[Q] adding second language to contacts list right bar - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have contacts written in multiple languages and I'd prefer to keep the system language English.
How do I go about adding the alphabet letters to the list on the right of the contact list?
(i.e When language/locale is Greek I get both Greek and access to English/Latin Characters (#,Alpha-Omega,AZ))
thanks in advance

Custom Locale question

Hello everyone, I am having an issue with Custom Locale application on modaco's 2.2 rom.
What I want to do is, keep the English menus but also have the option for Greek keyboard. Now, there is a locale that changes both menus and keyboard to Greek so the Greek keyboard is there.
Although, when I select the locale for English menus and Greek keyboard(en_GR) it doesn't work, they are both English. Is there a way to modify the locales so I can achieve what I am looking for?
P.S: I also tried adding the locales from inside the application but that didn't work.
Anyone got a solution to this? If no, how can I contact the author of Custom Locale application?
Thanks.
Hello Zenor ,
I am having the same problem with hero , plus when i change to Gr locale dictionary prediction doesn't work for Greek input. enGr doesn't work either(i want to have english menu with a greek alternative keyboard language aswell). What i haven't tested yet though is insert a sim from a Greek mobile provider ,reset my phone and don't highlight the English option in the beginning.Just wait for a a couple of minutes and check if you have the greek input.
Have you guys figured out how to do it or no joy yet?
I'm also interested in having an English menu with a Greek keyboard for messaging (with predictive text preferably).

Sort of a suggestion
I can't help you directly with Arabic or Farsi but i have enabled mine to handle Japanese, so it is possible to use other languages than Latin based alphabets.
My suggestion is that you go to Market and look for Arabic & Farsi soft keyboards. They will usually also come with support for the most popular Arabic/Farsi IME.
The other thing I suppose is that you want support for Right to Left text display? I am not sure if an Arabic IME will come with that support. For example, Japanese can also be written vertically with the columns going from right to left. I haven't found support for that in any of the IMEs. So it will be trial & error.
PS. IME = Input Managing Editor

thanks for answering ..
when i install the keyboards the words on messaging or the web browser in Persian language are shown with space between hem
any Idea
Have you checked in settings? It might have a setting for automatically using space to save time, especially if you mix it up with words in an alphabetic based language.

Stock Dialer T9 Language

hi,
I really love t9 predictive dialing feature (eg if i want to call contact "Peter" i just press 7-3-8-3-7)
But it isn't working with my native language specific characters [central european] (eg. č ž š đ) that are very common in my language (Croatian)
Is there any way of changing stock phone dialer t9 language?
anyone?
Is there any way of changing stock phone dialer t9 language, so i can search for my contacts?
eg if want to call "Peter Čeh" , i dial 2-3-4 as Č-E-H, but that contact isn't showing on list, because T9 isnt recognizing Č.
I tried changing phone language to croatian, and all keyboard settings changed to croatian too..
any solution, or ideas?
thanks

[Q] Keypad letters

Hi all
Is it possible to change the letters from latin to greek on the keypad?
When you want to call someone you can write his name directly with the letters on keypad, but this only with names that are written with latin letters. How can I use this method with greek letters? Most of my contacts are written with greek letters.
You can change the keyboard language to Greek. If you're using the stock android keyboard, go to settings -> input language and select your preferred one.
EDIT: I just realised you meant keypad not keyboard. My bad.

Display Language change

I have a canadian version of the S9+ and I want to change the display language
I go to General Management-Language and Input-Language.
There I have some suggested languages and I have the option to add other languages
so I select to add a new language.
For example I select Greek and then I put it at the top.
After that I see that the phone is half translated.
Some of the icons i.e contacts, phone, calendar are translated in Greek but the most important
the Settings is not translated apart 2-3 options.
Just to be sure I delete English and I leave Greek as the only display language and again nothing.
The phone is not fully translated and espeically the settings.
I change the language to German.
I have the same result. Some options in Settings are translated in German but the rest remains in english.
Then I select french.
It seems French is ok. All settings are translated and all basic icons.
Is there a fix for that?
Why do I have half translated display languages?
Do I need to add a special code where the phone will start clean in that particular language?
