Menu sluggish when playing videos - HTC EVO 3D

Does the menu appear sluggish to you guys when watching videos on youtube or the stock video player? It doesn't pop up smoothly like when you press the menu button on the phone in other apps. I'm running senseless 1.1. Thanks for any insight into this.

interesting .. i haven't had this issue but i've also only been on the stock rom. i know on previous android devices, streaming video is generally one of the more intensive tasks performed on the phone. if there are any bandwidth issues it could cause studdering/sluggishness. the best way to limit the possibility of a bandwidth bottleneck would be to test it over wifi.
another possibility is the ROM and i'm not familiar with the senseless rom. perhaps in that specific rom's thread, you could pose the question and see if others on that specific rom experience the issue as there might be a bug or some overlooked tweak causing it.
best of luck and hope the issue gets resolved!

Can we hack Flash player to work in the background?

Hello all,
As maybe some know, Adobe's Flash player in Android has a feature. The object doesn't activate if it is not in focus (or maybe touched?). This seems to be a security or battery performance related improvement as Adobe puts it.. However, it is really annoying.. Because;
You can't listen to most of the radio stations, or playlists even, if you send them to background. I love to listen to some of my favorite music while reading the daily news.. As many other have pointed out in the following threads:
Thread ID: 854896, 672639, 543354, 489142
I am writing this question here, as this is an Android Flash player implementation issue and this behaviour is by design. There may be many ways to modify the Flash player, or modify the browser to make the Flash Player act as if it is in the foreground even if it is not..
So can anyone work on this? Or maybe we can submit some kind of CR to CyanogenMod issue list? Better yet, how can we submit this problem to Adobe's developers/designers?
Or maybe a hacker has already read this and has solved it already
Thanks a lot..
Maybe this works on other (Sense?) phones, but I know this worked on my 3.29 stock rooted Evo. In the browser you can hit menu > windows and then open a new window, and then close the new window. Now you will still be in the windows view, but are "hovering" above the window you have your Flash content in. Now you should be able to hit the home button and do other things.
I would suggest just using a real music player/radio app.....

x2... I think most, (if not all) standalone music/radio apps will run happily along in the background.

True, but most (if not all) standalone music/radio apps won't play arbitrary flash content online.
I know somebody who likes to listen to a particular TV program, and typically networks only make these available via flash. I'm sure if he works at it he can extract the audio on a computer or find it on a torrent or something, but it would be nice if this were at least an option.
Of course, compared to a normal app I imagine it would suck down a lot more power.
I've found a way to have a Flash webpage running on the background without needing to hack Flash Player on ICS. I stumbled across an unadvertised "feature" of the Dual Screen Browser app by Curry Cat v2.1.
All you have to do is launch the Dual Screen browser, do a google search for the flash web page you want, and once the audio starts playing just hit the OS Home button and the audio keeps playing in the background. It blew my mind.
The device I got this working on is a stock ASUS Transformer TF101 w/ ICS (v4.0.3)
Dual Screen Browser has a bunch of FC and seems to be heavily reliant on the stock browser some how. If you get FC when trying to launch it try the following:
Open stock Browser, press OS Home button, then relaunch Dual Screen Browser
Turn internet connection off, then relaunch Dual Screen Browser
Dual Screen Browser appears to be better optimized for flash/html5 video playback in portrait mode. I had two flash videos playing at the same time on each screen without much of a performance hit.
When in landscape mode pick the left most screen. It plays movies better without cutting off part of it.

Wow, I even forgot that I asked this question. But your solution seems very promising. Well, I'd still like to see HTML5 work in the background to (for the obvious reason that I want to play a youtube playlist while screen off ) Well if I'd have to install a separate app, I think there are other players that does this already.
Thanks anyways.. (Sorry for the late response)
I am using "nextvid" to play youtube videos on the backgroud, no need for hacking it does it by default( free app)

[Q] YouTube App Lag?

When I use the Youtube app on my 3vo, it scrolls smoothly and all, until I begin playing a video on it. Once a video begins playing, when I try to switch tabs when holding the phone in portrait mode, the transitions suddenly become choppy and laggy, whether it be scrolling through comments, or pulling down the notification bar, the entire phone seems to lag once a Youtube video is playing, regardless of it being HD or not. Is anyone else having this issue or have a possible solution? Thanks (Stock ROM)
Maybe upgrade YouTube app.

I believe it already is the newest. 2.3.4 from the market. Do you think it could be a device issue? I've tried wiping 2 times, and the same issue is happening.
No its not device issue. What r u streaming YouTube videos 3/4g or WiFi??
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I use WiFi and 3G mainly, but I've experienced the issue regardless of the connection type, and also whether it be in HD or SD format.

Ok are you rooted? Have you cleared cache and data on the app??
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I am not rooted, I also cleared the data and cache as you suggested, but I have the same issue. I noticed that when I pause the video, however, it seems to respond faster.. Not as fast as no video playing, but a noticeable improvement over when the video is playing and I attempt to scroll.
I hate to be a downer but this phone does not handle a few things very well, namely the youtube app and it also is slow as hell when you get thousands of texts. I think this is a sense issue personally.
I thought Sense may be the cause to it. I'm not sure if other people are experiencing the issue though, whether it be that a custom ROM solves it or my device is just 'special'..

