But only to hold me over until the SGS2 comes from Sprint.
I need a new toy to play with and the Epic on any software bothers me with its problems.
Is this MoPho noticeably quicker than the Epic? I played with store demo for a bit
but still not enough time and thorough to make this judgement for myself =]

Well, I came from the Epic. I thought it was a great phone, but I really love the photon! Blur can be a little laggy going from screen to screen. Use launcher pro and it flies. Mine is unlocked, rooted, and has Alien rom on it, and it's just stupid fast and smooth. Once source is released and we have custom kernels, it will be even better. Battery life has been great for me. Some people have had problems as with any new phone, a fix is to be released soon. I however have not had any of these problems. I also have the dock which is like having another computer. All in all it comes down to personal choice. What works for one does not work for all.
ok cool thanks for the reply. The one at the store was lagging a lil from side scrolling the screens.
ALSO being very new at the phone, In 5 mins of touching the phone I figured out how to page jump by swiping up on the launcher pulls up the seven screens like pinching in does on the epic and htc. Whereas reviews claimed there was no way to bring up the screens in any way.
only thing that bothers me is the screen. i dont think I could get used to that.
there was similar effect going to epic from evo, seeing the pixels. But the Photon is way noticeable on pretty much anything. But then again its just a temporary toy
I came from a Vibrant which is the Tmo galaxy S.
(well, ok, so I had a evo 4g and a evo 3d between....but the Vibrant made those BOTH look like a POS)
I had custom kernel (overstock) and a very nice ROM on the Vibrant (don't recall which).
It was very fast, stupid fast. This Photon keeps up with it and I have had no real problems that I can really think of.
I honestly do not see the MoPhos screen as being lesser than the super AMOled....I seriously do not see any noticable difference.
I also got tired of waiting for the SGS2.
I am getting the photon today as well, actually its already at my house in a box waiting for me to get off work and play with it.
I'm coming from an EVO - i'm overdue for an upgrade

Agree... that's why mine's being shipped here at Work. However, mine isn't arriving until Monday.
Although I like living in CA because of the weather, it also means I have to wait a few days more every time I order a new phone from Sprint.

If you really miss Sense, check out some of the other launchers on the Market like ADW, Launcher Pro, or Go Launcher EX <- my favorite. Many of them have widgets that are very similar to HTC's Sense. If the Sense clock is the thing that does it for you, there are also tons of widgets that replicate that too.

I have had an EVO for over a year now ,but allways kept my touch pro 2 for job international travel.
Now ofcoarse I'm aware of photons gsm roaming with sim.
I'm trying to decide will I miss my flashing ROM addiction on my EVO .I am running energy on my tp2 and MikG on my EVO.
I have navigated through the photon forums and its definitely not as lively as EVO forums.
It could possibly reduce me to a single device ...
Should I or Shouldn't I that is the question?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
well, i'll give you this to ponder, was in the same boat as you, had my evo for a year, year and a half, photon came out, was the only phone that made me upgrade, if i didn't would still have my evo to this day
GSM
I gave my Evo to my daughter when upgrading to the Photon. Used it in the Dominican Republic last week with an Orange GSM card withdrawing no problems. Was nice to switch between networks without having to carry two phones. I also used Skype when on WiFi and the quality was excellent.
I miss being able to mod the phone like I could the Evo but there is a lot more activity on this forumn than a month ago. The Photon is a little better phone than the Evo in my opinion lighter and the screen a little better
Well you won't have a thousand ROM's to flash, but......are those thousand ROM's on the Evo REALLY any different? Or are they just slight differences on the same base?
I used to be addicted to flashing ROMs on my EVO too but honestly haven't missed doing that since I got my photon. The reason I flashed ROMs and kernels on my EVO was to make the battery (and overall performance) better. With this phone, that's not necessary since the battery is amazing!!
If you wanna change the look of your screens then there's always different launchers with themes to choose from.

+1 to this. Went from the WinMo HTC Diamond years ago, to the flagship Sprint Android Hero, to the EVO Shift to the MoPho (just got it yesterday). Becoming a Flashaholic was a way of life, and...as semi-exciting as it was anytime a new base or kernel would drop, flashing 1-2 ROMS a week or so became tedious and distracting.
I rooted the MoPho this morning simply to be able to access the build.prop so I could set the LCD Density where I wanted it (200), adjust the VM Heap (64m) and run a few scripts, along w/ convenience apps like reboot, screen off and button remapping. At this point, I'm more than happy to sit back and let the experienced devs do their thing as this phone comes into its own, and it just feels good to not HAVE to tweak the hell out of the phone just to get it to behave like a phone.
That's what I needed to hear...

I have looked through their forum quite a bit and I was not impressed I just find myself missing my old Evo for screen size ...yes I k ow its the " same" but the old Evo was wider .....
Don't get me wrong the devs here are amazing virus and the others have done some amazing work. I just hope HTC sucks it up and converts to the super amoled screen at some point ... Our screen is really nice but still I really love the black blacks of the super amoled.
Also bigger screen size HTC!

development, at least for sprint, epic touch vs evo 3d .. will probably continue to stay more heavily evo 3d ..
especially with rumors sprint will carry the next google phone ...
Not a chance. After having messed around with quite a few devices, I'd much rather have my EVO 3D.
The EVO 3D is much better.......by the way I love watching 3d movies on my phone.

The only thing I wish my Evo had was a bettter camera. Without me fiddling with it. I still think its great but crippled with some weak software. Other than that no, the Evo is a flagship phone for Sprint and will get updates from HTC. The OG Evo got froyo and gingerbread and I expect ICS and whatever is next for our 3d.

So what do you guys think of the photon you happy with it? Been thinking at some point about tryin the phone out in the near future.. I know the layout isn't like sense like the Evo or Evo 3D.. Always been curious about the photon.. I noticed the dev support isn't poppin like the other bunch of phones that are out.
Would be nice to see more roms out for it
I'm more than happy with it. It's an awesome phone. We may not have as many roms as some phones, but the ones we do have are quality, and our devs are awesome. I had an evo and a nexus s before this and have used my husband's galaxy s2, and the photon is hands down my favorite.

Coming from my old Hero, this thing is amazing in every way, and I still feel like with all the patchwork ICS roms that we're just scratching the surface.
My only complaint is the size of the phone. Don't get me wrong, having this big of a display is more than a fair trade off, but I'm a big guy with hands big enough to palm a basketball, and it takes a lot of effort on my part to go from the bottom right corner to the top left corner with my thumb without readjusting my grip on the phone.

My personal experience has been less than satisfying.
It's a horrible phone to root and unlock. When i first tried to root and unlock it (coming from a HTC Arrive running Mango, and a CM7 EVO 4G before that) it was such an undertaking.
Ended up breaking the radio.
Just flashed my phone again today, and the radio's are dead. As a 17 year old male, my connection to the news, friends, and internet is now dead. Bring on the withdrawls..
two different phone, the same problem...
Well the best thing about having a father thats regional manager for Sprint is free phones...

I made it blue the rest of the rom is themed just didn't throw all the pics in lol.
The statusbar is colored blue with a background I added to it..
I can make it transparent but didn't want to at the time... Same for the rosie at the bottom it's semi trans parent..
Statusbar looks great clear just the problem is some backgrounds can make the text hard to see unless you change the text color..
I always liked the look of the photon layout . Is the stock rom always white at the bottom or can you change that look on it? Never seen anyone ask that before..
One thing I can do for everyone is make custom wallpaper
Easily the best device I've owned.
Just wondering what phone everybody came to the S3 from? There seems to be a lot of people from the Epic 4G.
If you came from the touch, what made you switch? I find it very similar.
OG Epic. I've never gotten a phone on release day tho, kinda weird.
Motorola Photon. It wasn't a very nice phone and had a lack of Devs and Themers. Learned how to theme because of that phone, so I have to give it some respect.
I just came from a Sanyo Katana eclipse...but that was technically a temp phone. Before I use to have an HTC Evolution Shift. Its a great transition from a small screen!
