Ok i got some money, i long time ago thinking change my x10 to ...
Now my x10i running on 2.3 v3 thx to Wolfbreak Im really appreciate this. Thx
Now im thinking between buying an ARC - mainly cause of the HDMI, and Sony- and SGSII -hardware capability- I read some article, post about challenging the 2 phone. And now stuck so many pros and cons on both side.
So which 1 you choose: stay with x10i, SGSII, ARC (optionaly Xplay? )
I'd stick to x10i for now because with wolf's 2.3.3 it really is pretty fast and stable, thus making it a good phone that can compete with most newer phones running on stock roms.
I don't know how things are in hungary, but here you usually get the best deals around christmas time and new stuff will be released continuously until then, I'd say lay low, read the news about upcoming handsets and make your decision then.
It all depends on what are your expectations from a smartphone and what u use it for mainly.
The X10 with 2.3 is a good phone imo and i'm pretty astisfied with it.
The Arc is an improved X10 - better screen / camera / performance ; but it's rly not that different.
The SGS II is in a total different cathegory with it's dual-core processor , but unless u are rly into opening apps in 1ms and stuff like that u won't notice such a big difference between ARC and SGS II.
The Play i would recommend only if u are a heavy gamer
U can just keep the X10 for now and w8 for the next generation of smartphones (maby quad-core or who nows )
It all comes down to what u use the phone for and what are your expectations D:
man!
there's no comparison between X10i, arc and SGS2 !
X10i is now outdated but still good for basic functionality,
if you can afford don't look at Arc, go for SGS2, its a Rocket, and you won't disappoint with its quality and features!
SGS2 is good but bad screen quality cause the type if screen it does. I will recommend you buy the Arc:
- 16 million colors but I don't think you eyes can process all colors at once.
- The camera sensor and front camera.
- The launcher is very beautiful and I don't want to look at the SGS2 cause the such ugly launcher.
- Bootloader unlocked and If you want TouchQuiz, you will have (I don't know exactly how boot loader works but as I know from HTC announcement that you can install other ROM from other device on your Arc. (Maybe SamSung does)
- etc.
But I don't think it's good ideo to compare X10 to these 2 phones and I think you know why. Brilliant.

If you have to, buy a sammy 2, if not, dont buy any and wait
jus wait wid x10 after wolf's 2.3 even i stopped my plan to buy a new one ..will wait until sony launches it dual core ...love the arc launcher though !!!
anyways else go for HTC Evo 4g or Sensation 4G
Don't rush to buy now. Everybody insists on the difference of the phones HOWEVER, that's better is about to come.
There are rumors by Eldar, the russian blogger, that Samsung wants to put out even a better phone - ahead of Iphone 5 (and that's why the law suit etc).
So instead of paying now and then in 2-3 months already a new one is on the market, please stick with X10 and then you upgrade afterwards.
The trouble with SG2 is the 3 second lag and the interface freezes from time to time, and depending on your (bad) luck, you might get one which has problems with the screen. Arc is still Sony, has house cracking issues, check online ...
Wolf just release a mod without FPS cap and no audio lag for X10.
So just hang in there
sgs2 is by far the best out of your choices...
anyone who says otherwise is an se fanboy.
Sgs2 and Arc are awesome but you should stick.with the x10(its not THAT far behind) cause by the end of the year i bet there will be new improved models and you have time to save more money

Hi everyone.
I'm just thinking about buying a Xperia X10 mini pro for my wife. I went to the store to check but the screen looks really small. I was reading some reviews on the web but ther're not conclusive and always done with a fresh device.
Can someone post a brief review on the following topics?
1. How's speed after a certain usage?
2. Is the screen a limiting factor for some, many or really most android apps?
3. Will froyo be avaliable on this one in future?
4. Top 5 pros and cons?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well i have the x10 mini for more than a month now and the speed is still very quick, very few lags. For the screen size and apps, i think there are a lot of available apps for the x10 mini's screen size, my only nag is that i can't access paid apps yet, not really the x10 mini's problem but the android market here in my country. With froyo I hope its coming but i dont think it'll be anytime soon since the eclair update will be coming only at the end of october
Top 5 pros
1. very pocket friendly
2. fast
3. nice ui
4. nice camera
5. not too expensive
Top 5 cons
1. only android 1.6 but i can't say that i'd benefit so much with the 2.1 update coz i can do everything i need to do with my x10 mini right now
2. battery life not great, mine can last up to two days sometimes though
3. its not amoled, its asking too much, but hey it would look great if it were amoled might make it slower though
ran out of cons ... well.. hope i helped even a bit
I can honestly say there are no cons except the battery life is not the best.
If you want a bigger screen dont buy a mini of course! lol
Big thanks my friends! It's for my wife. I think she will be ok with a smaller screen if the form factor is better than the "big male phones" as she says hehe.
The eclair is officialy coming end of October than?

