on this version - not to mention we still have hope for an unlocked bootloader so that some real customization can begin to take place.
Thanks for everything y'all. It looks nice, we'll see how the speed is - not to mention it will be nice just if it stops rebooting on its own.

Samsung Fascinate Root and ICS

Hey, Ive been wanting to get ICS on my Verizon Samsung Fascinate, I'm just really confused and what i need to do to get it on my phone after rooting. I want to use CM7 but i dont know which to use (Nightly/Stable).
All from bhfd64 on the Galaxy Forums
[HOW TO] Root Froyo or Gingerbread on Your Fascinate
Below you'll find the steps to attain root access on your Samsung Fascinate, but keep in mind that along with risking damage to your phone, you'll be voiding your warranty. This guide assumes you've taken the most recent OTA update and are running official Gingerbread. The responsibility for any damage incurred by following this guide is yours and yours alone.
NOTE 1: These instructions are for PC only. They will not work for Mac users.
NOTE 2: These instructions should work for any stock Gingerbread build on the Fascinate.
Downloads:
Download Samsung drivers from HERE.
Download Odin (computer program) from HERE.
Download ClockworkMod Recovery from HERE (place this file somewhere on your computer where you can easily locate it).
Download "su-2.3.6.1.x.zip" file from HERE (place this file on the root of your sdcard...not within any folders).
Instructions:
1. Install Samsung drivers on your computer.
2. Open Odin on your computer. (You may need to disable antivirus programs on your computer and/or phone for this to work properly.)
3. Power off your phone and remove the battery.
4. Plug the stock USB cord that came with your phone into a powered USB port on your computer (usually on the back of the computer).
5. Press and hold the "volume down" button on your phone, and continue to hold it while plugging the USB cord into your phone. This will put your phone into download mode. You'll see a large yellow triangle on the screen of your phone. (Let go of the volume button at this point.) You will also see one of the small boxes in Odin turn yellow, as well as "Added" appearing in the message box.
6. Click the PDA button in Odin (NOT the PHONE button) and navigate to the "CWM3_Voodoo.tar.md5" file you downloaded earlier. This file does not include a voodoo kernel and will not perform the voodoo lagfix conversion. It's only named as such to note that it is compatible with voodoo kernels.
7. Click START. When this process has finished, you'll be notified in Odin (succeeded 1 / failed 0) and your phone's screen will go blank.
8. Unplug your phone and re-insert the battery.
9. Press and hold BOTH volume buttons. While holding them, press the power button. Hold all three simultaneously until you see "SAMSUNG" appear. This will boot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery. If your phone boots up normally here and not into recovery, just wait for it to boot up and then power it down and try again. It may take a couple tries for you to get it right.
10. Using the volume rocker, navigate down to "Install zip from sdcard." Highlight it and press the power button to select.
11. Navigate to "choose zip from sdcard" and select with the power button.
12. Navigate to the "su-2.3.6.1.x.zip" file that you downloaded earlier and select it. Scroll to "Yes," and use power button to select.
13. When you're advised of completion, press the MENU softkey to go back to the previous CWM Recovery screen, then highlight and select "reboot system now."
At this point your phone will reboot and you'll be rooted. Open up your app drawer. You should see an app called "Superuser." If it's there, you're done! Now you can think about possibly moving on to a custom ROM and/or kernel. Instructions for flashing a custom ROM can be found here.
Thanks for any help and sorry for the Questions i read around and couldn't find anything i understood.

Root for M350K Galaxy M Style?

There is no fofum for my phone, does anyone know of a guide on how to get root on the M Style? The universal Samsung root for flashing in stock recovery doesnt work, super one click doesnt work, and xray say my device is immune to the known exploits. Im willing to root the hard way if I have too, just need steps so I dont brick my phone. Must... Delete... Bloat...
Edit- M340K, sorry.
Bump... Anyone know how to root this thing?
One more bump in case anyone else needs this, I found this finally.
http://auv.me/Galaxy-M-Style-SHW-M340K-root-rom
Its a standard Odin flash, all the odin files and pre-rooted rom are linked here. You can flash it as an update and keep everything, no need to wipe. It does install some carrier bloat (so I had two sets of bloat) but its rooted, so you can get rid of all of it.

