I think it would work on GB but you would also need to change statusbar_background.png in systemui to a transparent image. I'm pretty sure the patcher only changes the smali edit and doesn't change the png.

Yup u have to manually edit the status_bar.XML and then copy and rename the status_bar.png then recompile the systemui.apk to get the matching notification area

First replace the background image in SystemUI.apk.
1. Open systemui with winrar.
2. Extract res/drawable-hdpi/statusbar_background.9.png and make it completely or semi transparent.
3. Drag the edited image into the winrar window overwriting the original.
4. Push it to the phone.
Second run the patch. Pulling, patching, and then finally flash the patched zip.
If there's also a statusbar_background.png (no .9) edit that one the same as the other.

When I run patcher.bat, I pull the files from my phone, then I try to enable statusbar transparency only and an error box pops up saying Windows cannot find 'temp/SytsemUI\smali\com\android\systemui\statusbar'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. On the command prompt window it says something like:
A subdirectory or file temp already exists.
A subdirectory or file temp\backup already exists.
Unable to access jarfile C:\Users\FAMILY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$DI11.888\\tool\apktool.jar
Unable to access jarfile C:\Users\FAMILY~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$DI11.888\\tool\apktool.jar
The system cannot find the path specified.
Any ideas?
Edit: Never mind, a stupid mistake.
Doesn't work on GB. It kind of overlapped my current statusbar creating a sort of blur. But it doesn't make it transparent.

I'm running CM7 pre-beta and I'm using the MIUI theme. I ran the patcher.bat and selected transparent status bar only. I get my statusbar_patch and undo zips but when I install it I have no statusbar at all. And when I run the undo zip I still have no statusbar. What exactly did you guys do to get it to work? I installed the patch and uninstalled it several times already.
Try these, make sure the wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache also
Sometimes the notification bar is transparent for me and other times not. I flashed this patch with romracers cwm and seems to go smoothly. Any guesses? I have wiped cache, davlik cache numerous times.

Nice work man!! This looks great!!
Thanks! I JUST finished updating the OP with install instructions and I also attached a RAR file with the dock/icons to use if you wanted to make LauncherPro look just like it does in the screenshots.
Also, while I like red and/or blue themes, my wife likes purple so I'll probably be working on a GrapeBlur theme next.
If anyone tries pushing these files to a release other than 4.1.57 (such as Adeo or Gingerblur based on 4.1.52) I would be interested to know the results!
Looks great sir, thanks for the work.
Looks great man, thanks for putting this together. One question though, is it posible to make a blue theme as I love blue!
Thanks for great work! One question though, any errors during the deodexing process?

I had one error, I think it was on PhotoEditor.apk and PhotoEditor.odex. I've seen or used a built-in photo editor so I just removed those then restarted the deodex process for apps and it completed successfully.
just tried deodexing and yes, getting the same errors from the two apks as well. Ok thanks for the heads up will try again
Successfully applied the theme!
Found 1 bug. The clock in notification bar is black in mine instead of white. Any idea why?
This might be a nobrainer but, if I change the icon files inside the apk and then push it to my phone will it still work? In this way will I be able to make my own 4.1.57 themes?

You added a few icons to the /drawable-hdpi directory. Do you actually use them via the xml files, or are they just remains of whatever framework-res.apk you used?

yes
just get framework-res.apk, back it up, open it with winrar.
drag and drop the files, of the same name, that you would like to replace into the open winrar window. choose normal and 'add and replace', then close the window to save. replace the one in system/framework with your modified version.
Be sure to set the priviledges correctly after you copy into system/framework.
They should match the original, full read and user write.
Thats how I made this.
Edit: Every time I replace the framework-res.apk I lose my google, twitter, and facebook accounts. Anyone know why, all I'm doing is replacing images.

When you long press on any of the icons in the dockbar of LauncherPro you should see an option to change the icon. You need to have the icons/dock I attached saved to your sdcard ahead of time so you can choose "custom" for the icon and select the graphic you want to use.
For the dock you go to Menu -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Dock Background
* Pretty sure that's correct, but my phone is in on the charger in my bedroom where my wife is sleeping so I don't want to accidentally wake her up.
Does anyone know if there's a mod available to make the status bar transparent on the Legend (CM7.1)?
I came across following site: uot.dakra.lt/kitchen but it looks quite complicated
1. Make backup of your SystemUI.apk (and SystemUI.odex if it is there)
2. Download file attached
3. Put that file (SystemUI.apk) into your /system/
4. Set permission to rw-r--r--
5. Delete SystemUI.odex if it is inside /system/app/
6. Copy/move and replace modded SystemUI.apk from step 3 into /system/app/
7. Reboot
Note:
1. I set the status bar background to grey colored when you pull down the statusbar to avoid the date overlapping with clock.
2. Notification icons will overlapped with centered clock when it is too many. Dont have much time to at least try to find a way to fix it. If you do have, please share.
Edit: Dont forget to do nandroid backup..
If you are looking for transparent status bar for 7.1..
You can always apply this.. TGF-Theme-Patcher-7.1-Final
Thanks for your replies!
I installed attached SystemUI.apk according to instructions. After reboot I had a black non-transparent status bar with centered clock.
TGF-Theme-Patcher-7.1-Final gave me a bootloop. Luckily I made a nandroid backup..