thats what SE said, hopefully there'll be no further delays
Yep. I'm using it right now.
However, startup is very affected by application. There are alot of nasty app there which start as system starts, this lengthen my boot time. After that, it's just quick.
I think, it is the only Android device with best physical design. I know it has limitation with android version and screen size, but, it's worth the style, plus I'm not so enthusiast. So, it's so stylist.
For your information, I already rooted this device. So, should still be okay if you want to play with this device.
Very recommended.

This is SE we are talking about. They are worse than British Rail at delays: http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/10/01...e-november-plus-more-details-on-improvements/
PS: Sorry to give you a con, rather than a pro
Both of us have the pro version of this fone there a several pro and not many cons
Yes it has a small screen but it is a small device
We got the pro cause the keyboard makes it so much easier to type
About the only major con I can think of is the boot hasnt been cracked so we're stuck waiting for SE to realse an OS update. There are a few apps that wont work becuase they require 2.1 and wont run on 1.6
According to what I have been reading in this forum and X10-related sites, people expect SE to pack the latest technology into their flagship phones. I used to think of it this way too but unfortunately after having the X1 and X10 the experience was disappointing Then I questioned myself whats the true reason I bought them
The look
Yeap any SE phones that you can think of right now, their design is always outstanding. This is the image the company is trying to create to the public; to win the beauty award among competitors in market. If you want to buy a slick-looking phones your best bet is SE, they're damn good at it. People like good looking stuff that is why their phones still sell. But as a practical person you know looks aren't everything. SE's target market are probably the youngsters, who change their phones more frequent than other age ranges.
In a stereotypically point of view, SE phones are blondes.
So if SE has never had the intention to create a cutting-edge phone, its not their fault. If you're an X10 user who are currently not happy with how SE isn't doing a good job on the hardware/software department and keep up with the updates etc, blame yourself for not being able to get passed the look of the phone.
After seeing xperia phones' performance, it has become pretty clear to me that SE phones are not the choice for people who like to keep up with the latest technology and expect high performance from their phones. And SE are also not the best listener who will change their plan to meet our demands, because that is not the company's goal. As long as SE are still selling their phones it's very unlikely that they will repositioning themselves on the market.
Personally SE phones are now out of my list. They simply aren't future-proof enough and eol too quickly.
the new xperia Arc is pretty good
thumbs up.
Since part of it is Sony, I expect a good multimedia player. In fact, this is why I chose her instead of Google Nexus One.
I did extensive research and found out that the music player wasn't really that good
And when I saw Mediascape, I told myself she's the one for me!
Granted, the absence of an equalizer control is abit of a disappointment, but well, you win some, you lose some =/

Exactly, if I'm not mistaken it was the first android phone which has the most customized and best looking media player.
SE's designing department rarely fails
Yeap. A blonde, but I've dyed her brunette with XDA
I'm completely satisfied with her as it stands now. An official 2.2 would be a great addition but no sweat if it never arrives. The JiT patch + xRecovery + other tweaks have gotten my X10 to places I never had thought possible. I don't give 2 flips if my mate's Galaxy S scrolls smoother [laugh] or another mate's Desire has dozens of custom ROM's - the Xperia's physical looks and overall UI is what I picked her for - for the rest there's XDA.
That's my story.
The Hardware of X10 or Arc is good the Problem is only the Software. A X10 or Arc with Software from someone here created like zdzihu, jerpelea and all and this would be the best Phone becouse nice Desings, good Hardware and the difference to SE very good Software! The Arc has latest Software so dont know if it sucks or not but the Software on X10 withouth JIT+Root sucks.

