Hi,
Can anyone point me to a (direct) link that gives the latest stock ROM for Samsung Galaxy S2 that i can flash using CWM? I think the latest version is KG5, but please tell me if this is wrong?
Ive been trying to search through an ocean of links and can find thousands but dont which is the right one.
I just want the latest stock ROM (preferably with a rooted kernal, but can live without) that i can flash from CWM.
Im sure its probably already here somewhere, but its not so obvious to a noob like me.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Stock roms are ODIN flashed .

I guess that explains it!
Thanks for the quick reply.
If i need to re-route after i flash, can i use any kernal or does it have to be the one that matches the ROM?

Great, all done! Flashed using ODIN and re rooted using matching kernal (i found one so just took a punt on it)
If i want to flash something like Litening Rom in future can i do that using CWM or ROM Mgr? Im sticking with stock for now but who knows, i may get more adventurous!

Hi,
I want to install cognition s2 rom on my galaxy s2 but first I wanted to know how can I go back to the stock rom if I happen to dislike the custom rom? I searched but couldn't find a concrete answer.
Thanks

Ok so maybe you can explain to me what's the difference between a rom and a kernel/firmware? Because I only see kernels on the page you sent me =)
Also, does it matter which phone/modem, csc I flash? If so how does it affects my phone?

a kernel is what directly interacts with the hardware. Every OS has this, but it's more customizable on our phones since it's based on Linux. The Rom contains the OS itself, and the software and file structure therein. The kernel even can tell the OS how fast the processor goes and how much juice to use from the battery.
from the link that JJEgan gave you, u just pick the one you want and flash with odin...thats all you need to do

A kernel is not the firmware
so flash as instructed with whatever 2.3.5 upgrade you are using .
jje
if you want 2.3.5 then you have to flash the whole package, just download one of the files from that site and flash in odin under the PDA bit
I want to root my s2 its on Kernel version BVKJ4 & Android Version 2.3.5. I dont no which one support this kernel
and i want to know if this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274 will support
I am new to rooting did read most info but scared abit
Thanks
You can root without the need to insecure kernel. The method is available in the root guide in the official firmware thread in the dev forum.
If you want to use an insecure kernel then you can use anyone of them, doesn't need to match your current firmware... just chose the latest one.
Thanks for the fast reply this mean i can use Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3 = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274

I have no idea how you got to that from the above, but yes, I guess you could use Lite'ning ROM, but that's nothing to do with what you asked for. Do you understand the difference between kernel, ROM and root?

Use the Kj3 CF-root Kernel, then you can change to which Rom you like. This is what i used and I've tried several Roms but found stock rooted does me fine

Hey guys,
How do I root my galaxy s2 with BOLPD Kernel. I can't find any insecure BOLPD Kernels. I've rooted with another kernel yesterday, but it was basicly messed up. Anybody suggestions?
It's the Netherlands version.
It's T-Mobile NL Branded. It is the i9100 version, but with some boot and down animations.
Anybody?

Help! Which file do I use ?
Listen closely, for I will say zis only once!
Go to Settings -> About phone -> Kernel Version. Note the string present there:
2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG1-CL349526
What matters most (KG1) in this case, is in bold. Try to find the matching file under downloads:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.zip
The XX and OXA identifiers are not that important. Usually a "KG1" kernel is a "KG1" kernel, and that is that. Sometimes (pretty rare) it happens there will be multiple different kernels with the same name in different firmwares, that are actually different. If this happens, they are usually only very minor changes and you should expect them to still be fully compatible. I include the "XX" and "OXA" identifiers so the very advanced users can deduce from which full firmware I have taken the kernel file.
Don't worry too much, just find the matching download and use it. What if there is no matching download ? You can ask me to make one, but I can tell you right now, I very very rarely make CF-Root's for kernels on request, unless it is the very latest kernel that has been released by Samsung. In the latter case, be sure to let me know. If there's no match and I'm not making one, try finding the closest match. You should treat "KG1" as a number, but instead of 1-9, we have 1-9, A-Z (where A would be 10, and Z would be 35). "KG2" is really close to "KG1", "KF1" is not close to "KG1" at all. I hope that makes sense.

which is that new method??
most of the people are rooting their phone for the purpose of flashing Custom ROMS, when they use any method other than rooting custom kernel they wont get CWM, so their next question will be posted How can I install CWM? therefore the best method to suggest for rooting is flashing custom Kernel.
If CF-root is not available for the perticual firmware, there are many other rooting kernels are available for ICS like Siyah, Speedmod etc..regardles of the firmware version number. better to recommend them instead of others....

You can use other rooting method too...
this is the ODIN flashable siyah Kernel, which will give you rooting as well as CWM.

Hey, I can't really find it. I will provide you the informations:
Modelnumber:
GT-i9100
Android-Version
4.0.3
Baseband-Version
I9100BOLP5
KernelVersion
[email protected] #3
BuildNumber
IMP74k.BOLPD
You would be better off not rooting but learning the basics first save bricking your phone .
Open link scroll to ICS builds locate LPC follow instructions flash via Odin .
CF-Root-SGS2_BU_VOD_LPC-v5.4-CWM5.zip

You hand it to em on a plate/spell it right out (slowly) & some of em still can't find the right kernel Would hate to be your phone right about now.

This new method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
He was failing to understand/find the Cf root, this is the simplest method.
Plus yes it don't give you the cwm manager or cwm, but you can always use the stock recovery and choose that same cwm to get cwm and flash your ROM.
Plus no triangle and no counter.
Hi Guys,
Now, I'm not the least bit knowledgeable about rooting, mods, or ROMs, or even what they are. All I know is that the two bottom vibrating keys don't work after I had to reinstall a new screen. So I got the Virtual-Button bar, and ended up rooting my I9300 with CWM and SuperSU and Odin.
It's been working great for a few months. Now here's the problem.
I got a software update today, and I didn't even think about it before downloading it. Then when it rebooted, here is what it says.
Virtual Button Bar: Unable to execute as root
CWM: This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-Root v.5.0 or newer. It apperas you are running a different kernel. Various features have been disabled. (Current kernel unknown)
SuperSU: has no apps configured, but I have no way of configuring any apps because I dont have the "right-click" touch-button....
Any ideas on what to do??? I need to either unroot and re-root or find a way to fix it....
Thank you so much!
Sounds like you've lost root access. If so, you can try flashing siyah kernel through odin. This kernel has a handy root/unroot option. Also once its flashed, it auto roots your phone. let me know if this works.
Just FYI: this probably happened because the software update flashed the stock kernel which would have unrooted your phone. Flashing siyah should fix your problem

Sorry about siyah thread i should have been a bit clearer. here's a link to the dev's website http://d-h.st/users/siyah/s3. from here you can download "Siyah-s3-v1.5.3.tar" this is the one that you can use with odin. From here, assuming you already have odin on you computer, you can put your phone in download mode and flash this kernel.

actually since you've already rooted the phone once before. y not to root the phone the same way? i guessing you rooted the phone by using cf root right?
Your problem is that the OTA update flash the stock recovery and kernel. Just reflash CF Root and it should be ok.
