Ok so for awhile I'd been using DJ Steve's Streakdroid 1.8.1 and recently upgraded to 1.9.1.
There is a problem that has persisted since my last update and I need to know if anyone has been having this problem and has found a solution to it.
When I try to install or update certain applications, the full download will go through, but my phone will inform me that (For instance Angry Birds) of "APPNAME" was unsuccessful.
I'd like to know what the problem is,I've been dealing with this for a couple of months now and it has crippled my phone in a way,not being able to download certain apps has been a huge disadvantage to me.
Any suggestions?
It's not just you.
Home > Menu > Settings > SD Card and Phone Storage
tap "Unmount SD card"
Go back to Market and initiate installation again. When install is complete, go back and "Mount SD card"
Some tips for market problems. With Angry Birds it seems to work if you move AB to internal storage and then update.

Hello
I downloaded an app called 'To Do List' and it created a folder called "download manager" on my SD card which i have since managed to delete.
However, everytime i boot my Hero, it takes a long time to start and always gives me the message that touch input settings is not responding and i have to force close. And then my keyboard does not work. Also, since installing this app my phone does not recognise the SD card. It says "Unavailable" in Settings > SD Card & Phone storage.
I put my SD card in a card reader and connected it to my PC and it recognises it and this is where i deleted the "download manager" folder.
Since then i have installed two different Roms and both are still giving me the same problem.
I have since deleted the app but i think the problem is there is a file called "download manager" in:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
When i click on it, it gives me the option to "Clear data" . So i click on that and it tells me it will permanently delete all of this applications data. However, when i reboot the phone the file is stiill there and running.
I'm no expert but i think this is what's causing the problem. Is there any way i can delete this file so it never comes back cos its really getting on my nerves that my phone isn't working properly.
I have done a factory data reset several times but still i have the same problem.
I have done the reset through Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset.
When installing the new rom i have done data wipe, cache wipe and dalvik wipe.
Still the little ****** doesn't go away.
Can somebody please help?
Thank you.
try an Sd card wipe as well when flashing a new rom.. including wiping your ext partition and then re forming.. that is if you are using an ext apps2sd
i'm reluctant to re-format my SD card because i have a lot of music/photos etc stored on there. i do have them backed up on my PC however it does take a long time to drag them onto my SD card.
I deleted the download manager file from my sd card so i'm guessing the problem file it stored on the phones memory.
Is there no way to delete files from the manage applications part on the phone?
Well I think you should give it a go.backup your photos and music and then re Copy them. Even if it does take up to an hour it maybe better than living with the annoyances
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Do you use apps2sd using the ext partition. Not wiping that would be a problem when flashing most new roms
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
i re formatted my SD card and flashed a new rom and all seems to be ok now. took me a while but it seems to have paid off. Thank you so much for your help.
Your welcome.. slap the thanks button if you feel like it (cheeky)
EDit .. : and change the title of your post to solved

1.0.1 does not work on dell...so you just know!cheers!
worked for me when installing with unmounted sd card
Unmount your sdcard, install app, mount sd card.
got it installed via PC: adb install app.apk
still have no idea how to unmount sdcard and install, if thats where there app is..because file explorers obviously cant read sd card if its unmounted..
yes I searched around on the subject...
but no worries I got it installed. very nice game, I hope we see more like this on android.
well it makes sense if your downloading from the android market like a good person
I've been playing it on a stock 2.2 without any problems. I put it on my sd card via Dropbox, and installed with astrofile manager. On level 4th with no problems so far.
i got it running fine on 345.. installed with zero issues. Fun but repetitive.
I'm on 318 and still can't get it to work. Installed 1.0, and when i launch game, it closes (not fc) automatically....any help?
I followed the trouble shooting steps , now I can't install.
Like posted before, unmount your card by going to Settings, SD card & phone storage, and choose Unmount SD card. Go back to market and install the app - it should work that way. Then repeat above steeps and mount the SD card and play the game
It's a shame we have to do these with each update as well!!
I had the same problem with a few other games from Market - even free ones so I don't think it's for copyright protection(?).
Thanks to the OP for introducing the fab game!
Has anyone got the .apk file to install an run when downloaded from the SD card? I am on 318 and have had no luck with 3 different versions.
try installing from adb,
turn on usb debugging.. go to home screen
put .apk in sdk folder, same folder as adb etc..
type this...... adb install guerillabob(or exact name of apk).apk
worked for me.. see first post
Does any1 know how to fix this? Please!!!

