FIXED: check out post #17
I didn't think posting this in each GB Rom thread and kernel thread would be appropriate so I'm starting here. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Okay......After doing countless and wasted hours of searching and coming up empty handed, why is it that only a few of us are having the WIFI issue on the Gingerbread ROMs? It doesn't matter which ROM I use as soon as the screen cuts off, BAM, no WIFI or 3G data. And yes WIFI sleep policy is set to never and I've tried turning on Better WIFI performance and I've even tried every kernal out there, nothing works. FROYO ROMs are working fine so it's got to be either the Gingerbread ROMs or the Kernels.
Either way I'm okay with the issue not working (yet) and I understand that HTC hasn't released the source for the GB Kernel yet. All I would like is some clarification from the people that build these ROMs and Kernels that the WIFI is not working yet. I understand if you're in a 4G area, after all 4G is much faster than the WIFI anyway but for those of us not in a 4G area yet WIFI is king when at home or at work. So if the developers are using 4G constantly I understand the WIFI neglect, but I really don't think it's the developers. These guys are too smart to let something like that slide by! Can someone shed some light on the issue? Thanks again in advance!
This is not an issue with the leaked GB roms themselves or the latest kernels, because the wifi is working great for most people.
It is going to be helpful if you list which rom, kernel, and radio you are using. I did have a similar problem one time, my wifi was going to sleep when the screen turned off and went idle.
It had been working fine but I tried to take a shortcut and reflash the rom without wiping data because it was the same rom. After attempting that which was a bad idea but more of an experiment/learning session for me, I had exactly the problem that you stated.
After wiping my phone properly and flashing the rom, the problem was gone.
I have been running BAMF sence 3.0 with the MR2 radio. I tried MR2.5 and had some different small issues, MR2 has been working Great. Currently with BAMF 3.0 RC 3, the MR2 rom and the latest dreamKernel, everything is running perfectly, at least everything I use or thought of using.
The background data is extremely important for me because I communicate exclusively with my girlfriends using IM services such as gtalk with Trillian. So I wouldn't be able to run gingerbread if it wasn't working REALLY good.
Here's the thread that I use often as a resource. It discusses some issues similar to what you are dealing with, and is update very regularly
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086518
I'm having an identical issue to the OP. Running BAMF GingerREMIX 2.1, Imoseyon's 3.3.8GBTest+ , MR2 radio.
Wifi just disconnects when screen is off. When I turn the screen on, i can see the wifi indicator is all black (similar to no bars). Once it's on for a second or two, it lights up again, and I get whatever notifications I missed due to no data(email, etc).
Ive done the 3x data, cache, and dalvik wipe before flashing the ROM and before flashing the Kernel. It's absolutely DESTROYING my battery life. Since noticing the problem, i've re-wiped and re-flashed everything, didn't help.
Thanks for the response...I'm stumped then because I have tried every combination of kernal/ROM that is available out of the Gingerbread leaks. I recently last night tried BAMF Sense 3.0 RC3 and GINGERTH3ORY V4.5.1 and BAMF 2.1 Remix again along with both MR2 and MR2.5 radios. Nothing worked so I went back to the reliable Perfect Storm 1.5 ROM and left my radio at MR2.5
Any suggestions? Thanks for the help!

I'm having no issues with gingeritis 1.0 (Not the 3D Alpha), and lean kernel 3.4.0. Did you try those?

I did try the gingeritis 1.0 3D with dreamkernel but not lean. Maybe I'll give that a shot this evening but I'm not holding my breath...lol I've tried almost everything and known combinations that are working for others and all the wipes I can muster, nothing is working.
Okay I've been trying Gingeritis 1.0 3d with the lean kernel for a few hours hours now. When my screen turns off I will receive emails for a few minutes but then I stop receiving them until I wake the the phone up. Once i wake the phone up i start receiving messages likevi just turned it on from a good nights sleep. Does anyone know what's going on?

