straight from CNN, the collective hacktivist group anonymous has a set date to take down this website. I found this interesting, this made me realize how powerful Facebook is. The entire world with everyone's information on one site, every post that has ever been posted or deleted, pictures posted or deleted, even accounts deleted have every single bit of information that ever remotely had anything to do with Facebook is still there and will be forever. "Facebook knows you better than your closest family members". Each day more information is being compromised , be careful!

Honestly, I'm all for anonymous with this one. Not with all they do, but facebook does keep all your ish, and it is ridiculous.

It's also scary to think that people don't realize that Google does EXACTLY the same thing as Facebook, except probably a lot more efficiently. Does anyone think for a minute that Google couldn't access records of every keystroke you've ever made while logged in?

I agree. And whats more scary about google is not only do they have people's social networking info... for all of us with Android phones they have access to all of your emails, contacts, phone calls, texts, gps locations, web browsing, searches, pics, videos....the list goes on. I realized that for the first time when I used google nav on my phone one day to find a local bbq spot and when I got home and got on my laptop there were ads for bbq on chrome browser for my gmail. I didnt think anything about it at first then i was like wait.... WTF??

either way, it's not good.
So many ignorant and sexist assumptions here, it's disgusting. Some of you guys are downright pathetic.
OP, talk it out with your girlfriend, if she's genuinely paranoid, figure out the root of the paranoia, and explain to her carefully how there is nothing you can "monitor", and doing so is illegal anyway.
Just because someone is paranoid about privacy doesn't mean they have something to hide, especially when it could be that the person in question is new to the idea of a smartphone (especially a smartphone that powerful and versatile).
Unless her worries are truly causing friction in your relationship, if she is still paranoid, just let it go.

Tried? They do that now! Have been.
I am not a lawyer but I'm still not seeing how merging privacy policies gives Google more data. I would think they had the data before, it's one company.
Personally I was a freaked out more by the Google DART cookie setup a few years back. When Google basically said we are going to have this cookie on your computer tracking what you do. Since so many sites use Google Analytics, Google AdSense, etc. that means they know a lot about what you do even outside of Google sites. Since you can't really "log-out" of Google services on your Android phone I've always wondered how much they track.
Google ad opt out add on, moved email to hushmail and deleted contacts. I win.. unless they truly don't delete stuff. If not that should be illegal.

Yikes. I don't care for Apple personally, but I certainly don't wish death upon anyone.
If they really have patents on their technology, then they are doing the right thing by protecting their intellectual property. You just can't go around stealing other peoples stuff. I'm not saying HTC or Samsung or anyone else stole anything, just saying that IF they did - then they are facing their consequences.
The Patent War has gotten out of control with ALL the manufactures. Just seems this is the first that has actually stopped a device in its tracks. All this patent stuff is BS I would hate having the job of making sure a device doesn't infringe on one of Apples, Samsungs, Motorola, Googles, etc's patents. I would be willing to be that just about any device would infringe on some patented somewhere.

It has gotten out of control. Something so minor should not be enough to block a shipment. Plus, that is a feature BUILT into Android, so they should not be after HTC but Google for that. I think devices that have skins can be attacked more because they added those patent violating features themselves vs. just building from google's source.

The patent they are talking about was applied for back in 1996 and granted in 1999. It is for clicking on a recognizable text string and bringing up a menu or performing a UI action. So, yes, clicking on a telephone number will no longer bring up the dialer, or clicking on an email address will not bring up the email app, etc. Which I think is ****ing bull****. It's common sense that when I click on a telephone number it brings up the dialer. Who wouldnt think of that? I didnt think things that were blatantly obvious were patentable. But I guess if you're crApple you can get anything patented.

This patent crap has gotten out of control. This is basically how computers work.
Imagine on your home computer, clicking on a link in xda and it doesn't open, just highlights it, then you have to copy and paste to go to that page.
Why would apple be given a patent for this? Its ridiculous and HTC has ALREADY removed the feature from their phones so the fact that they are still blocking them is asinine.

Oh I agree, but that is for the courts to decide. I think it needs to be more in-depth. Like prove that the programming code was stolen or something. Not just that the end result is the same. Kind of like prescription drugs. There are the brand names that have the rights to it, and then there are generics that are the same thing but branded differently.
Yes this may never work, but currently at the end of my shift at work, and I started thinking what would really show people what's going on behind the scenes with Apple suing HTC and Samsung. And this is the idea that I came up with, with the idea that it probably would never work, but hey its just a thought lol.
We've seen HTC comparing itself to Samsungs GSIII, just trying to compare itself. What if HTC and Samsung did it together with Google as the head supporter of Android, with a headline of something around, "Apple's run scared, attempting to ban these phones from you." Or "Meet the phones that Apple is terrified off..." Something in that sense to stir up curiousity and interest in. And on my mind, YMMV, I picture the OG EVO commercials with the Andrioids flying around the phone and showing it off with quotes from reviews.
But in the end, a for more info go to here, to show the potential customer what is going on since none of Apple's lawsuits are very big in the news unfortunately.
Obviously HTC and Sammy fans don't get along too well, but the Android OEMS seriously need to stick together for some time if they're ever going to have a chance if Apple keeps chipping away at them with court.
Reminder, this is just my personal opinion, but please share what you think of it. Or what you would add / change because I'm curious of this would ever be a true way to really give Apple some SERIOUSLY BAD PR, or if I'm just some nut case, who needs to get a job with daytime hours lol.

