[Q] Odd Android Marketplace Behaviour - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Anyone else having Market probs since the GB upgrade. Obviously, Market now tries to work out whether an App is compatible with your device and won't let you install it unless it is (on the phone, it doesn't even show Apps which it doesn't think are compatible).
However, I've come across a few Apps (example attached) which, from the App description (i.e. requires 2.1 and up) should work fine, but the Market says that it's not compatible.
Does anybody know why this is happening and how to stop it?
Thanks!

it comes for me sometimes too but works i jus did fix permissions and clear data from market !!! it worked for me
u can try if it works!!
Hope it does !! Thank me if it works!!!

Thanks for the idea - unfortunately didn't work.

Android 2.1 Market - Apps not downloading

I've just upgraded to android 2.1, gained root but am now stuck with market not downloading. I've searched a bit for the solutions but apart from the standard uninstall of market updates (which I don't have nor do I have the option of removing updates) I didn't find anything useful. Anyone having the same problem or preferably a solution to the problem? :/
And yes, otherwise it runs perfect.
Did you do a full restore using Titanium Backup? I found that broke a couple of things for me, including wifi and the market issue you mention. I had to reflash to get it working, and then be more selective with my Titanium restore.
I did a clean slate - reset to factory settings then upgraded to 2.1. I didn't use any restore app (although I have rerware backup app and backups) and everything else works like a charm apart for the market downloads which is a bit of a hassle. Is there a built in file browser in android or any other way to run the applications downloaded (have some apk but can't reach them from within the phone). This is a bit annoying :/
The only thing you can try is the suggestions on the numerous threads about Market issues.

Q: Android market behaves strangely and some of my download seems stalling, what’s up?
A: As I understood it from browsing lots of forums yesterday this seems to be a general issue with Android Market (at least in the Nordics) and should be temporary.

I was having this problem until i signed into Google Talk (just launch the app and it should sign in).
Then I had no problems downloading apps from the market.
@bix: thank u so much. Lucky I froze my talk istead of delelting it. Defrosted them and my market working again! ;-)

[Q] Android Market doesn't load and forces shut

Hello everybody,
this is my first post ever. I've been following XDA developers for many years when I was still using Windows Mobile PDA's and later smartphones. This Forum has helped me with so much.
But now Im facing a problem which I cant find a solution for. Maybe this has been solved in another thread already, then I'm sorry that I must have overlooked it.
I purchased and Xperia X10i about two weeks ago. Everything worked fine out of the box.
Then I updated the software via the PC connection to 2.1
Before I of course backedup everything.
After the update I restored my backup and everything seemed to work proper.
Yesterday when I tried to access the Market place the screen popped up and it showed me the loading message but it simply didn't load. The screen flashed a few times then the app was forced shut.
I searched on several forums and followed the instructions posted by people with similar problems.
1. It was suggested that I perform a Hardreset. This didnt work through the method by pressing the left and right key simultaniously and the pressing and releasing the power button. For whatever reason my phone just boots normally
2. Factory reset through the menu: Settings > SD card & Phone storage: This option is not even present after the software update
3. Deinstalling Market update: I deinstalled the updates for the market application but that didnt change anything
4. Using the update function of the PC software to repair the update:
I performed another update through the repair function this seemed to make matters worse. Now when I go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications I cant even see the other installed application except one UEFA something.
Funny enough everything else on the phones seems to work well.
Details about the network.
I live in Kenya and use Safaricom as my carrier. There were no issues before I updated
I work in South Sudan and use Vivacell. I dont use Vivacell for data but rather use my wireless connection. Up until the update and even shortly afterwards that worked just fine.
Im really confused. Don't know what else to try.
Should I root the device and install Froyo rather?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions, and again if this has been solved elsewhere then I'm really sorry for overlooking it. Please post a link if so.
Update for point 4.
Point 4. was simply my own stupidity. I had a filter set wrong. never the less the market problem remains
using the application from AppPit instead at the moment. This one works fine and donwloads and installs have no issues.
Would love to use the marked though because bit has way more apps which I need. AppPit is a bit limited

[Q] Any news on a new market fix?

I've searched, and I'm pretty sure this is a fairly recent problem. The market fix that sounded like to worked great doesn't anymore since the last week or so. I used arctools to install the market, but most apps I want, the ones I have used on my phone, do not show up.
I've tried the market fix according to what I've read and seen in youtubes. Doesn't work, and then I've seen others saying the same thing.
Any chance of a workaround? I just got an Archos 101, and without the market apps I like, I think it's a dealbreaker. Thanks for any help.
you could try changing the build.prop properties to GALAXY tab, (chulri method)
but first you need to root the archos (chulri method)
If, as you say, you already have them on your phone, then back them up on your phone and copy the .apk's to your Archos - it's the simplest method
Since a few weeks, the market fix on my A70 2.1.8 doesn't work.
I did a reset and downgrade from 2.3.20 to 2.1.8 and reinstalled the market, but still, the fix doesn't work.
But I see apps like Gun Bros without an other fingerprint! And I see Google Maps and Google Earth and Flash.
Very crazy.
Well, if there is no kompatibility for tablets in the market options for apps, then you can not see them on a tablet. but always more apps are marked with that flag for tablets, too. so we see them on our tablets as always more devs are building their apps for tablets and not only for phones. flash is such a thing. a big pusher for this was the galaxy tab...as it is a "big" phone although it´s a tablet....the more tablets are out the more apps will show up in the market....and for those apps are not in the market, take a phone and extract your app from your phone and push it on your tablet....

