Welcome me to your darkside.
I followed this forum for a month now, but still like to have advice since i never used android before...have some questions as well...
I will probaly get a locked device, meaning no root...
Is it still possible to overclock to 1.8ghz this way?
Secondly, i love to play simple games on the go. Like angry birds, cut the rope ect...do they play well without glitches? Just simply install from market? It supports the resolution?
Secondly, what about other games?
And how well do you estimate i can play n64 games on a 1.2ghz and on a 1.8ghz? Will the dual core help or will it not be used because ive read somewhere gingerbread doesnt support dual core or something?
And nds emulator?
Are these still developed or "done" / "finished" ? Also curious about dreamcast...
And what about 3d development, are there 3d shells/launchers in development? And what about the 3d launcher of the optimus3d? Id love that on my evo3d...Is it already a WIP?
And lastly, do some roms already managed to fix some problems like the camera freezes, and have a better 3d photo viewer?(i dont wanna swipe 2d photos and then see the 3d effect kick in after 1 second)
And domt forgot some personal advice of apps, launchers, games ect. Im a eye candy loves, if it doesnt suck to much battery and performance. A bit is okay
Thanks
welcome to the evo 3d!
tl;dr the rest but i hope it works out for you
Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your first android device, about the 3D pictures kicking in 3D after one second is normal, is because the screen have to get started, angry birds and cut the rope work fine and full screen on the phone without a problems, you won't need to overclocked for those they actually made for lower specs phone so they should work great, about the n64 emulator I think there on getjar or another market since google took them out of the regular market, and they work normal on the OG evo without overclocked so im guessing they will work fine on the evo 3d, besides that there is no way to overclock without root, root actually is not hard and you will get more eye candy the way, I just to have camera freezer for like 2 weeks, specially the second week that I went on vacation and i was taking a lot pics but i guess the phone got stable and i don't see them anymore, try to read a lot in general and q&a forums and you will learn alot about the evo and android as well, I hope this info helps
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Thanks...but is the 3d effect kicking in really normal?
The o3d doesnt has this problem...?

As far as I know yes

I know the 3d sdk is not out yet but I was curious if anyone farmilar with chainfire knows if it'd be possible to make a plugin for the EVO 3d to force everything to use the 3d display.

And then? Play a game thats not made for a 3d screen? That will look like crap.
If you have no input why post?
@OP I'd imagine it is possible actually, similar to graphics cards forcing anti aliasing and 3d in pc games.
That's something I'm definitely interested in seeing, but I wouldn't know how much work it would take to get it working

I had a great imput. Not a imput like your brilliant reply. Thinking AA is desame easyness as enabling 3d everywhere.
If a 3d application does not support 3d on its own, you will get crapess on its best.

Thanks. Im glad for you that you write perfect english without error.
I'd like to say, in theory, with a game that is rendered in three dimensions, you could program it to just use two different camera angles... but um, it'd have to be programmed into each one i'd guess... so yeah, no, prolly never gonna work.

Correct. Now the trolls can go away
In theory the display driver could be coded to display any opengl app in 3d, without changing apps. The driver has the complete 3d model, and two perspectives could be rendered. This would produce an accurate 3d projection for any ogl/el game.
The only thing that would appear odd is if the dev wasn't careful with the z plane on some objects ( 2d overlays, etc). It would appear fine in 2d, but 3d they may be way close or far out.
The 3d games aren't even POP OUT 3D so I don't know what the other guys are talking about. If you even play the included 3d game you can easily tell it just adds depth....I see why there would be a difference in other games, there will just be aded depth.
I thought NVIDIA's 3d stuff was a similar hack which is why they had varying degrees of compatibility among various games

I doubt spiderman was completely rewritten in 3d format. I would imagine it was just converted. I know instant 2d to 3d on a capable television doesnt look bad at all. Even some 2d to 3d clips are pretty good if done right, so I dont see what all the negative fuss is about. I was disappointed before launch, when I realized this phone didnt do 2d to 3d.
Oh yeah, games like call of duty that switches to 3d, doesnt have a completely seperate game on the disc, and it looks good.
3D isn't 3D as it was 5 years ago.
even in the movie theaters 3D isn't like OMG **** IS COMING AT ME kind of deal.
it adds "depth" and somewhat "clarity"
i remember Terminator 3D , now that was 3D .
the EVO 3D has limitations , makes stuff minor 3D. requires a lot of resources for full 3D . nothing a phone can handle atm, not even computers can handle it. full popping out , i think that hand is gonna grab my face 3D .
would you sacrifice half your battery life permanently with no fixes for full 3D on all the time? how would your eyes feel? looking at it everyday all day? i'll super glue 3D glasses onto your head . everything will be 3D .
the 3D effect is simply an angle, and depth as people say. that is all. makes you see more than just a flat angle. you can see the sides of the flatness, making it 3D