I've actually had this problem also ever since i moved to the Gingerbread. When the screen turns off and i turn it back off after awhile, the WiFi seems like it was sleeping the entire time. I get all my notifications when i turn the screen back on. And i do believe this has been killing my battery life a bit. I have wiped before i flashed. I tried it with the original GB radio/MR2/MR2.5. I've flash different kernels. Wifi sleep is set to never.
Note: I tried running an app such as Pandora on while the screen was off and only in situations like this the WiFi doesn't have the problem.
tethering is ****ed up as well in gb, screen off, no tether, screen on and everything is okay. personally i think that something is ****ed up at the kernel, i switched back to froyo and problems went away.
For the record.....if I set wifi sleep policy to never when plugged in I still receive notifications instantly but it's through 3G because when I wake the phone 3g is active instead of wifi.

This is something I've brought up before too, but nobody addresses it because there probably isn't an answer about a whether it's the kernel or rom. I've just come to terms that I can't use wifi. For those who are suggesting we didn't clear data appropriately, that's not the issue. Most of us who have this wifi problem have been determined enough to try multiple clean installs to get to the bottom of this issue.

Shall I throw another quirk into our problem?............... I flashed CM7.1 RC1 early this morning. This is the best ROM I've put on my TBolt yet. WIFI seems to be working flawlessly except for right after the initial install it wouldn't download anything, through browser or even open the market. After a reboot, I'm going strong. I am receiving messages and data when phone's screen is off. I'm beginning to think that it might be a Sense 3.0 problem....any thoughts from the peanut gallery?
The problem with GB is that it is not official. The ROM is not final (or has been ported from a different phone), kernel is not final, and neither is the radio. We shouldn't be surprised that a lot of features don't work properly. Now cyanogen do their own Roms and kernels basically from scratch, and maybe that is why it's working. GB was fun to have, but i just switched to Froyo for faster 4g speeds, ability to tether properly and better battery life. I'll wait for the proper GB before switching again.
Yeah not Gingeritis 3d but the normal version.... I've noticed also that it seems settings don't change, Like I have turned off Haptic feedback yet still get it when i type on the keyboard, and still get weather sounds with the sounds turned off. This is every time I flash even with 5 wipes. Settings don't seem to stick.

For the keyboard not turning off haptic feedback, you have to go to the settings in the keyboard to disable it. Settings->Language and Keyboard->Touch Input->Text Input->Uncheck Vibrate While Typing.
WI FI Alternative
And I thought I was the only one having problems with wifi tether on gingeritis 3D. I posted a question in a different forum but no one answered me. So after trying different versions of wireless tether I found one that is working perfectly for me. It is wireless tether v2.0.5. I've been using it for 2 days with no issues and phone screen doesn't have to be on. Now, this may not work for everybody, like I said I tried different versions until I found the right one.
Here is the link: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
I hope this helps some of you.
Okay.......!!!!!!!! Thanks to the folks over at theMikMik.com (akaGingeritis ROMs) forums I now have working WiFi with the Gingeritis ROMs. Just download Advanced WiFi Lock from the Marketplace and set it up and you're good to go! Now that wasn't hard was it guys/gals? I've been looking for an answer for so long I can't even remember when I started....oh wait it was the first day that Gingerbread were available by these great developers!!!! Sorry, I didn't mean to vent, I'm not mad just very excited that now I can enjoy these Gingerbread ROMs. So everyone else that's having problems with the WiFi staying connected, download Advanced WiFi Lock from the Marketplace and get your Ginger on!
So is that the free version, or the paid version? You're finding that your WiFi now says connected even if the phone is sleeping? To do some more testing, I fully charged my phone, turned on my WiFi, and connected to my home wireless for 5 hours, just let the phone sit. Used 50% of my battery. Next day, same thing, but had WiFi off, 4g on. 5 hours later, used 15% of battery. Pretty sucky that I can't use my TB on my own home network.

I'm using the free version as the paid doesn't offer any extra features I needed. I left my phone connected to WiFi all night idle, about 7.5 hours, and only used 13% of battery and received all messages. I can't test on 4G so please provide feedback for others.

Not so lucky. Downloaded and installed advanced WiFi lock. Connected to my home wireless and see the same exact results. WiFi just sucking battery. Still draining at about 10% an hour on WiFi and about 3% an hour on 4g. I'm so confused over this, how is WiFi draining battery more than 4g? Phone isn't even usable on WiFi. Checking battery usage stats as noticed that the phone is constantly awake when WiFi is on.

