Hi,
I've asked and searched, but found no answers yet...
I've a HTC Sensation and a few days ago i did a long press on the search button (bottom right). A pop up asked me what application to launch, i choose google voice and tick the case by default. I would like to come back on this choice...
Is there a way to modify which application or function is launched by default with a hardware button?
Thanks
You can go to your applications and clear defaults for google voice if you want to make the choice.

There was an app that allowed You to choose what should be done after holding the search button. Can't remember the name
I don't know if it would satisfied You

Hi everybody,
I too bought this amazing smartphone and I'm definitely happy about it.
I've only a small question: is there any way to put "recent calls" as first page when pressing the "phone-button"?
I mean, pressing the telephone symbol I always get to the keypad, even though I closed it at recent calls.
Is it possible to make it memorize where it was when closed (like running in the background) or to decide which window to open first?
It is getting annoying having to move from the keypad to recent calls each and every time I open it
Thanks in advance
I use call log shortcut (nexmon) for this, install it from Android market and put it instead of phone

Thanks, this was a frustration for me too. Never thought of looking for an app to fix this
Incidentally, is there anyone around with an idea as to how you could remap the 'search' key to perform like a 'call' button (which would also give us the call log)? I still miss having the hardware call button.
Thanks
I'll try with that!
simple and perfect. Thanks!

Pull via adb or using root explorer file thunder_keypad.kl in system/usr/keylayout.
Search in there for search key code and replace the action "search" with CALL.
Save files and reboot.
Now when you press the search button, you have the call log opened ^^
So I find that Voice Search is no longer integrated into a button (long press). It also doesn't even have a damn button for it. I have to launch Google Search and THEN launch Voice Search. Please tell me there is an easier way to do this...I don't want another launcher at this time either.

I found an app that's a shortcut, called "GVS" in google play on my pc (didn't see it on th e mobile version of google play for some reason). I downloaded it and put it on the home page...its perfect! .
ICS only uses 3 buttons as the standard, this has been known for a long time.
Just use the integrated Google search bar. I believe it's on the 2nd homescreen. Press the microphone and say what you want to search for, send a text, whatever.
I don't care about a search capacitive button. I know it only has 3 buttons smh. I just want my long press. Its all about hands free texting etc in the car. I dont want to have to switch pages and then find the search button on that page while driving. Guess i'll wait till a Sense 4.0 rom gets it right. Love the fun but this was a step backward for a VERY handy feature. Maybe they are planning to roll out Sense Speak or something soon.
The app I mentioned is a shortcut to Google Voice Search, I put it on the bottom bar (whatever that's called), so it's on every page...you can see it here
I was under the impression a long press on the multi-tasking button would launch Google Voice Search? Is this not the case? In any case, yeah, give it a week or so and someone will come out with a mod for the capacitive buttons like the One X has.
even better, i want the camera button hard press (not long press, which brings up the camera) to be the voice search button. i know i saw a thread on this, i asked for it in another post.
...Soft press i guess can be just a regular search button, if you are into that freaky ish
Banned
GVS was banned today. Hopefully Google just has an issue with the name.

Just an FYI on cm10 you can make a longpress set to voice search. I personally use long press recent app button for voice search. Just thought I'd point this out.

I never use the search soft button on the 717. Is there any way to reuse it to launch an application or something else?
written in your mud with my stick.
On another galaxy phone there was an app that let you do anything with any button. I made the search button put the phone to sleep.
Don't some of the newer roms allow for it? I swear mine has been the flashlight button ...at least on the lock screen. Unless my decaying brain is just messing with me.

It used to work fine for me with this:

I would swap my menu and search button for ease of use.

if you hold the button down at least google voice search should launch. Maybe a couple other app options.
Btw, deleting voice_talk_q1.apk from system/app on JB will enable google voice search if you long press search. Rather then the samsung svoice only.

Hello All,
I upgraded the GMail app on my One to the latest version and I noticed that there is no longer a 'Settings' button on the menu bar. On other phones (i.e Samsung S3 or S4) you could press the Menu soft button on the phone and click SETTINGS but the One doesn't have the soft key for Menu. I've attached an image of what I'm referring to. I know this it the old version, but just used it for reference.
Any idea how to get to Settings in the Gmail app now?

Yup. I'm having this dilemma too. Either I am stupid, of a very stupid design by google.

So turns out this isn't really Google's fault, it's HTC's. Somehow HTC decided to design this wonderful phone but not include a Menu button. I don't know how this got by designers and approved by HTC but it's a negative for The One, IMO. Don't get me wrong I love the phone, but this is plain silly.
So, in order to get your 'Settings' back (and any other 'menu' function) in the gmail app, you need to install a ROM that has an option to modify one of the soft keys to for 'Long Press = Menu". I personally am using CleanRom. This let's me use a long press on the 'Home' button to activate the Menu options. This will work with any other app on the phone also.
Here's another thread on a work around:

Or just search the forums for: HTCLogoMenu
I have question about the "long-press-search button function" of old phone which have search button.
What they call this function? How can I do to tweak my home button on the htc one x+ to do same thing?
For example, I have an old evo 3d, when I long press search button, it appeared google voice search. When I install handcent message app, it appeared the window let me choose google voice search or text massage. When I install Screen Cast app, it appeared window which google voice search, handcent message, screenshot, and sreenrecoder.
Thanks! Really need this function ^^
Should be default when you install any voice app. Hold the home key.

Thanks. But home key in htc one x+ is default by open the google now. Not the google voice search.
The function of long-press-search (from the old mobile) is so different.
you can change the values in system/usr/kl/qwerty.kl
take a look at that

Oh! It is a very good advice. But it is kind of complicated. I am not so strong in code so could u please show me how to let my long-press-home-button become function like long-press-search key? And what is that function call?
Stupid question, why they cut off this function when I think it is very useful ((
