Screen Density (Resolution) - HTC EVO 3D

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section...
To change your screen density (resolution)
1. Download ES File Explorer from the market.
2. Open ES, hit the menu key.
3. Enable root explorer.
4. Mount /system as writable.
5. Go to phone root folder, then /system.
6. Open "build.prop" in ES File Editor.
7. Scroll to "ro.sf.lcd_density=240".
8. Change to your liking (lower numbers equal higher resolution, vice versa. I find 190 to be a sweet spot, looks amazing on this screen.).
If you find this useful, please thank.

Great! I've been looking for the proper resolution to try that out on. I'd say this is more or less alright to put here

Sweet I'll try 190.

Is anything effected by this change meaning will certain things not display properly?

I've only found that pandoras buttons ate a little small. What's cool is that whille the predictions are smaller on top of the keyboard (which shows more predictions ), the keys adjust to stay the same exact size. Man, android is freaking amazing...

With a different launcher you can put icons 5 wide and 7 tall, it sweet...

Nice find. I edit my build.prop, but I haven't rebooted yet to see the changes.

Or you can just use this here from my DB

i tried it, i dont know if using an older version made it incompatible with the 3vo but i always had force closes with it and if it would work it would never boot, the screen would remain black and this is resizing to 200

Thanks @ 290 I like letters that resemble the EVO 4G. I had enough miniature text with the Hero !

Sorry about that mrdiaz. Pwn, your link is dead. And as for the dialer keys being small, I'll see if i can't find a dev to look at the sense "dialer.apk"?

Just try dialer one. It will do the job.
It's a lot of work to change the resources of the dialer apk

Made my shut down animation funky. Lol.

Honestly, I'm just getting into deving on android, and I like it. I'll take a whack at the dialer apk, but I can't promise anything (for now).

(Request) boot animation

I found this bootanimation earlier today browsing through facebook. I like it alot but it's not the right resolution for evo 3d. Would it be possible to convert it to the correct resolution for our phones?
Here is the link to the zips. http://www.rasdroid.com/android-and-i/android-custom-boot-animation-like-a-boss/
There is a landscape and portrait version. (I would like the portrait version converted)
Here is the link to a youtube video of the animation. http://htcdev.net/topic/101082-boot-animation-like-a-boss/

Ok, I appreciate the help but something is wrong with it. It's the right animation but it is squashed and kinda looks funny lol. The original is small in the middle, this one is puffy lol. I can't really explain it. I guess the only way you could see is if you flashed the original first, then flashed yours to see the difference. But I appreciate your help regardless
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
yeah i seen that since it was made for landscape and the sizes they used when you push it to portrait it will give it a smashed together look
So it doesn't matter if you use the portrait or landscape animation? Because there is two of them on that link

all he did was rotate 90 degrees. they where made 480 wide by 288 and when you make it 540 by 960 you will get that look. the desc was made to leave them at that size when played thats why it looked more centered than it is. here is the og pic

One of the first things I did was set it to 240. Seeing as I run 160 on my gs2 it was sort of a necessity. also 240 guarantees full market access.

If you use touchwiz its guaranteed to happen. Switch launchers (all good on go launcher and adw) or search for a mdpi version. The hyperdroid guys make one iirc.
Edit: I see the dialer. I'mgoing to try to push A mdpi version

Change the line
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=320
to
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
in /system/build.prop, either using Root explorer or ADB
As for my results, aside from scaling everything down, it looks very crisp and clear. I'm too used to the 320 resolution, so i'm going to set it back.
Can someone post an mdpi touch wiz and dialer....I'm actually liking the touch wiz.....240 looked nice but having the launcher cut in half and drawer sucks, and messed up dialer to...but man 240 looks nice

Go to the market and get an app called Nitrality. You can change your dpi with it and it'll stick after reboot unlike LCD changer
Big Dogg Infuse I997 ZeusB5 ICS!
Guessing you need root for that?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
I just downloaded Nitrality, but didn't change the setting because it looks like it only allows you to set it as high as 240. That is, it says 320 (default) when you open the dialog for it, but as soon as you slide the slider, the highest you can go is 240. This leads me to believe that the slider is hardcoded to top out at 240, and that if you change it using this app, you won't be able to go back to the stock 320 using this app. Just a word of warning if you are only trying to see if you like it. Someone who has used this app might be able to check if the 320 option appears after you have set 240? I kind of doubt it, but it's possible.

Nitrality tops out at 300. To go back to 320, you an always just manually change the value in the build prop.

the LCD Resolution app I use you can set it to change on Boot and it has a button to revert to Stock right on it so if you wanted to go back it goes right to 320

It makes everything essentially smaller/bigger depending on what you set it to. Usually people set it lower so that everything shrinks and you can fit more on your screen. Paranoidandroid actually has per app DPI i believe so that you can change different apps such as email/gmail so that instead of the screen you see on your phone, you can make it look like a tablet with the menus on one side with the mail on the other.

I am on Samsung ROM: 4.0.4 xxlpx. I changed the DPI and the icons look good, but the issue is that the icons does not seem take the advantage of complete screen. so the space on the bottom and right is left unused not sure if there is any way to have the complete screen size to be utilized.
Find attached pic, and as you can see the right hand space is unused and also the page number that shows up, that the end of the usable space.(marked in Red)
Any thoughts on how to make that extra space available ?
Thanks

On screen Nav buttons

Now that we have root, does anyone know how to install the MOD we had for the SG3 where it would add on screen soft keys and make the home button ONLY wake up the phone. It would also disable the capacitive buttons....I miss this so much...absolutely hate the Samsung home button.
Thanks ahead of time!!

seriously. please do us all a favor and get a different phone so we don't have to deal with you.
anyway. i wasn't really happy with the way this looked or worked so I went back. But if tweaked it could look / function better. It changed it so that if you hold the home button on screen and physical you get S-Voice. The on screen nav was really big also and the page indicators were covered by icons. It just looked and felt sloppy and there was no way to customize anything obviously.

Only thing I don't like is this kind of messes with the dialer DPI, and now the top of recent calls and favorites is being cut off by a big block of blue.
Edit: On Bean's new ROM, the top names are still covered, but the "blue" block is now transparent stuff just a blue border, so the names are now visible, but you can only touch the part of the name that sticks out from the bottom of the block. This is definitely more manageable though.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE
But bricking is not likely if you do this right. :good:
Get ES File Explorer from the play store and install.
Open the settings menu and scroll down to the "root settings" (near the bottom of the menu).
Open root settings and make sure to check all the options (grant su permissions when prompted).
Then, back out of settings menu and navigate to root (by clicking the "file up" button).
Open the system file and find build.prop file.
Open the build.prop file with ES Note Editor. (should be an option for ES Note Editor when you click on it)
VERY CAREFULLY SCROLL DOWN until you see ro.sf.lcd_density=xxx.
Where I put xxx, you will see a number like 240 or whatever the stock dpi is.
Now, click just after the line and delete the number (only the number, nothing else) and now enter a number that you want. (try 210). The smaller the number, the more "zoomed out" your screen will look. Stay within 150-300 though just to be safe.
BE CERTAIN THAT YOU DID NOT EDIT ANYTHING ELSE!!!
Back out and save when prompted.
Reboot. And see if you like it. The same process will change it back or to another size. Staying within 150-300 though just to be safe.
IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES.
If you brick your phone, help can be found in my signature.
Good Luck.
