Many people do just in case since something happens. Just backup everything first!
IMO...

i would. if you don't, you might get stuck in a bootloop. some roms don't require you to (ie...CM updates). but even then, it doesn't hurt to do it after so many CM updates. now, if you don't want to lose your data, i'd recommend using titanium backup...if you haven't already.
Rule of thumb would be as follows:
Wipe Dalvik.
Wipe cache.
Factory/data reset.
Flash ROM.
Wipe Dalvik.
Wipe cache.
Factory data/reset.
This should keep you safe. Only takes an extra minute to do.
Some ROM's will wipe for you, but I always do a manual wipe first anyway.
hey thanks alot guys just wasnt sure but i dnt ever see the wipe dalvik option am i missing something

Are you doing a factory data/reset, wiping cache and wiping dalvik right before rom flash and immediately after. Doing this should correct your issue. If not, then something is internally wrong.
I use the wipe versions of the rims

You still need to manually wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik then install the rom and immediately wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik again.
Try those steps and see what happens.
wipe dalvik is in the advanced menu of CWM
When full wipe roms came out it was thought that it would take care of the wiping for you, but many have learned the hard way to manually do it as well and 9 times out of 10 it fixes the problems.
I have never had one rom give me a problem and Im sure its because I follow these steps.
*****try "fix permissions" with CWM or Rom Manager also******

Michaelatrix do what Dirtburgler say. I just had the same exactly problem after flash Cherry rom and after I read this thread and follow what Dirtburgler say I don't have the problem anymore.
Edit: My problem was different. My error was to try to restore a SMS backup from Titanium backup. I never do a full restore from Titanium just apps and SMS/MMS/Dialer but I guess that SMS/MMS/Dialer has a different version than Cherry use (I was using 2.3.4 stock).
Dear community,
I have a SGS2 and i have the PMv2 By foxhound and i noticed some functions werent working properly, like panning while holding screen items and the clock and weather not showing up nor staying in the right place in the lock screen when set in display under settings. Also in kakao talk auto caps or the up button once wont keep caps for first word on.
Ive tried wiping D-Cache and cache but it hasnt helped much. Should i try for a reinstall with CWM?
If so the basics is to wipe both cache - install - reboot - wipe again - reboot and everything should be ok?
Maybe i should reword it.
Should i do a clean wipe (factory wipe right?) clear the cashe and d-cache and reinstall PMv2.0? Will it fix the problems i have? Or is it known issues with the ROM?

I've tried asking but I think there are too many people discussing that it feels like you are being drowned out.
Also there's a new Rom in the thread but its not psychomantis. Is it recommended to update to it?

i was using Saurom ROM at 1st and it worked perfectly for my galaxy note i717(this was my 1st attempt to root my phone and install a new rom), and i saw a better ics rom ("Onlyone" ics rom) at rootmygalaxynote.com, i flashed the new ics rom into my phone and it stuck at the samsung logo. i tried to re-install the ics rom again and same thing happened. So, i go back to re-install my old Saurom ROM. But when the phone get into the main screen, it is extremely laggy and eventually freeze, most of the cases, the phone reboot itself. i m so scare that the phone is not able to read any rom now. and i am new to smart phone, can any Brother and Sister in this Forum can me get through this? i m so depress
Your issue is you forgot to wipe. No not that kind of wipe. LOL. Go into recovery (CWM) and do a "wipe data/factory reset". Then install the OnlyOne ROM again.
I responded to this thread that you duplicately created in the general section. Fyi don't create two threads in different sections anymore

when i got the cwm recovery, the 1st thing i did was wipe all data and factory reset, and then i also wipe "cashe"<---wrong spelling probably. and then i went install the rom. anything that i have missed? is there any possible data corruption during the download of the OnlyOne ROM?
Data corruption is possible. You may have also downloaded an older version. Download the ROM again from this forum in the Dev section. There is a thread for it. Do your wipes again first. Then install it again. Let it settle before restoring anything. ROM performs well.
Hey
Just remember that when flashing onlyone rom it's sit on the samsung logo for a while its ok for fist time instal of rom as long as samsung logo is flashing ur fine good luck

Modem and radio will not be changed, so you don't need to reflash them.
Since you have to wipe before flashing CM10:
·Contacts should be synced with Google. Just in case, use Go Backup (or another one, but Go Backupis great and free) to backup.
·Pictures/videos will be in the internal/external SD card so they won't be deleted (don't wipe internal/external sd card...).
·SMS/MMS will be lost too. Use Go Backup to backup.
·Apps: Use Go Backup to backup.

