[q] help on a shw-m250k for philippines - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Good day to everyone.
Could you help out with a unit I bought which is a S2 SHW-M250K? I'm a residence in the Philippines but unfortunately the device is limited in certain features. Like creating a SMS is limited to 90 characters and thus prompts MMS not available. Upon the call feature, is always goes to autoroaming. Its really annoying and a hassle for me.
Is there a way I could totally reformat the whole system and install a new one that is compatible here in the Philippines or like the standard look of a S2 l9100?
If there is, could you give a step-by-step procedure cause I really don't know the "how-to" with phones, flash ROM or anything that pertains to his matter.
Hope for a assistance.
Thanks.
Jan from the Philippines

i have the same phone in the same country and i don't have either of your issues. the reason is because i flashed a stock i9100 rom to my shw m250k so now it's basically an i9100 phones with an antenna but doesn't have an fm radio. anyway, if you haven't tried flashing before i suggest you read up on some guides. there are some here and more can be found on google. i don't want to give you one myself in case your phone somehow gets bricked (almost impossible though) btw the rom i'm using is the european kg6 one. no issues at all
OT: since we have the same unit, i want to know how long your battery lasts. mine just barely touches 12hrs before it's completely drained, i don't know if it's an isolated case or if all m250k's are the same. i'm using a replacement 1800mah battery though, so that might be the reason. i just don't want to spend money on an original one yet just to find out it's the same story.

hi fyre31,
GREAT!!!! Really appreciate your technical advice on this predicament. Though I don't the "how-to's" on flashing or rooting on this device.
Haven't tried the unit yet but if ever I flashed it I'll give you a feedback on the battery thing.
Thanks again.
Jan

We have the same phone in the same country, regarding battery life, mine got 30 hours with the stock battery on normal use, I'm currently using LiteningRom v5.0

hmm guess i'm gonna have to get myself an original samsung battery then. thanks for sharing

yeah, I guess the rom and kernal is the main factor with regards to battery life, and also I forgot to mention, I disabled fast dormancy on *#9900# and wipe battery stats in recovery mode

flash another rom! go to sgsII android development, you can find a lot of custom roms out there with the "how-to" and step-by-step procedure, good luck!

You have no idea, this post of yours is my savior! I tried different roms and they caused my phone to have a boot loop. Now I have Lite'ning Rom v6.1 and it's rooted and has a custom rom without the bloatware in one go. Loving it so far!
For those who need help, these are the steps I followed (don't blame me if something goes awry on your phone though...)
Follow the steps here: http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/04...ng-odin-and-superoneclick-step-by-step-guide/
Except! After Step 2, press the volume up button. And then On step 5, instead of the "XWKDD_insecure.tar", replace it with the latest Rom you can download in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274.
By the way, if it wasn't obvious, I have the same predicament as everyone else. I bought the phone before it was officially released in the Philippines, and it was imported from Korea. My phone has an antenna... and it serves nothing other than make my friends laugh because it makes the phone look like some cheap brand, haha My version had M250K before I installed the custom rom.

It was very very diaspointing for me too when i first bought my Hd2. I had to reemove battery at least once a day. I had to restart all the time. Booting was taking a long time. Battery life was so poor. It was very laggy almost everytime.
All of this were until i started using minimalistic custom ROMs. Now everything is much more stable and reliable. So i dont complain anymore. Just do the HSPL and install a light weight ROM + latest radio. I also recommend MIUI Android builds.
When i tried to install a Custom Rom my HSPL version was 2.10 which wasnt support and it said "bad id model" . but if you could assist me in doing it correctly i would appreciate it
İf you have T-mobile US version with 1024mb memory go here:

If you have regular Hd2 with 512mb memory go here:

After this, i suggest you to install any Energy ROM you like... All good
Thanks for the help baybenbey i successfully flashed Energy Rom

dang.. too bad i didn't saw your message earlier
is the problem the same after flashing? If so... check out your sd card... HD2 likes to come up with "buggy" ones. and thats a pretty common thing. And it was same for me as well Yeah i know its a funny thing but IF your phone is SLOW... then just take off your SD... and i bet it will be ultra-fast once again. Anyways you can buy a new one right? like i did