What are the major issues with CM7 on the Touchpad?
Well, its an alpha port, meaning not everything is gonna work.
First of all, its not stable, some apps WILL crash, wifi settings sometimes will fail to work, fluctuating your signal. Almost every popular app seems to work now, netflix, facebook, gmail, youtube works alright, the quality of the videos is not that good but bearable. Sometimes random SoD (sleep of death) occur putting your table into a semi perm sleep stage, and you have to press the power button and home button and hold them for 20 seconds or so.
Overall, its 6/10 of what it can be. don't expect 2.3 to work as good as your phone.
The main problems for me are:
Incompatible apps, either from the resolution and screen size, or not landscape optimized.
No VOIP integration.
Video does not play, either from youtube or flash, it shows lines and other static.

The wife and I have had virtually no major problems. The biggest one was not being able to connect to wifi outside of home but that seems to be fixed with a post I found here. Otherwise its small things, occasional app crashes, the odd app that wont run. Its no different than just about any custom rom on a phone (and I have seen many). Once in a blue moon ill get a random freeze/reboot. Never had the sod problem, Netflix, YouTube, flash videos all run like butter, I can stream anything I want, really, the TP has taken over as my main home device

Thanks for the replies. I bought my TP with the intention to install Android on it. Ive been waiting for a stable release, with ICS out it will probably be another 2 mths.
The main issue ive read about is the WiFi, which is pretty critical for what I use the TP for. Why do some people have the issue and others dont? Is there something that can be done to lessen the issue?

I turned off the setting that allows the wifi to turn off when the tablet goes to sleep. I also used the SOD fix just in case as well after I installed Alpha 2. That seems to do a good job keeping it connected.
Another thing I had to do was use my wireless G signal instead of my wireless N signal (I have dual band). On wireless N, I was getting a very weak signal but with wireless G the signal was very strong. Using WebOS, the wireless N was as strong as the G so I have to assume there is something weird with CM7 for this.
My only main issue is with wi-to. It's very sporatic and frustrating. Is anyone aware of a fix? Other than, just typical issues nothing critical. It's a surprisingly stable Alpha other than that. Facebook also doesn't work for me, but not a large issue.
My major issue is that I can't connect to my work's wifi with enterprise level encryption. I once got it to connect, but webpages would only load sometimes. On my home wifi, I have no issues connecting.
The other issues I've seen are that I woke up this morning, and my Touchpad was off instead of asleep. The battery wasn't dead or anything, and it turned back on fine. When I loaded Angry Birds, it crashed twice, but the third time it worked perfectly.

Zipaligning and fixing permissions in ROM Toolbox helped a ton with crashes and FC's.

What SOD fix?
Every time I want to shutdown my TP in CM7 it gets restarted instead, and there was one time I got nut and forced shutdown it when it was booting and the system crashed. I had to uninstall and install everything which wasted my whole night in that day.....

I've run many custom ROMs on my Incredible and on my Eris, without app issues like this. The eris has a lot of apps that don't run well, but I can assure you this is not a custom ROM issue. I have yet to see an app that won't run on my incredible with custom ROMS.
BTW the wifi seems to work better for me at least with alpha 3. Before flashing alpha 3 my wifi was completely non-working, it would crash when I went into wifi settings.
I need my youtube and its not working properly on alpha 2 or 3. Once thats fixed I'm good on cm7.
But I"m still waiting for some one to do honeycombo or ICS
Okay has anyone who followed the instructions of installing 2.0+ had any wifi issues. I was on eclipse 1.3 so I sbfed to 2.3.4 installed the 2.3.5 update (412) then zergrush rooted and bootstrap installed 2.0.2. Now my wifi times out randomly. I've tried changing the wifi timeout policy and restarting the router. I re sbfed and tried again redownloading each update. And still nothing. The problem seems to lie in 2.3.5 (412) update. I tried just using stock in between updates and it also had the issue. I also wiped data cache and dalvik inbetween each step.

