its easier to root 2.1, odin back and just put the update.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 then just boot into recovery, reinstall packages twice then your good to go

Yes its rootable just like the original firmware. I used the update.zip method to root it, never tried the one click version
Yup its possible. I rooted mine using the one click root.

JI6 is rootable. What's J16?
Sent from my Team Whiskey Powered Vibrant
J16 is the OTA update that was sent out over the last couple of weeks to fix a number of problems with the Galaxy S phones...in particular, the problem with the GPS not being able to lock onto satellites or function reliably in general. I have read some threads where a few folks who were rooted and then did the update messed up their phones.

Once you do you'll be happy you did and wonder why it took so long to get to that happy place =)
Easiest way is to download the TGA's One click root/unroot, then install ROM Manager, run Clockwork Recovery in ROM manager to download/install it for the 1st time, download a ROM from the Dev section (I like Bionix Fusion & Eugene's Vibrant Hybrid), and follow the instructions in the ROM's OP (select reboot into recovery yadda yadda yadda)....

Yes. There is an Odin version of 3.8 just for that purpose.

Absolutely, just root your phone, install rommanager/CWM, download the rom of your choice, reboot in recovery and flash away.

Vibrant IS able to flash I9000 ROMS but I THINK all you need to do is flash glitch kernel or something, and then change your key layout.
Theres a guide lurking around here i know it.

I9000 very similar to vibrant so you can flash and run i9000 roms straight up.
Fix keys and flash a vibrant kernel to fix headset mapping and GPS.
Also may need GPS files maybe modem

Aio toolbox works the best. Anyway, don't go for passion, its an old and obsolete rom. Try iczen on the rootzwiki forum, ICS chimera, doc masters, remics, cm9, slim ics, or a jellybean ROM. If you wanna go jellybean, you need to go flash an ICS then the jb ROM or you will be bricked. For jellybean though, try the hellybean or slim bean ROMs.

Your right about passion, I personally like Schimera it's really nice and customizable. Although jellybean is the one that gave me a some-what soft brick. I made a post about it called SD card, yeah that was thanks to the jellybean rom I used. So until an actual stable jelly bean rom comes out I'm gonna try that. Also the passion one was running quite well except the GPS terribly sucked.

The jellybean ROMs are completely stable now. They only soft brick if you didn't wipe data or flashed it from stock.

Weird, I got the problem a day after installing that rom, thinking it was just the rom causing this problem I switched back to earlier roms. Then odin, still not a single fix. :/

Not sure exactly, and in the instructions it never required for a "format system" if you are referring to the option in Mount & Storage > Format System

Well if I would've had to the rom wouldn't probably actually install and just put me in a boot loop. Although the installation was successful.

Sorry in advance but *sigh*. This is the 4th one in a week. The TMo 4g (SGH-T959V) is NOT the same as the Vibrant (SGH-T959) . You need to flash the correct pit and PDA files for your device. They Alsop have their own threads and forums. Just search and you will find them.

I agree. If you ever want a clean install, formatting system is one of the puzzle pieces to do so. Wiping system and data and caches is not the same as formatting them.
Anyone can download the toolbox from my signature. I have it permanently hosted there.
Kool, I am out of thanks for the day but I'll hit you up tomorrow. Too lazy to get my phone out of the other room and use the app.

Most OPs should state this and my ICS install guide definitely states it. Btw those videos that show the ICS and JB installs are not all they are cracked up to be. There are edited and don't include "everything" to properly flash.

Hmm, I never thought about wiping the system, well if you insist I will do that if I get the SD card problem fixed. If not I will buy the Google Nexus S. Thanks for the advice though.

I did but i tryed using that triangle away and it brought me back to the screen where it says unatorized software when I did a reboot and I need that firmware again so I can take it out of that unatorized software thing not unless if you know of a way to do it with out having to re dowload the stock firmware again thanks
Sorry I am new to this device. I was under the impression if you flashed it back to a stock rooted odin then you would have the original firmware and the app should work as advertised. Sorry never used it myself that is why I am curious incase I ever get in your position.
