so, ive discussed IMO a very nasty thing about this phone I dont like. Of course my goal is to not let my battery die. But it has happened to me a few times. Im finding that after the battery dies, It takes me about 20 minutes to get the phone powered back on. Even if it is plugged into a power outlet. It simply does nothing for about 20 minutes after it is plugged in. Doesnt respond to power button, battery pull, etc.
So..I thought, maybe its a measure like blackberries where they wont power the radio back on until the battery reaches "x" percent. Doesnt seem to be the case either.
Ive had many HTC devices including the OG Evo, never seen anything like this...any ideas?
It's a mystery to me as well. It's happened a couple times to me. The only way I could power it on is by letting it sit on the charger for several minutes.
I think it might have to do with the way we rooted them. The developer mentioned an issue with letting the power go dead. It may not be a problem if you are in fast boot mode.
Hmmm...............

Mine has a problem powering on while it is charging. I'll have to take out the battery and unplug it to get it to turn on.
im finding out that people who are using cwm have a problem charging with power off. Im using twrp so Im sure this doesnt pertain to me..but its got to be something kernel or recovery related. im gonna ask over in vipers thread and see what kind of answers I get
Happens to me often as well. When I plug mines in, its usually good to go about 2 minutes after the red light stops blinking.

Damn, that sucks. I'm using TWRP I also suspect it may have something to do with clockwork. Although it could just be that the battery needs to charge to a certain point for the phone to kick in. Who knows.. LOL

I just ended up trading mine in for a refund. I found the 3d offered very little over the original Evo, and mine had worse reception and call quality than the original. I am now using a nexus s until a better phone comes out.

Are you rooted and have clockwork? There are issues with it with power when off, not charging and could be result kept it.
I don't have clockwork, have the other one. Name escapes me currently.

This is one of the reasons I am going for the SGS2. Most times I have to--have to--do a battery pull to get it to turn back on. Sometimes the SDcard too. Sometimes it doesn't even charge. Sometimes I charge it while on and wake up to a green light, phone locked hard off (requiring battery pull and sdcard pull), and when I boot it up (if I can) the battery is completely dead.
It's a major issue with the 3d. There have been a ton of threads. And BTW, it happens on rooted AND stock devices. My phone died last night. Took me 32 effin minutes to get it to come back on. One of the reasons I'm getting rid of it

2 days before release I stopped into my local Radioshack to play with the demo phone. I saw it turn on, we played with it. Powered off...and never came back on. One of my friends did that eventually too.
...can't say I'm not scared of that happening to me.

It's not a glitch. For some reason, HTC designed it that way. If the phone is off and rooted, but still connected to some sort of AC power or USB power, the phone is actually in recovery mode, however, the screen just appears black. You wouldn't even know it!! LOL.....but, if you pull the AC power or USB power from the phone, and wait like 5-10 seconds it will boot right up, no problem or issues.
Crazy, huh? It may be a bug with revolutionary root; I reported it to IMFDM or however you spell it and the above is what he told me.
If you noticed, before you were rooted, it wasn't a problem. Don't keep removing the case and pulling the battery, just wait a bit after you pull the plug, It will be good to. Trust me, I go through it regulary!!
Hope that explains it for you guys...and helps you out.

Actually I absolutely noticed this before rooting...but back then I barely ever powered off. Nothing to flash, no way to flash it. I'm pretty sure it was just the same except we had much much much less reason to power off and reboot.

I never did. I could power it on no problem before rooting. Didn't flash anything (I like Sense, what can i say...)....anyways, I noticed it afterwards and maybe it is true what that guy at AlphaRev said, it is the way HTC designed it for some weird reason....
Not a big deal for me though, now that he told me that...

this happens to my coworker that has this phone, and she is NOT rooted. And the above method never worked for me. Ive done that a million times trying to get it back on. Thanks for the tip though..
This has happened to me as well several hundred times it seems! It also did it when the phone was new. We had gone away on vacation like the week after the 3D came out, my phone had died while we were out, I plugged it into the charger, went to power it back on a couple hours later, and NOTHING! Probably took me a good 20-25 minutes to finally get it to come back on, with me eventually pulling the battery. This was stock at the time.
My 2 biggest gripes with the 3D, signal/call quality, and the power on glitch...

Everything was working fine...i know the battery is completely dead but like i said when i plug it in the charger the red light comes on for about 5 seconds then it goes off and wont come on again. He was gonna put a ROM on it and root it but i have to get it flashed to the metro network. He put it on mobilego i guess to backup my info but he had it on other programs, told me i needed it flashed first then gave it back to me.its been on the charger for about 2 hrs now and no charge still
Maybe he bricked it?

I would like to know if you can access recovery with the phone without a battery but with the charger on.
To access the boot menu, make sure the phone is off and press pwr + vol down. If you can access the recovery menu then there is still hope.

Sounds like battery issues... The phone thinks the battery is dead... Pull the battery out and leave it for about 20 mins or so, throw it back in, don't power it up and plug it in, let it sit for awhile(red led should stay lit) after like 20 mins turn it on

Had the same issue try plugging it into the charger for a couple mins remove the battery replace the battery plug it back in and repeat 6-7 times then hold power and volume buttons. If not leave the battery out for like an hour then try the first step. I know it sounds stupid but it worked for me. Hope it helps.

If this device has gets completely drained, it is painful to recover. You will have to try possibly 100 times various chargers, removing the battery etc.
The screen stayed black with an occasional light, but wouldn't power on at all.
It finally worked but you really have to be tenacious.
2 batteries 1 smirk.
edit--
i'd still be messed in this case, unless one also had the standalone charger...
now i'm terrified of letting the battery drain!
Knock on wood...but I've never had this problem.

u just have to let the led blinking light turn solid then give it a go and it should be good to go
Yeah I never had this problem and my phone has died several times. I just let the blinking light go solid and turn it back on. I did notice that my old LG chargers are a bit finicky with this phone though.
i though this happened to mine too. my phone died, i plugged my charger in but nothing happened. eventually the orange light came on, it just takes a while.

I have a standalone charger but it only charges to 97%. I hope it's not messing up my batteries.

Just let it sit on the charger for a few minutes.
The light will blink for a while, but it will still charge. If after 10 minutes the LED is still blinking, unplug the charger and plug it back in.
Run mine dead at least once a week. Which should be common practice. Never a problem. You should definitely let it charge a while before expecting it to fire back up.

Don't be "that guy".
I exchanged my one-week-old phone yesterday because of this: my phone went dead overnight, so I plugged it in in the morning and got nothing (no lights or anything). I left it charging for about 20 minutes while I got ready for work and still got nothing. When I got to work, I stuck it on the charger again for about 3 hours, and still got nothing. I went to the nearest Verizon store to see what they could do about it, and they didn't even look at the phone, just replaced it.
Works for me, I guess.
Have had this happen twice now (with oem batteries). My problem was though, left them on the charger all day, then they wouldnt turn on or do anything.
sometimes i wonder if the people who said their phones never came back on, actually just freaked because it didn't turn RIGHT back on and frantically started plugging it into tons of chargers thinking all sorts of things could be wrong, when really nothing was.
I have never had a phone NOT come back on, and this is with 2 years of HTC phones (at least 2 dozen phones when you consider all the replacements for various things here and there) and not a single one has failed to charge back up.
not saying anyone is lying, but when something happens that were unfamiliar with, its easy to start getting freaked out.
Think about it, would a manufacturer make a device that has a high tendency to fully discharge, "break" should it actually discharge? Sounds a bit silly...
Ran mine sead before and recharged no problem. You just have to plug it in and wait. It's not gonna turn on immediately. Let it charge.