Unfortunately, I've never had a problem with Wifi... and I use that about 75% of the time on my phone. I'm running Eclipse 2.0.2 and I did it exactly how you said you did it. SBF 2.3.4, update 2.3.5, root and BSR. Clear caches and flash. Maybe it's hardware or a bad connection, because the only time I time out with wifi is if I sometimes get low signal.

I've been having this issue since 2.3.4 so after doing everything you described that didn't fix it for me either. I think mine is a hardware issue and not software related because it doesn't happen nearly as often as you describe it, and I know it doesn't have anything to do with the router since my other phone doesn't have this issue. Let me know if you figure it out.
I only see this issue when I use 2.3.5. It's not an eclipse issue, it's an issue with 2.3.5.
Some have stated that build 413 of 2.3.5 is the culprit. Well, I'm using build 412 and seeing the issue and I'm not the only one.
The problem with 2.3.5 is, they are not official updates from Verizon. Therefore, I'm going back to 2.3.4 and using the Liberty3 ROM where I had no issues at all.
I know it's the 2.3.5 because I've sbf'd back to 2.3.4 and then upgraded to 2.3.5 four times since last night and every time, when I tested with 2.3.4 first, no wifi issues. As soon as I upgraded to 2.3.5 and wiped everything, WiFi would cut out and restart itself every couple of minutes, even when I wasn't doing anything. I just sat there for 30 minutes and observed my WiFi cutting out and re-establishing itself. I even rebooted my cable modem and reset my router to no avail.
I cannot get the 413 build. I tried downloading the "fake" mp3 file in the cheesecake thread, but every time I try to unzip it after renaming it, it says there was an error attempt to read the compression method. So, either it's corrupted or else, they are using some other zip utility I don't know of. I tried using both WinZip and 7-zip. Neither works.
So, I'm going back to 2.3.4 and Liberty3 which worked darn well for me and it's a shame. I really liked the latest Eclipse, but since it's using a buggy build, I'm going back to 2.3.4 which seems stable.
I don't know why some people have the problems and others don't on the 2.3.5 build. But I sbfed to 2.3.4 and put eclipse 1.3 back on and no problems. I hope for an official 2.3.5 or higher soon and hope nitro will continue to dev on the x2.

Wifi here also
I been running Eclipse 1.3 for awhile now and I only have wifi issues when screen goes to sleep regardless of the wifi sleep settings. If I set screen to not sleep it will stay connected for my large gameloft downloads. With 2.0.2 Like one of the other posts I lose connection after about 150mb no matter what. I think it is a 2.3.5 issue combined with the droid X2 having small wifi issues to begin with. on 2.2 AES encryption would lock up my router. They fixed that on 2.3.4 for the most part but ocasionally it still locks up router when screen sleeps.

This is definitely a 2.3.5 issue because I have the exact same problem whether it's in Eclipse or in stock.
2.3.4 is just fine...no WiFi issues. Once I apply the 2.3.5 update (regardless of whether it's build .409, .412 or .413), WiFi doesn't work.
It's also not dependent on the amount you've downloaded. It's a time issue. It appears to be cutting out every 2 to 3 minutes, regardless of whether or not you are downloading over the WiFi. I sat for 30 minutes and observed the WiFi cutting out. I didn't do anything (no surfing, no games, no getting email, turned of synching, etc) and I would see the WiFi restarting itself every 2 to 3 minutes.
But, this only affects some people, not all, which maybe points to a hardware issue possibly? This is probably also why 2.3.5 is not an official update from Verizon and hasn't been released.
2.3.4, as far as I know, is the latest official build for the X2.

