[Q]Disable Hardware Key Lights - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to disable my hardware keys from lighting up? when i want to watch a netflix movie at night the keys stay lit the entire time, and it really kills it for me.

EDIT: here's the link https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim
1. Download "SuperDim [root]" from the market
2. Open it up and click the "Other Lights" button
3. Choose the second option, "button-backlight."
4. Click thanks on my post, and enjoy!
P.S. Superdim is used mainly for dimming the screen super dark, which is nice for saving your eyes at night!

[Q] Make buttons stay on with backlight

Is there a way to have the 3 hardware "buttons" stay on anytime the backlight is on? I switch between devices often and it can be a pain to remember which button is which at night.
This question comes up often. Please do a search.
Download Adjbrightness (free, need root) from market.

This seems to allow a full range of screen brightness adjustment but doesn't seem to offer any option to keep the buttons turned on when the screen is on.

Have you try AdjBrightness -> Menu -> Option -> Lock on Button lights ?

sorry to hear that.
I am on streakdroid 1.9 and when i have that option checked + setting the brightness in that app, the buttons do stay on for me
Anyone else have an idea? I flashed streakdroid 1.9 just to see if the above suggestion worked. Still no go.

Quit quibbling about that... what is a forum for?
I run a Corvette forum and don't jump someone for asking the same questions, especially new members. After awhile the new members figure out how to search...
You also must press the set button.

Still no go. Used both the brightness and the timeout set buttons. Button backlight only stays on for about 5 seconds.
same here.....
At first I didn't like the light not staying on either, however after about a week, it was pretty easy to remember which the 3 buttons are and where... even in the dark. Now I don't mind at all.
Tip... touch lightly anywhere on that side and it lights up.

No I'm saying your post was useless and didn't help answer the question as is this one.

[Script]Toggle Button Leds off/on/off/on....

I wrote a script that runs in g script (lite), from market.
It runs on my 3d and toggles the button leds from on to off and back.
Each time the script is run it toggles the leds.
http://db.tt/sY7zGUo
I am rooted and it does require it.
It's quick except for the Gscript 20 second rule....
Note:
To run this, download it, then move it to the gscript folder on the root of the sdcard.
Next run gscript and > Menu add new script. Choose load file "led toggle 2"
You can also use the screen filter app. Set the filter to 100% and disable/unchecked "enable soft-key backlight".
I find it easier but that just me.

Hey. That's kindof awesome.
I personally use screen filter and tasker. I have it set so whenever I enter a game, game, movie it will turn screen filter on, turning off the buttons. And when I exit any of those it will turn then back on. Perfect.

This is cool, I'd like them permanently off.
And who needs screen filter when you can do it the geek way and run a script?

Screen filter you don't need root. Pluss screen filter has added benefit to lower screen brightness vs the "geek way". I think its an easy choice.
Mine won't toggle at 100%. Has to be lower then that for some reason or else nothing happens.

[App] Power Switch - screen off by closing case

Guys, im the developer of Power Switch, an app that switches off your tablet's screen when you shut the case.
The main thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277712
Ive had reports of problems with the tab's light sensor, so would appreciate some debugging feedback.
You can use the lite version to test, it has all the features, but just wont save as much juice.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to reply here or in the main thread, i read both regularly!
Many thanks!, Looks very interesting, will try it out and see how it does with my Tab.
Let me know if the light sensor work properly please!
Got Pro version on my phone, works great.
Will try it on my tab soon.
I'll check it out when i get home.
Works great on my tab too. Thanks mate.
Edit: I noticed on my phone after testing it on and off a few times, the light sensor stopped working. But after rebooting, I havent seen the problem since.
And I've yet to see a problem on my tab.
So the light sensor works? Can you log some sensitivity settings for me so i can fine tune it...

Like in different lighting settings? Like dimming the lights in the room? Or using different Sensitivity %s and closing the case?
Or all of the above?
Oh and after some extensive use on my DroidX, I've been having some problems. It turns off while I'm using the phone even in very lighted surroundings.
---------- Post added at 09:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 AM ----------
I'm at work right now but I tried a few things.
I'm using a Belkin Folio case and i tested to see how low i could set the % for it to read when the case was closed.
Anything under 10% didn't work (even when i completely covered the light sensor with my finger)
On 100%, even a shadow over the sensor would trigger it.
I'll try a few different lighting instances when I get home.
Thats cool, thanks!

Sure thing, bud.
Still having issues with it on my DroidX. I've been trying different things but I dont think its user error.
You should be using the proximity sensor, not the light sensor for the phone!

Oh well okay haha.
Its much more efficient...
Actually...to be honest, I dont even need it on my phone because its a habit of mine to hit the power button as im setting it down or putting it in my pocket.
I do love it on my tab though. Makes it easier just being able to close my case instead of trying to find the power button lol.
Can't remove this app from my tab! Help please

Do you have "Enable Power Switch" Checked?
EDIT: If you're using a tablet with a case that covers the screen when you close it, here's what you need...
1. Check "Enable Power Switch"
2. Check "Admin Permissions" (this gives the app permission to lock your screen or turn the tablet off)
3. Check "Enable Sensors"
4. Check "Use Light Sensors" (I recommend 10-20% Sensitivity)
5. Set up your Confirmation and Activation Delay.
---Activation Delay is how long it takes for the device to read if the case is closed or not. (If you set it to 0 seconds, your screen will cut off even if you simply brush something up against the light sensor on accident) I keep mine at 3 seconds.
---Confirmation Delay starts after you Activation Delay ends. It is a confirmation dialogue box that asks what you want to do. Once the timer for it runs out, it will lock your screen/turn the screen off. (I keep mine at 3 seconds for this as well but you might want it longer)
To recap...Set Activation Delay for how long you want the device to wait before it makes a decision if it should turn off your screen or not. Set Confirmation Delay for how long you want it to wait after the Activation Delay ends to actually turn off the screen.
((If you don't have a case that covers the screen and you want it to turn off when you put your tab upside down, replace step 3 with *Check "Acceleration Sensor"* And make sure you Uncheck "Use Light Sensor"))

NOT! Playing With The Proximity

I'm Using My Xperia S Quite A Long, This Is My First Android Phone So Far!:cyclops:
Now Straight Coming To The Problem:silly:
In Market, There Seems To Be So Many Cool Apps Dealing With The Proximity Sensor Like:
1>Proximity Screen Off
2>Wave Control
etc
Well It Seems There Is No Problem Installing It, Or Crash (or force Close)
BUT
On These Application Gesture Function Nothing Seems To Work EXCEPT The 'COVER & HOLD' Mode
[e.g: say I Set 'Swipe Once' To Turn Off The Screen And 'Swipe Once' To Turn On The Screen...NO NOTHING WORKS!:crying:
Now Put 'Cover & Hold' To Both Turn On And Off The Screen Just As Before (in different gesture)...Works Like A Charm:laugh:]
Same Case Happens In Wave Control ('Default Pause Or Play' On 'Cover & Hold' Works, But 'Next Song' On 'Swipe Once' Doesn't Work:crying:
I've Even Uploaded A Video (SORRY FOR LOW QUALITY with Nokia X6 :silly Showing The Problem In 'Proximity Screen Off' App
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CVFaV2QeIk
If Anyone Is Having The Same Problem Please Post It Down And Of Course The Solutions Are MOST WELCOME
AnYoNe!!??
Proximity Screen Off didn't work too well with my Xperia S...it had a problem with immediately switching the screen right back on after it triggered a screen off. I'm using Smart Screen Off myself, which I think is the best one of these sensor on/off apps I've seen yet. It has a lot of options and seems to have a better calibration for your proximity sensor and gyroscope. Not only can you trigger your screen on and off with the proximity sensor, but you can also shake the phone to turn the screen on/off, and flip it over to turn the screen off. I'm using a hand wave to turn the screen on, combined with a screen off widget and the flip over motion for turning the screen off, and it works great.
I do wish somebody could make an app like PGM Nexus for Xperias, that is an amazing app that's sadly for the Galaxy Nexus only. You can turn on your screen by just swiping left to right on the screen, or double tapping on it with that app. Swiping right to left at the screen bottom turns the screen back off.

Yes i know this bug.
It's just because the proximity sensor is to slow.
And don't worry, it's a software bug.
To fix it, go to system/etc/hw.conf
You will see 'proximity sensor configuration"

val_nburst=1

[Q] Tips and Tricks?

I found that video for the Samsung Note where the guy shows you some lesser known tips and tricks, but what are some for the Galaxy Player 5.0?
The only one I've found on accident is to increase the brightness you can hold your finger on the status bar for a few seconds. I love this feature but I wish you could also decrease the brightness in a similar manner. Do you know how to do that? Or any other lesser known shortcuts? Post um here!
It also decreases the brightness if you move it back too

Let's see...
-Screen brighter, hold down top right notification bar
-Screen dimmer, hold down to left notification bar
-You can change out the apps in the dock at the bottom. Open the app drawer, menu button, then drag an app out and a new one in.
-Holding the menu button acts like pressing a search button.
-Holding down the home button brings up recently used apps, letting you multi task better.
-If you plan to use Skype or do any other audio recording, the mic that came on the earbuds is better than the built in one.
Those are the things that come to mind right off. Some may be impressive, others not.