That's what really scares me. SE loves to customize their products so that it looks even more like their own creation. That is why SE will not launch any WinMo7 phones since it doesn't allow customization.
X1 was my first SE. I signed a really expensive contract for it which i do not need because i was so drawn into the beauty of that thing. After learning my (1st) lesson I was willing to give SE another go, I bought it upfront so that I can easily move on to another brand if it does not live up to my expectation again.
Well again the x10 didn't live up to my expectation, but at least my wallet didn't go hay-wired this time

I dont know how good is the hardware but its probably not good enough. That spec already existed in some phones thats launched last year. Sure many people would say the duo core is over-rated and 1ghz is more than enough but we're still in the 1st month of the year. If this year mobile phone is all about duo cores, arc will again miss out a lot of latest apps
No App will require more then 1GHZ, this would be crazy. And when Dual Core turns Mainstream SE will have the Arc successor out already with Dual Core. Not even all PC Programs did use a Quad Core and Quad Core is out for many years so i dont think all new Apps will require a Dual Core now.
Ok. I just saw the "xda noob" video, and i feel like i wanna kill my roommate now, but i will hold it until i finish writing this
I am in the market to buy a new phone, but i don't know jack about android devices other than ICS is the new "BIG" thing, so i wanna get a phone that has one.
So, based on your respective reviews, which one of those should i get:
1- Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY(i just love this device, i heard that you can install ICS on it, but it is not built-in. Is that for the better or worse??)
2- Samsung Galaxy W
3- Song Ericsson Xperia neo V
or any relatively cheap and decent phone, i just don't want a phone that i will have to worry about too much.
As you can see, my price range is not that heavy(can't afford Galaxy S II).
Please tell me whether any of those has super-doper problems or not
Now off to killing my roommate.
Me:"Oh Brad....."
bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd go for a samsung or htc device, to get the most of your ics device you would probably flash a custom rom and those two have large communities behind them, not to mention great hardware
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
Don't know about Galaxy W, but both Xperias will get ICS soon (Neo V in 2 weeks, Play in 1 month). The hardware isn't the best (single core) but Sony does a awesome job optimizing it's software to it.
If you want to play games, go on Play, Neo V is a good if you want a all around phone. Besides the awesome UI (that, in my opinion, is WAY better than TouchWiz).

There appears to be a big lack of development for this phone. Just wondering if anyone expects things to pickup? I just come from a galaxy nexus and while I know that that it's one of the most favored phones from the developers side, I'm currently disappointed by the lack of options wet currently have. There is like only 3 ICS Roms and 3 ICS kernels (1 only has OC ability) to choose from.
Love this phone though.

It would be a dream if Huexx had a Sony Xperia S to develop a great rom like Zeus ROM for Optimus Black (i have one, trying to sell it). An incredible and organized work, with a great presence in the comunity, organized changelogs and constant updates! He also developed a nice kernel for CM9 (that original kernel from Cyanogen guys is bugged and crappy) that turned CM9 almost a usable ROM (not for me, since i really like listening music and podcasts with my phone). He did a really incredible work with Zeus! Should we ask him if he have interest in a Xperia S and donate one to him? XD haha! But really guys! Give a look at his work!

mainly because the people have got this phone on a contract there for the bootloader cant be unlocked as of this moment until setool or some other software manage to enable fastboot via testpoint. (exactly the reason i cant develop for this phone atm)
Soon many Arc/Arc S devs will come and support this phone.
Once we get CM9 and CM10 going you should see more development.

Hehehe on the arc a lot of dev,s are gone to htc/s3.
A few teenagers are left there.
I'll try some serving during the summer, we'll see.. that's why I'm switching ROMs and making all these changes all the time, I'm learning about the phone's limits...