Well, after fighting with this all weekend, and probably activating my phone at least 15 times (awaiting the dreaded phone call from Verizon wanting to know why I did that), I've finally concluded that my phone just doesn't like 2.3.5 which prevents me from using Eclipse 2.0.
I tried every conceivable combination of Mash-up, Zeps V6 scripts, Cheesecake versions of 2.3.5 and nothing fixed the WiFi issue. Only running under 2.3.4 solves my problem, which means using Eclipse 1.3.
I really liked what Eclipse 2.0.2 offered, but until I can get 2.3.5 to work nice with my phone and WiFi, I just can't run it. Bummer! I love what Nitro has done with it and I really want to run it. Hopefully, either myself or someone else can figured out the issue. I'm really beginning to think it's hardware related, but I still don't see what the difference between 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 is that would cause such an issue and also only affect certain people.
UPDATE: Okay, I'm going to the next extreme. I'm going to SBF my phone back to 2.2.2, reactivate it, sbf to 2.3.3, activate it, sbf to 2.3.4 and then upgrade to 2.3.5 build 412 and see what happens. I don't know if this will work, but some have stated it's cleared up other problems they've had in the past, not necessarily the WiFi issue I and others are experiencing. Then, I'm going to go to Panera for lunch and test out WiFi there. If that works, then when I get home, I'll try it there. If it doesn't, then it's either my router or my cable provider, but it still doesn't make sense that 2.3.4 works fine, but not 2.3.5.
Okay, I hooked up my X2 2.3.5 droid to the WiFi at a local Burger King. MAN it was SLOW!!!!!
But, I left it hooked up for ten minutes downloading and it never failed.
So, I go home, hook up to my WiFi at home and it fails within 2 minutes.
So now I'm beginning to wonder if it IS my router?
Again, my router is a Belkin N600 DB wireless router. It has the following protocols:
EN, Fast EN, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11n
It's currently set up as follows:
2.4 Ghz:
Wireless Channel: Auto
Extension Channel: 4
Wireless Mode: 802.11b & 802.11g & 802.11n
Bandwidth: 20/40 MHz
Protected Mode: On
802.11e/WMM QoS: On
Security Mode: WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK)
Authentication: WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK
Encryption Technique: AES
5 Ghz:
Wireless Channel: Auto
Extension Channel: 40
Wireless Mode: 802.11a & 802.11n
Bandwidth: 20 MHz
Protected Mode: On
802.11e/WMM QoS: On
Security Mode: WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK)
Authentication: WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK
Encryption Technique: AES
I'm not sure if maybe it's something to do with one of the protocols? I'm connecting to the 2.4 GHz channel.
Any ideas out there?
Try TKIP instead of AES, that helped when I was on 2.3.3 Its not as secure but still good. Mine still messes up with all security off on 2.3.5, I have not tried another router yet though.
Try turning off QoS. Also, could try setting the router to just use wireless n and see if that makes a difference. If it does, downside is, if you have any wireless g or b devices, they won't work. Still, if things change, it would at least point to the source of your troubles.

I think your tip has worked, although whatever is going on now, speed is awful. It used to be blazing fast, but now, it's slower than what it's been.
In any case, at least my WiFi isn't cutting out, but I'm wondering if it's either my router or my phone? The router is new and it's not causing issues with any other devices that connect, so now I'm beginning to wonder if it's my phone?
But thanks for the QoS tip. I THOUGHT I had tried that before, but maybe not.
Well, hopefully it will keep working for you. I'm not really sure what to tell you about which is causing the problem. Probably a combination of the two. Also, with QoS on, it could be related to another device you have connected to the router. Some device demanding too much bandwidth and QoS saying ok, here ya go. In the mean time, you lose your connection on the phone. Have a look in your router settings and see how QoS is set up. I'm not sure how much control you have over it in your specific router but perhaps you can set some rules for it as to what takes priority over what. Or, if you don't have any problems with any applications on any computers or whatever else you have connected to the router, just leave it turned off.
I don't know a whole lot about it. I've done some reading about it and messed with it now and then on other people's computers (I'm kind of the local go to guy for computer problems I guess ) but I just kind of bumble my way through it until I get it figured out. That's about the extent of what I can tell you about it.

Well, I finally figured out the problem. It wasn't QoS, it wasn't 2.3.5, it was the darned router! It was going bad!
I was uploading files to my box.net account from my Droid and the WiFi connection kept dropping and reconnecting.
However, it wasn't just the WiFi connection to my droid. I was also watching a movie on my internet connected blu-ray player. Every time the WiFi dropped for the droid, I saw on my TV screen a network lost icon coming from the blu-ray player.
After about 3 or 4 drops, all of a sudden, I had NO internet connectivity with ANY device. When I checked the router, the normally blue-colored power light was a very faint purple. I rebooted, reset and tried everything, but the router never came back on.
So, apparently, my router was dying, but I didn't know it until it finally died tonight. Crap Belkin products! It only lasted a three months, if that.
So, I decided to go back to what I had before: a NetGear router. I got one that was on sale for $97 at HHGregg (normally $130), so hopefully, this should last longer.
Oh, and my speeds are blazing fast once again, so that should have been another sign that something was amiss.
Oh dear, I hope that's not what's happening to me. I have a Belkin N750 DB and I'm having these issues, keeps disconnecting every couple of minutes. I will try changing Qos but if that's not it then I'm gonna take it back to Target and tell them I want store credit so I can get another router haha

