Is it possible to makean exception for some apps to not be killed ever in Android. The reason why I ask is because the stock browser cannot download all file types. Specially files from filesharing websites, such as uploaded.to, filesonic and a lot of other ones. That's extremely important to me. The only browser which handles these files properly is Opera. Downloads in Opera are managed with the browser environment unlike the stock browser which continues downloads in the OS even after the browser is terminated. Opera doesn't stay alive for too long tthough. So for downloading huge files I have to leave it open the whole time while the download completes. If I switch apps Opera gets terminated after some time and there goes my download. Can I somehow set an exception for this app?
Second question: Can someone tell me why cut the rope doesn't work on the the Tab. Both stock honeycomb and touchwiz are unable to run the game. It FCs as soon as I tap on it.that's the only game I play lol

When the vibrant first came out, the first thing that caught my attention was no matter how many apps I was running, they were going to be there waiting (in memory) for me to come back, multitasking at its best. This happened especially with the web browser. If you were browsing the web and needed to grab something from another app, take call or message; once back in the browser, everything was there in the same place (and up to 8 tabs/windows). My previous phone was the Mytouch 3g, which needed to reload all tabs when back into the browser, or even worse, just the home page.
After the froyo update was released (I not sure if this happened as well on the update that supposedly fixed the gps back on October), all apps started to be killed by the system after you switch from them even for a few seconds. This is especially annoying in the web browser. No matter how long you are away from the browser, once back all tabs/windows start reloading. I know that at this point all task-killer-lovers would say why I am complaining about this. Basically is that I would love to decide which app stays and which app goes. I know that if you leave an app running for a long time, the system would kill it eventually when in need of resources, but that doesn’t mean leaving the browser for 2 seconds and everything starts to reload.
I have tried dolphin and opera with the same result. This has happen to me when running the stock froyo update from Tmobile, Nero V, Axura 2.2.7 & 8, Ginger Clone Final and Bionix V 1.2.1. I have tried without any luck killing the task manager process, remove the jobmanager.apk and even used other task killers to see if the ignore list feature had some effect.
Searching the web for an answer only shows a few posts about this, everybody since to like the app-killing way or thinks is not a problem for what it’s worth.
A note about the app-killing term, I don’t know if what is happening in my system is actually the app being terminated. I say this because it doesn’t show on the native task manager, but once you go back to the browser or apps like Google reader usually the page is there, of course, after all reloading is done (time, time and more time) and the information you were trying to fill out or the news you were reading is gone.
Hey people please tell me your favorite 5 apps. Also let me know your top 5 games; separately. I want to make a video on it.
Thanks
EDIT: Please don't mention the apps which require you to root your phone. Also, please be sure to give a short description of the app you mention!
CWR
SU (root)
TB
everything else is just icing on top
with root:
AndroSS: probably the easiet screenshot application out there, it has the option to use the acceleramtors. IE: shake the phone and take the pic (shake it like a poloroid picture!)
SetCPU: a must have for incredikernal users.
without root:
Dolphin Browser (uses the mozilla source code, each rom i flash that's the first app i re-install)
Pandora
SiriusXM (requires pre-exisisting subscription with SiriusXM Sattelite Radio)
Speedtest.net: going to the webpage in the browser will automaticly re-direct you to the market download link
Launcher Pro
For APPS:
Titanium Backup
Go Launcher EX
Power AMP
Drop Box
Wifi File Explorer
Dolphin Browser
CWR
Drop Box

cache cleaner NG
my backup pro
screenshot ER
terminal emulator
there are some amazing apps out there... there are other great ones i use, but just cant list them all.
Please tell me applications which do not require you to root your phone. I'm a newb. Also give a brief description of it
Also, please be sure to mention games separately! Thanks. hoping to learn a lot!
lol well like half the apps i use are root apps
hmm.. pandora radio is basically just web streaming radio app, you can Customize and save stations simply by entering 1 word and it will play songs related to your criteria… very amazing app. And it is good at putting songs together that are similar to the criteria you enter.
gesture launcher is probably my favorite... this app is so freaking useful. you basically assign swype gestures to open apps, shortcuts, any function of your phone. there is a little green android that stays on your screen at all times (very small, hardly noticeable) and whenever you are doing something and want to open a particular app or shortcut you just touch that little droid icon then draw your gesture and it opens up immediately. this app redefines "multitasking"
another good one is zedge.. basically a ringtone and wallpaper downloader
drop box does not require root.. it is a wireless file transfer portal from your phone to a computer... try that one out... amazing as well. i use it all the time.
Why not use the Market 'Top' lists. It's more comrehensive and covers a much larger sample group. i.e everybody using Android!
@vs511 : you must try to read a guide about how to root your's devide. You can you many useful app .
My best app (non root)
Astro manager - bluetool.
Advantage task killer.
QQ laucher.
Opera mobile.
AVG antivirus.
apps for me
dialer one
wifi analyzer
opera
titanium backup
opera
If you want top apps you can try different sites like apktop, appbrain, etc they will give detailed info.
i dunno why people write their apps without saying what the apps are for? stupid
For whatever reason every browser I try reloads tabs when I leave the browser. It's REALLY annoying - I'm stuck on edge most of the time, and finding out that my tabs suddenly reload just because I switched to twitter for a second.
I tried to pretty much disable the LMK, and it still did this...
I tried Chrome, Browser Plus, stock ICS browser, Dolphin and Opera (which does this slightly less often) Last time I had this problem was on my old tablet with only 256 MB of RAM. (Which still did this less often than the Note on ICS)
Every time this happened, I had at least 120 MB of ram free. Seriously, the note has a full gigabyte of ram, and yet this happens.
This doesn't happen to me on GB.
Is there anything I can do to make browsing normal again?
Like, exclude a browser from getting killed, or something?
I'm using a Galaxy Note..
Help please?
I tried all that I could, but was still unable to solve this problem.
I now had to downgrade to Gingerbread because of this issue, it is REALLY annoying.
I just want to multi task on my device...
I actually had tabs reload while I was still in the browser! Is there ANYTHING that can be done?
Still have this issue. Tried every damn browser I could, every ICS ROM I could find, but it still does this. Please help.
Maybe try Opera Mini (not opera mobile)?