Hey,
You can theoretically just flash CM10 over CM9 and keep all your data... I suggest doing a full backup of CM9 first though. As for your modem/Radio, no need to reflash... You can keep the one you'Re running as long as it suits your needs.

In a i9100, not so much (no hwcomposer so not Project Butter), athough it works great (I use CM10 since first day in i9100).
i9100G has HWcomposer working so everything is smooth and has official nightlies, so I'd say definitely yes. Anyway, just try. If you don't like... flash CM9 back!
Best luck

The firsts versions of CM10 required wipe data (factory reset) before and after flashing.
Before flashing, wipe data (factory reset) and cache (I think factory reset also wipes cache), and if you wish, advanced->Wipe dalvik cache.
Later versions don't require wipe after anymore (I don't wipe after flashing anymore), but you lose nothing wiping after flashing if you want to be sure...

Then if i choose "cm-10-20120824-NIGHTLY-i9100g.zip", i must do a "wipe data/factory reset" and a "wipe cache partition", after i install my cm10.zip, and after, if i want, i can do again the same thing "wipe data/factory reset" and a "wipe cache partition".
And normaly, i won't lost data in my sdcard and external sd ?

Just wipe data/factory reset.
And no, you won't lose data in sd memory.

Good luck.
By the way, many of your questions already have thousands of replies over the internet and you "should" read and try before asking "simple" things. But anyway...
I tried CM a while back (WAY back, actually - pre-ICS) for the i717. It wasn't bad but after a while I went back to stock because for me it just 'felt' better. Hard to explain it other than that. In any case, I've been on full stock ever since and was happy with it.
Then Official JB comes out from the carrier and my phone is laggy as all hell and it's gotten to the point of royally pissing me off to the point that I'm considering my options.
My question is this: Do we know the cause of the lag? If so, is it fixable via custom kernel or something similar, or do I need to go to a whole separate ROM to get away from the problem (and are there any in particular that are recommended if that is the case)?

I don't recall, but if I had to venture a guess I'd say probably not. I followed the above thread to the 'slow 4.1.2' and disabled everything I could on that list and did a restart, not sure which one did the trick but now it's nice and speedy.Hoping it stays this quick and isn't just a factor of not a lot built up in memory yet. I'll try a factory reset if it bogs down again.
there could also be some existing apps that continue to run in the background.
you might either go into app manager and force close them and clear their cache individually
OR
maybe reboot phone every day or two. clearing any cache build up. kind of a preventative maintinence thing.
if you ventured new ROM, may I suggest Padawawn.
every phone is a bit different, but I have had the best results ever
4.2.2 ROMs perform better IMO. Good luck
™
i prefer stock as well and was also experiencing lag until i found the right setup for myphone. started out by debloating. then flashed phasekernel_jb.3 and use setcpu or whatever tuner app you prefer and set governor = fantasy/scheduler = sio/min = 384/max = 1728. all phones are different so you may need to try different settings to find what works for yours. i have not had any lag since.
Here is what worked for me. I had the same issue as you and posted it a while back. This also greatly increased my battery life. I suggest that if you are rooted go ahead and wipe the device - in fact do it twice! You will have to reinstall of you your apps but it got rid of all the lag and almost doubled my battery life.

You wipe the caches. If you wipe system, it will delete the OS and the data wipe will wipe your data of course.

It can be done by pressing at the same time Volume up and Power buttons until the display lights up, which is when you have to release Power button, while at the same time you should keep pressing the Volume Up button.