I'm having the same issue, also interested in a fix.
Any updates on this? It sucks that this worked so well early on and now it doesn't work at all...
Since I didn't see any posts about this, I thought it was just my A70. Now I know...and knowing is half the battle.
I actually had this problem, trying to find SimiFolder for my 43IT. I found the following link (blog post). It's pretty old, but I followed the instructions and found that it works.

Error - Application Already Exists when updating Market apps

It seems that many, if not all, of the apps I try to 'update' in the Android market generates an error on the Prime that says 'Application already exists' in the menu bar with an ! icon. This is annoying... I can uninstall / reinstall the app to get an update, but whenever I just click update in the Market, I get this error a lot.
Of course the application already exists! I'm updating it. Stupid Prime.
Does anyone have a fix for this? I searched the forum and didn't see anyone mention this annoying problem.
Are you getting system reboots?
Rumour has it the system reboots are a result of a failure while optimizing apps for ICS during the upgrade process.
Sounds like perhaps your OSs view of your apps is a little messed up...

No. Actually, I seem to have the least amount of problems with the Prime compared to most on the forum. Really, this issue and the weak GPS signal are the only ones I've had. Well, and the decreased wifi bandwidth when streaming bluetooth. But everything else generally runs smooth.
Two apps for example that I had this issue with... updating Google Voice and eTrade. Both of those for sure gave me the error that the app already existed. Uninstalling and reinstalling worked fine to grab the latest version.
Actually, I take that back. Sometimes when I do an uninstall / reinstall, it still says there is an update available.

Unfortunately I have the same issue. I haven't found a good way to work around it yet. As you have found sometimes uninstalling works and sometimes not.
Sometimes uninstalling it, rebooting the Prime, then reinstalling it works. Although, that's still sometimes as far as I can tell.
I've just started getting this issue when trying to update Officesuite Pro, first time it's happened.
Oddly enough when first typing this reply my Prime locked up and rebooted itself, which it's not done before.
Never had a reboot under ICS, at least not yet. But quite frequently have this problem. So I guess there is no correlation between the two.
The only anomalies that I experience are Skype or Talk video calls that suddenly die. No FC or any other message, Skype or Talk just exit.
I bet these types of problems will go away with a root and a custom rom in the future. Wish Asus would release the bootloader unlocking tool already!

Can you do that on a non-rooted Prime? I'm just waiting for the official unlock tool to go through that process.
This has happened to me on select apps too. Particularly xe app and officesuite pro. Can't seam to update them to the current version no matter what I do. Unistall/reinstall, clear delvik, and clear market data hasn't worked for me

I have the same problem, and i tried everything but it didn't work
Yeah... right now for me, it's Google Voice. And the worst part is, you can't get it to stop saying it's updating the market app even though it stops almost immediately. Annoying.
I get this sometimes, but I press update again and it updates fine

Random reboot is a normal way of life with android. A reboot here or there is nothing to worry about. Most of the time its from a bad app you installed. Now if you rebooting several times a day, then that's a problem. Its actually good to reboot or at least power down n then back on device every once in a while. It'll give device a fresh start on RAM and clear any mishaps that may have or could occur. Same deal with Ipad. They recommend rebooting every now n then for a fresh start and to have more ram available for use.
I haven't had this happen on my Prime, but I was having this same issue today on my Sprint GSII.
Not sure if this is a work around, but it just worked for me. Instead of updating the app from the 'my apps' section of the market, I went to the page in the market with the full app description. I clicked the update link there and it installed fine. I'll have to test this theory out more.
i too am facing similar probs. while updating WhatsApp and Skype too it shows that the application is already existing.
pls. note. both WhatsApp and Skype are under different Accounts
can this cause a prob that previously i would have installed it by 1 account and later on by another account when i changed the phone ?
pls. guide.

ICS App store "Could'nt Load Screenshots" only over 3G

Hi All
I need some advice. Me and a friend both have the SGS2 and both flahsed to the latest LPS ICS.
Mine from GB was XFA and his was XFM but the phone and Android versions was identical except for the default CSC setting.
So I flashed both and on mine everything works more than perfect. I seriously cant complain about anything. His phone works to the same extent but his App store dont want to load the images when on 3G. Over WiFi it works perfectly but as soon as he goed onto mobile data his App store dont load any of the images and display this "Could'nt load screenshots" when you view a application. Also the thumbnails for the apps don't display.
Has anyone got a solution for this? We have reflahed muliple times to no effect. We have also update to the latest Market (Play Store) and also cleared the cashe on the Market to no effect
Any ideas?
So no one on ICS has this problem?
On the latest CM9 atm and i dont fully have this problem. Sometime the images in the market load very slow. But they do appear.
Bump. The problem still persists
Could anyone assist in this?
I have exactly the same problem. I've scouring the web but to no avail. Help please?