Black non-transparent statusbar is known issues with some launchers and there are several ways to resolve it.
One way is to use livewallpaer apps (the reason it become black is simply because your launcher didn't "draw" your wallpaper below that statusbar thus those apps resolve it such as walypyrus etc) but it takes very big memory.
If you use Go launcher, just enable the high quality drawing in preferences then restart your go launcher.
If use adw, it is the "wallpaper hack" setting.

If you want to know if the mod will work in pro launcher, i cant say for sure but i think there is one option to enable high quality drawing as well for LP, you can try enable it and see how.
To make it even more complicated: I am now running CM 7.2.0 RC2
Has anyone managed to make the status bar transparent for this version?
Transparent status bar on Legend (CM7)?
I still do not fully understand the issue with applying a transparent status bar.
This is what I have tried so far:
- UOT Kitchen: uploaded and patched my framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk using Status bar mod. Resulting zip file has been installed with ROM Manager. (Option to wipe Dalvik cache was checked.)
- tried out several CM7 themes that include transparent status bar
- installed and applied MultiPicture Live Wallpaper
Nothing worked so far.
I am currently using Cyanogenmod 7.2 Nightly of June 3rd.
Does a rom need to be 'deodexed' to be compatible with themes that contain a transparent status bar?
And why aren't all custom roms just compatible with themes that offer transparency in the first place??

You cannot just simply take systemui and framework and mod it bcoz our cm7 are odexed. You have to de-odex it first.
One simple way is just take the apk i attached previously, push it to /system/app/, set correct permission on it, then afterward it will depend on which launcher you use. Can confirm it worked in latest nightlies cm7.2 using go launcher with high quality draw option enabled.
From my lovely nokia N-Gage
thanks Feed,
I have installed your SytemUI.apk and set correct permissions.
I also installed Go Launcher with options "High quality drawing" and "Support transparent status bar" turned on.
I have tried several themes with transparency, but status bar is still black.
Digital clock is now in the middle of sb though.
What do I do wrong?
Did you delete SystemUI.odex after you replace SystemUI.apk with mine? You have to delete that file (SystemUI.odex), maybe that is the cause?
It works!! I must have forgotten to delete the .odex file. Thank you so much for all your help!
I can confirm it works with Cyanogenmod 7.2 Nightly from June 10th.
It looks great with the Alpha 7 theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597008
I'm very curious to know how come your patched SystemUI.apk works whereas my rom is not deodexed?

Well, the simple version of explanation is, it is just the same case as when you install other apps (any apps) that is not odexed. .odex files containing some codes of the apps that is initial and will be loaded during certain stage during bootup thus make it faster for you to launch and run the apps. When you deodexed it, the process just combining/compressing/zipalining these two files (abc.apk & abc.odex) into single .apk file and basically everything inside it just pretty much the same as what is inside odexed apk version. Thats why it is still work even though all other apps is still odexed as your rom is not deodexed.
If you want to experimanting further, you can get some modded MDPI Mms.apk out there (that have conversation list of sms for example), copy and replace Mms.apk into your /system/app/ and delete the Mms.odex, then you can understand what i said.
Just can't get this to work
I deled the odex file, but the status bar is still black...
I use Go Launcher and I set the options: Hight Quality and Transparent Status Bar.
PS: I'm using CM 7.2 final

Your transparent status bar is inside the SystemUI.apk currently on the ROM you are on. When flashing this MOD, it replaces your SystemUI.apk file with a stock one with the GPS reticle removed (no transparent status bar)
What would need to be done for yall to keep the transparent status bar is to pull your current SystemUI.apk and then modify that file with the smali tweaks to remove the GPS reticle and then push that file back onto your phone.
sorry if I'm not too clear on it

If you run the transparent mod on (Rom)(12.5.12) UKB DNA 1.0.0 you lose the advanced power menu and system goes straight to reboot on long press power button. If anyone is taking requests I'd like to incorporate the GPS removal in this thread combined with transparent status bar and battery % icon mod to work with the UKB Rom or at minimum combine the GPS icon removal with a battery percentage. If you could make the top bar transparent even better.

