Because there are hacks that can raise the volume past what the software allows, but it crackles and I was afraid I'd blow the speaker. So yea....its both.

This may be a dumb question....

I am hard of hearing. What Rom or is just an app is recommended?.... has the best and clearest sound for music? Thank you in advance.

Through the speaker on the phone or headphones?
PowerAmp I believe has an EQ you can use to boost some levels, for the most part, the max volume is going to be a limitation of the phone.

Agreed, PA & headphones are the best you can do.
No ROM is going to matter much.
Thank you very much

Actually, it just occured to me -the headphone amp I use (Fiio E6) not only improves the sound of good quality headphones quite a bit, it will make the sound loud enough to totally deafen any normal person........

I thought the same thing until I saw how tiny this thing actually is.
It weighs absolutely nothing & is about the size of a matchbook.
Believe me, it is worth the little extra effort to use it & if you can't hear with this in place you would have to be completely deaf.

Very low audio when on a call!!

Just curious if anyone is havin low volume in call speaker volume issues??? Ever since I flashed an ics Rom my speaker is extremely low to the point I have to SMASHED the phone against my ear to hear or put it on speaker!!! Idk if its blown which I don't see how and I was wandering if I ruu back to stock will it fix it but I'm thinkin not!!! Any ideas folks??

I have the same issue. I flashed Virtuous yesterday and now all in call volumes are super quiet.
Look for a file called "Sense4.0_InCall_Vol_Fix.zip"
It fixed mine.

^^^ So all your audio is very low, just not your call volume? Media volume is pretty low on the 3d, but my phone volume was VERY low after flashing ICE. After doing the in_call.zip fix, my media volume is still low, but my phone volume is back to what it was under 2.3*.
Maybe a thread title change?

No my speaker is fine....went back to drops gt rom and the audio is fine its just when I'm on a call I can't hear ish lol its so low that I have to turn my speaker on to even hear them!! My speaker has be good without an issue (knock on wood) but ever since I flashed an ics rom like few days later all of a sudden I can't hear ppl on the other end really

FWIW, I'm using Newts RC3. If you haven't given his ROM a shot, might be worth a try. It could still be a bit louder, but it went from unusable to workable.

change rom
I would try a different rom, mean rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466362
is an awsome rom and use chads kernal qualcom 1a will allow you to use beats which can help get youur media volume higher and cleaner. But watch your speaker like always if you think its pushing to hard it probly is.
Is there a setting in your rom to boost the volume? My old desire had that.
weird. i have leedroid on mine and it's perfect.
my mate got an evo 3d, i s-off'ed it etc and restored my nandroid and deleted what he didn't want etc....and his is nearly silent. Brand new phone so i doubt it's a blown speaker. Very odd.

Why didn't you say it wasn't loud enough, or the volume was low
You can try a louder sound clip, but don't boost it too much, else it will distort, and distortion is bad.

Turn it upside down, sorry, couldn't resist. That's one thing I really liked about my OG. With the extended battery, laying it on it's back on speaker phone the sound would bounce off the surface and expand the sound dispersion.

I think its much louder than the.3D.
Sent from my EVO LTE!!
Does anyone know how the speaker compares to e4gt? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
It is much louder than the EVO 3D. I was very disappointed with the EVO 3D volume, but this phone, IMO, has great volume out of the box.
Sent from my EVO 4G LTE using Tapatalk 2
I too agree that the speaker volume is low!
coming from the Evo 3D this speaker is louder than a Mother F*****
I have both phones playing the same tune, side by side in sync at max volume with both speakers facing me. They are pretty darn close.
Possible slight edge to EVO LTE and just a bit more edge for LTE listening from the front (speaker facing away). Sounds comes around the bottom center better on the LTE than the dead center of the 3D.
acoustics.... get you some!
put the phone in a deep container, vase, gallon pitcher, any cylindrical object with a wider mouth than bottom.
you can aim it in any direction you desire, it will be 2x-5x louder.
i listen to music from my phone while i shower, simply putting the phone in the bottom of the sink is plenty
A guy a phone and a cup. thats how i roll

Yeah it's great to have a phone again that I can hear when ringing! I can't tell you how many phone calls, sms or gtalk messages I missed because of the low volume on the EVO 3D.

Beats audio....

I am New To Beats Auido and it does sound great... But my speakers seem quiet.. The ringer and notifications need to be brought up more... I have been look for some kind of eq or Something (yes I did check.. All the volumes are up!).
I would. Just. Think that with beats audio I would get a app like voodoo....
So is There a. Beats audio app or am I going to have to wait. For a. Kernal and voodoo???

Beats Audio essentially IS an EQ (a bad one at that) that cranks your bass and highs, and muddles everything in between. Sound is pretty great with it turned off.
I have also found the volume on this phone to be annoyingly low though - no idea how to fix that one. Anything below "half" on the volume meter is almost inaudible.

Any apps that boost volume?

Any apps that increase volume not just ringtone volume but music as well? All in all great phone, the only knock I have is the volume level.
I believe Volume+ does. I use it on my TFPrime.
Check out Meridian for Graphic EQ.

Equalizer apps
There are several equalizer apps that will boost the volume but the best one is call Equalizer by smart android apps. Buy the key and you can save presets for different apps like slacker radio for example or the stock music player. Works in conjunction with beats also. Just move the sliders up and enjoy more volume. Did I mention it works with bluetooth ! Also has themes available !

Been looking for something that works as well.
Coming from my S2, this speaker blows. Can't believe HTC is still putting out these low volume speakers. (I remember e3d being crappy as well)

Yes I want to boost the volume. Apps such as Pandora, Sirius, even the music player aren't very loud. These are the apps I use regularly that need a boost in volume. Even the speakerphone is fairly quiet
