Yes, but we'll probably lose movies from the market.... but there is always Netflix, or Samsung's media hub.

My market was updated today on my rooted Evo 4G (Cyanogen Nightly) and I now have the new looking market with movies...
I still can't find an updated method step by step to root after updating to the stock TouchWiz UX.
I just want to root so I can use my PS3 controllers.
Is this any help? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krQDP7xYlWg&feature=player_embedded#at=127

Yup, I spent a lot of time browsing movies. Anyone know if we can get them on the gTab/what ROMs?

They're afraid rooted devices can pirate the movies. Like they said it wont play through the market but.....hey have you checked YouTube lately.....
My Vegan-tab gingeredition auto-updated it's market sometime yesterday. I don't even see the movies option. Apps/Games/Books.

Well, it's a DCMA restriction to prevent piracy... so unless they bring in some heavy DRM protection, rooted devices won't be able to play movies through the market.
Quoted from Google Support:
Playback not supported on rooted devices (Error 49)
We do not support playback on rooted devices for copyright protection reasons. You can enjoy your movie on a different device, or on your computer at market.android.com/movies, or on youtube.com/movies if you have a YouTube account.

Is anyone else having issues with the Market on VeganTab Gingerbread version 7. My wifes table is running that. When I launch the Market, it crashes after 6 or so seconds. I removed the update, and it worked for 30 seconds, but then I guess it repushed it self and then crashes again. Tried clearing cache, and all that jazz, but seems like the new version of market isn't working any longer
Are people having issues with Vegan Tab 5.1.
Thanks for any advise or comments

Just got ICS rooted. Any suggested root-only apps I should use before ROMS come out? I've currently only got the "AdAway" adblocker. Thanks much !

Apologies. So any suggestions?
AdFree is always nice to have. Titanium Backup also seems like a good idea.
Root Explorer. (Nuff said)
Wifikill (comes in handy trust me)(search for it on xda, not market)
Sixaxis Controller (I use it on GTA3)
CIFS-Manager to mount a network share as a local folder. With this app, you can play movies / music / anything from a network share without copying it locally.
If you don't need to mess about with root, it might be easier to wait a week or so and see if there is an update to ICS. You might have noticed that lots of people have stability issues, so don't expect too much sympathy if things go wrong.

hmmm this looks good thanks.
On a similar note Samba Filesharing is pretty sweet. Lets you see your prime under your network so you can easily transfer files to or from real easily.

To say that's its working would be a lie... I can do everything but use the four right buttons and R and L's right now...Not sure what I screwed up but I'll post the profile and tutorial i used so people can download it when/if it works.
-AdAway
-Root Explorer
-A back app like MyBackupPro or TiTBU that can take advantage of root functions in its backup and restore process
-SetCPU (hope to have future use for this bad boy)
-VooDoo OTA to save root and unistall and reinstall root after OTA updates
-a CacheCleaner
-BusyBox
Surprized no one has mentioned

You can play games and control the device remotely from another android device like smaller easier to hold phone, personally i dont care for tilt games on the tablet cause it seems to over or under tilt for me the way I hold the device. touch controls/ audio / mousepad
IMHO controlling the device remotely is a really cool benfit of root'ing it

A bit off topic still but, yeah all i can do is move but I think it's because my dpad is set to keyboard arrows. It has been reported that the touch emulation doesn't work with ICS either so waiting on an update.
Hey everybody, I think that this question is going to pop up more often since yesterday (April 17) Time Warner Cable released updated version of their app that now allows you to stream live tv on your ICS device.
The problem is that they implemented a mechanism that checks if your tablet/phone was rooted, if it was they show you message that the app is not supported on rooted devices.
Is there a way to work around this? I would not mind unrooting my TP to test this app. How can this be achieved?
Thanks for any tips!

Same problem with Sky which I would like to use.
Try to set the root permissions to adb only in the settings. Its probably on adb and apps. Let me kw if it works cuz I might get the app then.