Unmount the SD, install then re-mount it.
I know about the mounting/unmounting thing, but people have had success by deleting the smdl2tmp1.asec file in the "android_secure" folder on the sd card. I have not been able to find this particular file in that folder (connected phone to pc, and found all other .asec files, but not this one).
Has anyone had any success with this? or are there any other solutions for us besides unmounting?
adb install app.apk worked for me with guerilla bob game
im not sure how to unmount sdcard and install
hope this.helps
For some reason some apps won't update properly.
First go to:
Menu->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
find the app and tap on the name. Then select the "Move to phone" button
Now hit the back button until you are at the main settings menu and then select SD Card & phone and tap on "Unmount SD Card"
Go back and mount your SD Card (same sub-menu).
Now update your app in the market. You can move it back to the SD Card when you are done updating if you wish.
That may work, except, I have uninstalled those programs (e.g Angry Birds) and reinstalled them from the market (after unmounting my SD card), which works, but now when trying to move them to the SD card, it says that it cannot....
This whole thing is getting rather frustrating, and it seems like there should be a deeper fix for this, instead of the hassle of unmounting, them mounting

You need to contact Google or the app devs then because this issue exists on multiple phones across multiple versions of Android.
Hello all,
I've been lurking here for a while, and recently went ahead and rooted my Vibrant.
I even more recently put on the big boy pants and flashed a custom rom. I was one of the lucky chosen that had kb5 2.2 froyo from Kies Mini on my phone, stock, so I had to go play with CWM Recovery settings and stuff.
I managed to get it working and flashed Bionix-V 1.3.1 and that went just fine. However, I pulled a blonde moment and forgot to update Titanium Backup (the free version) and tried restoring all three Angry Birds Apps+data.
I forgot the exact steps I followed following that, however, after updating TB, I was able to get Rio working, but now I keep getting the message "Angry Birds could not be installed. Free up some space and try again."
I think somehow the system thinks I've already installed it and is now borked.
Ooo... I think I recalled the steps I followed now. I had clicked manage applications and was able to uninstall Rio and then I updated TB, but didn't do the other two. I can't install them from the Market, it just fails.
Is there something I can do to fix it, and restore my angry birds? I know it sounds a touch pathetic, but I am an addict...
Thanks for any help!
Under Setting>SD Card and Phone Storage, how much space does it say under Application storage?
If it says 0.00 then you will need to Odin back to stock using "Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick" to set your partitions back up correctly. Just do a seach and you'll find it. Then, s15274n has a great guide to Odin back using Eugene's file HERE.
<quote> Under Setting>SD Card and Phone Storage, how much space does it say under Application storage? </quote>
Looking at it right now, and it says 1.63 gb available space.
Do you have App 2 SD installed? You can move your apps to your SD card to free up space.
If you already have done this, then try moving the Angry Birds apps back to the phone storage and try to download again. Sometimes it won't load or update Angry birds if it has been moved to the SD card. Then after you can put them back on the SD card.
do u have angry birds from amazon or android market? because if its amazon the apps can be very finicky from wht ive dealt with.
[Q] cant download some games properly, says"cannot install to usb storage or sd card"
I have archos 101 and I am having trouble installing several games. the games are frontline commander, piggy adventure ect. It will sometimes say "cannot install to usb storage or sd card" and sometimes on other firmware the same game may download and install fine and seem like it is going to start, and then just stop and go back to the home screen for no reason. So frustrating, I have tried to delete the temp file that starts with stml.l...(from police android forum) located in the android root folder, I tried moving apps to sd card, tried deleting all non essential apps. I have tried urukdroid, 2.4.81 firmware, and at least 3 other versions of firmware and the bull version of gingerbread. I have tried two different sd cards. I have even tried a full reset, full erase and back to factory settings and still the same thing. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.
It's a common Android issue:
