[Q] "No Service" Error - Qtek 1010 - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi guys I brought an old Qtek 1010 two days ago. The problem is that no SIM is working in the set and when I start to make a call it shows an error "No Service" I tried many service providers. I also tried XDA Developer's ROM (WM 2002) and WM 2003 and I also tried to change the band from 900/1800 to 900 and 1800 but the problem remains same. Please help to getting out of it. I am in Pakistan and tried all the available services.

Upgrade to O2 ROM from i-mate- Is it worth?

Hi folks,
I have an i-mate with the following specs:
ROM : 1.72.00WWE
Radio : 1.14.00
Protocol : 1337.24
Ext ROM : 1.72.800
After going through the numerous posts here, I am thoroughly confused. Can someone please clarify the following:
1. Is is better to upgrade to the new O2 ROM? If so which one, since I understand there are 2 versions.
2. If I do upgrade, there seems to be something called O2 active. Would this or any other settings hamper the usage of my phone since I live in India?
3. Can I have the procedure to do this upgrade?
My humble apologies if some of these questions have been answered before, but frankly, I am completely lost! :? Thanks a ton in advance.
Cheers!
Lakshman
Lakshman,
Will try to help you out once by compiling everthing from other threads:
1) There are 2 versions: (thanks to Nighthawk)
- v1.72.187 does not have Blackberry software built in. If you need to use a permanent GPRS connection that will remain connected when phone is used, you should use 187 version.
- v1.72.181 features Blackberry, will disconnect any connection when phone rings, except the Blackberry, Mobile Web and WAP connections. But so far haven't heard of any non UK O2 users able to use the Blackberry.
2) About 02 Active, i find it pretty but useless to non UK 02 users; therefore, once you upgraded your ROM it will prompt you for O2 Active Settings like Country, GPRS or GSM, just hit 'Cancel' and it won't install the GRPS or other network settings. You can still use the O2 Active but a lot of function will not be available for use in India. I removed mine.
3) Not too sure if your unit is CDL or O2 (info from HimaGetDeviceData.exe) but my upgrade was no issue at all; i just download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12515 and ran the upgrade. If you encounter country ID error, then you would have to refer to DCS's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12101
Hope this helps.

You mean I canot use my GPRS after cancelling and what other network settings are you referring to?
Can you elaborate? Thanks

RE
Hi Lazzy,
Thanks to your input, I went through the upgrade successfully. Many thanks to DCS for his excellent step-by-step guide to fix country id errors.
I am now facing a curious problem. I downloaded the Appsuite for XDA II provided in one of the forums here. When I try to install the utilities I get an error on my PPC saying could not install, "please upgrade your ROM and try again!" But I believe I have the latest ROM now. Could someone please advise. :?
Cheers!

We are trying to sort this one out Hopefully someone will come up with an answer soon.
Hi guys,
thanks for running an awsom website...
I just want some clarification on this thread.
So it is okay to upgrade an i-mate with an O2 Rom such as v1.72.181 and is this the best ROM for devices such as the I-mate currently?
Anyone? please answer my previous question as I really want to upgrade...
bump..
As for the os and radio you can use any 1.72 / 1.17 rom.
The differencen between al the roms is in the extended rom and thus just a matter of functionality you want : choose anyone you like and use dcs' guide to upgrade.
thanks man, I appreciate it.

You've altered your IMEI... Nobody will help you. It's illegal in the UK.
Having said that, though, I was planning to upgrade to WM2k5. Maybe i'll leave it as it is for the moment...

The imei would not change by flashing rom, what makes you think it has?
What exactly happens when you insert O2 sim, do you get signal, can you dial out, what tone if any do you get, what is the signal level? Have you tried the o2 sim in another phone just in case it has become faulty. Can you ring the xda phone when o2 sim is inserted, what message does the calling phone get?
I don't know any thing in the XDA to change my IMEI
any way this my XDA pic I hope u can help me

I’ve been sent as a gift from my friend in Spain a new i-mate windows mobile pocket pc phone edition – HTC Himalayas Model PH10B. It did not come with a SIM card.
On starting for the first time (booting in English) it then immediately went on to “personalize” itself (in Spanish) and seemed to set to Vodafone (with a spanish CDS number and airtel.es I think for ISP services)?
I obviously want to use it with a UK network SIM card (I would prefer to use my contract O2 SIM)
I installed Outlook 2002 from the companion CD (ver 1.0 sept 2003), then downloaded and installed ActivSync 3.8. The device connects no problem to my desktop computer (winXP) via USB and my Outlook Contacts etc synchronize to the device OK.
I used the xda2ulock.exe v2.2 tool which now tells me that everything is "unlocked".
I tried to flash upgrade the ROM using O2 xdaII ROM’s with no success. I also tried to flash/upgrade the ROM to version: 1.72.00wwe and Radio version: 1.14.00 by downloading RUU172126WWE_imate.exe and RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe from the Club i-mate web site. The main ROM refused to upgrade, (I tried twice) stalling with the Country ID error message and leaving the device in the Serial/USB bootloader v1.06 grey screen. Fortunately the Extended ROM (RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe) recovered the device so that I now at least have: -
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM date: 02/02/04
Radio version: 1.10.00
Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version: 1.72.800
and an i-mate screen.
Device Data returns the following information: -
U S B 3 2 - 1 . 6 6 . 0 0 W W E - P H 1 0 - C D L - W W E - 1 . 7 2 . 8 0 0 - 1 . 1 0 . 0 0
Using a Vodafone UK SIM card, the phone send/receives texts, connects to the Internet and detects all other UK Networks when searching manually. However, it will not receive or send any phone calls, even though the signal strength indicator shows all thermometer bars (4) OK and the “G” icon appears next to Vodafone UK under “connectivity”. (The device just doesn’t want to know my O2 SIM card – won’t do anything!)
Now I discover that when dialing *#06# the IMEI number shown (which matches Settings/System/Device Information/Identity) is not the same IMEI number as shown on the packaging label and the silver label inside the device behind the battery!

Follow the instructions for using the xda2nbftool (available from this website... Use the search function) to alter the ROM image files country and operator codes to the same as your PDA. Your rom images should load then.
If they don't, then i'm afraid i'm no more help. It worked for me, so I never got to fool around with problems that can occur (Running o2 ROM on Orange SPV M1000, as my sig says).
DeathJester thank u for ur reply but its still no work with O2
please I need Help
Midn, telephone O2 and present them with that imei number, ask them to check if it blocked for some reason.

About your problem:-- Have you tried to hard reset yr device??? If not then the HD can solve this prob.
About the GPRS and MMS:-- I have the cab file for configuring the settings but for BSNL north zone only. Which zone are you located in??
I had written to O2 about this issue because they released settings for Pakistan and Dubai some time back and I wanted to find out when they do it for India. This is what they replied.

Thank you for contacting O2 Asia Technical Support.
With regards to your query below, currently our engineers are working
together with the Telco in your region to try resolve the issue, and we are
not updated of the outcome at the moment.
Thank you.

I guess if lot of people bug them, they do someting about it.
Hi,
There is an alternative option..since we now can extract the extended ROM and view the cabs. What we can do is delete the unwanted cabs and put our settings cab with GPRS and MMS settings..flash it back so they remain permenantly..
Else the cabs are already there..I can tell the hint..use any of the operator seting cab and edit it with CAB Manager.Change the name, the wap provisioning DOC and save the cab.
In most of the cases Access point name is required...I can put the ones which I know..others can add to it.
