So the gingerbread update for my carrier arrived last weekend, and I tried to update with Kies. Everything was normal with the update, until the progress bar stuck at 9%. After an hour with no progress, I removed the USB cable to give Emergency Recovery a go.
Emergency Recovery also failed as I tried to restore the firmware with Kies following the on-screen instructions (pressing power button to get into recovery mode), pressing power and home buttons, and with the 3 keys (download mode). No success.
I was able to get into download mode several times and try the emergency recovery again and again, but today I was no longer able to boot into download mode, I press the 3 buttons but the phone won't boot at all. It seems I can still get into recovery mode though.
I also tried to follow the instructions on the How to Unbrick thread, but Odin stuck at "<1>setup connection..."
Anything else I could try before I send my Ace to service?
Thanks in advance!
same problem here, after 2 hours still is on 0%.
any solution?
i unroot my phone with superone click before update.
pd:forgive my bad english plz.

Hi guys!
I was trying to flash froyo on my galaxy s with odin (original ROM eclair 2.1, bought the phone 2 weeks ago). To do so I got it into download mode via "adb reboot download" cause buttons combinations dont work on my phone. I checked the Re-partition in Odin, set PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC, pressed start and Odin got stuck at "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET" (after it did "file analisys.." and "set pit.."). After 15 minutes nothing happened, computer and phone weren't doing anything it seemed, so I turned the phone off.
I tried to boot but all I could get is the image of a phone and a computer on the screen. I tried pulling out the battery and get it into recovery and download mode with buttons combination but it doesn't work. Odis and adb won't find it if I plug it into the usb.
I believe there must be a way to flash the original ROM back!! I have a backup done with ROM Manager (ClockworkMod), and I have SDK & JDK installed on computer if that could be useful (I know nothing about them though). Anybody can help? Anything guys, I really appreciate and I thank you very much!

I had this. Odin got part of the way there and then froze. You have to get into Download mode. You can do this by holding Volume Up (down if that doesn't work) and home key (keep holding), and then holding down power for 7 seconds for a forced reset. Let go of power as soon as the screen goes blank and it should start directly into Download mode.
Make sure you have Odin v1.3 and try to reinstall 2.1 or 2.2. It worked for me after that.
i have the same problem plaese help ???
Hello guys. My phone don't turn on when i press power button, VOL UP/DOWN buttons don't work also.
1. I flashed my vibrant with Unofficial TMO 2.2 Froyo ODIN *2E Recovery +SD Fixed Updated*11/09/10*. Don't know why after what i can't access download mode by 3 buttons. I had Android System Recovery <3e>.
2. After that i try go to download mode with battery out method, and it was fine. Next step was downgrade firmware to T959UVJE8-factory-final-MS_Guru.
3. After that i had "Android System Recovery <2e>" message
4. I tried to reinstall back Unofficial TMO 2.2 Froyo ODIN *2E Recovery +SD Fixed Updated*11/09/10* but something happend and Odin software Failed and i had "picture phone ! pc".
5. I tried both methods to go to download mode and after half an hour method with battery out and pushing vol up/down buttons accepted.
6. Then i tried to reinstall original firmware one more time. And it was fine. You can see screenshot in attachment.
7. But my phone after flashing turns off for rebooting and died.
When i trying to connect it with pc or charger nothing happens. Buttons don't work. Nothing on screen. Battery out not helped.
What to do??????
Did you try holding volume up and down and plug in usb cable method to get into download? I'm kind of wondering why you had those other files in there. The guides I saw just had the sit and the pda tar.

I think mbrock meant pit, not sit.
And yes, you only need the .pit and the .tar files.

have you tried eugene's froyo that doesn't brick then go back to stock?
when going back to stock you only use the pda and the pit. that seems to be you problem.

Eugene_SD+2E_JK2_Froyo Download >Vibrant_Full_Froydin_AND_2E_Recovery_+SD_Fixed
Unzip Download
&
Load s1_odin_20100512.pit into .pit at top of ODIN
&
Load Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5 into PDA of ODIN
P.S. Tommorow i'll try to modify USB cable with resistors. Hope this will help me.

Maybe this info will be helpfull. In this situation with dead Samsung Galaxy, Vibrant, Captivate only one ressurection. You need to open your mobile phone and reflash boot loader using RIFF Box JTAG which you can find only in service center. And you need to save your IMEI information which you must read from this address 0х80000 and this lenth 0хA80000. Thats all.
i tried that method you decscribed , now my phone is in MOde that say "power reset or unknown upload mode" any clue about how to get into download mode from this. odib detects my phone in this mode but i don't think it will load the software since it is not in download mode.
Phone charged up overnight, and after half an hour of listening to music, I noticed the battery had fallen to around 30%. I then rebooted the phone, but it did not boot up. Cannot seem to enter any recovery/download mode.
Rooted running the Omega ROM. Haven't done any modifications to it for a good couple of weeks. Any chance of salvation?
maybe the battery gone bad? did u try with other battery?
Maybe, but I forgot to mention i somehow entered emergency recovery mode earlier (once) which would suggest its not? How do you enter that mode?
i've heard of that emergency recovery mode, but never actually seen it or know exactly howto trigger it. try vol up+vol down+home+power
Thanks that worked.
Now in 'emergency dload mode (arm9 mode)'
Where do I go from here?
so hows that recovery looks like? got any menu selection like normal recovery such as wipe data etc? if got, try to wipe data.
Nope not like a recovery mode. All it is is the Samsung logo with the 'emergency dload mode' text...
frankly we all here doesnt know exactly what the purpose of that emergency recovery mode.
try to connect your phone with odin and see its detected. maybe u can flash stock rom from it.
if it doesnt work either, u can try to force the device into normal download mode and flash with odin. first take off the battery, wait for around 5 seconds, hold the three button combination for download mode and while u still hold those three buttons, reinsert the battery. it should go into download mode and u can flash stock rom via odin.
Thanks for help. Will give it a go, and let you know the results....
If it treat it like a normal download mode, am I right in thinking I just follow the normal procedure for flashing via ODIN?
Ie, follow this tutorial: http://acetips.wordpress.com/2011/09/28/upgrade-ace-odin/

