Should I unroot if getting a replacement phone? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cracked my screen and am going to pick up my replacement either monday or tuesday. I know I need to do a nandroid and then a factory reset, but do I need to unroot?

If your turning it in I would just for good measure. Some say Verizon doesn't even look to see if you've rooted, but with the direction the company is going, there's no telling what they'll do.

if ur paying for the replacement anyways just destroy the phone make it easier in yourself

Yes, here is a very easy way to get back to the complete stock setup. Name this file PG05IMG.Zip and reboot into the bootloader to install.
http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/309817-easy-way-unroot.html

It's an insurance replacement. Nobody is gonna ask. If they do, it got lost. Why would you even think of giving it to them?

I don't mean to hijack, but I am rooted and have bamf. So I just put that file on my phone and install it in hboot and im back to stock?

Put it on the SD and rename it to PG05IMG.zip and go to hboot and yeah, it will go back to stock.

??????? If it wasn't currently locked or going to be released locked then HTC would say so, as this is giving them bad PR.
From the statement they released it undoubtedly wasn't going to be released unlocked....

Can the xtc clip not even unlock it because its suppose to unlock all bootloaders and devices up to date ?
There's a difference between locked and encrypted. The Evo3D bootloader is encrypted. Which requires cracking a 256 bit AES key. Anyone work for the NSA?

Rebirth Of A 3vO...

I have been here for a lot longer than I have been registered and I have learned a great deal...I currently have a EvO 3D and I rooted it as soon as root was available...Quite a nice piece of electronics...However, I noticed that my original Nandroid backup went missing after I flashed a battery mod...I noticed my battery life turn into absolute crap...I'm not sure if the flash had anything to do with it or not since I had installed other apps...I have since wiped everything, and I didn't reinstall those other apps...The battery mod remained after the full wipe...My question is if there is a way to absolutely wipe everything back to out of the box, which also means losing root...Every wipe I make does not bring me back to original settings...I want it all gone except for my SD card of course...Is there anyway to do this?...I have searched around and nothing I've tried has worked...Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Yo, "that ****" will make the difference between you bricking your device and doing it right. Read the steps, because if you don't people won't be polite to you when you come back with problems.
I did read it bro, it says at the beginning "Step 1 - backup everything on your phone, nandroid backup"
that's what I'm not sure how to do yet, I haven't used it since about May and it looks different than the original Evo, so I'm completely lost!!! The menu has changed completely since I last used it...

What? It is just like any other recovery, go to "backup" from the first menu and backup. If you can't make it past that point in your own, maybe you shouldn't be attempting this.
And did you pm a mod to move this as it most certainly should not be in this section.

1. Yes, you can still flash ROMs even on the new hboot.
2. All you have to do is use RegawMOD to do everything, and then flash a couple of SU zips.
3. Questions belong in the Q&A section.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the previous doesn't mean that I can't wait, it just means that I feel the frustration of others who had bad things happen (like OTA updates!). We'll get it, though. Still a new phone, still lots of fun stuff to play with....and at least we have the HTC Unlock available, and can still get root.

So it's probably as silly as it looks.

That's not exactly true after this last update. If I recall correctly, if you HTC Unlock on 1.22, you can't flash kernels through recovery, you have to do it another way. I think there were other things we couldn't do anymore as well.

Agreed. It clearly states in both the s-off and unlock threads that it's not for 2.xx. And people are still getting their hands on 1.xx version DNAs, so the info is still valid and needed.

I agree completely, send it off and have it JTAG'd. Turn around time is real quick. Having an unlocked phone is that important to me too so before I buy a phone I do my research and know exactly what I'm getting into. You got lucky with the DNA though because of it having the ability to be unlocked via JTAG. I definitely recommend proceeding it's an amazing phone.
The reason that you're getting a hard time is because a quick google search, site search, or reading through one of the many threads you mentioned seeing would have answered your question. It's nothing personal, and the good thing is that people are quite forgiving around here.