this is what concers me too.. i started with galaxy s then galaxy s2.. but after that i switched to moto xoom, then galaxy tab 10.1 and then temprorarly galaxy ace.. i used samsung most of the time because of the unlocked bootloaders but i could never get used to the build quality and never got away from the screen burns of the amoled screen..
so my next preference was htc sensation XE.. this was the perfect phone for me definetely.. i had gread develeopment (since it was backed up by original sensation days), great sound quality and somehow quallcomm CPU and GPU was better than the arm based ones... i know the benchmarks say the opposite but i was using my sensation XE at 1.2 Ghz by setcpu and it was still fast enough and it never refused to play any game i thrown at.. but dust got under the screen after a few months and i sold it..
so my next was htc one x and it was a disaster with the greatest screen i have ever seen.. it was a joy to play with it but the problems were unsolveable for daily usage.. and no matter how much i love playing with my phone, messing things most of the time i need it as a ready and steady phone for daily usage.. with that heat, lack of S-off and other problems i sold it too..
so novadays i was looking at the galaxy note or s3 but then i decided to be realistic.. i love playing my games on the consoles and my computer.. so gamewise any phone would handle me because my expectations are low.. what i want is smooth web browsing, very good audio quality to listen lossless music and a good camera to shoot good photos and HD videos (not like a pro camera but at least sharp enough to make the moment freeze forever to remember later).. so i decided to go for nexus.. but then in a store i realised every galaxy phone had screen burns.. i know there are lots of ways to prevent it but still this time i made a promis and have to live with my next phone 1.5 year at least and i dont want to watch my leds die slowly and seperately in front of my eyes everyday..
so i decided to go back to sensation XE.. the most problem-free experience for me.. i care so much about graphic performance.. i think any CPU can handle anything novadays but GPU makes the difference.. so the adreno 220 in sensation XE was more than enough with the help of low-res screen and it was also OCable.. but then i saw a friends xperia s.. that changed everything.. until then i did not even look at any sony device.. not even accidentely..
now i really can not decide.. i have never been into any sony topics before so i am trying to learn but i guess on the development side xperia S is no match for sensation / XE..
so i am kind of scared about the high resolution of the screen.. XE is getting old and has only 768 mb of RAM but it has S-off and lots of developers will keep it as a legacy device.. besides i do not have to worry about warranty since there is S-off...
on the other hand soy seems to be promising with this brand new device and it seems like they use the hardware better than HTC.. it gives 37.5 FPS on the nenamark2 even with that 720p screen.. but is there any chance that i keep the warranty even after i unlock the bootloader... and what about the sound quality? i know sensation XE was not the best but at leats the sound is clear and there is beats audio.. and "most importantly" will there be any more development? i dont want to buy a device that will be forgotten after 3-4 months...
i know i wrote very long but i decided to ask.. because i have been reading for 3 weeks non-stop and i am more cunfused than i started.. its like android world's nature.. every device has their adventages and disadvanteges on each other.. like a perfect balance and it is really hard to choose sometimes..
^ you can re-locked the bootloader. and here in Indonesia, they (Sony's Service) dont even bother checking the bootloader f it's hardware problems (yellow tints). so i guess it's not an issue, but different country, different policy.
and for development.. SXS has, modded stock roms (2), cm9 and cm10 in development (bug fixing, etc), and official miui. what's more do you want? i prefer this than many development which only modified stock roms, modified miui, modified cm. it's just me though..
actually i prefer one good custom (or stock) rom than lots of roms.. but for example sensation and one x has a camera mod which let them shoot videos with 20Mbps (or 40) and take photos with 0 compression.. and i can tell; lowering the compression value looks like a must for xperia S too.
or you can OC the GPU to get more performance on 3d apps or games.. these are more important than having lots of custom roms in my opinion.. because since ICS came out every custom rom is similar to each other.
what i want to do is generally about unleashing the potential of the hardware.. like in the camera mod example.. i mean, the camera lens is still there but the software uses it much better with a little touch of a good developer..