[Q] s2 does not run smoothly

hi everyone
i`ve got a problem with my sgs2.
since the last update version, my phone doesn`t run smoothly anymore.
when scrolling through the menu or contactlist it`s like the page is holding back. before the update i haven`t got any problems with it. I`ve gone to a servicepoint to reset the whole system to the earliest version. didn`t work. I`ve send it back to where i bought it, they say we`ve repared it... nothing seems to have happened.
it`s so frustrating to see that this expensive phone, witch they say is the fastest and the best of it`s kind, seems to have such a problem.
Does somebody know what to do? because I don`t.

so you have used warranty repair?? May as well root and install a faster custom rom
since the op doesn't come from the deep internet....... i shal explain that there is a search function in this website.
And i am not certain this specific post will help OP in any way, since he just sent it to warranty, due to...that.....
Sorry but sincerely, why did you buy a Samsung Galaxy S2? are you coming from an iPhone?
[EDIT] Anyway, this question might be useful for future reference, in a mere chance that a new user might actually use this so mythical search function.
If after you updated the operative system version to *whatever* you can always revert it to the version you previously had. This might conclude to a confusing stage of your life, since samsung seem to have hit an infinite loop of versions releases and most probably you might get more confused than you already are.
Simply follow guides and instalation instructions in the Development sections... !!!***BUT***!!! remember, development section and threads are strictly to that finality, development. Questions and other doubts are to be posted in the Q&A or General sub-sections.
I honestly wish that i dont sound rude in any and every way, and if i do, i hereby ask for forgiveness... -.-'
You can factory reset and test .
You can install a later stock rom and test .

Yes you sound rude and probably no help to OP, also the condescending tone in your post makes this community look bad for the novices who have genuine problems IMO. Is it because he has 1 post? If he was saying something like "WHY PHONE HAZ LAG? WHAT BEST FIRMWARE FOR NO LAG?" then I would understand your post.
Anyway's, good luck OP! I had the same problems with custom ROM's and Kernel's (firmware) but since I was doing custom stuff, I voided my warranty and had to deal with it myself via full wipes and a kernel cleaning script amongst all the flashing. How did you try to update your firmware?

I get the same thing happening, but only on the call logs.
I think it holds about 500 logs and every so often when I try to scroll down a few pages it starts to freeze then flows again and keeps doing that the more I keep scrolling down.
I think it happens because sometimes I don't use that list for a long period so it needs to reload the list. Also could be the first time after I restore a backup.
Anyway, I just keep scrolling all the way to the bottom and after that all is good again. It a bit like loading the gallery for the first time. After that it loads quickly.

i allready set it back too the earliest version. i`ve asked samsung what to do. they told me too send it back. i`ve done that. but nothing seems to work. the problem is still there. i`ve been thinking of a custom rom, but then i loose my waranty. i hope that when the new update too icecream arrives it will fix the problem. when it doesn`t i will look out for a custom rom.

YP-G70 US Stock Rooted Rom dump

This was originally an opinion post that turned in to more.. I am leaving the thread intact and the stock rooted rom dump can be found in post #20
Original text:
I picked up a couple of the 5" refurb players for my kids (ages 6&7) for christmas (both are YP-G70CW). I am actually quite impressed with this device, but thats not why i am here.
I plan on rooting them so i can do a hidden install of Cerebrus just in case they lose them or they get stolen. Anyway, since these will be going to my kids, i dont want to heavily mod them, i want them to be reliable.
This is where the opinions come in, do i leave the stock rom on there or is there another reliable rom that would be super kid friendly that has no problems?

i dont think that any anti theft is that helpful due to the lack of mobile data.
unless a thief is dumb enough to connect to their own wifi, there is no way for the galaxy player to report its location
I fully agree with the above comments.
I have a 5.0 for more than one year and now a Nexus 7. if I take at side the device speed (for heavy games) The 5.0 is in my view the best staple in today market. Especially in term of portabilty!
good choice

You can flash a cerebrus zip to the system and hide it from the app drawer. This also keeps it from being removed from a factory reset. If someone stole, or "found it" then they would have to be at least smart enough to flash different firmware, or manually remove it. I would rather have little protection than none at all. And if it fails me then i am only out the $140 per device that i spent.

