I'm looking for a reminder app that I can open - set what i need to do, set what time to remind me just a simple one such as on iOS its simple right?
I'm guessing we can't make it pop up etc. but it showing up on notifications is good enough.
What kinds of apps are there? Oh and it has to be offline based, i don't want to be have to connected to the internet to remind me of something.
Thanks
You just described Google calendar unless I am missing something?

Use your calendar? You can set the event to go off to a silent alarm

Hi another question, in attempt to preserve battery life, is there a way to change email notification, like how on the iphone, your email only syncs when you open it.
How would I go about that? thanks!
In the email settings there is an option for how frequently the phone will check for messages. You can change this to never check and it will just refresh when the app is opened.
Can't find anything like that in the Gmail app

Finally found a great app to give missed event reminders. Works for Gmail, Google Voice, SMS & MMS, email, Google Talk and something called K9 Mail.
Reminders are very configurable. It can make a sound, vibrate and/or even flash the screen for a brief period (default is 1/2 second - it will show your lock screen).
Lots of other options to customize, and all seem to work on the Streak!

Thanks for the info. I will have to check it out. Right now i am using EA and thats doing more or less the same thing...
I was wondering if you could get XDA notifications when someone has quoted you etc. on your phone when using the XDA App? I have the app and I have went into the settings and set it to check every 5 minutes but it doesn't seem to be working. I must be missing something or maybe it isn't possible.
Thanks everyone.

Turn off notifications and use an app like light flow.
Use a different MMS app.

This.
I use Handcent and there is an option in settings to set the "Do Not Wake Screen" setting.
You need to go into your stock SMS app settings and uncheck notification options though.
As suggested by another user, turn off notifications in the sms app. Download an app called sms popup in the play store. Go into that app. Disable the popup notification. Set the rest of the settings such as the notification icon, notification sound, etc. With all that done, you essentially have the stock app behaving the way you want. I've been rocking this solution along with light manager for a few weeks and it's flawless.

I managed to get Google voice to work with the MMS app with the app GV integration, but it's really hit and miss. Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't, and it slows the device down. Is there a better way to combine GV and the MMS app? I have tried every texting app but none are as fast and simple as the stock MMS app. Any suggestions?

I'm also trying to get this figured out. I used the GV Integration app as well, however it doesn't work in Android 4.2.2, so it isn't an option anymore. Right now, I'm using Messaging + Google Voice, which is very similar to the stock app, however, it doesn't have that nice pop-up box like the stock one.
Well its working for me but I get no notifications in the stock sms app. I think it might be because the app is not in the actual /system/app folder. I would find out by moving it but I don't know where jackpot has the system apps installed to.

Well I found the parent app for sms and tried moving to system/app but I didn't know that everyone had this problem with 4.2.2. Right now I still use GV integration but since SMS gives no notifications, I just enable gv notifications to at least know I got a text and reply with the SMS app.
I have used that app before but the notifications and buttons in the app are horrible looking to me so I prefer not to use it.