YEAH I GOT A EVO 3D
I just found this update out on the market, I don't know when the update came out and it doesn't seem like there's a thread about it already, so just to let people know. It supports full 3D for the Evo 3D and the Optimus.
If you have this game already launch it and check out the new glasses-free 3D, if not, I really recommend getting it, the 3D isn't bad (it looks AMAZING on the menu) but needs some perfecting on the actual in-game, or it could just be me trying to play it at 3 in the morning =p)
Either way, here's the market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.beepstreet.speedx&hl=en
Unfortunately, it's not possible to 'try' out the 3D feature since the free version doesn't let you cause of ads =\ either way, its worth a 15 minute free preview!
how to get that preview?

Here are the steps:
1)Purchase the game
2)Play the game
3)Refund your purchase from the market
4)Make the developer cry
It's a great game. If you try it and like it, don't feel bad about the ~$2 that it costs. Help the developer out!
Pretty cool. Worth my $1.50.

All market apps give you a 15minute window after you purchase them to try them out and get your money back 100% if you don't like it.
Actually that's true for every time you use Google Checkout for anything.
Man, this thing totally borked my phone, as soon as I closed it after playing, my whole touchscreen froze up! Reboot didn't help, finally got it uninstall, and phone started responding.

Ugh. Way slower than regular and the 3D isn't impressive enough. Disappointed.
Not knocking the actual game. I liked speedx. The 3D effect ruins the gameplay.

Play it for about 30 minutes and see if you don't think it's more addicting than crack. And the music rocks. I like it better than the original. The controls are better-tuned, the pacing and difficulty ramp are perfect. To me, the best part is that the '3D part' isn't getting in the way at all. It's just mild enough to be an enhanced visual, and not the game itself.
Gladly bought this.

Yeah I didn't see any decrease in performance either, run just as smoothly as it did without the 3D.
If you use this phone enough you could definitely tell that the 3D effect has a lot of influence negatively on the performance of the game itself. Just like the other 3D games I have. It's bearable, but it runs way smoother without 3D enabled.

Just checked the 3D Games app.....which didn't show anything for me. oddly. But, I went to the actual wapshop.gameloft.com, and clicked "More Best Sellers" and there it was, Shadow Guardian, the Tomb Raider/Uncharted rip off. lol
So, who's buying it?

Got it for free when Gameloft's Modern Combat 2 didn't support EVO 3D (spoke to Customer Support). Didn't realize it was new and all. I like the game, I just have to say that playing games with 3D enabled are a hit and miss since when you are moving the phone while playing you constantly lose that precious optimal viewing zone.
In the end, I just turned off the 3D effects. But it looks cool during the cut scenes since the subtitles and certain objects pop-out.
P.S. - judging by recent comments here, no one will reply to this

Thats like Asphalt 6 then. 3d is cool in the beginning but gameplay it makes everything jittery. I have to turn 3d off for a smooth game play.
I just bought Shadow Guardian 3D for me phone and I've sadly discovered it force closes at the beginning of the game, just as I start moving... I feel so disappointed right now, never had problems with any game before, especially bought ones, and I really wanted to play this game.
Did anyone else have had this problem? I'll mail Gameloft tomorrow and ask, but I trust XDA community more than a weak excuse which I'm rather expecting from them...
Some gameloft games are not compatible with ICS, known fact been discussed, sorry
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
Flashallthetime, I knew that was a problem half a year ago, I was hoping they'd fix it by now or at least somebody found a way around it... Damn it, I really wanted to play that game, now I spent the money on it for nothing...
I really doubt at this point gameloft will send out a patch as the Evo 3D is not a priority for either HTC or gameloft, most 2d games do play, call of duty zombies works fantastic
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
anyone who already tried it?

Ooohh.. OK.. that's cool.
Any feedback on how it looks?. Regular NOVA2 looks good!. I find it hard to believe that they could maintain its already stellar look in 3D. Probably had to drop some details.
EDIT: Downloading now. Will report back. Wish they let us transfer savegames. :-\
Update: The 3D effect is very disappointing. The Hudson pops out. But not really anything else. There isn't a lot of depth either. Just all around pathetic 3D effect. The game also runs terribly while in 3D. Worse performance of any 3d game I've played. And I'm overclocked. Turning off 3D for this one is a better experience all around. What a Rip off.
lol that sounds very dissapointing. I dont have the game yet but for me it looks like it was very similar to nova 3d 1. nova 3d 1 runs very well on my phone so there might be some things they updated that making it harder to run nice.
I have installed the game and your right. The game lags sometimes a bit and the 3d is not very spectacular. Dont think I will finish this game. Glad I still have enough other 3dgames to play
According to Gizmodo in their HTC One X review, the phone had issues playing 3D games. They specifically mentioned Temple Run, and the phone not picking up certain inputs due to the CPU being overloaded or something. Sounds iffy to me, so I'm seeing if anyone is able to replicate this kind of thing with the LTEVO, thanks!

When playing Temple Run, I notice an occasional blip where it hesitates for just a moment. Enough to make you smash into a tree though if you're not careful. Doesn't happen often thought, and I can't find a pattern of when it happens.

Def not bc of lack of power I'm sure they just need to be optimized for the EVO..
If you think about it, there are only three Android phones with HD screens on the market right now. Most games are probably not yet optimized for that resolution as well. Even Apple doesn't have HD screens in their phones yet. Handset HD rendering is a rather novel feature.

I remember when I bought the OG Evo, it seemed to everyone like it was underperforming in the game department. People said it would be fixed with updates and it didn't work because of this or that, but eventually we just realized the hardware wasn't up to snuff. I don't want to make the same mistake with my next purchase, so how bad is it really? Are there any high-end games that run perfectly? How does shadowgun play?
I've played all those games on my 3d ..and they played great..so with a greatly improved CPU and a oc-d gpu its def not hardware ...the s4 is top notch..and ur not go.na have too choice since almost all high end phones coming to the US will utilize the s4

I agree but something is wrong I am having small issues with many games that ran fine on the 3d and OG. For instance just downloaded Nba Jam tonight and it studders and lags the whole time un playable. This game was running pretty good on my EVO last week.
So I agree it is not the hardware but something needs fixed. Sounds like the HD screen issue may be to blame

I will go check it out. I am not saying that it is the issue but someone mentioned it and it sounds possible that these may not be optimized for our screen yet I know when qhd was first hitting the market some apps had trouble with it. It has to be something though because there is no way this hardware cannot run apps that ran fine on my OG it just doesn't add up.
Any one get Demolition Inc working on this thing yet?
Shadowrun plays nice and smooth no issues with that game.

Possible Fix
I don't have the 4g LTE yet I am a current 3D owner. Am trying to decide between GNex and LTEvo but that's another topic...
From what I've read somewhere else (can't quote where from) the fix was to bump your minimum cpu speeds up a notch and will probably fix most/all your lag. Use Antutu or other choice program (rooted only of course) and bump your min clock speed up one or two spots and I bet you don't run into issues.
If this doesn't work then ignore...thanks!
Shadowrun plays really smooth, and I'm amazed with the graphics. Looks sweet!
I was hoping this phone would game better than my gnex but so far it's not doing what I had hoped for. GTA3 has awful audio quality and I have to turn the settings down to low and lower res and other settings to get it to play lag free. I don't think it's any better than my gnex was. I am hoping the game needs an update.
Well I'm disappointed that a lot of the best looking 3D games do not work.
Not Working:
All Gameloft games EXCEPT Order & Chaos (but it still crashes some)
Even the brand new N.O.V.A. 3 doesn't work
Mass Effect Infiltrator
Dead Space
Field Runners
Working:
GTA III
Shadowgun
Minecraft
Deer Hunter Reloaded
Galaxy on Fire 2
Gentlemen, the phone has not even officially been launched yet.
Once game devs figure it out the games will run fine on our hardware. It is fact that our phones are more powerful than the 3D or the Gnex so it just needs to be optimized. On top of that, imagine how our phones will fly on a nice aosp Rom...