I have N7, N4, HTC Vivid, an older LG Optimus, a few chinese android knock offs, etc... my kids love playing with my N7 but i wanted to get them something a little more portable that they could easily take back to their mom's house. I came across these refurbed players and knew immediately that it would be perfect for them.
Just like any big kid with a new toy, i couldn't wait to get them and try them out (well, i have to test them, they are refurbs)... And i have to say that i actually really like this device. I kinda want one for myself.
I use chip rom and everything works(its based on GB ) ..i use mine on 1.5 ghz with undervolted FQ and i tell you (at least on chip rom) most apps works faster then on nexus 7..i put side by side nexus 7 and GP5 and press buttons on same time ..in 90% SG5 would open faster or finish faster.

Sure, give me a few days and I'll see what I can do. Seems as if I have a slight case of food poisoning, so I'm not moving much further than the couch or bathroom. So as soon as I feel like staring at my computer I'll get it

So i still didn't get this... I plugged the one in to my machine with windows booted up and Kies told me there was an update. So i figured i would grab the update and dump that, then also dump my other one without the update and give you guys both.......
Well this turned out to not be an easy process. Kies did something and F'd up the drivers. I spent a good hour (uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, hard reset phone, etc) with it trying to make it see the phone again to no avail. So this morning i booted linux and tried to get a dump and ran out of time. I am off work tomorrow so i should have more time.

I would recommended giving up Kies all together because it's more problematic then it's worth. You could install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11633550 (this) and it'll fix your issue. Sorry for the issues.

yep, i saw that earlier.. i will give it a shot. No worries about the issues, I have been so far up HTC the last few years i need some different exposure.
The one is in the process of uploading now.. I still have to update it yet and get the dump of that one also. But i am going to bed, i have a sick kid to deal with now (guess i had the flu and not food poisoning, lol). I will update with a download link after i get up. Which should be in a less than 5 hours.

*since this was my first attempt, if you have a way to test it, then please do as i dont want to mess up your device. But i followed the instructions and encountered no errors to achieve an Odin flashable TAR file, it was just over 300MB, It zipped down to 183. SO file size to me seems to be normal.

[Q] i9305 4.3 to 4.4? Is it possible?

Is it possible to update to CM11 nightly (or any other 4.4 roms... I'm not familiar with the scene) from 4.3 stock?
I did install KNOX, and then removed it. And then the Samsung service reflashed the rom again. So I don't know about it anymore. Didn't install it since then.
My story:
As many of you already did, I also installed the new update. Read below if you are interested (but you probably know all this anyway.)
So. A few days ago Google+ started to eat up my battery. I disabled it in the Application Manager and did not have the updates installed either. But it just started. My usual battery life dropped to only a couple of hours at max.
So I fired up Google and it said I have to install the updates. So I did.
Nothing changed. Then I went into Google+, signed in, and then signed out.
Nothing changed.
So all in all, I have a piece of crappy brick that I can't use anymore.
Bit of a rant: You gotta love this. You buy an overpriced product and they f... you over a thousand times. App makers, Samsung (4.3 crapdate), and EVEN Google. Then why the hell would I even want Android ever again? Seriously. If I would have to buy a phone now, I would pick an iPhone, no matter how much it costs more. This is just unjustifiable. "Hey customer, thanks for buying our product. Now let us make it all crap." ... WHY?
So yeah. Now I have no choice but to lose warranty (which I already used a few times because this is REALLY a crap quality phone). Not that HTC One X was any better, it had a faulty GPU/motherboard like 4 times. (Thanks Nvidia!) ... Sorry guys, I'm just infuriated.
Wish I could just change the phone down. I was thinking about Sony, but if Google can buttrape you anytime, why bother? No guarantee I can just fix it on Sony either.
CM10 is also fine
As I read the nightly can disable all GSM related operations (call/sms), so CM10 is also fine.
I just want to fix my battery life and have a stable phone again.

you should download your firmware from here
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9305&pcode=0#firmware
wipe everything then go into download mode
Use Odin http://www.android.gs/download-odin-3-07/
and after you flash this, do a factory reset within the phone or through its recovery
I just did this with my wife's 9305 and its running like a champ

Thanks for the quick reply.
As I said my phone runs the 4.3 firmware now without any issue.
Except the 4.3 slow encryption and the huge battery drain. The phone got reset like 3-5 times in the past few weeks too.
So now I wonder if I can just install CM10 from 4.3.
But I need some confirmation as I know you cannot downgrade 4.3 for example. (Due to KNOX or whatever.)
Yeah should be no problem. My wife's battery drain happened too. I found the problem was with the SD card. I formatted it with the phone and it seems to be as good as it was on 4.12

I've got no SD card.
Thanks for the replies too, but I still want a 100% CONFIRMATION that I can downgrade.
Having a brick is still worse than having like a few hours long battery life.