Got drives and firmware downloaded. But ODIN won't recognise my phone? Any suggestions?
Odin won't flash phones that in Emergency download mode.
Have you tried normal download mode?
P.S: Emergency Dload mode = Vol Up + Vol Down + Menu + Power
Nomal dload mode: Vol Down + menu + power

Thanks for everyones help.
Managed to get it to the 'downloading' text, where I eventually managed to flash a stock ROM via ODIN, so I'm now unrooted.
Problem still remains where it won't boot up without being plugged into a power source, so taking it back tomorrow. I believe the battery somehow died and may have taken something else down with it...
Hi everybody,
I was on Bionix V Fishman Mod Final Update 3 until yesterday. I then decided to flash CM9 latest nightly rom so I disabled voodoo and flashed it.
The rom worked but I wanted to go back to another rom. I couldn't enter recovery mode through the button combos so I entered with the adb command.
I tried flashing two different roms but I got this error:
Amend scripting (update-script)is no longer supported
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted.
Then after a couple of more tries in the recovery I tried reboot the phone but then it got stuck on the first screen, the one that came with GB bootloader I installed a while back.
Download mode doesn't work either. Is there any thing I can do?
Thanks everyone!
hi,
AFAIK you can go back to stock using Odin. Try these steps to go back to download mode.
Open Odin
Pull the battery out
Plug the usb into the computer (dont connect the other end to the phone yet)
Now hold BOTH volume keys (UP + DOWN) and plug the usb to the phone
While pressing volume buttons insert the battery
OR try One-Click Unbrick
You can FIND more about going back to stock [including links] from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13132341#post13132341
tc
I can't enter download mode using that method.
One-Click Unbrick didn't work, It gave a message saying : Is your phone plugged in? is it in download/softbrick mode?....
How do I know if it's soft brick? The only screen I see says: "ANDROID -AdyScorpius-"
Any other ideas?
Do you have samsung USB drivers installed
EDIT: If none of above works Im sure anybody will help you out..
I hope so... thanks anyway haarsh!

Listen to haarsh, he is correct. Just so you know, you do not have to have the Android with the shovel in the download screen to be in "actual" download mode. When you have Odin open and do the steps above, what you are really looking for is that Com: screen to light up Yellow. Then you are in download mode.
FYI, as long as you have power and are at the very least getting to the bootloader screen, you can recover. Just tread lightly bc screwing with the bootloaders is one of the sure-fire ways to HardBrick your device.
woody to the rescue... thnx brother
tc
I tried to do that now and the only response the phone does is show that litle circle of radial lines which means he is charging.
Odin doesn't recognize and the com doesn't light up.
Just curious but what two ROMs did you flash that threw the error in your OP? Were they ICS ROMs or did you try and play it safe and flash Fish's Bionix again?
Keep trying to get into download mode by using the key combo of Volume Up and Power (since you are on GB bl's). You have power so you can get out of it but it might take more than a few tries.
Edit:
***----> I am having all kinds of trouble with my browser today at work, so if I don't respond right quick, that is why. But I'll get back to you or some others out there can help.
OK I got into download mode! as a matter of fact I forgot about this method of just volume up and power and it succeeded the first time.
Thank you very much to the both of you, sorry for all the trouble...
My phone is hard bricked and won't go into download or recovery mode.
I've been running HD10.2 for a while wanting to update to HD15, so I was trying to go through the process listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579278 to update from ME7 to MJ7.
I uninstalled SafeStrap successfully and then was trying to use Odin 3.09 to add the MJ7 full wipe here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507253.
Everything seemed good, Odin detected phone, phone was in download mode, and the process started but eventually showed a write error and failed. When the phone rebooted, it gave a message saying that "Firmware upgrade encountered an error. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
The phone turned off and does not react to any button pushes, so it won't go into download or recovery mode. There seems to be SOME life left since when I plug it in to the USB my PC makes a noise, and then subsequently if I hold the power button my PC makes the noise that sounds like something is being disconnected from the usb, but odin and kies don't detect it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just look into JTAG? I bought a jig but it won't get here until next week.

I did a 10 minute pull and there didn't seem to be any change. Nothing happens when holding volume down and power with battery, without, plugged in, or not plugged in.