I've had the same issue with mine but taking my phone off the network fixes all the other connection with other devices, I usually have to reboot the router but works fine till I hook up the phone again. My router hasn't had a update for a year our 2 so I think its a combination of router and phone incompatibility. I have no issues with any other devices till my phone locks it up. I think the phone is the problem myself but need to check with other router first to verify. I think some routers may handle the phone issue better than others but think there is still an issue.

Well, it's been two days with the new router and so far, no issues. The new router appears to be working flawlessly and without any dropping of connections.
As for the old Belkin, I did try it again but no go. It's dead. Won't power up any more. And before it died, I did check to see if the latest firmware was applied and it was.
Well, from now on, I'll avoid Belkin because I had read a lot of reviews of the particular model I had where it died within one to three months. Mine was three months, almost on the dime.
Hi Guys,
i come from the Moto Stock Rom and have flashed Neutrino 2.6EE few days ago.
Now i've got a little issue with the Wifi Connection.
When I unlock the phone and a known wifi (home and work) is in reach, it takes about one minute until the connection is established.
With the stock rom ist takes only a couple of seconds.
When i go into the wifi settings while waiting, the connection will be established immediately.
Does anyone know a solution?
European Atrix
Wifi-Standby: off when display is off
Rom: Neutrino 2.6EE
Baseband: N_01.100.00R
I also have this issue with every CM7 ROM. I believe it is a bug present in all CM7 based ROM. Flashing a new radio or reflashing your old one may fix this issue, but I haven't tried it because I cannot find a working link to the N_01.77.30p radio for a backup in case of failure in the flashing of a more recent one. If anyone could provide a CWM flashable N_01.77.30p radio I could begin testing to fix this problem.

Me too, I used to experience the same problem with older versions of the Neutrino ROM but this new version is working flawlessly. Only one thing, when the screen is off for about 15-20minutes the wifi connection is lost so I keep a wifi settings icon handy on the desktop, but I noticed this issue on the CM7 roms too so it should be a bug there. On CM9 roms the wifi stays on during the whole time maybe try a cm9 rom?
Some reason when I click the download link nothing happens, if you could directly link the file that would be great.

This has been discussed many times.
This is either a hardware fault or a CM7 bug. Therefore, I cannot fix it as Neutrino builds are based on CM7, and obviously, if it is a hardware issue, then there's nothing I can do at all.
For now, just pray that CM7 magically fixes it.
I am sorry, I mean no offense to your development, and since my previous post is incorrect or misinformed I am very sorry, and I will change my previous post to reflect this new information. Neutrino is an awesome ROM by the way.

I will try a CM9 ROM to see if that fixes the issue. But I will not be able to flash for awhile since I am on a business trip. If someone else could try it out and report findings that would be great.

I'm on Jokerz version 0.3ish and turning on wifi gives me an error report followed by random reboots. The problem did not originate with this ROM and I've flashed a handful of different ROMs with no fix.
I got smoked by Windows just for the free phone so I can sell it.

So we have all this hardware problem?
Because I have the same issue with my Stock Rom 2.3.4.
What is your advice?Bring it to Motorola Support or wait in this "magical fix"?
This is most likely a hardware issue.
For the latest news regarding the issue check out this thread:

If you are having this problem please post!

With the original rom version (45.31.1.MB860.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU) that was on my phone, the Wifi connection was established much faster.
The second thing is, when I went into the wifi settings while waiting, the connection will be established immediately. It turns from searching to getting ip and then connected.
So I can't believe that this is a hardware problem. I think the phone is waiting for something before the connection will be made or so.
I've serarched a bit an found that:

When your device is connected to Wi-Fi, then it will consume less battery as it needs less 'juice' to receive data from a Wi-Fi network than a cellular network.
However, if you are on 3G, but have Wi-Fi enabled, then your phone will consume more battery than with Wi-Fi disabled as the phone frequently scans for Wi-Fi networks. The scan time is configurable and stock ROM and CM7 scan every 30 seconds, whereas Neutrino ROM scans every 2 minutes. This means that Neutrino will have slightly better battery with Wi-Fi always enabled as it scans 4x less than normal.
To configure the scan time, you'll have to edit the build.prop.

I measured it again, how much time passes before the connection is available.
It takes about 2 minutes and 5 seconds, until the connection is there.
I think it is related to the scan-intervall.
Can you change the setting, that the phone will scan for wifi when it will be unlocked?
Hey guys, lately my wi-fi connection has been very slippery, as if it drops and then reconnects often, although it remains physically connected to my router. I don't know if it could be my router since every other device in my home is connecting to it fine. My phone is able to connect well to networks outside of my home, though, so I am unsure. Do you guys think it's the routers fault or maybe a kernel issue of some sort (I'm running stock kernel)? I've been having this issue on Tranquility and Viper ROM (maybe also on Mean) so it can't be A ROM issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
sounds like u have a gaf phone man.. if every other phone in ya house connects fine.. its not the stock kernel.. also the update we just had the OTA was supposed to fix wifi issues.. so u mite have something up with your phone.. alot of people had wifi issues that why they had a fix in the for it in the OTA we just got... my phone did the same ishh before the OTA now its fine..
I drop 3G like It's cool but that's sprints problem, never had that issue on WiFi. This phone has very powerful radios.

Check your wifi settings and make sure that your wifi connection is set to never sleep. Also Check your wifi frequency band in "wifi advance settings" and make sure its set to 2.4 only. That might help.

I doubt my phone is bad since it can connect find everywhere else. I'll try those tips, thanks

There's an app in the Market called WiFi analyzer. U can use it to see what other wireless networks are operating in your area. It will also reccomend the best channel for your router to be on.
Sometimes there is a lot of interference on your channel and switching it will help or has helped quite a few people with your problem that I know of.
I had a problem at work with a linksys router not issuing an ip address to my phone consistently. What I did is take a screenshot of my ip address, subnet mask, DNS address defaults, etc. when u could connect. Then I made myself a static ip using that info. A good app that basically let's u run ipconfig and other network troubleshooting applications is an app called Fing.
I've worked on this issue far and wide. If the new ota didn't help and u still get random disconnects thru WiFi then u need to exchange your phone. It is actually a problem with the radio. My first EVO LTE did it and I could fix WiFi disconnects temporarily, but not permanently. This, my 3rd EVO LTE works great with no ota installed.
Good luck. Hope I was of some help. Pm me if u need more help.

For me, I was on a different channel than my neighbors with no other wireless device ever had a problem in the 12 years I've been there.
What I do, Go into wifi advanced and click on the high-performance setting.
Only use it when needed as it burns battery.
Post back if it fixes the drop issue for you. Fixed it for me.
.,
Last night I flashed the awesome kernel and set the frequency to 2.4 seemed to go away. Today I flashed tranquility rls 1.a and I'm running it as is and having the issue again . I'll try out your suggestion throughout today and tomorrow, thanks for the tips guys!

I've been hearing about people talking about the wifi issues since day one, but never actually run into them. The past few days though I've been trying to stream and download things (exporting through dropbox) over wifi, and OMG, what the hell is this? Every 2 or three minutes the connection just stops - the wifi bars at the top still show the wifi connected, but the the stream or download just stops. Sometimes it starts up again, sometimes I have to disconnect from the wifi and reconnect. And the whole time the wifi indicator doesn't indicate any loss of signal - once in a blue moon though you'll see it disconnect then reconnect. I don't want to hit that high-performance setting (although it seemed to help the in the limited time I used it), because it uses more battery. I thought the update was supposed to resolve these issues. I know I never had these issues before the update. None of the tricks mentioned in this thread seemed to help. Just wanted to report the issue in case some other people are having it also, and hoping an update will come out in the near future to resolve it. On Viper4G, btw. If have time at some point, I'll try to flash another rom to see if I get the same issue.

