so I have GB 2.3.4, rooted it with pre-install, and nothing else. However, every day, my camera stops working, as in when I press the camera shortcut, it almost rotates but then says com.camera... has unexpectedly stopped working, and only a reboot starts it. With the camcorder, I get a black screen and camcorder icon, thats it.
Whats the problem?
same thing here

I have the same problem with a rooted Atrix 4G on CM9. I tried many CM7 and CM9 Roms and still the same problem.
There is two softs I like very much. VideoCam Illusion and Fast Burst Camera...best things I found.

I open the camera and it works fine, until I switch to the other camera facing me. Then it forcecloses. Used to work fine. I'm not modded or anything. The error is:
Process com.android.camera has stopped unexpectedly. please try again. Anyone have this issue?
Just wondering do you use Fring or whatever for 3rd party video chat? Maybe that is running in the background and causing problems...
No, nothing at all. Weird right. it worked totally fine. I went to show a co-worker and it did that. Embarassing lol. I've rebooted too.
Now its working.. I went into camera and set to defaults. I never even changed a setting. But it worked. Thanks
Having the same problem. I do have fring installed. Clearing the cameras cache fixes it each time. But everytime I use fring, i have to go clear the camera cache. Annoying.
Sometimes when i take a picture the camera freezes and every time I try to open it it just shows the picture I took and it close by itself I have to restart the phone so the camera works again, am I the only one? Also is anyone else having other issues with the camera? 3D OR 2D
Ya i have the same issue, dont know if its been discussed before or not..im about to search it..but i asked a friend who works with sprint and he said he thought he seen an update coming out to fix it..hopefully its sooner than the bootloader unlock!!
I have the same exact problem......what I did was hit the home button and force close the camera app...it may happen again ....if it does force close it again...after a few photos it stops freezing....either way I hope a fix comes out from HTC.
I don't have a 3D but I'm running similar ROM on my 4G and had Camera issues.
Just for grins, try shutting off GeoTagging in Camera settings and see if it helps.
Total shot in the dark.
I was about to ask this cause finally I try to use my camera for the first time today all day n it froze on me after I take a picture n freezes , had to press home n go to application n force close it n open the camera app again so i can have it working n take picture again happen to me a couple a time not sure if evryone is experience this cuz its kind of annoying to try to capture n moment n the camera freezes.

Have you tried doing a factory reset? That seems to solve a lot of issues.

Very well put! Sometimes it is overlooked. Good Job!
Same issue, 3 times now. Frustrating. I get a black screen and sometimes the grid shows up but that's it. Can't hit back, only home. I think mswlogo might be onto something with the geotagging idea. I'm going to try that. I think it's only happened since I turned it on. But still I would expect I should be able to have that on AND be able to use the camera!
I had the issue a few times, but it's nothing that persisted. I've even had the random scrambled review screen, or even last night an entirely green screen, but they're not common at all. I also had choppy camcorder video playback once, but once I restarted the phone it was all fine. The thing is, our device is a highly tuned machine, but as with any machine there are always hiccups and random glitches every so often. As long as these glitches don't persist, though, and they are the exception rather than the rule in terms of operation, then it's understandable IMO.
BTW- Be sure to checkout your apps. A hanging application can create issues, and that was actually the problem behind my glitchy video playback. If you find out the issue, then be sure to post it for everyone of course ;-)
My camera all of the sudden stopped working the other day. Whenever I try to use it, the screen goes black then force closes after a few minutes. I tried to download a few other camera apps and nothing happened. Currently running with no root and I don't want to root it until the camera is fixed, unless that would help fix it.

If you're on a 100% stock ROM with no changes and no root access with a camera that stopped working, there are very few things which can be done.
The only real solution would be to clear out the specific stock camera application's data directory. Not sure if this is possible w/o having to clear all the data.
I'd suggest the following steps in this order:
1) Manage applications under settings is where to look to clear out the specific Camera application data in hopes that only something was corrupted. Reboot and test.
2) Wipe all data on the device. Reboot and test.
3) If none of these worked, personally, I would return/exchange the stock device for another one as at this point, it would definitely seem to be hardware related.
An alternative route would be to gain root access and look into switch kernels/ROMs, but this could end up being a dead end if the issue is hardware related.
The only good/not so bad news is I've never seen the camera completely stop working on any of these devices .. at least not yet. So hopefully this issue is not hardware related! Good luck!
I cleared out the camera information and it worked the second I restarted my phone. Thank you!
That happened to me to, nothing I tried worked. Was good that I had ESRP. The Sprint store replacement the phone in lieu of just fixing the camera

Sometimes it's nice for them to just fix your phone and not give you a refurb. My sprint store seems to screw ur phone up when they fix it lol.
In the past when I was on the evo they swapped my screen out and broke my volume buttons. Then they just gave me a refurb.
Same thing happened to me. Suddenly, it doesn't work. Oddly enough, the Front Face camera does work by using the Mirror app. But the Rear camera does not respond when launching the Camera app.
I already tried switching ROMs, switching kernels, factory defaults, and nothing worked. Might be a hardware issue. I just hope it can be fixed without replacing my phone. It would suck having a replacement phone with HBOOT v1.50...
please someone help me i installed canvas4 hd custom rom on my device then i found that camera is not working it gives a error cant connect to the camera i reverted back to stock rom tgen found that camera app is missing. flashed the stock rom via sp flash tool still no camera app. but i can access camera through contacts app but its not working. but one day it worked suddenly for an hour after that no luck what to do

@Birbal
Me too, I opened up the board, and if I press hard on the camera connector part and open,it sometimes works, so I tried adding a little bit of padding behind it, so still it isn't working. Even the flashlight app is working so I think it might be a software or connector or mother board issue because sometimes the camera pens up fine,so definetly its a very mysterious problem. My camera actually stopped working while I was using Camera FV 5... While using te screen just turned white with some green lines,,, I thought it might be a bug and restarted the app.. But then i got the "cant connect to camera" error for the first,, from then it has continous..
I will try opening it up and try something again today..
Definetly its a software related prob.... My cam is now working
I have a stock rooted G3 running ZV8. One day last week, my rear facing camera stopped working. No warnings or anything like that beforehand, just no longer working. I get a black screen with only a back button and the last pic taken icon, but nothing else. When I try to access the camera from another camera app I get the message that the camera can't be started or is in use by another application.
The front facing camera seems to still be functional, but can only be accessed by a camera app that goes directly to it, like Camera360. I'm at a complete loss as to ideas about whether this is a software issue, or a hardware issue. If anyone else has had issues with their camera no longer working, any info you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I am having the same problem, and it just appeared out of nowhere as well... I have tried clearing the camera apps cache and data and have wiped davlick from twrp but to no avail. Going to try wiping and reinstalling the rom and will get back to you if it works.
I am running the stock rooted rom :S