I just recently rooted my Samsung M Style SHW-M340S phone.
[GUIDE]
1. Download the attachment that I uploaded.
2. Transfer the zip file to the root of your sdcard either by connecting your phone to your computer or wirelessly (Do not unzip the file).
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Go into Recovery Mode by holding down the home button, volume up button, volume down button, and the power button at the same time. Once you see the SAMSUNG logo show up, release the power button and you should see the recovery menu. Select "apply update from sdcard". Use the volume up and down buttons to scroll up and down the menu. Press the home button to select your option.
5. Use the volume up and down buttons and choose the zip file.
6. After the update is complete, choose the option to "reboot system now".
7. After the phone finishes restarting, you now have a rooted phone.
Note: I'm not sure if this will work on a M340K/L phone as I don't have those phones to test out.

I used several methods to root my m340s. but non of them worked.
After following ur proceeedure when i run terminal emulator it shows $ mark. but when i run the code "su" (without quotes) there it was turned to # instead of $ and it allowed to run that code. I think its rooted now.

Guide - Manually updating Dell Venue 8 to 4.3

If you're like me, and your tablet didn't want to update to 4.3, fear not. I have your solution.
Thanks to @xdajunkman for the file required...
01. Connect your tablet to your pc
02. Download the first update zip file from @xdajunkman https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u..._US_user_signed_update_gota_package_32-39.zip
03. Copy the zip file to a microsd card inserted into your tablet ( I also renamed it to update.zip)
04. Press the Volume down + power button simultaneously, to boot into droidboot mode. (you would see the Dell Logo and then the Droidboot screen).
05. Use Volume down to select the third option and press power button to boot into recovery mode.
06. In recovery mode (droid on his back with his belly open), press the Power button + Volume up simultaneously, to display recovery mode menu. (hold them down for a second or two)
07. In recovery mode use Volume down to select update from external storage
08. Select the zip file
09. Wait for it to finish
10. Repeat steps 3-9 with the second update from @xdajunkman's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48958168&postcount=219
10. After it completes press the power button to reboot
11. Enjoy 4.3
It worked for me, Your Mileage may vary.
EDIT:
It appears this will only work if you have one of the tablets that will not take the root exploit.

It may have worked for me because my tablet downloaded the 4.3 update on it's own, but it never applied it.
Ideas?

Possibly a bad Download or are you rooted and messed with build prop at all?

Perhaps the problem is that it appears they may be more than one build of 4.2.2 on this device. Some can root with Cydia, some cannot. Perhaps this update file works for those of us who have a build that can't be rooted. Perhaps there is another update file for other build(s) of 4.2.2 for this device.
Don't know....just thinking....

Zip opens on PC and android so good download. No modify date on build.prof is consistent with the rest of the dates of the build. Donno if there are some other factors that would change but leave the file the same date. Maybe the jdq39 bit has something to do with it. Thats whats in my build.prof I'm holding off for now till I see progress or get the update normally.

I think its like xdajunkman said, some tablets can and can't be rooted so the update might be different for some tablets. The best thing to do for now is wait till the OTA is released.

Mine wouldn't take root, but it took the update with no problems. I definitely think some were patched. I had a small 4.2.2 update applied right when I booted for the first time out of the box. Sucks cuz I root everything I own, but I'll just have to wait I guess.
Anyway, thank y'all for the manual update instructions and zip.

Mine could not be rooted either. It also had a 6 meg update right after initial power up.
That must be the common denominator
I'm glad it helped someone at least.
Here is an idea - this is the update for 4.2.2 that installed once I powered the thing on for the first time:

Try installing this one first, then the 4.3 update. Maybe that will work. Note that using this update might make you unable to root and will break root if you have it already.