Look you can go from any version of cm back to stock. CM doesn't change your boot loader or your modem. The only time your stuck on a version of android is when it comes to stock. Like as a note 3 users we are stuck on KitKat because they updated our bootlaoder. Cm based Roms it doesn't matter.
And you should get an SD card to hold your back ups just in case.
Also if someone helps you on xda it's kind of nice to hit the thanks button. It allow others to see that their comment was useful.
Good luck.
BTW if your new to rooted and ROM installing I suggest reading through the Dev section for the i9305.
Also google your issue word for word and there are tons of android forums out there which may help you.
A lot of times if you open a thread that has been answered a lot they will ignore it or throw words you won't like your way.
So good luck

I know you cannot downgrade from 4.3, nor use Triangle Away (due to KNOX).
Does this affect the move to CM? Or not?

has nothing to do with cm and triangle away will restore your binary count not warranty bit but I am not sure how knox effects the s3 as it does with the note 3
either way it never hurts to try things

Yeah if I'm not going to get an answer in a few hours I'll give it a go. It's a brick anyway, heh.
Just did my wife's i9305 today. Moving to cm/omni shouldn't be an issue, however be warned you lose a lot of features like HDMI out and the camera doesn't work as well. I just put the galaxy project ROM on there as the i9305 has the extra GB of ram which keeps stock nice and smooth, also you can debloat if the need be. And if you run into camera issues like I did simply flash stock kernel then reflash rom. Honestly unless you prefer KitKat its a waste of the extra ram your device has as most of it simply will never get used.
Also with wanam xposed you can customize everything! Can't do that with an iPhone. Sorry to hear you have had a bad run but while Samsung's software isn't exactly great the hardware is beast and once you learn how to configure it and unlock its full potential you will see you made the right choice.
i9300 | temasek 4.4.2 | boeffla kernel
Thanks for your reply!
- How worse will the camera get?
- What other important features you know? (HDMI does not really matter to me.)
I do use it a lot, so I don't want to lose everything. (Only use simple picture/HDR modes tho.)
Tried again every kind of combination with Google+ and it's still eating my battery like crazy.
I mean... what the hell is the "Disable" for then? It "almost disables" the app or what? lol.

I mean... what the hell is the "Disable" for then? It "almost disables" the app or what? lol.

Topic solved!
Installed CM without any problem. Everything worked flawless.
Now I have a fast (MUCH faster) phone. And all those god-tier features. Holy sh*t I love my phone now.
(I hate you Samsung.)

Beginner - Looking to flash

Hello all!
This is my very first post as I am new to XDA and a total newbie with no experience of flashing but looking forward to learn!
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S21 T-Mobile version, which is now Network Unlocked. I want to flash the official Samsung Unlocked firmware and get rid of carrier bloat, also because my phone is still stuck on Android 11 with the October security patch. As far as I know, Android 12 has been released and also the Dec security patch.
I did some research, it seems like that I need 2 tools, Frija and Odin. I only have a Mac and I'm not sure if these tools are available for Mac.
Can anyone please guide me and direct me to a guide for beginners? I'm really not sure where to start. I also have a couple of questions for the experts here:
1- Will this void warranty?
2- Will I still get over the air updates after flashing to official Samsung Unlocked Firmware? If yes, will the OTA be directly from Samsung or will it still be T-Mobile?
3- Are there any disadvantages of doing this? Such as any conflicts on the T-Mobile network?
My phone's exact model is SM-G991U
Thank you all!
If your OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission, let it be as you have little to gain.
Updates tend to break things...
At least wait until the update is proven good.
Unless you do something stupid security is rarely an issue on Androids.

May not be worth the time and trouble it will cost you. Depends how much you value the current functionality of the phone and how much you're willing to risk losing.
A toasted mobo will set you back a couple Franklins and put you right back where you started.

No. People who updated recently said a lot of issues were fixed. I just wanted a guide dude on flashing since I'm not getting the update. But thanks anyway.