The problem you are experiencing is universal. Scrolling while watching a video causes lag in the youtube app.

Thank you. I thought it was just my device that did this, because there were no other threads which mentioned this, which I find strange because my old HeroC did it smoothly, and now the 3VO is struggling with it. Do you know if a custom ROM or kernel resolves this?
I have the same problem as well. When playing videos in the youtube app, I get a lot of lag.
I can actually navigate the desktop version of the youtube site with less lag than the youtube app.

I've experienced this problem on numerous ROMs. In regards to kernels, I don't even know. I doubt that a kernel will eliminate the lag, but I'm not one to say.
I am also getting this issue with both youtube and vevo app. When i play videos from my sd card with mx video player, they play flawlessly. So hopefully when ics comes out this problem is fixed.... :/

This is normal and I think it has been posted a few times. Basically it's the lack of gui hardware acceleration on Android gingerbread. If you try out an ICS rom you will see its smoother. Probably not as smooth as you like but smoother than it is on gingerbread.
Don't think its normal. YouTube works fine for me. HD and normal videos play without an issue. Upload and download works fine as well. I'm running SteelH's rom with Chads#50 kernel. Youtube has never giving me a problem in the app or VIA stock browser. So I don't think it has to do with the hard ware acceleration at all. My wife has my old hero and YouTube works fine for her as well. Also my sister and brother both have the EVO4g and youtube works fine for them. Have you guys tried a different version of the app ??? Like an older ver?? Or a newer one ??
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
I get this issue too, no way is it normal as this is the first phone I have used to have this strange behaviour.

Yeah its weird for me because all my movies and videos that are loaded onto my sd card work great. No lag or issues but when it comes time to YouTube or vevo and even vimeo.... It will lag or skip the video around the end or halfway but the sound keeps playing.. Very frustrating.

If you try the YouTube app on ics it works fine and no lag...
I wish I could go on ics.... But I use the camera and 4g a lot haha

[Q] Jellybean roms - bugs?

Hi guys.
Just wondering what the state of JB is since I haven't upgraded my ROM in a while. I've been running CounterShrike 3.0.1 for months and it's been good, but I'd like to try Google Now and whatnot. Some specific questions about the "unofficial CM build" -- I don't really want all the tweaks and whatnot on other roms:
-Does Google Music work properly?
-Is there still artifacting when watching videos?
-Does video chat work?
-Does chrome work well?
-Less/more laggy than CM9?
Thanks

-Music players work but when you start Google music or Apollo they crash on the first try of playing a song, than it works normally when trying again (after the last update Google music seemed to have been fixed for some people)
-yes there's video tearing
-i haven't tried video chat, so wait for someone to answer that
-havent tried chrome but the default one works amazing. I tried Firefox on other ROMs and I think default is best but I'm sure it will work fine
-I find it smoother all around except for gaming. Cm 10.1 is not completely done so gaming isnt the best, it depends on what game your playing though. Some of my games are smooth as butter and some others are choppy
If you do choose a cm 10.1 ROM the unofficial one is good and its updated every 4th night

Yep planning on going with unofficial. I hardly watch videos on my phone so that doesn't really matter. Don't game either. Google Music is pretty crucial but if it works after closing and reopening that's fine.
Thanks for answering!

The video camera is hit or miss also, something to think about if you use it regularly.

Yeah I've heard it sometimes produces corrupted files. I've never recorded a video on my phone so that's cool
Video chat works also.
Video cam can be fixed with a few things. Right now my builds are just randomly rebooting but so far cam looks good.
Apollo(default music) gives me problems every now and then. But Google Play works great.

[Q] Variable Speed YouTube Playback?

Ok. I just got through searching the forums and the net and came up empty handed so I am going to guess that this is not possible right now. But just in case I'm wrong, I thought I would post my question here where the experts live. Here's the question:
Q. Shy of downloading the video and playing it back with a different application, is there any way to change the playback speed of a YouTube or embedded video upon first launch in Android?
I have explored the html5 route and no Android browser I found can do this.
I also explored some different applications claiming to offer this but none were actually able to change the video playback speed without first downloading the video.
I have something like this for my PC now. It would be very nice for my GN3.
Thanks.

I really want to know this too. Surely a solution exists now?
The latest Firefox for Android supports variable speed playback on pluralsight.com. Nothing else I tried would.

Youtube app lagging like crazy on ALL quality modes

Hi guys,
I'm using a S6, G920i on XtreStoLite's latest ROM. Recently, I found that youtube videos stutter like mad (read: not buffering, but stuttering) regardless of the quality mode ( from 140p to 1440p). This is also despite the fact that my WiFi connection is hitting 150mbps ul/dl on Speedtest.net.
Have tried uninstalling YouTube and reinstalling everything but to no avail.
The problem does not exist if I stream via Chrome - but the problem is I can't set the quality within Android Chrome.
Anyone else facing the same issue? How do I resolve it?
Thanks!
I have also the same problem. The only solution I found is clicking the home button, go again to YouTube and repeat this sometimes. Then it runs fine
YouTube-App is lagging
Thank me, by hitting the Thanks Button

Thanks, but it didn't work for my case. The stuttering is still present regardless of whether I click to home or reboot.

hello?????
I think you have a problem with your rom.
You can decrease lcd density to make it faster and smooth.
You better increase ram management.
