I know a while ago when we first found out that we couldnt watch movies from the market on rooted devices someone managed to get it working. Did we ever figure out how?
Anybody know what that one website is called? It's like "let me show you how to google that" or "teach me how to google that" or something?

I have the new market. So, just put this apk on root of SD card and install? This will install over existing Market?

Yes, just throw it on an SD card and install.
It doesn't install over top of the full Market, just the Video portion of the Market.

As expected, the B&N app store is really lacking. Is it possible to sideload apps?
Do we have to wait until root and custom firmwares are out before this is available?
I inserted my card into it - it can't recognize APK files, so maybe not yet.
Perhaps we just need to get a decent browser on it and associate .apk with package installer. Don't know.

Patience people! Patience!
I know it's hard =)
I have no doubt this thing will be one of the most tweaked and hacked devices ever. Price is low, specs are high, it's just asking for it.
Anyone tried adb to install apps?
Sent from my Samsung Legendary 4G, a Universe UTES phone, running "two.three.five"
quick link to an video and article on how to side load apps...
Currently it looks like they are talking about Amazon AppStore items right now.
http://liliputing.com/2011/11/how-to-sideload-apps-on-the-nook-tablet-amazon-appstore-go-launcher-ex.html
So I noticed, that Samurai vs Zombies Defence is free today, I tried downloading and it would not let me download saying its incompatible, there are couple other apps which are known to be compatible but the app store wont let you download it, I googled and noticed there is way to change the buid properties, which lets you download any app.
These are changes to build.prop file and they worked for me, I have tested it on my note and I would request someone else willing to take a risk and test this.
Requirements
1.) Phone should be rooted
So first step is to kill the Google Play App and clear data from
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Google Play Store > Clear Data.
After this open Root Explorer and goto
System> build.prop
Now I'd suggest making a back up and keep it in the sd card, (if your using Root Explorer it will also make a backup)
In case system is not Mounted as R/W do so in root explorer from the top right hand side.
Edit the file and look for
ro.product.model =
and change it to
ro.product.model = SAMSUNG-Galaxy Nexus
In the orginial article this was changed to Nexus S, I tried that, but it dint work for my phone.
Before anyone use it, I'd request a brave soul to try this, I dont think this is big deal but some testing would help.
Thanks!

But for an update or something the same has to be repeated, and the file has to be hosted other then the play servers.

Thats strange because with the Saurom, it wont let me do it from the website or the phone, the install option was gone.
Mine works!

Having established that Google has NFI what's compatible with my device, I'm pretty keen to perform this hack (I have a Galaxy Mini; I guess I should call it a Galaxy S or something?)...
Only trouble is, I see Root Explorer is a paid app. Is ES File Explorer (or another free app) able to remount read-only partitions as R/W?
I can't find any documentation to help me understand its interface.
EDIT: never mind, found it in the options : )
Hi, I have a Rooted Bell Samsung Galaxy Note SGH I7i7M and had the same problem when trying to download the sixaxis controller app.

Doesn't work on every app, I still have some that say not compatible...

I can download it from the Play Store, but when I open it...it states this app is not blah, blah, blah your country...then closes. I'm using Collective's Unofficial 1.5. It does the same thing when I sideload the apk as well. No search has yielded positive results.
Yeh I did this a while back to get ultimate fx app on my gingerbread...lol....

Your issue is probably not device name but:
ro.product.locale.region=xx
Change it to the region of that app. Reboot your phone and try again.
Hey guys!
Trying to recover some of my apps on my new Jelly Bean ROM but Titanium says it can't because installing apps from unknown sources is blocked. So I go to Security in settings and theres nothing there to allow manual app installs...in fact, the option is no where in settings.
Are we not allowed to install apps from outside the App Store or is this setting something that is just missing?

How about you read the first two posts of the thread. It was there!
I only answered it to prevent a useless Google search. Now the answer is here in case someone who knows how to search finds this thread.

Become a developer!
Goto “About phone” (or tablet)
Tap the "Build number" (the last item) 4 times slowly
On each tap, it will remind you how many "click" away from being a "developer"
At the end, it will told you "You are a developer now"

What do you mean by looking in Birds nest/lock screen/security? What is the Birds Nest you are referring too/ Sorry for the no0b question. I'm having the same issue as the OP trying to reinstall some of my apps that I backed. I have the latest 4.2.2 Jellybean and I have the Unknown Sources checked, and the Verify Apps unchecked. When I tried to install my back up paid apps, I get a error saying "not installed." These are my legit apps that are tied to my account that I paid for. It will let me install the free apps like facebook etc. I just don't understand. Anyways, I didn't want to make anew thread so I figure i asked hear. I been trying to figure this out. Thanks!
Re: Can't find "Install from Unknown Source" option in settings (Jelly Bean)?
Settings-about phone- at bottom is build number...tap that space 7times and it will unlock the development section

So I downloaded the app to my phone for you, then zipped it and uploaded to my Dropbox account. There are 2 zips, one was for the folder found in /data/app:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9903887/Apps/com.anki.drive-1.zip
one in /data/data
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9903887/Apps/com.anki.drive.zip
The apk itself is in the 1st zip. I am not sure if just installing that will put the rest of the stuff where it is needed. If not, then put the unzipped folders into their respective places and reboot and should be fine.

yeah i checked it all out. it actually has license verification code to make sure it came from google play.. strange for a free app.. will see what i can do to get it from the market.. may have to try a hacked play app.
thanks for the help mate.
Does anyone have the newest version thats out in the play store now. I think 2.4.0. Apk or files. Thanks
