[Q] Can I safely update the youtube app without losing 3d? - HTC EVO 3D

None of the preinstalled software appears to display updates, and I want to update the YouTube player. However, I have no way of knowing if the YouTube app that comes on the 4D is custom made for it or not, and thus am worried if updating it will result in loss if 3D YouTube playback or it not running on my phone's resolution.
While I'm at it... I noticed that despite the EVO 3D having a 16:9 aspect, YouTube videos.which are 720 or 1080 are cut off from the sides in 3D mode. Is there anything I can smdo about this?
Thanks

Yes, updating to the new YouTube version will still play in 3D. I've tested it, and it works fine.

Yup ^^^

Yup again.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. 3D videos play fine horizontally but are cut off extremely from the top and bottom, almost half my screen is blank!
Take this video for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U0ZDjnQiXQ
If I play it through YouTube it is heavily cut off from the top and bottom, half my screen is blank. If i play the mp4 file I downloaded from that very same link using flashgot on my pc it plays perfectly and in fullscreen.
I can't find any sort of zoom or crop settings to change this.

Is there a problem with flash?

Every time watch a flash video I get some sort of a line either on the right side of the screen or on the right side and the bottom of the screen. Is there a problem with flash, phone or the video?
You can see this either in desktop version of youtube or in website such as project free tv.
I have the most up to date version of flash.
Does anybody else get this too or its just me?
Edit: forgot to add that you have to be watching the video in the browser and not the youtube application And you Have to be watching the video In Full Screen. Here is an example

I haven't noticed anything
so no one else has this problem and its just my phone?
It might just be dead pixels, sometimes I get it too, just not on videos.

works well
I just noticed it
I'm also seeing this on my phone and my wife's. Very strange not many people are having this issue.

YouTube lag

When watching YouTube videos the whole phone becomes laggy, swiping between comments and related videos and pulling down the notification bar. Also the video slows down every 5 seconds then goes back to normal speed, repeatedly. The only Rom to ever fix this problem are ICS roms such as joelz. If anyone knows anything about this or experience this as well, If there is any fix..I miss using the YouTube app I have to resort to the website, thanks.

Odd, when i rocked ics roms the YouTube app showed the same results that you get not on ics, however when I'm running a 2.3.4 ROM it works flawlessly...

Slow Motion Video

I love this little phone. It continues to surprise me at every turn.
I discovered slow motion video today.

Pretty cool. How can we do it?

With the camera app open, push the A in the top right, first option - slow motion video.
The panoramic shots come out nice too

Noticed this last night after seeing it in a post. I love it! And its actually real slow motion, not just a video slowed down lol

Sure is, except there is limitations on the res. i.e. no HD slow mo. Still cool
Going out to get some landscape shots in the mountains today. Panaorama inc!
I tried this feature inside my house. For some reason when I click record the screen goes a little darker and that's the way the video comes out as well.
Very cool never the less. Maybe ill try it tomorrow outside.

That's the way photography works... Slow motion is more frames per second, which translates to faster shutter speeds which allow less light into the sensor. Hence darker video unless the iso is boosted, then it gets too grainy... Good light will make a big difference...
It makes NO SENSE (no pun) for the phone to not have slow motion HD recording. None. Buddy of mine at work has the Resound, and we record 720p slow motion all the time. Checked the file's resolution, and it is full 720p. Why would a NEWER phone from the same manufacturer with better hardware and newer software... backpedal?
Pop Player (Speed-Control Video Player)
I highly recommend the free Pop Player app. I recently made a couple of reviews on it on YouTube.
This new video player allows the user to utilize speed-control. The slow-motion
and speeded-motion are extremely smooth too and audio syncs perfectly with
the video at any speed. It can definitely be useful for athletes and students.
Some people I know even use it to replay their golf swings in slow-motion
in order to improve their form.
This player plays MP4 files that contain H264 and AC codecs.

Do you have the .apk, because this player is no longer in the Google play store. Disregard, I found it in the play store, I should've looked thoroughly the first time.

