Ok so I had dropped my gtablet like couple days ago and its in apx mode the problem is the screen is not coming on so I want to rule out the screen cable from being unseated. If anyone can give me step by step instructions on how to open the gtablet, especially on how to remove those annoying "rubber pads" and which tool to use to do that that would be of great help. Keep in mind I am a beginner at this..
Thanks!
remove the 4 rubber plugs and remove the screws, slide a credit card or cellphone removal tool starting from the bottom docking connector and go around the tablet, it should pop open.

yes i know how to remove that but when I tried removing it with a very small phillips screwdriver i heard ripping noises so i stopped is there anything small maybe a flathead?
As far as removing the rubber pads, the best thing way I have found is to use pry from the inside out, meaning from the center of the tablet out at 45 degree angle. As for actually taking the thing apart I recommend getting one of these kits.

They say they are for an iPhone, but I don't own an iPhone and I have used the kit a hundred times it feels like.

OK, I've gone and done a embarrasing thing ;o)
had the top of the stylus bit unscrewed. put the bottom bit in the holder on XDA, and it appears to have dropped down!
no amount of prising with screwdriver etc can get it out ;(
Any suggestions for how to get it out?
Disassemble etc?
Thanks,
Ben
I did the same thing, I got a small jewellers screwdriver and pushed it down while exerting pressure to one side, it took a few pulls but it got there gradually. The best thing would be if you can find something longer than the top part of the stylus with the same thread and screw that in, since it happened to me I went to a local engineering place and they sold me a piece of threaded bar that does the trick.
thanks - is there any danger of affecting the circuitry if I start poking?
its just, i was looking at the XDA internals photos, and there doesn't seem to be a proper seperator?
I'll try a small screwdriver..thanks

I used the plastic top of a 3 in one stylus I bought (and discovered was a lot of rubbish because the reset pin was too big) and trimmed down the plastic, attached it to a piece of tube, and stuck it in, screwed it onto the bit in there and pulled it out.
ruined a stylus though.
..Chuck..
I can be so stupid sometimes.
Went and did what you did Chuck, but forgot to attach the tubing or any means of getting it out
Gonna try a tiny dab of glue...
I did the same thing on the Xda II. Unfortunately the narrower stylus makes it even harder to find a suitable tool
Found that the (plastic) end of a children's small paintbrush was just the job!
Can't get it out now
Does anyone know what screwdrivers I need to disassemble XDA?
It looks like a standard straight one, and a torx one of some size?
@tabbycat: Where did you get the XDA II?
Same thing happened to me: I just gently banged the tip of the antenna on the table. Dropped right out. But then maybe my stylus holder has become quite loose...

HI,
It appears that the usb port on my t-mobile vario is loose and so it does not charge on the mains charger or via the usb cable on a pc.
So the question is:- How do you open it up to replace / repair the usb port?
I had a look through all the threads I could find dealing with usb port, but none dealt with this particular problem.
A "how to" with pictures would be great, but even a step by step would be useful.
many thanks to all who use and help on this site, without it we would all be worse off!!
Regards,
John

Replace USB port
Ok, It appears that no one has had to do this yet, or the ones who have are not online at present.
I have managed to work it out.
There are four torx screws holding the back cover on.
Two are easy to get at, they are the ones near the usb port. The only problem is that they are smaller than a size 4 torx driver!! I managed to get them undone using an ordinary flat blade screwdriver of the right size from a kit of mini flat and cross blade screwdrivers.
When you undo one of them it also holds in place the little metal bit which you use to put a necklace strap thorough - don't lose any bits!!
The next bit was a bit tricky but only because I did not know how it came apart!
There is a cover which goes over the section which has the camera in it. This needs to be "uncliped", you need to start the unclipping from the open end section near the battery, as there are two "prongs" which go in under the end near the sd slot.
There are two more torx screws at this end that need undoing as well.
The next bit is not really difficult but it is if you don't want to mark your case!
You have to "unclip" the back from the middle bit of the phone, it is held in place by clips that go from the back section into the middle section. I started at the bottom end near the usb port and just used the small flat bladed screwdrivers I had to ease the two sections apart.
At this point you will probably find a couple of bit are now loose inside between the two sections. One is a long black piece of plastic which is held in place by the one of the torx screws you removed earlier. Try and remember where it came from as it is easier when you put the case back together to know where it goes, than to try and work it out.
The second bit floating around will be the USB port! (If it has totaly come off like mine had).
Now you will probably see that the soldered joints are white and furry, this is because they are what is called "dry joints".
Now if you have a reasonably steady hand, good eyesight (or a good pair of magnifying glasses or something similar), you can see that there are four "legs" made from the metal cover of the usb port which no doubt will have come loose. These will need to be soldered back on to the circuit board again along with the 5 "TINY" usb wire connections. I had to modify my soldering iron tip with a file to make it small enough not to solder them all together!! Once they are securley soldered back in place, you can put your phone back together again!
I was told by two mobile phone shops I went into here in the UK that the phone would have to be sent back to HTC to be fixed. I fixed mine in a couple of hours......
I also noticed that it is possible to buy a replacement USB port on E-Bay for this phone if yours is to badly damaged or you just want to use a new one.
Well, I hope this is of help to someone.
Regards,
John
I removed the 4 screws underneath the rubber feet and was wondering what was the easiest way to open up the exterior shell without damaging anything. I understand, by reading the tear down thread, there are 3 clip on each side. Any detailed instruction on how you did it and what you used would be greatly appreciated.
Im currently trying to fix the headphone jack that only outputs through on channel and causes various programs to think that headphones are being plugged in and taken out. It also prevents any sound to escape the exterior speakers unless pressure is applied. Since I'm use my Gtab to take notes for school so I can't part with it for 3+ weeks.
Also does anyone know if the drivers for the hardware are natively in android or are they baked in by the manufacturer?
-Thanks, Oscar
I just opened mine up this weekend. I would suggest starting on the lower left corner as you hold the tablet in normal landscape orientation and work your way towards the dock port with a plastic pry tool...I used a spatula Continue carefully around and your all good.
When screws are removed, try pulling by hand in each coiner to see which one comes loose, when you got one, use a plastic opening tools and pry the back out slowly, if you don't have a tools, use a credit card (the expired one is better ... lol) will be fine.
Can't find the clips
Hi, I just cracked my power jack. I need to open mine.
I still can't find the three clips on each side.
Do you have a picture/vid or any site I can refer to?
Thanks
Any way to remove the rubber feet/caps without destroying them so they can be put back in? The power jack is going bad in my tab and I have a feeling I'm going to need to attempt repairs soon .