Go for xperia s ...its actually quiet good
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Hi all!
First of all I wish to thanks in advance for any of you who may stop by, and provide some tips, experience
regarding the next matter, advice request:
My context is that I am completely noob regarding choosing android phone.
I want to get my first one, but a low budget, and I thought about Sony Xperia Tipo, cause it uses Android ICS,
and its hardware specs are some better than comparing to others of similar budget as LG Optimus L3, Samsung Galaxy Mini
( phonearena.com/phones/compare/LG-Optimus-L3,Samsung-GALAXY-mini,Sony-Xperia-tipo/phones/6941,5147,7151 )
I already discarded going for Vodafone Smart II, cause after reading its thread in XDA (around 30 pages), despite it was posible
to be rooted at first, in 1 month the new versions have been capped by cel companies (the recovery, the fastboot etc), at least for Spain, Portugal versions, therefore the customization is getting quite impossible, or very random depending the version, the cel company, ...
I think the main problem it is that this Xperia Tipo has been released quite very recently,
and after been searching through forum about info for rooting the Xperia Tipo, I can't find any info about it :S.
So my 2 questions are:
- it is expected that Xperia Tipo will be rooted in a near future ( and therefore customizable with
ROMs ...) ?
- Taking in count any answer to this question, would you suggest to go for it,
or by other hand go for Samsung Galaxy Mini (despite it has worse HW, Android GingerBread,
BUT it has quite plenty support for rooting and flashing with custom ROMs) ?
Again thanks in advance for any advice, and excuse the long post! )
Cheers!
ive used this phone after recomending it for someone else. Its a great cheap ICS phone dont expect it to be really fast or to play excellant games but it is really good for the price under £100!!!. would i recomend it to someone else after using it YES!!!! just remember to clear the apps your not using from the RAM by pressing the Home key and holding it and swiping it to close it so it doesnt get laggy.
as for root im not a dev but im safley sure it will be rooted in the future as its got a SD card slot so its easier to install CWM recovery etc.
BUT it is new out and dont expect it to happen any time soon i have the Xperia U and thats been out ages now and i still dont have root it just takes time for the devs to get the phones and then to start work on them.
hope it helped

Thanks for the tip!
Being cheap phone is ok, in fact that is what I seek for, a low budget phone as a start point, looking for customization.
Well, I could get that Xperia Tipo for £48, while the Samsung Galaxy Mini would cost £32. HW (CPU, inbuilt mem, display res) difference and phone release date diff, explain the price difference, hehe.
I was tempted to get Vodafone Smart II (for £48, I think), but atfer reading this whole thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722811 , I found that it is a lottery, if I could get it rooted or not :S
My main doubt is if going for Samsung Galaxy Mini cause its great support in matters of rooting and customization, or expect that Xperia Tipo will get some nice support here in XDA, in the future ...
A third choice could be LG Optimus L3 which has worse display res, same price as Xperia Tipo, and it has some support here at forum for rooting and ROMs.
Regarding your Xperia U, I think there is quite nice support in this site, forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1728 , so you mention you still having probs to root it ?
I have just returned my Tipo today due to very poor reception. If you just want a phone to make calls and send texts then it should be more than adequate but if you are going to use it for browsing or games I would find something with a stronger processor as it can be very laggy after using it a while - even in menus. However the touchscreen is responsive and the display should be OK for making calls and texting but I found it very washed out when viewing pics etc. On my particular handset I could hear electrical interference through the headphones but this could be related to my reception fault I guess. If you can I advise you try it out before making a decision - if ur in the UK o2 shops usually have all there the phones on display switched on. If music is important to you the sound quality is very budget. Also the camera has no flash or autofocus. Tbh if it wasn't for the Sony xperia branding on the front I would have though this was a cheap chinese no-name handset as Sony really have cut costs on this one.
I can't comment on the Samsung but I have read bad things about the lg. Have you considered the Motosmart from Motorola. It has a similar spec to the tipo but at least the camera has a flash and its root able (running gingerbread)

I bought this phone a week ago. It's very nice for the price!. It isn't laggy, It has plenty of ram. Obviously it isn't so fast as would be needed for a device to play games, and doesn't have a big screen (or an hires one) if you have to surf the web a lot, but handles with no problems at all divx streaming from my pc, using mx-player. It's clearly better than vodafone smart_II and my device hasn't reception problems at all. The battery (this is a good point in my opinion) it's 1500mah just better than the usual 1200mah used in low-end devices
The camera can make decent photos but hasn't flash or aufocus at all & no front camera just like all the cheap phones.
BTW i think it's one of the best ICS devices avaiable here in Italy for about 150€.
I tried samsung galaxy mini too and this experia is a lot better in my opninion.
I have been using the mobile for more than a month... It's perfect .. Go for it... It is the best in the range... I do use it a lot and it has held up against everything... Custom ROM will be available veeeeeeeeeeeery soon... It is already rooted...