It's kind of strange, mine has been dropping but the actual indicator in the status bar goes off when it does.I've seen it connect and disconnect 10-12 times per minute.I'm also running latest firmware/radios on the latest version of ViperRom.I'm also running Enoch's Kernel but not sure if I had the problem before the kernel flash or not.
im having the same issue. ive only really started noticing it because i was running chameleon pretty much since i got the phone and this never seemed to be an issue. now im on viper4g and my wifi will drop sporadically. it drops, i see the 3g icon for about half a second, and the the wifi reconnects. sometimes itll do it just once, sometimes itll do it continuously... the longest ive let it go before interfering is about 30 seconds. but my battery usage screen tells me that it goes on for way longer than that if left alone.
anyway, im on the lastest firmware, and i have the channel set to 2.4 (5 seems to knock everything in my apt, including my phone, off the router). i use the best wifi performance option sometimes, but as has been mentioned, it drains the battery. the phone wont sleep with that option checked. also, it seems to happen more frequently when im on the opposite side of my apt from the router.
ive read stuff about using a screwdriver to pull the antenna pins up a little, but that scares me. i dont really think that has anything to do with it anyway as ive tried that test where you squeeze the phone to see if your signal changes. it doesnt.
really, im kinda at a loss here. im thinking that i might try to exchange the phone if i cant get this figured out soon, but i dont want to do that if its something with my router or if the replacement is going to do the same thing.
I am using Viper 4G and have been having issues with my wifi connection dropping but more recently my phone has been restarting only while connected to Wifi. I haven't tried changing the wifi Frequency band to only 2.4GHz , but I will once I get home after work. I hope it works because its getting kinda annoying to have my phone restart so much while its just sitting idle.
I believe the rapid connect/disconnect issue some of us are having is also related to the phone not playing nice with particular routers. HTC referenced that fact when the 1.22 OTA came out. The changelog said the issue was fixed on how the phone communicated with certain routers and the disconnects should be eliminated. I can attest that the new update has made it a little better, but still not 100%.
The router at my work has been perfect, I've never disconnected from it once.
The router at my house is a whole different story. I have given up on downloading a ROM with my phone, directly to my phone. I will start the DL, sit the phone down and go do something, only to come back and find "download unsuccessful" every single time. I know it is because it is disconnecting. I can sit there and watch it happen.
The router at my friend's house is fine. Connect once, and never worry again the rest of the night. Obviously I need a new router. More obviously, HTC's software needs fixing. I shouldn't have to buy a new router just so one of my devices can stay connected to it.
Interesting seeing all these reports of dropped connnections with Viper4G. I've been running it for a few weeks and have never had a connection drop while it was in use on either the 2.4ghz or 5ghz bands of my d-link router. This thread over here suggests that replacing your Sense Settings.apk with an AOSP Settings.apk solves the problem for some people. I can't verify since I wasn't experiencing disconnects, but the AOSP menus are cool anyway
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824465
My issues (detailed above) have apparently resolved themselves. I haven't lost connection once today, and I was streaming and downloading all day.
I don't see how this actually did anything but here's what I did. I decided to try another kernel instead of the stock one that comes in the viper rom. I knew the wifi fixes that HTC supposedly made were in the new kernel, and I knew I wasn't having any issues until I updated, so I thought I'd give a custom kernel (based off the old base) a shot, and play around with some new governors and overclocking while I'm at it. I did a nand backup and flashed awesome sauce. Wifi issues were gone, but I didn't like the kernel, stock seemed smoother. So i restored my backup, and for whatever reason, my wifi issues remained gone. Like I said, I can't explain it, but there you go.
Nice to know I'm not alone with this. My Wifi drops every so often, particularly at night time or with downloads. Hopefully HTC figured out a way to sort this out 100%.

If you have a wireless router like myself that operates at two distinct bands, go into your Wi-Fi settings and choose the band that is at the higher range, and setting best performance is also a good idea, although this might result in greater battery drain. HTH!