Ok so i have had NO LUCK whatsoever trying to get this to work. My ROM for the Note 2 is a TW base (people want the S-Pen functions). And they like the AOSP feel so i decided to try and make a ROM that is AOSP themed. Well i have the launcher and a few AOSP themed apps such as the messaging app.
The flashers were very satisfied with my work so far. But they wanted an AOSP themed status bar. Meaning some AOSP battery images wifi and so on. I decided just just replace the EXACT images. I used a cm10 ROM to get the pngs. I also did use the newest Apktool to do it. I did all the framework installation. I decompiled both and started transfering. Here is what i did. I went to the drawable-xhdpi folder in both ROMs. They had pretty much identical png names. But the icons were different (one being the blue theme) so i took the blue icons (battery and wifi) and transfered them to my rom. I made sure that only the pngs with the same names were transfered. so there wasnt any issue compiling.
Next i compiled the APK file.
Then i used my backup systemui.apk file to transfer the META-INF folder to the new one using 7-zip.
Then i went and signed it and used dsixda's android kitchen to zipalign it. Then after all that i pulled that apk from the zipaligned folder and put it on my phone's sd card. I have the root explorer app. I move it to my /system/app folder. It moved successfully. Then i reboot and when it comes back up i dont have a status bar. And my wallpaper is black for a little while and then goes back to the feather thing.
I have tried signing and not signing. Zipaligning and not zipaligning.
I am stuck here. I am really wanting the AOSP themed icons in the status bar. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Try this:
Decompile, mod and compile your apk as usual (don't sign or zipalign the file).
Open your fresh compiled apk, and your original apk using 7-zip (I haven't tested with Winrar, try if you wish).
Drag and drop all the files from your compiled apk to the original one, EXCEPT the AndroidManifest.xml.
Push this new cross-modded apk to your phone and reboot.

I am modding my status bar 2.3.4 and i want to add power toggles to it
i got a systemui.apk from another phone ( xperia arc 2.3.4) which has the same status bar like i do ( droid 3 )
when i switch systemui.apk's between them i get a FC and then i reboot and i get no status bar .
is that because it is from a different phone ( i looks exactly like my status bar ) or it might be a signature problem from android xml ?

You can't do that. Just because they look the same doesn't mean the coding is the same. You are gonna have to add all the missing coding from one that has it to yours. Not an easy task at all

I even tried to copy a status bar from a 2.3.4 rom ( droid 3 ) to my own build ( 2.3.4 droid 3 ) and did not work
I somehow need to edit the status bar, the interface, so that I create the space needed by my toggles and then add them
And after that I need to create a command file so when I click on wifi to turn it off or on for example, right?
Do you know any place for learning coding or some tutorial that could help me in a way or another?

You will need to use a decompiling tool such as APKtool. Then transfer the PNG files from the xperia systemui to the droid3 systemui. Make sure png file names are exactly the same on both systemui's or just rename them to match the droid3 systemui. Also make sure if you have lets say 400 png files in one folder make sure you have 400 at the end of your modding or you will have compiling issues and force closes!
Then use 7-zip to transfer the meta-inf folder to the modded apk file. Zipalign and boom you are done!

So if i understood corectly i'll have to do this
1. Decompile both apks with apktool .
2. Copy all the stuff from framework-res from xperia to my systemui ( or just for the status bar toggles )
3. Transfer meta-inf .
Question : if i transfer meta-inf folder i will copy and replace the original right ? And what is the meta inf actually ? (The command lines for each power toggle ? ( i mean what to do if i click wifi for example ☠)
4. Zipalign .
5. Replace the file in my unzipped rom ( should i unzip it normally or with apktool ) and then zip it and flash it

Its a complicated process. It's hard to explain. Check to see if your device supports VRTheme. Go to the Themes section for your device and see if anybody has a theme that uses that system. If so that would make your life SOOO much easier!!
I want to edit my status bar style to iOS style by editing systemui.apk file ..how to do that tell me bro
Please help me to remove big ugly icons or text (not sure) from rom status bar on Nougat. I have tried everything, Gravitybox, substratum etc.. . I can change network signal strenght, battery, wi-fi and every other icon on status bar, but I can't remove this ugly ugly ugly 4G. This rom has SystemUi Tuner, but there only have option to disable Cellular data icon, but that way it doesn't show signal strenght.
I have Vernee Mars with rooted stock rom Android 7.0.

These are on your drawable folder in SystemUI.apk. stat_sys_data_fully_connected_4g.xml, etc. Try changing the width and height to 0..0dip.

You didn't decompile your Systemui.apk properly. To make these edits you have to decompile, edit, then recompile it back.
Try flashing this for now and see if it works. Visit this thread for a tool to help with all that.

Make a backup first before flashing.

Sounds good. It is a tutorial mainly with decompiling and recompiling. If you will upload your SystemUI I'll take a look.

OK. I have added original META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml to non-signed SystemUI.apk using 7-Zip, then created flashable zip using TMA, flashed it with TWRP, and now everything seems to be ok.
Thanks Tulsadiver.
please, can you upload the flashable zip you made for this?? I can"t get around TMA..