Opera Mini does not really fit my needs...
And reloading tabs will still be slower than keeping them in memory, even with Opera.
Thanks for replying, though.
I wish someone who could help would reply to this thread. I'm tired of having to reload tabs almost every time too.
Asus Transformer Prime tf201 ICS
Hi all,
just adding my 2cents, I've been facing similar issue , as a lot of us, tried almost all available browsers on the google play
I'm finally using OverSkreen (floating browser) which seems able to stay on memory by registering itself in the notification area ...
Okay, it's a paid apps
Just want to let you know that I'm not advertising it, I do not know the dev and am not involved in anyway in the development
Just sharing my findings
I'm still digging that issue and landed here while searching the web ....
Hope this helps some
thanks for that, it's nice!
though i'd really love to use chrome, because of syncing and all.
Some solution here???
Try this:
1. Download the Root Explorer apk file from the link and install itit on the device.
2. Open Root Explorer and provide the root permissions.
Now tap on “Mount R/W” which can be seen on top of the screen.
Scroll down and open the “data”*directory.
Once in the /data directory, press menu key and select “New File”.
Enter the name of the file as local.prop.Now long press on local.prop and select the “Open With” option.
Now select text editor.
The app’s process name should be known to the user. For e.g. if the user wants to lock the Contacts app in memory, type “sys.keep_app_1=com.android.contacts”. “com.android.contacts” is the process of the Contacts app.
Similarly other apps can be locked in the memory in the following manner. Now press menu key and select Save and exit.
Now system will show a message saying ‘Old local.prop backed up as local.prop.bak’. And you are done.. Reboot and enjoy.
Get the app process name with apk info for exampel.

Hi, thanks for sharing your findings... Tried myself to use Xposed and app settings to make the browser stay in memory
Works really great
Only drawback is that it significantly slows down the phone so stopped that technic
Will try yours, thanks again
Hello!
I am asking myself if it's possible to set the background processes limit to "no limit"?
I just wanna try this because Opera Mobile is always getting closed while switching to an other app. So every time i start a download Opera cancels that download after running an other app like Taptu.
The build in browser can handle this much better. Also the download shows up in the status bar. But it doesn't download every file. Opera is afaik the only browser which is able to load evrry filE as on PC.
So i am asking you if you have any suggestions to this?
Greetings, Red
It is possible with JKays framework to register specific apps as service!
I'm curious to know which mobile browser you'd recommend using? I've been using Dolphin, which has been fine (great even) but after a recent update it has begun crashing repeatedly. I've been doing my research and I've been learning that if I turn off the Ad Blocking setting then it won't crash as often if at all (but then you're left open to the screen entirety ads among other things). I've also been learning that Dolphin isn't so great with privacy and data mining (correct?). I tried uninstalling Dolphin 12.0.2 and going with an older version from the XDA site but alas there's been little to no improvement.
So I've been looking at other browsers. I know to stay away from CM, the Cheetah Mobile browser, but what else is out there? I'm thinking about the stock Chrome browser that all Android devices come with but really don't care for it which is why I found Dolphin in the first place. I like the Samsung browser which I've seen in the Play Store and gave a test drive to. I also like Opera...
Also of interest. Apparently Dolphin is able to access my Google account and rebuild itself after a fresh install, whether I've uninstalled it and then installed it again or switched devices. This has been very helpful and allowed me to just pick up where I left off, but I've also become invested in the Dolphin ecosystem and it seems to be the only browser that'll access this. I'd like to just pull my favorites from one browser to another. Chrome won't do this, when I sign in I get an amalgamation of what's on the PC version of Chrome for both the computers I use at work and at home... I really don't want the two to commingle as there's stuff on both that I don't want on my mobile, and needless to say if I save a favorite on my mobile I don't want it showing up at work for unknowledgable eyes to possibly see.
So any help would be appreciated...
I use chrome. Never had issues.