I work nights as well and I sometimes wonder if I am crazy bc my ideas make so much sense. I really like your idea. But any revenge on apple right now seems good to me.
Apple will always have their hardcore followers. No matter how much better my EVO LTE is the hardcore apple-ites will say Apple has better blah blah blah. And they will inevitably say "that's the phone that violated all the apple patents!" *snarl/*
Anyways, I like your idea. Don't think it's gonna happen though.
You know the iPhone's use of google maps generates 40% of Google's income? And now that Apple is deciding to make its own map app to replace Google maps as the default in iPhone it seems like an all out break in the companies.
Apple isn't innovating anymore, all they're doing is filing stupid patents and suing. They'll probably win because they are on top and have the $ to pay lawyers where other companies don't.
Sorry about the rant, I usually post on android central. Come here to check out the mods and roms so I don't post much.

I don't know what the percentage is but I bet it's a good amount, much more than 2% but no where near 40%.
"Mobile ads associated with maps and location data account for about a quarter of all mobile ad revenue. That's money Apple wants and Google doesn't want to lose out on."
http://www.businessinsider.com/wsj-apple-will-ditch-google-maps-on-ios-later-this-year-2012-6
It would be a much bigger blow if Apple were to get rid of Google search all together but I do feel the maps thing will put a bit of a dent in Google's bottom line.

That makes sense but that 40% probably made up of mostly of searching yes?

Just read it on usatoday tech news I believe. Let me find the link. Maybe it's google mobile.

Yes, 40% of google mobile search ad revenue. Or 1.5 billion. Not a whole lot right?
The first article I read did not make it abundantly clear what part of google it was. They are just estimates too. Because even tho we are talking about iPhone users they will still be able to figure out how to use Google maps
Well, u would think.

I agree, I'm just saying it's going to sting a bit at Google. Hopefully it might help them get on the manufacturers and carriers a bit more to make sure they're selling quality products, I love Android but some of the stuff that gets put out there is absolute crap.
I know this thread has gotten off topic so I say to the OP, that might help if Google were to advertize. They make almost all their money off of ads but don't advertize themselves. The carriers do advertize phones a bit but they're more interested in selling you on their network than a specific phone. Not to mention the fact 3 of the 4 national carriers sell the iPhone so they wouldn't put down one of their own products.
Yeah, just came up with 40% off the top of my head because I was smoking crack.
Reading news on apple/google
Smoking crack
I can see how u would see the relation there.

Lol at least someone understands where I'm coming from. I doubt this will ever work but it was just an idea at the time.
But overall, I feel Google needs to help the OEMs stick together, for some amount of time, just to make it harder for Apple to try to make its dream of shutting Android down. Yes it would be hard, but on their current path, they may get their chance.
I laughed at some of the comments, but I guess the question I was trying to get around to ask,
Do you think google and the OEMs should make commercials with Google as the headliner to tell the world what Apple is suing about? I think if the overall general public knew, besides us tech enthusiasts , maybe people would see Apple for who they really are...
Just my two cents, and go!

I agree, that's why I never suggested the carrier's to make the commercial because they don't want to have conflicts I suspect, and they only care to sell, regardless the product.

This is actually what I've been hoping would happen for quite a while. It's much easier to pick them off one by one than to attack a united front. Unfortunately the all-mighty (dollar, euro, whatever) always wins out. If the manufacturers and Google could put aside their differences and come together and attack Apple, I think Apple would be forced to back down. For the first time in 4 years Android's world-wide usage dropped last quarter. It only dropped about 0.6% (from, I think, 51% to 50.4%) but a drop none the less. Symbian had over 50% of the market 4yrs ago, now it's dead. "Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it" -Winston Churchill

This is what I was aiming for. Google needs to make serious friends, not just wayside acquaintances, to make Android that much stronger.

What device are you sending them to? Since you have successfully received them I assume you know the nfc chip is on the upper quarter of the phone, not in the middle like the sgs3 and 4

I was trying to send a picture to my friends Nexus 4. When I placed the phone behind his I even had the option to "beam now" or whatever it says. When I clicked the image I saw my image beam towards his phone (the image shrunk or whatever it does) but he did not get the image, instead it opened up his google play market app. He sends images to me and other people no problem and his phone receives from other phones
Are you sending the pictures while in the gallery?
Yes

Mr. Cell Master, I really would recommend you delete your account and start over, and this time don't put your full name and city in your profile, John Ficek from Homer Glen, IL. Also, lock down your Facebook so the world can't see where you go to highschool, kid. Your girlfriend did a much better job at locking her Facebook down than you did.
Op, didn't you hear? To do an NFC transfers you have to add that feature on to your AT&T account.
I think it's funny he's asking for help from the community he constantly tries to extort. It's hilarious.

.......... but not as funny as this. For crying out loud, don't kids know better than to blast their info all over the internet like that? At LEAST make it difficult for the crazies to find you. I mean, you're rocking that Justin Bieber hair and there was this plot to... ahem, neuter him.

A simple google search with the name pretty much gives you the street he lives on, if that's him and not someone who took the image and name off the internet.
This thread got so word so quick. I'm surprised the mods haven't closed this thread yet simply based on who started it and now I'm even more surprised it's still open based on how off topic it has become.
On another note, I can't believe the op hasn't deleted his account yet and just started over. Surely he is tired of every one harrasing him. And no that isn't me defending. I agree with it. Just surprised he's still here.

well, you're paying your share of insurance with cash, but the insurance premium is a "bill", so you do pay "bill".. maybe not "billS"..
anyway, sorry for off-topic, but I have to say that the thread about "downloading update from AT&T and pushing it to the phone" "basically tricking the phone" didn't come across as a joke to me, but rather a very strange and bewildering attempt to scam people for donations. and you did it again with the "HTC logo as a capacitive button" thread. So your assertion that the AT&T update thread was just a joke is a little hard to swallow. I they were both jokes, perhaps you should bounce them off someone before posting, just to see if anyone else finds them funny.