Try the app permissions denied in the market and see if you can disable the root check.

There is a patched TWC app that doesn't check for root. I found it in the Galaxy Nexus forums and have the apk for phone. Let me find the post and I'll put it up for everyone.

I changed the name of superuser.apk. Turned debugging off.
App starts fine. Can look through the guide and everything but black screen when I try to watch Live TV. No matter which channel I change to. I haven't seen this issue in any other thread yet. I just installed cm9 for first time, so its fresh.
edit: of course I found the answer a minute later after this post, after i searched for an hour. of course. i had to change test-keys to something else
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29685497&postcount=419
1) Use Root Explorer or a similar file explorer app to rename Superuser.apk to Su.apk
2) Open build.prop (/system/build.prop) with Root Explorer or a similar file explorer app and rename test-keys to dEris-badass (lol)
3) I left USB Debugging enabled (some need to disable this)
4) Log in and watch some TV =]

Hello, I'm thinking of buying a tablet off FocalPrice for $73 and there are two different models I'm thinking of;
B700 7" Android 4.1.1 or GD IPPO M7 7" Android 4.2.2
Now my questions are;
1) If I try the Google store to download apps and the tablet is not compatable, can you please post the link I need to Root it?
2) Do I need to Root it to allow me to download and install apps on my own?
Thank you

Ok, well instead of rooting, do you guys have a list of some good Third Party App stors that I can download from and then Sideload them to my tablet?

1) If the tablet is not compatible with an App, you can download the.apk file from any other source and run it to the point that your device is capable of doing so. For instance, Play Store displayed Whatsapp as incompatible on a Samsung Galaxy Star. I downloaded the .apk from the Whatsapp website and installed it and its working fine.
2) No, you dont need to root to install apps of your own, you just need to enable installing .apk's other than those from play store from the Android Settings. However, there are some apps that will require Root to function, but these apps are usually advanced functions.

You only need to download the apk file, copy to your device (internal or external memory, it doesn't mater) and install it using any file explorer (surely your device will come with a file explorer preinstalled). That's it.
The best deivce you have listed from them is the 2nd one due to the fact that it is running the latest version of android. You don't need root to install most apps and games but you might sometimes come across apps that need root to do specific tasks.
Thanks guys.
I did order the GD IPPO M7 7" Android 4.2.2, got it yesterday and is Google Play compatible
Now maybe I should open a new thread but had a question about 3DVplayer.
My tablet says it supports screen scale adjustment between 4:3 & 16:9 and 2D & 3D but when I play a 3D movie I just get the two screens side by side. Is there a trick in getting 3D to work properly?
Thanks
I have the same exact tablet. All was working fine until today, when the word "DEMO" appeared in bright red in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Went into recovery mode and did a factory reset, but it is still there. Anyone know how to get rid of it?

I don't know about yours but I also bought a Chinese tablet. The specs stated that Bluetooth N/A and there were no Bluetooth settings in the settings but I downloaded a Bluetooth File Transfer software from Play and was shocked to find out that my tab actually had Bluetooth! I could transfer files but haven't checked a headset. I can turn it on from any Bluetooth switch widget
Hello everyone,
I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 running ICS. When I would click to play a video from the default internet browser, I would get prompted for the video player. I'm assuming that it has something to do with flash compatibility? In any case, I really liked this behavior since I could choose MX player (stream) or Internet (download). This was very handy and I would love to be able to have that functionality on my new device.
I'm now using a Galaxy S4 running KitKat 4.4.2 and it seems that all videos play inline and I can't choose any other apps. Is there a way to get that functionality back?
Thanks for any insight you may have!
Nope. Android killed all flash plug-ins and apps are now made to play videos inline. Not to mention the option to download was breaking alot of rules.

You might be able to get around this by using outdated apks from before they started using the inbuilt browsers but be warned that if you download the videos google has the right to term you account. Other then that there is nothing you can do. Flash has been dead for a long time now.