see my post above ,,, there are more than 3 clips
for me, the easiest way was to open the flap for the microusb slot (and full size USB port location) and pull apart from there. That point gave me the best leverage to get it apart and then I moved around the tablet to open it up.
good luck!
Use credit card or similar to run around the gap. This worked well from me

Thanks to all of you. Just opened the backcover and pushed the reset button and voila...Vroom..the gtab swung into action and birds began flying and I had ICS again. This gives me reason and more courage to stick with this rom.

Will surely do it soon.
I replaced my screen after I broke it by following the instructions in this pdf guide: (New user, so I cant post links, sorry!) His site begins with rdtk, perhaps you have seen it.
The guide refers to a 'brown part that can flip up' when removing the digitizer cable connection but I couldn't see it. However his photos show it clearly:
(New user, cant post links, sorry!)
However I didn't find those photos until after I had reassembled it.
The Streak boots OK (so the on/off button works!) but gets to the screen where I have to enter a pin code and I then discovered that the screen is unresponsive to touch input. So I cant get past the pin code screen. The screen itself is working fine but is no longer touch responsive.
I have removed the case a couple of times, but the brown flip part is clearly missing and I wonder was it always missing or did I break it.
The cable seems a fairly loose fit so perhaps without the flip up part it is not making a good connection.
Any ideas how I can fix this predicament?
Thanks, Bernie.

Maybe try removing your new screen and comparing it with old make sure all connections are the same, also check all connections are secure just incase something aint slotted right

The clip thing is defo there, Ive done it loads of times, the thing does go in quite tight, but maybe you ripped out the old screen without unclipping it, and in turn the old connector had broke off inside the clip, and its blocking the connection to he new screen?
No, the old cable is intact and there's nothing blocking the connector. I suspect I misunderstood the instructions I was following and ripped out the ribbon without unclamping the flip up brown clamp, I was trying to flip up what I thought he was referring to but now see it was just part of the cable. Thus I damaged the clamp and it's now gone. I suspect that my problem is that the ribbon cable is now not being held securely, so in a desperate bid to save this I think I will try and make a tiny wedge and wedge it on top of the cable to press it down securely onto the contacts in the connector.
If I could source a bricked Streak, I might be able to salvage the brown clips and re-use them but chances of getting one in Australia are low.
i had the same problem, just get a sturdy business card and cut it up into a little piece and use that to wedge it on top of the cable
Thanks illa, I will try that.
I am here to kneel before you.
I did the exact same thing due to following a guide that didn't really emphasize this very important point about the clamps.
At first I wasn't sure.I thought I had just screwed up or may be my replacement screen was bad.
Upon closer inspection I broke two of the clamps, and noticed that the one that attaches to the digitizer was just a little loose. Sure enough the biz card wedge did the trick.
Thank you !
Does anyone have a service manual for the Jetstream ?
I wanted to take off the back cover and fix a large dent I got on it. I bought the 249.00 special on eBay. Other than that, the screen is perfect and the device works fine.
Now for some rooting and hacking !
I got two of those.lol.
There is a service manual on the internet but it doesn't tell you how to disassemble the JetStream; you won't find a guide like that anywhere.
I managed to open it but the battery is superglued to the back door aluminum plate and there are two rather frail cables that attach the battery to the motherboard and it uses a weird type of clip on connector that I haven't seen before; I didn't want to rip off that connector so I just put it back together and decided to live with the small dent in the back door. Get a nice cover and you won't even see it.
Moral of the story is....if it ain't broken don't try to fix it.

Yep, I have to agree with the moral of the story. I thought if it was simply, I'd give it a go !
This will have to do til the next tablet. I'm loving it so far.

I accidentally stuff a microSD card into the SIM card slot. Would appreciate very much if you could describe what tools (e.g.,TORX #'s) and a brief instruction how to open up a Jetstream. Thanks very much in advance.
Are there any microphone controls in this piece? It seems that the when we do a voice chat the voice is not picked up. Any help is appreciated

Sorry for the late reply, haven't checked this site in a while. Honestly I opened mine up so long ago that I barely remember the location of the screws, but you should be able to take them off with a T-6. Once you remove them, use a thin, plastic, prying tool to separate the back plate from the front piece - triple check to make sure you got all the screws out. It takes some effort to do it but be very patient and gentle with it; don't forget the wire that runs from the battery to the metal rear piece once you open it.
If I still had my jetstream I'd make a video or a disassemble guide with pics but I sold mine a while ago; got tired of waiting around for an updated android ROM. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply
