When I hook my Atrix up to my desktop computer via tethering I can go to some websites , but others it errors out saying it cant find the webpage. Is there a setting I need to change or can somebody let me know if they are experiencing the same problem?

Hey guys, been away on holidays for about a week, while our little family was away i planned on using my gtab to access facebook and some of the facebook apps i use (and no im not playing mafia wars ). I was not able to do this, ill explain and hope someone may be able to help me sort this out for next time.
To start with i tethered my gtab to my android phone, this worked great for internet access, it wasn't till i tried to access facebook on my gtab as per normal that i ran into trouble.
Now to point out i run facebook normally on my gtab using my home wireless network ok. But as i was using my phone to tether and provide internet access to the gtab, it didnt work out as i planned.
Instead facebook would not load on my gtab, it simply would not fully load, so i tried using the facebook mobile app, this worked the first time i used it while being tethered to my android phone, but it meant i was not able to access other facebook apps, as they r not available in the facebook mobile version, also to top it off, the mobile version only worked once, and would not fully load again from that point on.
Now lucky for me, my wife brought her win7 laptop along on our holiday, so i was able to tether her laptop with my android phone, and to make it more interesting, i was fully able to access facebook and the apps i needed through her windows based laptop.
So what i took from this was as long as my gtab is tethered to a mobile phone for internet access, it acted like a mobile phone and required the use of the facebook mobile phone version instead of the full browser based version.
I need to be able to use the full browser version of facebook to be able to use other apps provided by facebook, so im hoping someone knows how i can configure either my phone or the gtab so i can overcome this issue, any help please ?
What app are you using to tether? Is it the standard 3g hotspots or are you rooted and running something else?
have you changed the user agent to desktop on your Gtab? if not go to settings of your browser and do so.
Thanks guys for the replies.
Im using the default phones tether option under
wireless & networks.
Tethering & portable hotspots
portable wifi hotspot
Ive also tried to find this desktop setting in the browser, but i must be blind, i cant see it anywhere. Im using the default browser that cames with Vegantab 5.1.1
"about:debug" in the browser url window. Settings and scroll to the very bottom. You have to set it every time you reboot
Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction, once i knew about the desktop setting for the browser, i was able to do a bit of reseach and found out that you can set this permanently in Dolphin HD. So thanks to you guys im now able to do what i need to, thanks heaps.
I have full 3G signal on my Samsung Galaxy S2, and I can easily use the browser on the phone to browse, as well as I am connected to Skype.
However the hotspot I am creating does not work for my laptop.
- My computer is connecting and gets an ip
- The android phone is still working
- I can create Open network or WPA2 PSK, yet none do any difference
- Even if I receive an ip address on the laptop, it still wont let me browse. It wont even let me browse on ip's, so its not even a DNS error.
I am out of options at the moment and I cant figure out what to do from here. I cant seem to find any solution anywhere, so XDA is my best hope.
And I even tested this from 2 different computers. One running Win XP another Win 7. None of them were able to connect (past) the hotspot.

There's some weird behavior on the native hotspot function. Are you using WPA2 encryption? Does it work with no encryption? (this is typical)
I read somewhere if you are using WPA2 encryption, and use an 8 digit password (must be digits - no letters, and has to be 8 long, exactly), then it will work.
did it ever work before? Is it possible that your carrier blocks tethering? Does usb tethering work?
It did not work with: no encryption either
However I will try now to see if it will work with WPA2 and 8 digits only.
Do you know of any app that allows me to fine tune the hotspot settings on the phone? I want to select more options than the two it gives me at the moment.
EDIT: Haha this is so insanely stupid. I am talking to Orange UK at the moment and apparently they have BLOCKED tethering!!! I am already paying for a 500MB package on my subscription but this does not include tethering. I have to pay another 4£ for 500MB which will be specifically for tethering. WTF! They are selling the same product twice????
EDIT 2: They are telling me that this is an Android block installed by Orange. Question is how I can get around this and use my existing 500MB. Does anyone know how this can be solved?

Yeah, lots of carriers do this stupidity. Just root and install wireless tether for root users.

I cannot connect to a single wifi network. Home/work/anywhere, I've read where you can enable the secret menu and do some trickery through the phone but I have the Verizon Note 2 and you can't just dial a number and get to the secret menu.
Once I did try and download this zip file with some wifi files in it that I had to overwrite on the system partition using ES file explorer (found an article covering this exact problem) but this did not fix my problem.
not to mention i've done a pure 100% factory restore to 4.1.1. to no avail. ran custom roms. no avail. Its getting very frustrating. I am unlimited so I care less than others, but some of my apps are used over the network ie: unified remote for my computer hooked to my bigscreen.
When I use a rom, it just tries to connect for one instance then doesnt do anything. on the factory image it will say authentication error every time.
I've gotten my phone to connect to my home wifi ONCE and it was very crappy connection, would lag while using the cursor on the bigscreen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm very familiar with following directions and rooting/romming or even some adb commands. Let me know if there is anything I can do to remedy this situation. Thanks!!!!

Why is Samsung not fixing this issue?
after doing some more research everything i've found points at the problem being Wireless N.
I havent had a chance to test it out on my own yet as I am still at work but That is fine, I can change my wifi at home to G and be ok with that, but in the end that means I will not be able to connect to work/public places ever as long as they are wireless N.
Come on get with the program Sammy!!!!

Hey guys i have been trying to figure out how to use this wifi streaming and copy thing for the past month but cant really get anywhere....
ALL i want to do is access my windows shared folder from my phone and play movies or even copy them...and maybe send my phone files to pc without usb via directly WIFI
but the many tutorials are always referring to use a router which i dont have
all i have is a laptop with wifi bluetooth and my htc one x
SO my question is if i can enable the wifi to turn into hotspot why cant i use that same wifi to create a Wireless LAN for my hox to connect???
i know android doesnt support Ad-hoc yet but there is a way to create a LAN via access point right??
SO far i used connectify to create a Wireless LAN then use ES file manager to get access to my shared folder....but its sooo slow and when i open a media file it says server time out
so how exactly is the wifi supposed to be used as a substitute to USB??
Please guys any help is appreciated
Hi folks i hope you can help,
Lately when i'm trying to access the internet on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) it keeps going to a blank web page and tells me that its unavailable because my phone is tethering. The problem is its not and hasn't been tethered to anything since i got it new. I've tried looking through the phone and tried numerous searches but i cant find anything i think would help me.
Has anybody else had this problem that could point me in the right direction ?
Thanks in advance folks
Wullie.
What have you tried?
You could do things like:
- Switch to airplane mode and back
- Enable tether and disable
- Reconfigure your wifi settings
- Reboot