In almost every thread on here, someone has to complain and tell the OP to search. There are thousands of threads to go through. Even after narrowing it down with a search they could still miss the answer to their question.
No, this is a problem I've had as well, twice in fact.
The first time my battery ran down from 99% to dead because I was unaware that it lost and was searching for a signal. I couldn't get it to turn on after hours and hours of charging. I finally took it into a Verizon store, and they used a different charger to get it turned back on.
It happened again last night. I was downloading something, the signal was lost, and the battery died prematurely. I used the stock charger to charge it overnight, but when I woke up this morning, the phone refused to turn on. I charged it with my HP Touchpad charger, and it came on about five minutes later.
The stock charger failed to revive the battery BOTH times.
So my solutions are, 1. don't let the battery die. But things happen and sometimes it's unavoidable. 2. If the battery dies and you can't get it charged after hours, try using a compatible charging cord from a different device to get it moving.
Things that are unavoidable happen, but I make darn sure my battery never dies 100% after something that happened with my Droid Charge.
It was custom ROMed and all tweaked out etc and I fell asleep one night when it only had about 10% left. It ran all night and was off in the morning.
When I plugged It in and started it up, every single app started force closing on me. This had never happened before and it was so bad the thing was totally unusable.
Luckily, I had made a nandroid BU the day before and restoring it fixed it.
No idea how true this is, but I've read a few other posts with people having this issue and they found that if you pop the back, pop the battery, plug in, insert battery and replace back. Then you let it sit for 20 or so minutes and it should start up again. Love to know if this resolves the issue for those having it though.
Here's what happened
I rooted, unlocked, and installed Fourth Bar Sense and Faux's Kernel 0.0.8 about a less than a month ago.
Installation is a success, no bugs, glitches, and everything runs smooth.
3 days ago I charged the phone to 100% and reset battery stats since I read a post claiming that it could boost my battery time.
Today the Amaze runs out completely out of battery.
Plug it up, LED turns orange and leave it to charge for 2 hours.
2 hours pass when I notice that the LED isn't on.
Get suspicious. Try to turn it on. Wont. Try to go into recovery mode (
It's volume down, and long hold power button down right?) Nothing.
Would be thankful if anyone could help out.
What recovery do u have installed? Its probably one of two things, either the recovery you have installed is the older one that does not support off charging, therefore since its dead you will have to find another phone to charge it with. Or 2, your battery is fried...

I have C.W.M 5.0.2.6.
I've had problems off charging it before.
That's going to be near impossible. No one I know has an amaze, evo, nor sensation.
Should I take it to Tmobile and see if they can do something? Perhaps exchange it for a new one? I have warranty.
Just try letting it charge longer. I had a similar problem and it took a few hours to charge enough to be able to turn on.

Well, it's been charging for about 8 hours now and still won't turn on.
Something similar happened to me, and after plugging it in, unplugging it, replugging it in, taking battery out, and doing that for a bit my phone eventually booted up. If no luck, go to a TMo store and tell them you need to borrow a battery or phone to charge your battery.

I had a low battery and had been using my phone at work. I thought I had about 10% left, but looked at my phone and it was off. No, problem I have a usb cord and plug into my work computer to charge it, but no luck. The charging display doesn't come on at all. So, I tried using the same cord with the ad adapter, but same thing. When I first tried it it looked like it was trying to load up, but froze up on the first screen that comes on. So, I pulled the battery, but I am getting absolutely nothing so far. It has been on the charger for about 30 minutes now. What gives? I think I am within my 14 day period at Best buy, maybe it's a battery or phone issue. Of all the days and times it had to be today when I have plans after work, but looks like I have a date with Best Buy instead now. any ideas?
Well that was disappointing. Thankfully it was replaced without a problem. I wonder if it was from the battery dying. I tested the old battery and it powered the new one. Not sure what happened or if that's a first. I hate I lost everything on it.

I remember on my NOTE 2 once my battery died while driving. I tried to plug in my car charger and power it back up but I guess the charger wasn't providing enough juice so I let it charge for like 20 minutes and the phone powered up.
Point is if the battery is totally dead it has to charge for a bit before you can power on the phone...even with a wall charger.