Why does a video player need all those permissions? Read phone state and identity, retrieve running apps, kill background processes, discover accounts, market billing service. It may all be legit, but I wasn't taking any chances. Deleted the app without even running it as soon as I saw the permissions. Should have noticed it before installing the app.

HD Netflix?

I noticed my Netflix seems like it isn't true 720p HD... I found an HD apk but sadly it won't stream without forcing an update from the Play Store.
Any ideas on getting true HD Netflix on my phone?
Thanks!

Ok well I found this apk and it works

I *Think* it's better quality (True 720p) but would love to hear feedback from you guys
1) Disable automatic Netflix updating in Play store for existing Netflix
2) Uninstall existing Netflix app, as it won't install over it
3) Install the linked apk
Some different things on this apk:
Loading times each time screen is rotated
Longer load times
Again, I am not sure if there is a quality upgrade on the stream but it seems like it. Please let me know what you think.
I can't tell a difference. I just want full screen support.

Me either... if I had two of the phones side by side it would be ideal for testing

Audio lags behind Video stream

Not sure if it's just me, but when I'm watching video streams, anything from ESPN, YouTube, browser embedded videos, or HTC Media Streamer based content, Audio stream noticeably lags behind. About half a second actually.
Has anyone noticed this behavior, and what's the solution?
Thanks.
i've noticed it lags on the videos that you record. the audio is a little quicker than the video.
Yup that's exactly the case. Audio lags behind video in pretty much anything that's using HTC's native "Streaming Media Player". Massive and consistent lag.
Netfilx, WatchESPN, and similar third party apps don't lag as much though.

I'm talking anything, not only your camera content. If you get TubeMate and download any YouTube video onto your phone, and then play it with the default player, you'll notice a massive lag. Doesn't matter if HD or SD content. The phone is definitely NOT struggling to keep up.
The issue has to be within the actual OS settings.

interesting. wouldn't surprise me. do me a favor, go try MX Player. I've been using that on my Nexus 7 and love how it works. maybe that'll fix it? what does the stock app have that that doesn't, besides the ability to take a still shot picture?

Actually all the third party players seem to have the same issue. Used MX, VPlayer, Dice, BSPlayer, VLC.
This is clearly OS wide issue (at least on my unit). Has anyone experienced similar behavior on your DNA?
i dont see this on my DNA. i tried youtube and TWit live and voice and video is spot on.

In YouTube app lag isn't as drastic, but if you download the video and then watch, we're talking over 250ms. I also restored recently, same issue.
Am I the only one having this issue?!
i haven't downloaded any videos on to this thing so i really can't say lol
so wow, I was just watching a youtube video and yeah... the audio was slower than the video. I bet it has to do with the full HD screen.. what else could it be? ugh pretty damn annoying. this sucks because I'm anal as hell when it comes to audio and video lag...

I haven't experienced any of these issues. Sounds like an issue with TubeMate. I mean, you said streaming from YouTube was ok, but downloaded videos had lag. That, to me, sounds like a problem with your download program.

The nexus 10 has the same lag due to the screen resolution.

Even when streaming within YouTube app, the lag is present, it's just not as evident. However, when playing any content loaded onto the device, the lag is north of 250ms which is major!
Another example is my subscription to Futubox which has two ways of delivering HD content, browser flash based, and m3u8 where HTC MEdia Streamer handles the content natively. Flash plays perfectly in sync (although drains more battery), but m3u8, or rtmp/rtsp lags terribly.
I've tried the same exact m3u8 stream on an iPad 3 and a PC, no lag whatsoever, even when AirPlayed.
I simply mentioned TubeMate because it's the easiest way to grab video content onto the storage. Besides that, TubeMate downloads whatever the digital source is, could never be the cause if the issue.
This is OS level issue, and it's real.
so it seems screen resolution is the culprit. btw guys I've reported this to htc, and sent the link for this thread. They're in contact with me. I suggest you report it too
